MummyPigandDaddyPig · 16/06/2012 01:59

( distributes tea biscuits and nursing pillows allround....)

How do yo stay awake at night feeding??? Am struGgling to stay awake and have a sore thumb from playing solitaire on the iphone...alternates with reading muMsnet, daily mail and facebook....

What else is easy reading websites, games apps that dont require any brainpower that I cana entertain myself with? Any tips how to stay awake? Am seriously tired here!

Have cosleept with my dc's from approx 8-10 weeks, which makes night feeds easier, but I have weeks to go until then and wont dare to bedshare yet as older dc's still turn up in qour bed at night....

Thanks for making me welcome.
Been sitting in bed [sleepy] feeding since about 8.30. Dd has been very stroppy recently. Sure she's not teething but starting to wonder whether solids would help with sleeping. I know all the current advice is that it doesn't help and it's important to wait until 6 months....but is this true for all babies? Has anyone else tried weaning early?

stargirl1701 · 20/09/2012 22:51

That's fab news about Minipop's weight. It must be a relief. Once again, thanks for your good wishes ladies. Baby star and I managed to get transferred back to our local hospital today Grin She is doing real well - managed to put on 100g in 24hr! Her blood work is now normal. I'm on oral antibiotics and feeling better. Still a way to go to get the right breast feeding again though.

Have a good night folks.

Susieloo · 21/09/2012 00:18

Too tired to post-what's with the 3 hour schedule again

frillylemons · 21/09/2012 00:21

star I'm so glad to hear you are feeling better and fantastic news re ministar gaining 100g! Grin

poppy that's great re minipop Smile

Well, DD has just woken. She went from 8.30 - 12 which is good. I hope she does a good stretch after this feed. It's been a hard, emotional day and I could do with my sleep!!

MiniPopsMum2012 · 21/09/2012 03:05

Glad to hear things are heading in the right direction star

hey yam welcome waves

frilly very please to hear LO is letting you get some rest, you are doing so well. The first two weeks are the hardest, but it does get better.

tea are you all settled back after your hols? Poor babytea, I but glad there is something you can use to help him out. Zx

missingmymarbles · 21/09/2012 04:25

Was too sleepy to post at 12.30 (after 4 hours) then at 2.30 I found I had snotmonster back again Sad I really thought it was a 24 hour thing as it hasn't seemed to bother her all day. She just spent the last hour and a half sleeping on me and then started snorting when I laid her down again.

Glad you're heading in the right direction, Star.

Well done to MinipopSmile My first was very premature and dinky too - not that you can tell now at 7!!

That's a good stretch, Frilly. Long may it continue and improve. Smile

Poor baby Tea, teething. It must NE rotten for them really. Good job you don't remember teething, isn't it? When you think how much gyp your wisdom teeth give you, imagine getting awhile mouthful at once! It's little wonder they get grumpySad

Well, Missmarbles has had another wee feed at 4 and was very snuffly again. She's asleep peacefully on me so I think that is probably the end of decent sleep for me tonight; I'm going to be sat up dozing til morning now I think. I hate when they're poorlySad

technoduck · 21/09/2012 05:41

Hello, mind if I join you?
Ducking will be 5weeks on Sunday and we have been up feeding since 2. Got him down at about 4.30ish for about 15mins, then his nappy leaked up his back so he woke up crying, poor little lamb so knackekred but fighting it. Got my mil funeral tomorrow so really needed a good nights sleep... Bugger

stargirl1701 · 21/09/2012 06:03

My thoughts are with you today technoduck.

MummyPigandDaddyPig · 21/09/2012 08:53

Hi everyone!! (special waves to all the new ladies and babies!!! ) still lurking although Babypiglet has been sleeping very well up until this week when she decided to reintroduce the 4 oclock feed. Think its sniffles and growthspurt so not too bad.

Wanted to ask you all ( i should know as this is DC3...) when do you upsize nappies? Piglet is 6 kgs and still in newborn2, and they fit nicely and dont leak. But it does say 3-6 kgs on the pack. When have you upsized? Moneywise they get more expensive as you go (same price per box but less nappies inside...)

Wishing you all lovely naps today if you can grab them!

MiniPopsMum2012 · 21/09/2012 14:11

Sorry to hear that techno, and welcome to the thread.. Congrats on your little one.

Thanks marbles :)

hey mummypig I changed to size 3 nappies a week or so ago, he's 5.78 kilos, but I swapped because size 2 were a bit tight around his legs. Size 3 have been much better. HTH?

