MummyPigandDaddyPig · 16/06/2012 01:59

( distributes tea biscuits and nursing pillows allround....)

How do yo stay awake at night feeding??? Am struGgling to stay awake and have a sore thumb from playing solitaire on the iphone...alternates with reading muMsnet, daily mail and facebook....

What else is easy reading websites, games apps that dont require any brainpower that I cana entertain myself with? Any tips how to stay awake? Am seriously tired here!

Have cosleept with my dc's from approx 8-10 weeks, which makes night feeds easier, but I have weeks to go until then and wont dare to bedshare yet as older dc's still turn up in qour bed at night....

Definitely wishful thinking, baby seems really awake and wants to start cluster feeding againSad

Saritabean · 03/08/2012 03:07

How weird that we should be going ok, than all goes to pot!! I hope minipop, baby babylon and baby susieloo are doing a bit better...? Periwinkle is ok, not quite as good as last night, but not too bad I guess :)

Have my sister and her family for the weekend which is lovely. I hope periwinkles screaming won't keep them awake too much...! It's nice for periwinkle to see her cousins :o

ImissMiniPop · 03/08/2012 03:15

Ouch Susieloo scratch mits are also a must in this house as MiniPop has such sharp nails. And Boo to the cluster feed.. :(

MiniPop had 2 hour feeds yesterday evening, but has managed 3 hours between last feed at the 2am one. Have just settled him and expressed for next feed and am off to bed.

Haven't even eaten the biscuits I got out to help keep me awake. Confused

We've changed MiniPop's bottles to Dr Brown ones, so fingers crossed they help make a difference..

See you all back around 5 :o

Babylon1 · 03/08/2012 05:00

I'm here!!! Baby Babylon went from 11 til 4.30 which isn't bad! I've fed him, winded him and he's now back in bed making little squeaky noises!!! Very cute!

Me on the other hand, now completely wide awake Angry it's too early and dark to be getting up to go stuff, even though I've got loads to do Sad

And by the time it's a decent time to get up, I daresay I'll be sleepy again Blush

Oh well!!

Hope everyone else has had ok ish nights Smile

Susieloo · 03/08/2012 07:00

What an odd night!! Baby susieloo decided that after his first big sleep it was time to wake up so he stayed up till gone three, very strange feeding though and he's refused a feed a couple of times and seems very angry with my boob, perhaps he's having boob nightmares!! He was up again at five so i fed him again thinking this would be the start of our day and he promptly went back to sleep so I'm in the same boat as you babylonSmile

Good luck with the new bottles minipop

Have a lovely time with your sister and family sarita, I worry when I stay at my parents that they will be kept awake, they always assure me they don't mind, it is lovely for them to get to know their cousins, baby susieloo has twelve on his dads side and they all live near us so lots of friends to play withGrin

Have a good day everyone.

ImissMiniPop · 04/08/2012 01:10

Morning, my favouriye Eat Natural bar keeping me awake during tonight's midnight feed.:o

Minipop continued his 2 hourly feeds last night - was mental! SO tired, think my eyelids would have broken any matchsticks in them. :)

we have just had two lovely 3.5 hour sleeps, so fingers crossed that'll continue!

good luck everyone

Susieloo · 04/08/2012 02:13

Morning, baby managed about four hours again tonight but my poor left boob nearly exploded and woke me up before the baby did.

Last night I had to get up with him because he was so awake but tonight in going to try and feed him as much as I can before putting him back down, he's now fast asleep on me so this may be trickyGrin

Susieloo · 04/08/2012 05:13

And then he slept for another 3 hours!!

Saritabean · 04/08/2012 05:53

Morning! Did intend to do a quick post at last feed (2.30am) but was so tired forgot to click post! On 3rd feed, not done too badly again. Had gained another 4oz yesterday- now 6lb11oz- yey!! :o

Babylon1 · 04/08/2012 06:20

Great news saritabean Grin

SusieLoo I'm Grin at baby SusieLoo having anger at boob!! Baby Babylon does this too!!

A good night last night, straight through from 9.30 to 5am and I'm now wide awake while he's gone straight back to sleep!

