I think a distorted picture may be being painted

I was once given a £1 and a cornish pasty "for me" by the Salvation Army as i sat in a shop doorway surrounded by bags (had been shopping). Aside from this-no.

no negative comments, only positive.

gess · 21/06/2007 19:02

PMSL @ the pasty. I've never had a negative comment - except for my mum ""you're not going to feed here are you" that was with ds1. By the time I had ds2 I said 'you're not complaining??" she said there was no point as I'd do it anyway.

mygirllollipop · 22/06/2007 10:13

Never had a problem in 2yrs and counting that I have been doing it, and I have done it in countless public places (tube trains, musuems, town centres etc).

doggiesayswoof · 22/06/2007 10:24

No negative comments

And I was one of the 8 bf mums in the whole of the west of Scotland, referred to by bobsmum further down thread

My mum did ask once "have you not been bf her for long enough now?" (dd was 7 months!!)

Great thread.

SSSandy2 · 22/06/2007 10:25

I didn't but didn't do it longer than 3 months, so perhaps that's why. Probably on the law of averages, if I'd perservered, I would have had to have come up against someone who disliked it.

DontCallMeBaby · 22/06/2007 10:26

No, never had a comment or a dodgy look.

I do hope the woman in Sainsburys last week didn't think I was looking disapprovingly at her - I was actually in awe (she was inspecting the veggies whilst BFing an 8mo-ish baby, boob-tube-type top pulled down, which was more 'discreet' than you'd imagine).

webmum · 22/06/2007 10:27

me

and I ahve fed m babies just about everywhere!!!!!!

BandofMothers · 22/06/2007 10:29

one old lady gave me a bit of a shocked and disgusted look once, but that's it. No comments, except nice ones.

SachaF · 22/06/2007 10:35

Never had a bad comment, even had a (non baby) lady come join me in a cafe, and had other older women say how nice it is to see someone breastfeeding nowadays.

PrettyCandles · 22/06/2007 10:43

Never.

Though I did have a GP express concern that my 18m dd was being undernourished because she was still bf LOL - don't know whether to or

MrsJohnCusack · 22/06/2007 11:14

quite disappointing really, have all my arsey replies ready - but noone really seems to care or notice. which I think is the norm TBH

Egg · 22/06/2007 11:16

Never. And I whipped my baps out in all sorts of places. Posh restaurants at lunchtimes, parks, outside tables at cafes etc.

MamaG · 22/06/2007 11:16

I never did

Apricott · 22/06/2007 12:20

Never. Not one.

popeye123 · 22/06/2007 13:25

Never have.
Then again, it never occured to me to ask anyone if they've minded, I've never conducted myself as though as was doing anything odd and I've always tried to feed modestly.

Oblomov · 22/06/2007 13:49

Never.

Oblomov · 22/06/2007 13:52

I love seeing people bf. Gosh I hope my eyes don't linger too long = oliveoils post of :
I do however think people imagine that people staring are thinking "FGS cover up woman" when in fact they may be thinking "awwwwww how lovely, good god I am broody, I had better avert my eyes"
So, are we concluding, that there is some distortion, Fillyfonk ?

Singapore · 22/06/2007 13:55

Never

duvet · 22/06/2007 14:01

Never.

when I see someone else bf I feel a strong urge to go over and say 'good on yer for bf', but often resist the urge as I'm not sure it's appropriate!

mawbroon · 22/06/2007 14:06

Same here duvet. I saw someone bf in a cafe a while back and wanted to go over and say "well done" but I knew it would just come out all patronising and wrong, so I just smiled at her and she probably thought I was a nutter.

Only ever had one comment feeding in public which was "oh that's lovely"

saltcod · 22/06/2007 14:49

only positive comments .... plus amazement that DS is still 100% breastfed coz he's HUGE! The only snide comments I get are from MIL coz she can't get her mitts on him

littleducks · 22/06/2007 14:50
