I think a distorted picture may be being painted

I was once given a £1 and a cornish pasty "for me" by the Salvation Army as i sat in a shop doorway surrounded by bags (had been shopping). Aside from this-no.

Only nice comments - but mostly people don't know I'm bf!

FairyLightsForever · 15/12/2008 13:24

I've never had comments, although I get the occasional look sometimes now DD is older (20months). I never had any comments 10 years ago when I was feeding my DS either and I fed him til over a year.
In fact the only person who has said anything against it is my MIL and she's been asking me when i plan to give up since DD was 5 months old.
I tend to be fairly thick skinned though, so will ignore MIL and any looks I get from strangers...

piscesmoon · 15/12/2008 13:29

I bf 3 DCs everywhere, I certainly didn't go off in special rooms. No one commented, most didn't notice. I wasn't militant about it, just quietly got on with it.

pud1 · 15/12/2008 13:32

never one bad comment, and i have fed my dd in alsorts of places including a working mens club ( long story).

WalkingInAWonderStuffingLand · 15/12/2008 13:33

Never whilst bfing dd, we went everywhere. However last week one of my pupils asked me if I breastfed and when I said yes she said 'how disgusting' But I really don't think that counts, dd wasn't there and I am her teacher, so generally the idea of me having any sort of life is appaling to her!

whyme2 · 15/12/2008 13:44

Have only had positive comments, although once in a market cafe in Bolton a short hush descended when I whipped one out and started feeding!! But actually a few older ladies were very encouraging.

BlueCowNowIsLowingAndDCAwake · 15/12/2008 13:46

did anyone notice the very pro-breastfeeding lines in 'Frasier'? Will try to get them on here.

thehairybabysmum · 15/12/2008 13:46

Never x 2 plus have had some nice comments. Also lots of general lovely baby comments.

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 15/12/2008 13:49

not from strangers, although family are a different matter....

xfabba · 15/12/2008 15:48

re: the midwife the usual crap - it's not working, give up and give formula, your baby will die otherwise (said about 10 hours after the birth, he had jaundice and was sleeping, was fine). This was 4 years ago in a central london hospital, agency staff at xmas. I am pleased to say that second time around I found attitudes to bf from midwives and hvs much better - none of the failure to thrive crap I got the first time becasue their growth rates didnt match the formula ones.

I have had a couple of old ladies come over too to say how lovely to see etc etc. Plus, most impressively, was in Morrissons cafe a a few mobths ago feeding and a whole troupe of builders piled in to have dinner. Only free table was opposite me!! I did wonder but one of them came over and said lovely to see makes me miss my baby back at home (was working away) - they were very sweet and got me a refill cup of tea.

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 15/12/2008 16:20

I had a fantastic midwife on the wards at Derriford

She was DETERMINED to get dd bf, I was in 3 days, would have given up otherwise

prettybirdinapeartree · 15/12/2008 16:27

Never had negative comments either. Fed loads of places: all around Glasgow, North Wales, ferry acorss the channel, in a ski resort, (expressed on the slopes! ), Greece, South Africa........

PinkPoinsettias · 15/12/2008 16:30

been waiting for someone to comment but have been nursing almost continuously since jan 2005 and have yet to have one nasty comment

Piccalilli2 · 15/12/2008 16:34

No nasty comments from strangers, but a few from my mother ('you're not feeding that baby again are you?' etc etc)

kathryn2804 · 15/12/2008 20:08

Never any nasty comments, quite a few astonished ones at the fact that I was feeding twins!

TheBlonde · 15/12/2008 20:08

none that I can recall

bandgeek · 15/12/2008 20:10

I never had any negative feedback, ever

liath · 15/12/2008 20:47

None (and I was pretty gung ho about feeding ds in public).

fledtoscotland · 15/12/2008 21:00

my mother is desperate for me to start feeding DS2 "properly" as she thinks that breastmilk isnt satisfying him as he's still waking in the night for feeds. He is 14wks old. She wont let me BF in her house in front of her boyfriend in case he's embarrassed but she knows if she says more, i will flame er.

no comments from strangers but a bizarre woman in glasgow kept staring and pointing across a cafe to the point i had to get my friend to sit in her line of sight. Odd but not nasty.

bronze · 15/12/2008 21:02

Not had any negative comments though the profs. did try and get me to bottle feed dd in scbu so I could get her home more easily.

I still say no though

lilymolly · 15/12/2008 21:03

Never

franch · 15/12/2008 21:03

Nope nothing

blowninonabreeze · 15/12/2008 21:03

never in 2 years of feeding everywhere and anywhere

StealthPolarBear · 15/12/2008 21:03

none - still feeding at almost 20mo

NotBigJustBolshy · 15/12/2008 21:04

No comments that I can remember - and I fed both of mine until they were 2.