I am Hungry though so may get up in a minute for some breakfast and a nice cuppa in peace and quiet Smile

MummyPigandDaddyPig · 04/08/2012 09:38

Well done Babylon on baby sleeping so well! Babypiglet has slept through from 10 to 6 for the last week, so I have had nice long sleeps which is heavenly, but no doubt all will change soon again. Shes dropped in weight though so HV wants me to wake her up at 2 for an extra feed but i am very reluctant (selfish i know, and i know you ladies do for expressing and more so fully get that im being unreasonable here) but if I get to sleep I manage 100 times better during the day. So my plan for the week is to let her have nice long relaxed feeds during the day ( as DC1 and DC2 trash the house) and clusterfeed her all evening until I drop. Weighing her on wed again hoping shes picked up a little.
Glad to hear all the LO seem to be sleeping longer, and I can sympathise re exploding boobs. I wake up in a puddle most mornings and have put DC's waterproof sheet back in the bed...

On another note I think I may be our teenage postman for life as I keep opening the door for him with baby latched on. He practically throws the post at me and runs....:)

Brilliant news re weight gain saritabeanGrin and great that you had a good night Babylon

Grin at postman mummypig, I had the same with the sainsburys delivery man the other morning when I had to answer the door with the baby still attached, he actually blushed!! I think re waking to feed you should go with your instincts and do what's right for you, one of the community midwives told me to wake baby susieloo for a feed when he was a few days old and sleeping four or more hours and I swore I would only do it once, it took me two hours to get him calm enough to feed.

Susieloo · 04/08/2012 18:09

I've just posted a panicky message in the b&b thread, baby just scared me to death by coughing and then throwing up all over me, I thought he was chokingSad he's also just had a really green stringy nappy which according to dr google is because he's not latching properly and getting too much foremilk which would fit with the current state of my boobs, milk is literally spilling out of his mouth when he feeds. Sometimes this baby thing is scarySad

TeaandHobnobs · 04/08/2012 21:12

Susieloo DS often sort of chokes a bit before he is sick, or even chokes on his spittle. It is scary - although he does it so often now I've become a bit immune!

Hope this is just a one off for your LO Smile

ImissMiniPop · 04/08/2012 21:38

susieloo MiniPop chokes on a daily basis, when I say choke apparently it's just the gag reflex, according to this site I've been reading.
www.babycareadvice.com/babycare/general_help/article.php?id=41

ALso, the neonatal nurses said to try feeding with them lying on the side so the milk hits their cheek first instead of the back of their throat (making them choke).

Last night was a bit better, 3 hour intervals, so am hoping for the same tonight :)

Susieloo · 04/08/2012 22:24

Thank you tea and minipop so reassuring to know its normal, great tip about feeding on the side and I like the link as well particularly the info about the on the boob antics, I sometimes feel like I've got a cat on there I'm trying to feed what with all the scratching and fighting he does some times, it's all a huge learning curve for me.

I'm really surprised that he is fast asleep now as he's been quite unsettled during the day and slept till gone 8, here's hoping he will go through till 2, after the amount he's eaten I'm in for a very full nappy later.

Hope everyone has a good night and thanks again Smile

Susieloo · 05/08/2012 01:05

Got lulled into expecting four hours and here I am two and a half hours later, and still no poo!!

ImissMiniPop · 05/08/2012 02:18

Damn, Minipop only slept 2 hours before waking up. The good thing about 1am feeds is that there's still stuff on tv to watch, before all the shopping crap comes on. :)

I have dried raisins and some breakfast biscuits to keep me cpmpany later. Should be back on here about 4am I reckon...

Sarita good news about the weight gain :) Hope you're enjoying your sister's visit, I can't wait to go and see my DSis again.

Susieloo · 05/08/2012 04:10

Baby susieloo seems to have gone back to every 2-3 hours, I really hope he doesn't now want to get up at five thirty, I don't really feel like I've been to bed yet,

Dp came up to bed at half twelve and decided he was starving so bought me some marmite on toast, it was v nice.

Really struggling to keep my eyes open.