Minipop was a little imp last night, couldn't get him back to sleep after his 3am feed, which meant we were up until 6am. Think we need to prop his cot up due to reflux, as he kept being sick when I lay him down (cot is flat atm). Ended up with him sleeping on my chest in bed, so I could get some extra zzzz

Susieloo · 21/09/2012 15:27

Yay for the weight gain minipop and great that you don't need to wake to feed anymore, hope propping the cot up helps with the reflux, I bought a projector thingy and it's been great for settling babyloo after night feeds, it also throws out enough light for me to do a nappy change without disturbing dp too much.

Hope baby tea isn't suffering with his teeth too much, I'm not looking forward to teething at all!!

yam I've been thinking about when to wean too, my dr gave me the nod to start at four months if I felt babyloo was ready but did caveat it by saying NHS guidance is six months, it's hard to know what to do for the best isn't it, babyloo is a very big baby (about 17lbs now and just coming up to 11 weeks) so I think I'll be tempted to start early, will see how he is at four months and then decide.

So glad your feeling better star and baby star is feeding well.

How was your night frilly did you get any decent sleep?

How are baby marbles sniffles, babyloo seems to have a few okay days and then get bunged up again, he's got a little cough at the moment which is making him grizzly.

Hello techno, hope today wasn't too rough for you.

Hello mummy nice to see you. Re nappies I have just gone up to size four but usually I just look at the weight range and pick up whatever is on offer!! I've just bought 152 nappies, pampers size 4, for £22 from amazon.

Can I ask all those formula feeding what milk they are using? Babyloo will start to have the odd bottle of formula when I'm away from him for a couple of hours and haven't expressed, I bought some Sma infant milk for emergencies when he was born which we haven't had to use but not sure this is enough for him now he is two months old, presume it is? I'm sending dp out to his mums tomorrow afternoon with a bottle for a couple of hours so I can have a bath!!!!

BabylonPI · 21/09/2012 18:23

Just gone up to size 4 nappies here too but baby Babylon is a big chunk BlushGrin

MiniPopsMum2012 · 21/09/2012 21:38

susieloo I have used Aptimil and cow & gate for Minipop (when we ran out of premmie formula over bank hols), he seemed to get on better with cow & gate. HTH?

missingmymarbles · 21/09/2012 21:56

Evening all Smile

I have just ordered size3's with my next shopping order as 2's are getting a wee bit tight but I will try and finish the pack first. Missmarbles is quite a big girl for 10 weeks - even the health visitor calls her chunkyGrin

Still snuffly here. Had an ok day; she's just slept more than usual. Hope it doesn't knock her off for tonight. I put her down as normal around 8.30 8.45idh and have already had to suckle to resettle. Hopefully, though, she'll sleep ok. I didn't sleep well since 3 again this morning because of snot!

Hello Techno. Hope today has gone smoothly.

Good night, all. No doubt I will see you in the wee small hours Confused

MiniPopsMum2012 · 21/09/2012 22:35

Do you all have bedtime routines?

Minipop is 7 weeks corrected age tomorrow, so I am thinking we should start trying to let him settle himself to sleep.

At the moment he is fed, then that either sends him to sleep, or we have 30 mins rocking /cuddles to settle feed & that normally puts him to sleep.

We gave a sort of mini routine going, where we get him ready for bed then feed in darker room /quiet.

See you all about 1am I reckon Grin

TeaandHobnobs · 21/09/2012 23:10

DS still does whatever the hell he likes Grin at 21 weeks / 13 weeks corrected.

He usually has a nap or two in the evening, which at the moment he has in the moses basket downstairs with a big muslin over it to shield him from the lights, then up to the crib when he next seems sleepy / around my bedtime, so that's somewhere between 10:30 and midnight. We keep meaning to give him a bath, but it never seems to happen!

If he needs a feed then before bed, I feed him in bed with just the side lamp on (main light is always off) until he is sleepy, but sometimes he is already asleep when we take him up, so we just settle him in the crib. Always swaddled in a flannelette sheet, if it's not too hot, and a dummy if he needs it. He doesn't usually make any fuss at bedtime - getting him to nap in the day can sometimes be challenging though!

On the nappy front, I still have a few packs of size 2s but I reckon he is nearly at the limit. I have one pack of size 3s but I'm trying to move over to cloth nappies now anyway.

Hope you are ok this evening techno and still thinking of star.

DS hasn't been so bad with the teething today, so fingers crossed this bout is passing for now. Boots and Superdrug here are both sold out of teething powders - they are like gold dust! I wanted to give them a go as everyone says they work wonders and I'd rather not keep using the gel if I can avoid it.

