The coolest public breastfeeding ever...

Jenkeywoo · 06/04/2007 18:35

Today we went to a farm park and there is an adventure playground bit - I saw a toddler come down a giant slide, followed by a mum with babe in arms... who was breastfeeding! I was so impressed and I told her so. Later I saw the same lady and another breastfeeding in the sandpit, so I joined them and I have to say it is lovely breastfeeding in public when you're not the only one. So what's the coolest breastfeeding you have seen/done? I think the giant slide deserves a medal - wouldn't fancy it with my big girl now as any excitement and she spins her head round taking my nipple with it.. ouch.

Hi agnesnitt, nice to see a mention for ice hockey - my parents are fervent supporters of Slough Jets and recently went to the ladies' world champs in Sheffield. Are you a player or a fan?

badelaide · 09/04/2007 17:51

bf yesterday in a celtic roundhouse listening to celtic stories by the fire.
Cooooooool

I can breastfeed anywhere but I have to say, I did like Gobbledigooks cushion scenario particularly with a cup of tea and Dr Phil!
Am [shock} at you though, Flamesparrow! Ice-cream at 5 months is early weaning!!

Oxygen · 09/04/2007 23:52

I took it as a sign he was ready for it CCM

He was swiping food from about 5 months and I kept going on post natal saying "but he's not 6 months yet and he was sucking my melon/icecream/biscuit when I was distracted"

chocolatechipmonkey · 10/04/2007 00:03

Er, doesn't "sucking my melon" sort of sound like bfing!

Oxygen · 10/04/2007 00:09

I thought it sounded wrong as I posted... but slurpin my galia wasn't much better

chocolateface · 10/04/2007 00:17

I am so pro BF, but if any of my C's came upto me and tried to feed while I was doing a head stand, I would not be a happy Mummy.

shirleymac · 10/04/2007 00:31

I bf 5 month old ds while getting on the bus the other day. He was in his sling so I had me hands free to flash my bus pass, help 2 yr old dd up the steps etc. I fed him while helping out on the real nappy info stall in our local shopping centre last month too - some of the people I approached with leaflets looked a bit bemused lol. I also protest-fed him standing up in a big clothes shop just before xmas when they wouldn't give me a seat & I couldn't leave the store to feed him as his big sisters were in the changing rooms trying on clothes!

Elasticwoman · 10/04/2007 10:03

Shirleymac, what happened when you protest-fed standing up? And did you end up buying anything?

chocolateface · 10/04/2007 10:19

Shirleymac, can you say which store it was?

Oxygen · 10/04/2007 10:58

Its so distracting when they interrupt headstands like that isn't it

agnesnitt · 11/04/2007 14:51

Lio, I'm just a fan from a team a fair bit north of the Jets, different league too It used to be tricky to feed under a hockey shirt though, that took some figuring out, the damn things aren't very stretchy

The Jets supporters make a terrific row, your baby must have got used to settling anywhere if your lot are like that

SoupDragon · 11/04/2007 19:52

In the fast lane of the M3.

Although I have to confess the traffic was at a complete standstill at the time. And I wasn't driving.

TeeCee · 11/04/2007 20:06

I fed in lots of places, anywhere I was at the time but the "coolest" might have been:

Walking round London Zoo in freezing cold December with a 1 day old DD2 attached to me nearly the whole time.

I also took DD2 off my boob, laid her down and tghen someone rang the door and I went to the door with my boob out. Luckily it was my friendly Vertbaudet delivery lady!

agnesnitt · 11/04/2007 20:27

She grew up being fed anywhere and everywhere, and nothing would stop her being a hockey chick. She's four now and developing bunny tendencies

Slightly more on-topic, I once fed my daughter on a very packed GNER to London. She was only three months old and was not to be denied grub when hungry. You'd've been surprised at the number of folk who went the long way down the carriage to get off at stops rather than walk past me as I was feeding

I fed ds (17months) at his great grandfather's funeral a couple of weeks ago. He was getting grumpy and started crying, so I just cuddled and fed him. His great grandfather always said "the bar is open" when he saw us breastfeeding and he announced to a room full of people at a party "that is the best food in the world". So I think he would have approved.

bramblina · 12/04/2007 22:23

Well I was quite proud to be breastfeeding my 2 day old son at my Mum's house on our way home from hospital, carrying him in one arm, my cup of tea in the other when dh handed me the car keys and said "there you go". I looked at him rather blankly and replied "with which hand"?

crayon · 14/04/2007 18:31

Another morbid one here. I was planning to feed DS3 through a funeral I went to on Thursday. However, rather a lot of people turned up and I ended up squished in a pew with a very nice, very short and rotund couple who would literally have had an eye full had I done so.

So I squatted on my haunches in the grave yard - though the pallbearers did offer me the funeral car to feed in.

Bootoo · 15/04/2007 21:45

Hope you managed on Easter Sunday Glassslipper, my vicar (female) once said that watching a baby breastfeeding was the most beautiful sights in the world

carrotcake · 15/04/2007 22:04

I'm on my third and have never been asked not to breastfeed. A stern looking woman came up to me in a cafe the other day and said could she ask a personal question, uh, yes, I nodded, and she asked how I felt so comfortable feeding when her daughter was too afraid after being told she couldn't in FOUR different places. Our local paper is usually happy to run a story on people being turned away, I'd ring them straightaway.
One of my more embarressing feeds was taking ds1 to the barbers and lo needing a feed. It was a room full of men, which was fine, but he seemed to slurp REALLY loudly.
Had to feed dd in a tiny car going up Snowdonia once, very cramped, her ears were obviously popping (hadn't thought of that and felt very guilty) but the man opposite me was so embarrassed, he went bright red. I tried to be discreet but you know, when your knees are pressing against someone it's very cosy

pickledpear · 15/04/2007 22:28

well i breastfeed everywhere and my ds wont give it up he is 2 ppl are amazed i still have milk as i have hardly any breast to show off but i am still producing he still drinking not sure i will be able to feed through school gates when he 10 the others may want some....lol

Bootoo · 16/04/2007 22:02

Nobody seemed to mind when I breastfed while playing scrabble in a pub with two old men that I didn't know! I do pride myself on being a whizz with the breastfeed anywhere stuff but have stopped feeding now. Maybe I will have to have another baby so I can match slide lady - maybe the see saw or monkey bars..
