Why "choose" to bottle feed???

I am a breastfeeding mum and I meet lots of mums who said they tried to breastfeed but weren't able to which I can totally understand but My mother-in-law said she "chose" to bottlefeed and didn't bother even trying...

So I am wondering, given the benefits of breastfeeding, why would anyone "choose" to bottlefeed??

UCM.....round of applause..........

Difers that is actually factually incorrect. Speech impairments can be congenital or are usually caused when babies are incorrectly weaned onto foods which they have to chew. It is chewing which strengthens the facial muscles not sucking. And infact because bf and ff use antagonistic muscle groups both types of feeding develop some facial muscles, just not the whole spectrum.
A more likely cause is that a baby is not given chunky food early enough such as using inappropriate baby jars after their intended age on the jar. Or pureeing foods for too long a time period. And also not introducing appropriate finger foods from an appropriate age.

Oh and see post about ff babies from me. My child was ff from 5 weeks, is 19mths and speaks in small sentences. National average is to beable to say between 6 and 20 words by 18mths!!!!

Meeely2 · 23/08/2007 21:59

ah the joy of MN! every choice is the wrong one, there is always an opposing view.....

My kids are healthy, they are happy, they were 11 weeks early and they have caught up....they were bottle fed, they had dummies til they were two, they still have a bottle at bed......

I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR ME

OMG, help me, cork has broken off in bottle......starting to hyperventilate........

loonyballoony · 23/08/2007 22:14

Had to laugh at the post about bf being better for jaw/speech development and ear infections! My dd has been completely ff, is now 2.9 and has never had an ear infection, is bilingual and talks continuously in both languages and is basically never ill. Probably just lucky but I'm sure there are loads more kids like her! Stop the scaremongering and let people decide for themselves.

tori32 · 23/08/2007 22:14

Is that because of the vitual smoke or the cork? LOL

UCM · 23/08/2007 22:15

I couldn't give a flying fuck if I hadn't. Not everyone welcomes being pregnant, my second pregnancy followed a very awful first one in which I gave birth to - nothing, just a foetus. I was very stressed and believed at every second of it that I would lose the baby. DS was a twin and I lost the other one early on.........blah blah fucking blah.

My kids are healthy, bright and doing very fucking OK thanks.

I don't smoke inside my house though.

Meeely2 · 23/08/2007 22:15

sod it,pushed it into the bottle.....ha just realised, I AM BOTTLE feeding!

UCM · 23/08/2007 22:16

Anyway, to you all

Meeely2 · 23/08/2007 22:16

ucm, chill, i'm on your side.....sorry, was trying to be funny....

tori32 · 23/08/2007 22:16

Yes looney Like I said my dd is speaking in some sentences and can say around 300 words at 19mths. She was ff from 5 weeks!

UCM · 23/08/2007 22:17

Sorry, I am chilled normally.

I think people worry far too much today.

Desiderata · 23/08/2007 22:17

When I was pregnant I walked six miles every day to work until a week before ds was born (full term). I've always walked everywhere because I don't have a car.

When I was pregnant, I smoked and drank as well. Not to any great extent, but I did.

UCM · 23/08/2007 22:18

I bet your kids are brilliant as well then Des
