Welcome all to a shiny new thread for moral support during night feeds, general food envy and chit chat Grin

small glad things are improving (just had to change 'things' there as had typed 'thongs'....another classic finch typo).

Pretzel update: am just trying the milk choc ones. They are delish but probably not worth a fiver so try American Soda (or American Sods...another typo spotted there!) as they should be cheaper.

Babyfunch has just gone 3 hours after I gave her a bigger feed. I had to strip her clothes down a layer, change her etc but she fed much better. Doing the same now in the hope of another three hour sleep!

Happy sleeping everyone...

funchum8am · 08/11/2012 02:28

Grr funch typo in the first paragraph above! But it makes my point about the typos! I just cannot stop!

Smicha · 08/11/2012 02:48

Yum, rocky road! Thanks marbles

Lots to catch up on as ever. It's funny how some nights I feel like posting at every feed and others I'm too tired to even type my own name!

We got a 3 hour sleep tonight, followed by a quick feed and straight back to sleep...but he woke half an hour later and is still wideawake. Ho hum.

Had our 6 week check yesterday and ds has gained well over 5lb since birth! I reckon I'm feeding him gold top!

Hope you're all getting some zzzzs.

Smicha · 08/11/2012 02:53

I can't actually count, that should be over 4lb since birth. Baby brain clearly still in place!

Will have a good read through the few pages I've missed and do some namechecking next feed as ds has just dozed back off...although he is making lots of noise so doubt it will last long!

Ameybee · 08/11/2012 03:02

Hmm eyes like saucers - he's wide awake. So theoretically he's had a very good feed as I hoped but what now?!? He's smiling away at me! Cute but I'm tired! X

Smallgreenone · 08/11/2012 03:08

One hour after he was put down and here we are again. Also Ewan has died Sad not sure how I'm going to cope for the rest of the night. Batteries are at the top of my list to get tomorrow.

Ameybee · 08/11/2012 03:24

What is Ewan small? He's wide wide awake :( we've not had this in middle of night before... I've got both kids all day by myself Tomo aswell which is typical - going to be knackered. Wednesday nights and Sunday nights are always crap in this house! Looong day ahead :(

funchum8am · 08/11/2012 03:36

Hmm 2am feed didn't go well - she didn't want much despite me waking her fully and when I put her down she just lay and gurgled til finally breaking out into crying just now. So I have been awake ages but at least she is feeding again now. Like you amey if they are fed, clean etc what can you do at night if they just won't sleep??

smicha that is fab weight gain!

small that is bad news about Ewan!

amey Ewan the dream sheep is a toy sheep which plays lullabies and white noise, lots of is got them and mostly Ewan is a godsend...try amazon if you want one!-

MrsNPattz · 08/11/2012 03:40

First feed here, annoyingly though I woke at half 1 for the toilet - hate it when that happens!

I think the pretzels are worth it - but I am the person who has emailed American Soda to try and get me Pumpkin flavour and gingerbread flavour pop tarts Hmm (I should not have looked on the pop tarts website) lol I'm sure I should have been born American!!

Hi poppy sorry you are having to return but welcome back Smile

marbles thanks for the Rocky road - yum!

Ameybee · 08/11/2012 03:57

Still awake!!! Maybe I should try to limit day time sleep? I'm starting to think getting him into some sort of routine is a good idea, although I seem to remember stressing over it with DD, difference is she was formula fed from 8wks, which makes it much easier to know when next feeds due etc whereas with bf u never know do you! Any one got any knowledge they would like to impart on routines for bf baby? My SIL managed but she is super hard and let both children cry it out v early and never let them feed between - it was 3 hourly or nothing! I'm too soft for that! X

NervousAt20 · 08/11/2012 04:10

I'm glad you enjoyed your class mrsn Smile. I don't think you should feel guilty about not going to your SIL hen weekend either, that's a long time to leave a baby and would make bf a nightmare and keeping up your supply

Yum rocky road sounds do good right now marbles Wink

I'm glad your class went well to goat and your LO enjoyed it

Hi poppy Smile

smicha wow that's a great weight gain

amey sorry to hear you've had a nightmare day at the hospital and fingers crossed your eye gets better pronto. Sorry don't have no tips on getting them to go longer between feeds, I'm site there's many people that think I should let LO get hysterical everytime before a feed but its not me

We're up for first feed!!!!! what the hell is going on?? LO doesn't go longer then 2 hours and she went almost 4 and a half. She is now wide awake and not had a great feed so think we'll be back to 2 hours but can't believe she went to long

I'm sure I've made a very long post, sorry Blush hope your all getting done sleep

missingmymarbles · 08/11/2012 04:37

Know what you mean, Smicha, about being able to post sometimes but blindingly tired at others.

On second feed. Which is ok. Beginning to wonder if we will ever get our long stint back again. It seems to be 4 hours tops at the minute. Can hardly remember the last time she did 6 hours although I should probably stop complaing as 4 hours us an improvement on the 3 hours of last night. Hopefully that was random.

