MummyPigandDaddyPig · 16/06/2012 01:59

( distributes tea biscuits and nursing pillows allround....)

How do yo stay awake at night feeding??? Am struGgling to stay awake and have a sore thumb from playing solitaire on the iphone...alternates with reading muMsnet, daily mail and facebook....

What else is easy reading websites, games apps that dont require any brainpower that I cana entertain myself with? Any tips how to stay awake? Am seriously tired here!

Have cosleept with my dc's from approx 8-10 weeks, which makes night feeds easier, but I have weeks to go until then and wont dare to bedshare yet as older dc's still turn up in qour bed at night....

Hi breast feeders!! Here we go again lol Smile

flapjackaddict · 01/10/2012 03:57

I can't feed in bed. I have a co-sleeper but found when I got myself out of bed and picked him up it woke me up rather than feed him in bed. However my problem is falling asleep again now after being so awake reading etc it takes me almost till the next feed to fall asleep ...... Can't win!

technoduck · 01/10/2012 04:28

Morning!
Ducking must be get my supply in, been up every 1 1/2 again but he's feeding for nearly an hour, then needs to be upright for 1/2 hour. The whole process takes ages.

MiniPopsMum2012 · 01/10/2012 04:49

techno the whole half hour post feed holding vertical thing is a right pain isn't it? It definitely helps though.

Well, Minipop has just gone 5 hours without a feed, and I was asleep for 3 of those hours - Grin

3 hours sleep IN A ROW! honestly I feel giddy with the extra sleep. Not sure if it's a fluke, he's ill or we're starting to sleep longer, either way I will take it.

Have woken up really snotty though, so think I might be getting a cold - boo!

technoduck · 01/10/2012 04:57

Well done minipop!
I swear getting a few hours sleep in a row is like a drug, you feel like you could concur the world afterwards!
Yes the keeping him upright after a feed is such a pain but it really does work with ducking, just get so worried in going to fall asleep and he will slip down beside me.

Susieloo · 01/10/2012 06:16

MorningSmile

Third feed of the night here so not bad going, totally agree re any amount of unbroken sleep it feels amazing!

Think I will have a sleepy baby on my hands today, going to see if he will go back down for another hour now, don't fancy getting up yet!!

Have a good day everyoneSmile

missingmymarbles · 01/10/2012 21:35

Missmarbles has been down since 8.30 which is much more like her so I hop we have a good night. She wasn't too bad last night although woke at 4.30ish (second feed), 5.30ish and 6.45. We've had a funny sort of a day though, as she slept for four hours, waking to feed but going straight back over while in our arms but waking up very grumpy if we tried to put her down. I woke her reluctantly at 4, and although grizzly at first, she was much happier. She clearly couldn't wait for bedtime though, although it took a couple of attempts to get her to stay asleep in the crib as she fell asleep in the boob while doing a bit of clustering. Hopefully, she was just righting herself and she's going to now sleep til 4 Wink

Sending the Sleepy Mouse roundGrin An older lady in our church when we lived in N. Yorkshire used to say the Sletpy Mouse was biting when kids (or adults) yawned and began to get sleepy. I always thought it was rather cute, and we say the children are Wideawake Mice if they're not sleepy at all, after one of the stories from the Puddle Lane seriesSmile

Tooodlepip · 02/10/2012 00:53

Hi everyone

Seems like most people getting some sleep I'm still clinging to 2 hours in a row won't hope for much better yet

Anyway hope everyone continues to have plenty of sleep

Can I adopt this sleepy mouse thing Grin seriously pass it here I'm the worst person to not get sleep I don't function just turn into a zombie Sad

Quick question how much should a 3 week old sleep ?? Don't bother answering if falling asleep right now Wink

Susieloo · 02/10/2012 01:34

MorningSmile

Babyloo went down around 8 bit didn't go to sleep until nearer nine and we are on first feed now, I thought he might go through till 3 because he was awake most of the day again although finally fell asleep for a nap at three and didn't want to wake up until nearly five, think he will be awake again at four.

Love the sleepy mouse story marblesSmile

toodle not sure how much sleep a three week old should get but it's quite a lot, the two hourly feeding stints do start to stretch for longer periods so it does get easierSmile have a look on kellymom for more info on sleep, that's the first place I look if I have any questions!!