ImissMiniPop · 05/08/2012 05:06

Ahh that's nice of your DP. Mine was up anyway at 1am, but didn't get MiniPop when he woke up, waited until I woke up and then said, do you want me to feed him? Angry of course I want you to bloody feed it, I've had an hours sleep in 24, of course I want you to feed him - bah!! :(
I was too annoyed and tired, so just carried on while 'tired' DP went to bed (with earplugs in).

Ok, rant over, :o

Just waiting for MiniPop to wake up now. Breakfast biscuits at the ready for 5am feed :)

Saritabean · 05/08/2012 06:28

Men eh! I feel for you minipopsmum...

susieloo - that choking thing sounds exactly like periwinkle- really horrible, she does it quite frequently and often retches so much she has huge heaving vomits. :(

Been 3 hrly feeds here overnight too, not too bad but I still feel shattered! Fortunately the 3am one was v quick and sleepy, so I was back to bed within 40mins for once.

Had a lovely time with my Dsis and her family- periwinkles 2 yr old cousin absolutely loves her :o They're going home this morning :(

Periwinkles soooo funny- she's started burping on the boob mid-feed and blowing it out of the corner of her mouth like an old man! Wink

Back to task in hand.... Second course needed! Have a good day all and babies! X

ImissMiniPop · 05/08/2012 12:28

Ahhhh :o at Periwinkle boobie burps

MiniPop didn't do too bad last night actually, there was 4.5 hours between 1:15am feed, and then 4 hours after 5:45am feed. :)

Have just started increasing feeds slightly, so he's taking about 110ml - 120ml every 4 hours (about 4oz-ish). Have changed to Dr Brown's bottles too, which seem to be helping, and we're still on the infacol and Ranatidine.

Not sure it'll last as I can hear him stirring an hour early, but I think it's still his tummy and retching/straining that wake him up rather than not being tired anymore IYSWIM.

Hope everyone else had a good night?

Susieloo · 05/08/2012 20:50

Oh god I'm knackered!!

Really hoping baby susieloo wants to go to bed at ten, feel desperate for some sleep!!

Loving the booby burps, baby susieloo will still feed through hiccups and whilst straining to go for a poo.

My dp took the baby upstairs for his nap this afternoon and whilst the baby slept for an hour he then slept for another three!! I don't think they get it sometimes so I sympathise minipop. He also goes to bed in a fetching lavender scented eye mask and ear plugsGrin

Really glad you had a good time with your family sarita. My nephews are really excited that they finally have a cousin and they are coming over with my brother who is back from Afghanistan for three weeks so will get to meet his first nephew.

Can't wait to go to bed, hope everyone has a goodnight, really hoping for a four hour sleepSmile

TeaandHobnobs · 05/08/2012 21:37

Hi everyone

Well done to minipop for the 4.5 hours! Hope susie and sarita get better nights tonight!

Friday night I got a stretch of about 4 hours as my mum and dad gave DS a bottle after I'd gone to bed - I hoped he might go more than 2 hours, especially as he guzzled 4oz in the bottle!! But oh well. I didn't sleep all that well for those 4 hours either, and of course I woke up when they brought DS in (maybe I should have specified not bringing him back until he needed the next feed Grin)

Then last night was rather an unmitigated failure - DH offered to stay up to give DS a bottle, but just as he was almost finishing it, he did an almighty filling-babygro-to-the-armpits poo, which also went all over DH, and DH could find him any clean clothes. So he brought him up to bed, ended up waking me because the bloody bedroom door wouldn't open, and I found some clothes for DS. So I'd slept for about 2.5 hrs, then got another 2.5 hrs until the next feed (which involved yet another nappy change!), then he woke again an hour later and had to be snuggled in bed to be settled, so it was broken sleep from then on. Not awful (after all, I've had worse nights) but it was an opportunity for a decent night's sleep that got wasted, I thought.

DH is moaning about feeling so tired because he's only slept 5 hours each night this weekend Hmm (bearing in mind he was out late drinking on Friday night when he had to leave early on Saturday morning to meet me at FIL's). I am doing my very best not to retaliate! Now he's talking about taking a day's holiday this week because he is so tired Grin