Wishing good nights to all x

BabylonPI · 21/09/2012 23:35

Cow & Gate here Smile

technoduck · 21/09/2012 23:54

Thank you for everyone's kind words, been a rough day but ducking was on best behavior all day... Shame my oh wasn't! Went home early with ducking and popped to a friends a few doors down for a cuppa, an hour later oh friend calls me to see where I am staying they are outside the house and can't get in because oh has lost keys. Go out to find oh passed out in the garden, friend and myself carry him in the house and leave him in the front room sleeping in a chair. I went back to my friends for an hour to let oh sleep it off a bit, when I got back oh had wet himself, been sick all over the kitchen floor and managed to break all the glasses on the draining board all over the floor. Found him in are bed covered in puke, wee and glass. Had to sit in the garden and feed ducking because of the smell. Cleaned up puke/wee mixture. Duckings nappys kept leaking up his back and went through 3 sets of clothes in as many hours and ran out of clean stuff for him (we are staying at mil house and haven't got a tumble dryer here) oh had managed to lose his keys which have the car keys on, so I've just had to get taxi up to asda buy bigger nappys, vests and sleepsuits with ducking because oh had passed out. Got home changed bed covers and now feeding ducking with oh snoring like a pig next to me, after he moaned at me because I was apprentley giving him grief! Phew sorry that feels better. But in here for the feeding nightshift now and ducking does look cute in his new suit and planning on spending far to much on amazon tonight to make up for the glass cuts in my hands!

MiniPopsMum2012 · 22/09/2012 01:05

Oh goodness techno that sounds like a bit of a mare! I hope you manage to get a good night's sleep and duckling is good for her mummy.

Poor baby tea :( if I see any teething powders I will let you know! :)

seems I was bang on with my 1am prediction, what I didn't predict was the midnight poop Minipop had in store - eugh! Confused

Susieloo · 22/09/2012 02:04

Oh techno that's awfulSadSad what a horrible daySadSad hope the retail therapy makes you feel a bit better.

Thank you babylon and *minipop re formula, re a bedtime routine babyloo will usually only feed to sleep so at about 8 o clock I come upstairs with him, dark room, dim light and no noise etc, I have tried to put him ij his cot awake so he can self soothe but I normally end up picking him up after ten minutes because he starts to cry!

See you back around fourSmile

TeaandHobnobs · 22/09/2012 02:21

Humph BabyTea is up at 2 Sad Ah well, he was clustering a bit this evening so I suspect this might be a growth spurt. Fingers crossed he'll settle in a few days.

Poor techno what a day Sad Your OH is obviously struggling with the loss of his mother, but that behaviour is truly awful, especially when there is a new baby around. I hope you manage to talk some sense into him once he's sobered up.

Argh Minipop, you and your midnight poop! I hope, now that's out of your system, you are good for your mummy the rest of the night Smile

frillylemons · 22/09/2012 03:34

Gosh Techno, that sounds horrid Sad I hope tomorrow is better for you.

Babyfrilly has slept well so far. She went down at 9.30, woke at 12.30, back to sleep about 1.30 and woke about 3.15. Not too bad...!

MiniPopsMum2012 · 22/09/2012 04:56

Well, we got two hours sleep out of Minipop before he woke at 4am! For some reason, after transferring to his cot he seems to be waking earlier, bah!

Anyway, 6 mins left of 30 mins post-feed upright settle then it's back to bed. Reallocated hoping he'll go a bit longer now as I am shattered after last night's shenanigans...!

just watching Golden Balls - this program is rubbish! (sorry if you like it! Grin.

technoduck · 22/09/2012 08:34

Minipops hope your lo slept gave you at least a couple more hours kip. Ducking was great last night and did 12~4 then 5~8 I almost feel human today
Mr techno is helping clean his mess up and bringing me lots of cups of tea and the promise of breakfast!

missingmymarbles · 22/09/2012 09:08

Oh Techno that sounds awful, but I am glad that he is helping sort out the mess this morning.

Sounds like reasonable nights for most. Missmarbles woke at 1.30 to feed, down at 2 and then I have no idea what time she woke up after that, I forgot to checkBlush She woke me due to snuffling before she actually woke up. I fed her and then fell asleep, well dozed, with her on my chest - oops! I think it must have been an ok stint though between 1.30 and whatever because it was 5.45 when I did look at my clock. When I tried to put her back in the crib, she was, and is, still so snottySad but she's such a happy little thing this morning, so it's not bothering her too much - she just sounds dreadful.
