The coolest public breastfeeding ever...

Today we went to a farm park and there is an adventure playground bit - I saw a toddler come down a giant slide, followed by a mum with babe in arms... who was breastfeeding! I was so impressed and I told her so. Later I saw the same lady and another breastfeeding in the sandpit, so I joined them and I have to say it is lovely breastfeeding in public when you're not the only one. So what's the coolest breastfeeding you have seen/done? I think the giant slide deserves a medal - wouldn't fancy it with my big girl now as any excitement and she spins her head round taking my nipple with it.. ouch.

Partic nostalgic for me this one, as I finished bfing our last ds yesterday! We have 4 DCs, and I will miss it!

Coolest place? I have a photo of me bowling, in a proper bowling alley, with ds2 latched on

PinkTulips · 06/04/2007 23:00

me and one of the other moms at the toddler group at soft play are often seen running after our toddlers with our 8 month olds desperately latched on to our boobs

doesn't compare with a slide though!

badelaide · 06/04/2007 23:08

Now how funny is this, just reading through this thread and I'm feeling the let-down reflex (ds, 8m, stil bf but fast asleep upstairs!)

lucy5 · 06/04/2007 23:14

I breastfeed anywhere and everywhere, although I haven't done it on a slide , but that's more to do with my big bum !

Here in Spain it isn't usual to see people feed in public and I caused quite a stir in the drs waitng room the other day. All positive , mind you, little old ladies coming for a look, all discussing the merits of breastfeeding, commenting on whether ds was taking milk or not.

i bf ds (about 2 weeks old at the time) all the way through a tribunal i had to attend about Job Seeker's Allowance! he was wittering away in his pram and i said "Is it ok if i feed him?" and the lady said "Oh for goodness sakes, of course it is!!" as if she'd only just realised i wasn't feeding him!

love that poem and the slide story though. v v v v v cool!

BandofBunnies · 07/04/2007 08:46

Danae, PMSL, "Good God, are you??" Hilarious.

Urban, never ask they may say no. I just say. I need to feed my baby now.

Trinityrhino · 07/04/2007 08:47

I do it wherever and whenever. I have fed both dd2 and dd3 whilst pushing a trolley.
also on the floor in the middle of Asda, the steps of a topshop, in the car in carparks, whilst my shopping was being packed for me at a checkout....I don't even think about it.

the slide lady is defenitely the most amazing

DimpledThighs · 07/04/2007 08:49

Brilliant trinty

theUrbanDryadLovesCremeEggs · 07/04/2007 08:50

BoB - ds was only 2 weeks so i wasn't all that confident about it then. now i do it wherever, whenever. i've yet to try standing up though....i'm sure i could though, ds has a fabulous latch!

Trinityrhino · 07/04/2007 08:52

I've only ever been asked to go and do it in the toilet once. by an old lady whilst I was feeding at the table in Wimpy. I just asked her if she would like to eat her luinch in the toilet and she shuffled off with a cat arse mouth.
I thought I was going to have trouble when I was sitting on the floor in the george section of asda, an Asda person was walking to wards me and I thought 'oh here we go'...but all she did was offer me a chair

Swizzler · 07/04/2007 09:06

Feed anywhere - and DS another noisy feeder (slurps away) and nosy. Doesn't twang the nipple but milk does spray everywhere! Have never had any funny comments - I think most people don't even notice

DimpledThighs · 07/04/2007 09:25

Trinty's asda story reminded me of something about 15years ago a woman was asked to stop bfing in Harrods so loads of people organised a mass breast feed - they all went to the shop and at midday (or something) they all sat on the floor all over the shop they all spread out and started to feed - now that is some cool breastfeeding!

Trinityrhino · 07/04/2007 09:27

would like to be involved in something like that

llareggub · 07/04/2007 09:39

I do it everywhere. Have fed in church a couple of times and had nothing but nice comments from others. I've also fed at work functions when I've popped in from maternity leave. I breastfed during my flexible working negotiations with my employer.

Yesterday I breasfed during the siege at Warwick Castle.

Does anyone get any grief from others these days? I've never experienced any negativity.

oxocube · 07/04/2007 09:42

Fed ds3 throughout the parent/teacher conference with ds1'a teacher. It was the only way to keep him quiet

hotcrossbunny · 07/04/2007 09:47

First public b/f was at a Thai Festival. I was sat on a hay bale listening to lovely Thai music.

wheresthevalium · 07/04/2007 09:49

Similar experience in a pub, got told to go to the loos to bf DD1, same response as TR, bloke got very arsey with me, at which point the landlady came out from behind the bar bf her DD!

First class lounge at Heathrow, Billy Conolly looked over and smilled

BandofBunnies · 07/04/2007 09:50

DT, how cool. I'd def be there for something like that.
I pur posefully bf dd2 in our local Mcd's cos a woman had been asked to do it in the toilet. No one said anything, but it was much hyped and I think they had their hands slapped.

this is a lovely thread

Judy1234 · 07/04/2007 10:42

I was always hoping for criticism so I could make a huge fuss but I never ever got in breastfeeding 5 children. I was quite disappointed in a way. May be more people breastfeed in London than other places. I'm not sure. I could never though easily feed the twins when out as I fed one on each side and needed cushions to do that easily.

MrsJohnCusack · 07/04/2007 10:57

my most interesting place was in a police car whilst they sorted out the car accident I'd just had. Was merrily chatting away to all sorts of people. one of the policemen asked in a slightly panicked way what I'd done with the baby, I pointed out she was up my jumper...

I have never been asked not to breastfeed anywhere, quite disappointing really as I have so many ripostes to use

the slide thing is VERY impressive

Elasticwoman · 07/04/2007 11:07

Xenia I think you may be right about more bf in London. Now that I live in the north I see far less of it, and far more bottles.

Judy1234 · 07/04/2007 11:20

People from some some countries abroad breastfeed more and there are more of those in London and also I think the richer you are in the UK now the more likely you'll breastfeed and in general the South is better off than the North. In some places it's very stark contrast - your friends might throw up their hands in horror to see a middle class baby bottle fed in bits of London - it's almost unheard of and then I read on mumsnet about people who are amongst others who virtually all bottle fed and if you're breast feeding at 6 months you're regarded as weird. Pick your friends with care may be unless you want to trail blaze.