Bad news about Ewan, Small.

Well done, BabyPatz and BabyN. Keep up the good work and tell the others of the new protocol on the Starlight BarkGrin

Good weight gain, Smicha. How old is he now?

Smallgreenone · 08/11/2012 04:41

Up again........ Tonight is rubbish. I don't have any tips either amey. Bs y small is 10 weeks and feeds when he wants for however long he wants. I've been trying to keep track of his feeding and sleeping to see if there's a pattern that I can build a routine around. So far no luck Sad
All I've figured out so far is that if he doesn't nap well he doesn't sleep well either. He napped badly today and hence up loads. Think we may have to go for a long drive tomorrow to get him to sleep.

MummyV18 · 08/11/2012 04:52

Well tonight is better than last night and I've managed some sleep Smile thank god!!

Another quick Q..... What age do u think its ok to give a baby/ child a toy in bed?? I want to get my 'smell' on a toy or blanket to help baby feel safer in his own cot but with him being in his own room I'm terrified of him suffocating/ choking on it.

Small Sad poor u, poor ewan. definitely batteries pronto Smile
oh and re my Q earlier Baby J sleeps in his own room. Yet still wakes when we go to bed Hmm

Well done on the good stretch nervous

amey hope you have managed to get some sleep and I'm sorry I have no useful bf advice. Baby J is 20 wks and we have no feeding routine and only a very loose nap routine.

Think I might have to get some of those pretzels Grin for any of you that have ordered from AmericanSoda does it arrive in nice packaging?? Just asking as its given me an idea for a Xmas prezzie.

Hope everyone is getting some sleep Bear

Ameybee · 08/11/2012 06:54

Took me nearly 2 hours to get him back to sleep then at 530 DD woke up screaming! DH took his time switching monitor off and going to her and as soon as he did his desk phone in office started ringing - grr! He's not on call so what idiot rings someone at 530!? We will be having stern words about unplugging it!!!!!
Am feeding - again. Am putting this unsettled ness down to 6 week growth spurt for my own sanity. X

NervousAt20 · 08/11/2012 07:13

Second feed here this time we went 2hr 20 min. I'm going to check out American soda as it seems so popular lol

Ameybee · 08/11/2012 07:21

Don't know whether its tiredness talking but I'm considering formula, I just cannot cope with 2 of them on this little sleep, its not possible :(

MrsNPattz · 08/11/2012 07:27

Feeding again here and probably up time - no plans today which I like cause there is no rush to do anything!

vicky no it doesn't come in nice packaging unfortunately - it should for the price!! But you could always gift wrap it yourself?

nervous that's a great stretch - no wonder you were able to name check so well lol Smile

funchum8am · 08/11/2012 07:54

amey sounds like we are having similar issues. Babyfunch is 5 weeks. I saw our (v good, IMHO) HV yesterday to ask about whether loads of night feeding was normal at this age and she gave me some good tips on moving her main sleep to nighttime. She said I need to do proper feeds each time - l need to wake her when she falls asleep on the boob. Same day or night. Secondly try to feed every 2 to 3 hours during the day so she is full by evening. Thirdly keep room dark and stay quiet during night feeds etc. Fourth don't let her sleep too long in the daytime.

You probably already know all this buy it was.helpful for me to be reminded. I now need to stick to it which I am finding really hard.

missingmymarbles · 08/11/2012 09:05

Well I was up a whole forty minutes later Hmm I caved and we co-slept til 8.45. DH took DD to school.

Hope you all have lovely days.

Goatbongosanonymous · 08/11/2012 10:08

It was a much better night last night. Kid slept beside me until 3, then had to be picked up so not much sleep after that, but about 5 hours in between feeds before that thanks to an early night. Just a poonami at every feed!
I got more sleep, why am I more tired this morning?!
I will read posts properly a little later...

MrsNPattz · 08/11/2012 12:40

Ladies, a cheaper alternative to flipz are Cadbury's new choc pretzels - they are yummy too!

Ameybee · 08/11/2012 21:15

Crap start to night! He just will not give in & nod off! I'm going insane!!! X

HorridHeffalumpsWickedWoozles · 08/11/2012 21:18

Ooh I'll certainly be on the lookout for them mrsn

My tooth is killing me, I want to claw my face off. I'm not going to survive until Monday's appointment I think I'll have gone mad by then! It huuuurts :(

Hope you've all had nice days :)

I'm off to complain some more...

TeaandHobnobs · 08/11/2012 21:53

Oh Heff massive sympathy! What are you taking for the pain? You can take ibuprofen if the dose is not too high and not for extended periods (although I've been taking 600mg for a week and just trying not to feed in the hour or two after), but only a tiny amount transfers to the milk. You can intersperse ibuprofen and paracetamol to get a better effect.

I really feel for you. DS seems to be directing his screaming at the exact frequency to inflict maximum pain on my sensitive teeth. I'm so effing fed up of this pain now (and I've run out of my mega painkillers too)