Hope the sleepy mouse is biting for you allSmile

MiniPopsMum2012 · 02/10/2012 03:22

Well, Minipop did another nearly 5 hour stint, but during his early evening sleep, so I wasn't asleep then - bah! But it did mean I got to eat dinner with my other half and watch a film :-)

He wasn't quite as settled after 11pm feed, and his sleeping bag is in the wash, so he kicks covers off & wskes when he is too cold.

I think I am definitely get to a cold, so tried too following a very stressful day yesterday.

Hope babies are sleeping xxx

missingmymarbles · 02/10/2012 03:28

Yay! Down at 8, fed somewhere around 10.30, feeding nowSmile First decent stretch for a while. Now hoping for an easy settle, and 7ish for the next one? Struggling to keep eyes open. Sleepy Mouse bit me and I was asleep just after 9. Hopefully see you all not before morning for any if us.

Toodle definitely second Kellymom recommendation. They do sleep a lot though in short bursts.

G'night

technoduck · 02/10/2012 04:01

Ducking has just slept from 10-3.30 I haven't had that much sleep in one chunk since he was born! I feel amazing. He's so hungry now hopefully if will have a nice long feed then go down till 7 (hopeful)
It's proof I've seen it with my own eyeslids they can sleep for more than 2hours at a time!

MrsNPattz · 02/10/2012 04:34

Hi, does it ever take anyone else a looooong time to settle at night? Joshua slept from 10:30 - 1 (good for him), went down again at 3:15 but only for about half an hour and here we are again. It's been like this most nights and sometimes in the day too. Always falls asleep on the breast but often wakes when I put him in Moses basket, and so we start again. Please tell me this is normal and I'm not just a bad mother Sad

Susieloo · 02/10/2012 05:09

2nd feed of the night so fairly typical for us although he has gone an hour longer than usual.

Did you dream feed at 10.30 marbles?

Re settling mrs how old is Joshua, babyloo used to take a long time to settle but he is pretty good now generally but that's only been over the last 4-5 weeks I would think so from 2 months on.

Susieloo · 02/10/2012 05:24

That'll teach me to say babyloo is good at settling because he hasn't!! Hope he's not going to want to get up at half six like he usually does.

Loislane78 · 02/10/2012 05:38

Good news and bad news - good news LO has been asleep since 11 and is still not awake!!! Never been this long, new record :)

Bad news, I'm clearly awake - got an engorged boob and lump coming so had to get up to express - humphfff Angry. Oh well, still pleased :)

missingmymarbles · 02/10/2012 05:49

Well, didn't make it allll the way to daylight.

Sounds normal to me, MrsN. At least, that's been my experience, but it improves. Also found that first would be a long stretch but shirt ones after that.

Envy Lois. That is all. Grin

missingmymarbles · 02/10/2012 05:52

No not a dream feed Susie, but she was barely awake; her twisting woke me as it does, so I fed her, but it was a usual night feed.

MrsNPattz · 02/10/2012 06:11

susieloo he is only 2 weeks old bless him. Here we are again, managed another half hour at half 5. Do you guys wait until they are crying to feed, or pick them up when you hear/see them awake?

MrsNPattz · 02/10/2012 06:12

loislane that's a really long stretch Smile how old is your little one?

Loislane78 · 02/10/2012 06:45

She'll be 7 wks on Thurs. Had two 5-6 hr stretches last wk but usually its 4 ish hrs at night time (which i know is still not to be sniffed at!)

MW said once they reach this age and the 10lb mark, they go a bit longer at night (mine was 7lb at birth so only just reached this weight). Not sure how true that is but I've noticed an improvement since just before 6 wks.

We had a good walk yesterday and I left her in the garden whilst I was pottering (in the garden also) so maybe all the fresh air.... although who knows!

Hope you all got some zzzzz's :)

MrsNPattz · 02/10/2012 11:31

Hopefully we will see some improvement in the coming weeks/months then! Going to try a walk today to get some fresh air Smile

Susieloo · 02/10/2012 12:53

Hello lois great sleeping from your lo

mrs re picking them or waiting, when he was little I used to pick him up straight away I think but I try and leave him now if he is awake and grizling rather than crying, I picked him up the other night when he was grizling and put him on the bed to check his nappy and he promptly fell asleep so I wished I had left him!

MrsNPattz · 02/10/2012 18:44

Thanks for the feedback susie

MiniPopsMum2012 · 02/10/2012 19:14

Am very envious if all the long sleep stretches. I wish Minipop wouldn't improve, I feel like I have been a walking zombie for the last 18 weeks :(

he's 8 weeks corrected & over 13lbs, so it's not unreasonable :).
