BF in the middle of the night thread...how to stay awake!

MummyPigandDaddyPig · 16/06/2012 01:59

( distributes tea biscuits and nursing pillows allround....)

How do yo stay awake at night feeding??? Am struGgling to stay awake and have a sore thumb from playing solitaire on the iphone...alternates with reading muMsnet, daily mail and facebook....

What else is easy reading websites, games apps that dont require any brainpower that I cana entertain myself with? Any tips how to stay awake? Am seriously tired here!

Have cosleept with my dc's from approx 8-10 weeks, which makes night feeds easier, but I have weeks to go until then and wont dare to bedshare yet as older dc's still turn up in qour bed at night....

Evening all!!

Just doing the last feed for tonight hopefully Wink

I'm hoping not to be awake again before 5am if ds could be so kind!! Grin

Have a good restful night everyone x

raininginbaltimore · 05/08/2012 23:01

Can I join? Wasn't sure if I was going to ne able to bf, but here we are. Tomorrow is day 3, and dd has been feeding since 6pm! So I think milk will come tomorrow.

I am currently watching sex in city film. Luckily ds goes to CM tomorrow so will catch some naps.

ImissMiniPop · 06/08/2012 00:07

Hey raining waves :)
welcome along &congrats on your little one

oh tea Shock sorry you had a wasted sleep opportunity, although I did chuckle at the armpit poo :o

Minipop did a similar thing last night, it was such a poonami we had to give him an emergency bath in a 7l mixing bowl on the lounge floor, it was lukewarm too as we didn't have time for the water to warm up - the poor thing was so cold he kept shivering afterwards even though I wrapped him up in two of hte biggest and warmest towels I could find.

I was covered in pee and poo, too Confused

so, tonights shinanigans have begun, Minipop woke early from last sleep & only managed 60ml of breast milk, which lasted him approx 90 minutes, so now he's awake again and has just been fed again.. hopefully this lot (100ml) will last for a good three hours + like last night :o (yeah, right!!).

Susieloo · 06/08/2012 01:10

Hi everyone and welcome rainingGrin

Hope you have a better night tea I know what you mean about wasted sleep opportunities. Hope you go through until five babylon

Loving the idea of baby minipop in the mixing bowl, what a nightmare for you though.

We are back to two and a half hours by the looks of it, bit gutted I was hoping for one four hour sleep at night but looks like I'll bd back around half threeSmile

Saritabean · 06/08/2012 02:47

Oh dear TandH, very frustrating on the sleep front... And on the 'D'H front!!!!

Welcome raining and congratulations!

Lucky babylon on the sleep front :) !

He he he with armpit poonami minipopsmum! We've just made the transition from 'micro' size nappies to size 1, which are still pretty huge on periwinkle, but seem to have cut down on leaks 100% (probably speaking too soon now and need to watch my typing thumbs mouth as I'll be caught out later!!!)

Hope you manage a better stretch susieloo.

We've just had a very fussy feed with periwinkle pulling on and off the boob, not quite sure why although seems quite burpy again, but adter the first gulping go on boob 1, won't take more than a mouthful each time, then off, then back on... Can't be doing with that cos will make me sore. Not sure she's had enough to go back off to sleep but here goes.... Hmm!!

Susieloo · 06/08/2012 04:16

Can't keep my eyes open!!!!

I get fussy feeds too sometimes sarita, it's like he's playing with his food before eating, I hate it because I get sore nipples and it's really frustrating.

Baby now lying in his basket looking very awake-oh dear.

Saritabean · 06/08/2012 04:47

Did go back to sleep, but awake 2hrs later :(

yaaaaawn!!

ImissMiniPop · 06/08/2012 06:16

Yay on the nappy upgrade Sarita we're also on the size 1 nappies, as MiniPop is getting chubby now. Doesn't help that I have 4 packs of micro size stocked up Confused, was thinking of donating them to NICU.

DP stupidly left his Galaxy out, so I've eaten it to keep my strength up and serves him right for not helping out with the weekend nightshifts

Susieloo how did it go? were you back at half three? MiniPop did 3 and a half hours and fed at 3 (when I demolished the Galaxy to help keep me away :o) and is just stirring now, so that's another 3 hour stint, just need to try and train him to do 4 hours again :)

Wishing you all a lovely Monday and some sneaky nap breaks where possible. Brew

Babylon1 · 06/08/2012 09:40

Yay we went through til 5 then til 8.30 Grin. Lucky ol me!!!!

Welcome rainingbaltimore congrats on your little one and well done for persevering with BFing Wink

Took ds swimming for first time yesterday and he loved it!! Was totally knackered afterwards which I think helped with last nights sleep marathon!! Smile

I also had to laugh at armpit poo and poonami - we've all been there!!!

Happy Monday everyoneSmile

Susieloo · 06/08/2012 17:15

Evening everyoneSmile

Not a bad night last night, baby susieloo went to bed at ten, up at half twelve then half three then seven so not too bad, still averaging three hours roughly, still waking up with explosive boobs so hoping that will settle down, I'm only expressing a little bit in the morning to put in the freezer so I don't think I'm building up my supply too much.

