I'll start by stating I couldn't give two shits about two people I don't know.

However, I am finding so much humour in the 'non racist' vitriol from people that don't know them, and who seemingly don't care, yet can't get them out of their mouths!

I can't wait for this Oprah interview (that I might not even bother to watch) because I'll find the obsessive thread after thread on this absolutely hilarious.

To start us who have had a lifetime of this shit off, I thought I'd add to the frothing with this gem!

Kelechi, Shola and Gina were so on point and so unapologetically Black!

I'm hoping we can congrats here for our own analysis later!

I also find it disgusting that it took MM standing up for herself after 3 years of this incessant bullying for ITV to do something, noone in 3 years in the public said this was wrong they all turned a blind eye, but the same people were falling over their feet to insist that the radio presenter who tweeted a pic of a chimp to welcome the new RF baby was not racist. They wrnt on TV shows and wrote articles all in solidarity with a clearly racist man, but left a heavily pregnant women to be bullied for 3 years.

RedMarauder · 10/03/2021 13:19

ITV were scared of being sued.

Just heard more about the Society of Editors statement.

This is the response from some well-known journalists:
haroon-siddique.medium.com/letter-to-society-of-editors-9aae5ad0cb0d

This is the Society of Editors clarification:
www.societyofeditors.org/soe_news/statement-of-clarification/

The tabloids still don't get it.

Mischance · 10/03/2021 13:36

I have not read all the thread - I have a migraine problem when scrolling screens.

I am white. I do not pretend to fully grasp the extent of underlying racism in how the UK operates, because there is so much that happens that is not part of my experience. But I am prepared to listen to those who know better.

I am deeply shocked by the way that MM has been treated. The gutter press simply went for the jugular - there was nothing she could do right in their eyes - nothing at all. Can anyone be surprised that it made her ill? Can anyone blame Harry for wanting to get her out of it? Can anyone blame them for wanting to have their say?

I find it all sickening.

Mischance · 10/03/2021 13:41

I would also like to add that the sheer level of vitriol and venom that is slung at MM is beyond shocking - it is simply inhuman and in any other circumstances that papers would be sued. But it seems she is fair game.

Benelovencd · 10/03/2021 13:42

Women like Kate are allowed to remain silent and demure "maintain a dignified silence" because the world comes out in their defence. Noone defended Meghan, she had to do it herself and then she is vilified for doing so, if she kept quiet it would be taken as though she agrees with what is going on to and that it isn't problematic. She couldn't win

maggiethecat · 10/03/2021 13:49

@RedMarauder
As I mentioned upthread, it was cringeworthy watching the exec director of the Society of Editors on Victoria Derbyshire's show yesterday as he tried to defend those early tabloid 'straight outta Compton' stories as a rags to riches type cover.

Derbyshire tried to press him on the language used in those articles and the negative stereotypes pushed but of course we got the Piers type indignant, shouty rebuttal.

It's unsurprising that those journalists have had to respond in the way they did.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 10/03/2021 13:56

@Benelovencd

Piers is contemptible. He is still going and throwing accusations and insults. ITV's share price has dropped since Piers was let go and Telegraph has an article saying ITV will regret letting Piers go and basically he shouldn't have been "fired" (yes he resigned but we all know it was resign or be fired).

And then you want to say the UK is not racist.

Good. Hope the shares turn to junk and ITV go bust.
rosetylersbiggun · 10/03/2021 14:19

This thread is chefs kiss

Every time I see Piers Morgan ranting about Meghan I get a mental image of that character in The Silence of the Lambs who wants to kill and skin women to possess them as an actual literal human skin suit!

creepingthyme · 10/03/2021 17:34

I'm surprised that people are surprised that the RF didn't protect Meghan, after all they didn't particularly condemn Harry's previous racist remarks, so sadly I wouldn't expect them to be outraged on behalf of someone who doesn't belong to the "brand".

