I think a distorted picture may be being painted

I was once given a £1 and a cornish pasty "for me" by the Salvation Army as i sat in a shop doorway surrounded by bags (had been shopping). Aside from this-no.

OP posts:

never had a complaint

PortAndStilton · 15/12/2008 01:38

Never a negative comment.

notcitrus · 15/12/2008 08:15

None.
Had a woman gurn at me in a railway waiting room but it was intended to be a supportive smile.
Was a bit worried about the male workers in a local cafe who all averted their heads every time they went past as I fed A lying on a table in a booth (firsr feed in public), but the owner told us to please come back again.

BouncingTinsel · 15/12/2008 08:29

Not from strangers...
From relatives, yes.

morningpaper · 15/12/2008 08:37

me never

VivaLaPotPourri · 15/12/2008 08:39

Never a comment. Once asked on the crossing to Isle Of Wight if I wanted to use the 'feeding room' (disabled toilet) and I just said no thankyou. I think that was said for my benefit though. I am very of everyones free grub mind! I haven't been given so much as a sausage.

pramspotter · 15/12/2008 08:42

Never had a problem and I breastfed everywhere. I covered up with a blanket. No one ever said a word.

jooseyfruit · 15/12/2008 08:45

not a sausage!

beforesunrise · 15/12/2008 08:48

never ever.

beforesunrise · 15/12/2008 08:51

well thinking about it... my mum keeps asking when i'll stop. and one of my closest friends told me she thinks it is distasteful to feed in public (when she saw another woman feeding).

but strangers- they either ignore me or smile at me!

Poins · 15/12/2008 08:52

me. and i did it everywhere

juuule · 15/12/2008 08:56

Never. No nasty comments.

biskybat · 15/12/2008 08:56

Never! I've breastfed my dd in restaurants/coffee shops across Thailand, Singapore,Spain,France and Africa. I only ever got lovely smiles from people who I assume, like me, enjoy the sight of a baby feeding in such a beautiful, natural way. Either that or they were just relieved that I'd managed to silence the screaming so easily...much more discreet to breastfeed your baby in public than attract lots of attention with a bawling, redfaced bundle of fury

ChrismumMiaow · 15/12/2008 09:04

I've never had anything said, but I'm pretty sure one or two of the looks were genuinely disapproving.

The worst thing I'm finding now is that if I feed 11mo DS at baby groups, nobody will talk to me! (while I'm doing it). They were generally fine when he was younger!

Lizzylou · 15/12/2008 09:08

No, never had any comments.
MIL was a bit strange, but I think that's because she wanted to feed DS1. She felt excluded, I was made to feel more comfy leaving the room to feed.
With DS2 I stuck to my guns and just fed him in the same room and it was fine, noone died of shock. I think it was a combination of me being self-conscious and her being a little jealous.

lingle · 15/12/2008 09:31

Ooh, does this mean there is another thread where I can tell me "disapproving Yorkshire pub landlord story?".

domesticslattern · 15/12/2008 09:51

No nasty comments. Some sideways looks, and one man got up and moved (possibly in a huff). Though it is easy to imagine these things- we are so primed for bad reactions! That's not bad going in one year though of bf almost everywhere, including in a sales pitch with a guy from Moben.

at the Sunday Times article- another reason why I would never buy that paper.

weblette · 15/12/2008 09:52

None at all, only ever positive.

amidaiwish · 15/12/2008 10:34

only positive too. infact no one really used to say anything just smile at me and ask if i wanted a drink.

trixymalixy · 15/12/2008 10:43

Never had a negative comment.

arcticlemming · 15/12/2008 10:45

No negative comments for me - an elderly woman once approached me and I thought "here we go" but she said "What a lovely sight - you feeding your beautiful baby!".

changer22 · 15/12/2008 10:48

Never. And I have feed 3 DC.

changer22 · 15/12/2008 10:48

Obviously I have 'fed' 3 DC not 'feed'.

scorpio1 · 15/12/2008 10:50

Never.

I have had women come up to me and ask to see it becuase they love it so much!

francagoestohollywood · 15/12/2008 10:54

never had a problem.