We had a hospital appt this morning, baby susieloo was born with a mark on his shoulder that three paediatric drs couldn't identify so we went to see the consultant, I had to feed him just as two drs, one medical student and two sixth form students came in, he refused to let go of my nipple so ended up with the consultant holding him horizontally away from me to look at his shoulder and he still carried on feeding, he looked like superman!!Grin They couldn't identify his mark so want to take a photograph to take to a paediatric regional meeting to see if anyone else has come across it before, they are not concerned though which is reassuring.

He's also put on another pound in a week!!

I've been really lucky up until today with poonami's and then had two right up his back this morning, not surprising considering how much he is eating!!

See you all later, hoping all mummy's and babies have had a good daySmile

Babylon1 · 06/08/2012 17:19

Oh SusieLoo don't they just want to feed at the most inconvenient times Hmm

Hope his mark gets diagnosed quickly, but it doesn't sound too worrying so try not to let it bother you Smile

We've had big feeds here again today so hoping for another fairly chilled out night!! I'll let you know later!!

Wishing big sleeps and easy babies to everyone!!! Grin

ImissMiniPop · 06/08/2012 22:42

MiniPop has had a weird day today, wouldn't settle to sleep on a few occasions, so goodness knows what that means for tonight, all I know is that I was falling asleep during the daytime feeds, so goodness knows what i'll be like tonight :o

And I don't know what time he'll wake up either.. so am going to try and get an hours kip before the nightshift kicks off, wishing you all long sleeping babies tonight :)

Susieloo · 06/08/2012 23:34

Hope your getting some sleepBabylon

We've had a similar day minipop!!

Baby susieloo went out for a lovely walk with dp, came back about seven, had a big feed and the half an hour later coughed a bit and so I picked him up and he threw up all over me! Was asleep again by eight and has just woken up now and I'm not convinced he will go back to sleep although he is having a massive feed.

Here's hoping he goes through until threeSmile

raininginbaltimore · 06/08/2012 23:50

Feeding well today, my milk came in. Cluster fed in evening, which was fine. But now being fussy. Woke up at 11pm fed for a bit. Fell asleep. Put down. Woke up, fed for bit, fell asleep, put down, woke up. She pulled herself off second time so she was ready. Just done it again. And asleep again!

Argh! I thought it wouldn't be so bad one I had milk. She had a bottle of formula at 10pm too, so hardly starving!

Right just going to try put her down again

Susieloo · 07/08/2012 00:48

I've been there raining!!

Baby susieloo as predicted now thinks its morning and is wide awake, hopefully he will be asleep again by half one after two big feedsSmile

raininginbaltimore · 07/08/2012 01:38

Still here! I have a 2 yr old so can't nap in day! Come on baby it is night time!

MiniPopsMum2012 · 07/08/2012 02:14

Well Minipop slept for nearly 5 hours before I woke ginu

Saritabean · 07/08/2012 03:24

Evening all! Had 3.5 hrs sleep- yey! Fingers crossed for a settled, sleepy feed with no fussing and straight back to bed for us both......!!!

Susieloo · 07/08/2012 03:47

Great sleeps sarita and minipop

We were up again at ten to three so only got two hours, we are sleeping downstairs tonight because I had a feeling we would be up most of tonight, we definitely struggled with night and day today!

Hope you got some sleep raining

Babylon1 · 07/08/2012 05:03

BabyBabylon went through from 8.30pm to 4.20am and is now back fast asleep againGrin

Jeez I feel blessed Smile

Susieloo · 07/08/2012 06:27

Yay for you babylon that's brilliant, and it gives me hope!!

We were up every two hours last night really, feel very tired this morning, going to my parents today so hope to have a little sleep whilst they keep the baby awake a little bit more than he was in the day yesterday. Have a great day everyoneSmile

Babylon1 · 07/08/2012 16:06

SusieLoo that's normal, we do have the odd night reverting to 2 hourly feeds - those blooming growth spurts huh??!!

Susieloo · 07/08/2012 18:13

Thank you babylon it's really useful for me to hear because I do feel a bit clueless at times!

Wishing everyone big sleeps tonight Smile

TeaandHobnobs · 07/08/2012 19:56

Well here's the explanation for my little piglet's frequent feeding - he now weighs 9 lb 7 oz which is 1 lb 8 oz up in three weeks!

He has got a little better at nights the last few days - we are now consistently getting 3 hours at the first stretch, and this morning he must have woken up after about two hours the second time, but settled with the dummy until the 3 hour mark. So there is maybe a tiny light at the end of the tunnel (which better not be an oncoming train!)

raininginbaltimore · 08/08/2012 00:01

We are on our first fussy stretch of the night.

Sat upright as more comfy. I wish she would go back in her crib afterwards. I know she is tiny and new, but why do they wait a few days? Both her and ds were fine being put down when asleep for first two days. Then day 3- bam, can only sleep when being held. Argh.
