The coolest public breastfeeding ever...

Today we went to a farm park and there is an adventure playground bit - I saw a toddler come down a giant slide, followed by a mum with babe in arms... who was breastfeeding! I was so impressed and I told her so. Later I saw the same lady and another breastfeeding in the sandpit, so I joined them and I have to say it is lovely breastfeeding in public when you're not the only one. So what's the coolest breastfeeding you have seen/done? I think the giant slide deserves a medal - wouldn't fancy it with my big girl now as any excitement and she spins her head round taking my nipple with it.. ouch.

I breastfed in a farm park adventure playground today, but it wasn't me coming down the slide . I can think of few places I haven't breast fed actually!

I know what you mean about spinning head and nipple syndrome. Does she pull her head back at the same time? DS3 does

SlightlyMadSpringBunny · 06/04/2007 18:52

I saw someone BFing pushing a trolley yesterday.

Actually I am friends with one of her friends (but never met her directly to talk to). I worked this out because of the childrens names and the fact she has previously been described as "very good at BFing after 4 children"!!!

determination · 06/04/2007 19:33

WOW, that must have taken some practice.. coming down a slide?! Something to aim for eh?

StinkyPete · 06/04/2007 19:37

most adventurous place for me today was the (rather packed) playground outside ikea. dh looked quite embarrassed when he came out - but then he's still often embarrassed even though i'm into my third year

CaptainDippy · 06/04/2007 19:46

I BF on the front row during Devonshire Park Tennis Week here in Eastbourne (precursor to Wimbledon) and got asked to move TO THE BACK "becuase I might put the players off!!!!" Only made slighty less painful by Martina Navaratlova (or however you spell it, ignoramous me!) telling me "I had a cute baby"!

Very cool about the slide and shopping trolley - Racking my brains now ...

Gobbledigook · 06/04/2007 19:48

My friend used to bf practically all day every day (that's another story), but she was so bloody good at it. You would never notice but she'd answer the door while the baby was latched on - she could do anything while breastfeeding. Quite a different scenario from the short time I attempted it - always took military precision positioning of cushions and it was still a fecking nightmare.

It just seems to come so naturally to some people - good for them!

JoanCrawford · 06/04/2007 19:56

I watched a woman today whip her breast out in a packed out restaurant. She was seeing to her eldest child and baby wasn't latched on correctly, so her dh got her boob and latched the baby on himself. He was slightly clumsy and a rather large veiny breast was on show for the whole world to see but she didn't give a stuff.

I felt such admiration for her and at her confidence and downright coolness.

Flamesparrow · 06/04/2007 20:02

My midwife was impressed at me breastfeeding whilst answering the door when DS was 4 days old

Not exactly a cool one but funny: DS about 5 months old, breastfeeding at a summer fete, eating icecream at the same time. Stopped feeding, twisted round, sucked my icecream and then carried on feeding!!!

nickytwotimes · 06/04/2007 20:05

i really struggle dto bf and only managed a few weeks, so i am always pleased to see othe rmummys who have made a success of it doing it with pride. honestly, it is so bloody hard to get going in the first place that if i manage to bf no.2, i'll be doing it everywhere! fair play to them!

CaptainDippy · 06/04/2007 20:09

LOL @ twisting round to suck your ice-cream mid-BF Flamesparrow!

Judy1234 · 06/04/2007 20:28

I think I've done it in church, not so anyone could see actually, just under the jumper.

Charleesunnysunsun · 06/04/2007 20:34

Funny you should mention your DH getting embarrased by you BF'ing, my DP hates me doing it in public and whips us off to the nearest car or mothercare!
He thinks other men will be ogling my rather ample breasts............................................................................................. what a tit!

Tommy · 06/04/2007 20:38

I did it in a cathedral the other day - all the way through the bishop's sermon....

determination · 06/04/2007 20:43

I would BF absolutely anywhere... and would happily welcome any confrontation or comments! I just wish all BFing mums would feel comfortable and confident enough to do the same then that would help bring BFing back to the "norm"

Lio · 06/04/2007 20:46

Such great stories! I did it in the park today, very boring and uncool, no slides or anything (B minus, must try harder).

Wallace · 06/04/2007 20:52

Cool - can't beat that!

I did bf ds2 at a friend's wedding (was 3 weeks old) and I was feeding him as "here comes the bride" started playing and we all stood for the bride to come in. I was standing by the aisle feeding as she went up the aisle

Gingerbear · 06/04/2007 20:56

At a very smart harbourside cafe in Puerto Banus.

Cannot beat down slide though - I was stationary.

Oh, I remember -have also bf DD in a sling whilst washing the car.

Anna8888 · 06/04/2007 21:26

I don't know what was coolest, I do it anywhere and everywhere... Café de Flore?

Furball · 06/04/2007 21:34

I remember one lady unloading her trolley at Safeways, packing her shopping and then paying, all one handed whilst holding her baby breastfeeding. I was totally gobsmacked, I was a 1000 cushions girl.

itwasbanou · 06/04/2007 21:37

I breastfed my ds in a slow crawling traffic jam on the M1 a few months ago- he was still strapped into his carseat and I was leaning over him (hasten to say I wasn't driving- I was sitting between my two children in the back)Goodness knows what the passengers in the other cars thought as we edged past them!!! Not as cool as the slide though!

tassis · 06/04/2007 21:38

i fed ds during my dh's graduation

fed dd at through a wedding ceremony not long ago

i've fed both LOs in various churches though dd has always been very very noisy (feeding and now, at 6.5 months "chatting") so it's not v discrete as she slurps and chomps her way through a feed

Jenkeywoo · 06/04/2007 21:40

Gobbledegook - I was just like you with DD, Bfing away from home and my piles of cushions and stools was horrible until she was at least 5 months I reckon. In fact even though she is a year old I am devoted to my cushion (so I can have hands free to read etc) and I still have my special armchair and footstool. The lady I spoke to today did say that it's her second child and with the first she was the same as me. I then got onto thinking about having another baby so I could see if her theory was true..

I bf dd2 at 9 days old round a big park place.
Everyone was saying "Aaaah, look", no negative comments AT ALL. Was walking around feeding her too. Felt like such a pro.

Boy did I regret walking round for 6 hrs tho. It gave me sciatica (sp?) for weeks. Too much , too soon.

amijee · 06/04/2007 21:40

When ds was 3 mths old I travelled abroad alone and breast fed him whilst unloading my cases from the luggage carousal with the other hand! Got a few looks!!
