I think a distorted picture may be being painted

I was once given a £1 and a cornish pasty "for me" by the Salvation Army as i sat in a shop doorway surrounded by bags (had been shopping). Aside from this-no.

OP posts:

Not from strangers, very sadly the only negative comments I had were from MIL.

nickytinseltimes · 15/12/2008 10:56

I never bfed in public as I only managed a few weeks.

I used to feel AWFUL giving him a bottle - felt like everyone was astaring at me thinking I was a shite mum.

I frequently stare at bfing women becasue I think it is such a wonderful thing to see. Obviously, I try not to actually starem buy you get my drift?

zookeeper · 15/12/2008 10:57

Never. Not once. Have breastfed three all over the place. Have only ever had smiles and encouraging comments.

Bienchen · 15/12/2008 11:00

Never.

breadandroses · 15/12/2008 11:00

ME

Notreallycutoutforthis · 15/12/2008 11:03

Only negative comment from someone I didn't know was nurse in hospital at first latch 'oh those nipples aren't very good are they'

Otherwise BIL was squeamish, and FIL spent about 15 mins staring at me saying 'it's the most beautiful sight in the world'

On the whole I prefer strangers

blueshoes · 15/12/2008 11:39

None. Or maybe don't remember. Or never noticed.

I don't particularly look around when bf-ing in public. Also relatively shortsighted.

xfabba · 15/12/2008 11:41

me never - was almost waiting for one as have a succession of smart replies handy but has never happenned. Had an old guy perving once but dp told him to eff off before I had a chance to use one and, as others have said, only other people that said stupid things about it were midwives in the hospital with ds1 and i was far too traumatised to even reply.

Wisknit · 15/12/2008 11:42

never with either even once they got beyond a year.

Notreallycutoutforthis · 15/12/2008 11:47

XFabba - what did MW say?

deaconblue · 15/12/2008 12:05

never. Occasionally people have bent down to talk to dd, realised she's feeding and then looked a bit embarrassed but never a bad comment

Leeka · 15/12/2008 12:07

Fed all over the place for 10 months so far. No negative comments at all, any mention of it has been entirely positive, and even better I think, we've had comments where it is obvious that it is just accepted as the normal thing to do. Being brought glasses of water in cafes without having to ask is nice too.

angrypixie · 15/12/2008 12:21

Never x3

FestiveGardenia · 15/12/2008 12:23

Fed DS1 to 11 months
Feeding DS2 (now 4 months)

Never any negative comments from strangers, and I have fed all over the place.

sunnygirl1412 · 15/12/2008 12:26

Only one stranger has ever commented on me breastfeeding in public - and that was in the refectory at Buckfast Abbey in Devon, where a little old lady came over specially to tell me how nice it was to see me feeding ds3 there.

catweazle · 15/12/2008 12:38

I have BF 5 babies (not all at the same time ) and currently BF number 5 who is 21 months. I've been expecting comments since she had shoes TBH but nothing.

kittywise · 15/12/2008 12:41

I've bf 6 and have never had a single nasty look or horrible comment.

MrsTittleMouse · 15/12/2008 12:44

I've had two nice comments and no negative ones - and I've breastfed all over the place too.
What a lovely thread!

Poledra · 15/12/2008 13:00

BF 3 DDs (last one only 20 weeks, is still exclusively BF) and had no negative comments. Got a VERY hard stare from a woman in a cafe in St Albans recently, but charitably thought that maybe she was doing the 'Oh, I remember doing that' bit. Told DH after we left, and he was ready to go back in and challenge her but I thought that was a little OTT .

I was worried about feeding in fromt of my FIL, but he's been no problem at all. Admitted to MIL recently about this and she just laughed at the idea he'd be bothered about it.

Like Viva, am v. jealous of all the free grub - perhaps I just don't look like I need it.....

TheVirginGoober · 15/12/2008 13:01

Never had a problem, did it 3 times, but I am very private.

fourlittlestockingedfeet · 15/12/2008 13:04

no problems here either and wopped out norks nearly everywhere. Got a lightly comment from an ugly old man in France 'thats exactly where I'd like to be' whilst pointing at my nipple. gross but could not be construed as negative!

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 15/12/2008 13:05

Over my 3 child/5 year bfing career, nothing has ever been said whatsoever, positive or negative.

ProfYaffle · 15/12/2008 13:08

I've bf 2 babies and had no negative comments at all.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/12/2008 13:13

Never had any negative comments or looks, as far as I'm aware at least anyway. Think the worst I ever got was BIL making a sharp exit and not returning till I was 'tidied up', I actually looked forward to the next feed so he'd bugger off again!

Had plenty of lovely... was going to say comments but it wasn't even comments about BF, just general chit chat about babies from people.

KnickKnackNaNollaig · 15/12/2008 13:22

never had any comments, negative or otherwise.
