Why "choose" to bottle feed???

I am a breastfeeding mum and I meet lots of mums who said they tried to breastfeed but weren't able to which I can totally understand but My mother-in-law said she "chose" to bottlefeed and didn't bother even trying...

So I am wondering, given the benefits of breastfeeding, why would anyone "choose" to bottlefeed??

Oh no UCM, I don't in the house either. Mine is fine as well. was 9lb 12oz! Managed to stop for 4 mths after birth though to bf for a bit.

I don't sterilise and I let my 7 month old baby have ........

whooooooo hoooooooo

Meeely2 · 23/08/2007 22:21

we have all gotten so anal these days - did our parents have all this advice, are we all not healthy adults now?

Common sense goes a long way, and pressures of what we should and shouldn't do 'can' have a huge impact after birth in terms of PND etc.

Desiderata · 23/08/2007 22:21

Oh, yes UCM! I just have the one ds, but he's a top kid, and rudely healthy (touch the old wood).

tori32 · 23/08/2007 22:21

I hold my hands up to the odd wine as well

Meeely2 · 23/08/2007 22:22

fish fingers UCM, do you have no SHAME????? call social services someone

Meeely2 · 23/08/2007 22:22

odd wine tori? does that mean, 1, 3, 5, 7 glasses?

tori32 · 23/08/2007 22:23

Yes this is more like it! Real women with real kids, doing real things. Mine had her first taste of choc mousse at 12 weeks!

tori32 · 23/08/2007 22:24

oh only 3 or 4 in the mornings!!!!lol

Desiderata · 23/08/2007 22:24

I wholeheartedly agree, Meeely. People seem so precious these days. They seem to forget that children have an awesome stock of life energy, and that dirt, butter, full fat food and shite loads of running around in the open air are actually rather good for 'em

I am not, of course, referring to SN kids, where all or some of the above might be inappropriate.

Charlee · 23/08/2007 22:25

I'm still thinking 'smuggery' is a bloody fantastic word myself......................................

tori32 · 23/08/2007 22:25

Chips? well they are potato which is one of the 5 a day! As are pure potato waffles!!!!

tori32 · 23/08/2007 22:27

smuggery is a great word and do agree that sn kids may have specific dietary needs.

Meeely2 · 23/08/2007 22:31

children as soooo much more vunerable if not exposed to things from an early age.... i'm taking a leap of faith in you girls here by admitting i agree in introducing tiny amounts of alcohol to kids......

I used to have a tiny goblet of wine with my sunday dinner from the age of 5. Yes i do drink now as an adult and yes i do have moments when i am totally bladdered! but i have NEVER been in hosp to have my stomach pumped and i have always known my limits.

Drinking was never a novelty for me so didn;t turn 18 and go completely off the rails......

What affected me more was going to a girls school from 11 - 18......when i went to uni i was like a dog on heat!

(phew, u think i have diverted post from breast vs bottle???)

Desiderata · 23/08/2007 22:33

Don't have a problem with that, either. It's a civilized thing to do, in context.

tori32 · 23/08/2007 22:39

Me neither. Its very european. Its quite normal for older children in France to have a small glass with a meal.

Meeely2 · 23/08/2007 22:41

my two used to dunk their own dummy's in dh's beer, was funny the first time, but then i actually thought it could be an issue! They have given up dummys so we don't have that anymore, but will hover like vultures when me and dh having a drink!

divastrop · 23/08/2007 22:42

so the whole thread has repeated itself, yes?

i still search for fish eyes in the formula....i can smell them, but i cant see them.

Desiderata · 23/08/2007 22:42

Well, how refreshing What a bunch of bastards we are ....

I guess someone will come along in the early hours and site WHO to us.

And we'll say ................... who?

Meeely2 · 23/08/2007 22:42

divastrop, is fun though yes?!

tori32 · 23/08/2007 22:45

Yes ,makes such a refreshing change! Have been hounded on other threads for my unnatural views!

tori32 · 23/08/2007 22:47

yes call NSPCC quick they've had chips and fishfingers and OMG FORMULA!!!!!

Desiderata · 23/08/2007 22:47

Your views are not unnatural, tori. It's just that MN can be crystallized on certain issues.

Meeely2 · 23/08/2007 22:48

what makes MN so much fun - u a hero on one thread, and a complete sap on another!

I had a fall out with my dh, posted on here for advice and got ripped to shreds!

ah well, the diversity of life i guess!

tori32 · 23/08/2007 22:50

Thanks for that I feel reassured. I haven't been coming on here very long and only appeared to converse with probf mafia and co-sleeping people. Which I don't hold against people for doing but have reasons for not wanting to my self.