Orchidflower1 · 10/03/2021 18:10

The royal family, have always and probably will always look after their “own” and ignored/ changed things that didn’t suit their model.
From HenryVIII changing the religion of the country to Fergie and Diana bring ostracised and recently hiding Andrew’s vile ways.

Maybe the situation with Meghan and the accountability they are being asked for now will move things forward; you can hope.

HurryUpSunshine · 10/03/2021 19:31

Piers is a vile man. King of the hams.
This country is very racist. What do you think Brexit was all about?
How we have a Prime Minister who can openly make very racist comments & still be in power is proof in itself. It sickens me to my stomach!
Sad times. Things still need to change.
(white gender critical feminist here btw)

longwayoff · 10/03/2021 21:00

Two of Prince Philip's sisters married Nazis. Princess Michael's father was also a Nazi official. When Diana was hanging out with Dodi and campaigning against landmines nobody mentioned the family links to the Khashoggi arms dealers. The RF is an irony free zone. They will do whatever is expedient for them, always have, always will. That's why they're still there. They will PR their way out of this, nothing will change. I'm in a Madame LaFarge mood tonight, hurrah for les tricoteuses.

Benelovencd · 10/03/2021 23:08

Ian Murray has resigned as executive director of the Society of Editors after the body came under fire for a statement regarding Harry & MM's remarks on media racism.

Good riddance

Quaagars · 10/03/2021 23:25

Why have I just clicked on that - it seems to be just another of the many DM articles that seem to want to dismiss racism, or smear.
So it's Oprah's fault for editing it badly?!
The words were still said by Meghan and Harry.
Sorry, but since when has the DM been so concerned about "context behind headlines?!"
It's seriously laughable.

@skodadoda The Daily Fail?

Are you truly, really serious? Considering THEY are the ones with Piers who have caused all the problems?

What next will you link to? Breitbart?

There's something to be said for having self awareness and self respect. Linking to a DF hit piece defending clear and proven racist prejudice against Meghan is the most embarrassing thing you could do.

Jangirl2018 · 11/03/2021 12:15

@Cokie3

I pity them really. This is where they lap up all the venomous stories and lies that fuel their own consuming toxic hatred of someone they don’t even know. So brainwashed in fact, that the irony of linking such a ridiculous ‘source’ was completely lost on that poor person.

Benelovencd · 11/03/2021 12:16

Their defence will be they are trying to "add valid points to the discussion". A discussion about race and MM's experience on BMN -how tone deaf. They keep squatting here to just trigger and upset BMNers in the name of it being their right to post anywhere even though their contributions are clearly not welcome. But they will insist that they can and should have an opinion on matters that do not affect them.

I'm glad this argument of context by the Society of Editors was called out by journalists of colour in their open letter. This commitment to denying racism exists or continuously trying to tell Black people what is and isn't racist when we are the victims needs to end. To white people the accusation of racism always seems to inspire more outrage than the racist acts themselves.

This is not of interest. I wish people understood that. I clicked and didn't go past tge cookie section but saw tge tinny bit at tge top. If I knew it was the dm I would not have clicked on the link. They don't deserve my click for views. The more random clicks they get thr more they feel touchable. I might be one person not going there, I hope one day it will count towards their demise.

debbrianna · 11/03/2021 12:29

East London will be a very busy place for the royals..all the racist will need a black friend.

That’s actually hilarious - like, well that wasn’t a headline, it was printed, but not in a headline and that only appeared online...

What sort of argument is that? Well yeah, actually they’re all correct, people did write those things and publish them, but some of them were in a different place than we think they looked like they were on a brief tv clip? So therefore it’s a smear, not just you know, showing things that were written Hmm

From a paper that prints complete inaccuracies quite happily Confused lol. I’ve put in complaints (that were upheld) about stories they’ve run about how disability benefits work that are complete fiction - literal fiction when the factual information is freely and easily available, but didn’t suit their narrative.

But it was further down the page constitutes misinformation

DeeCeeCherry · 11/03/2021 14:51

A Daily Heil link. Never clicked on one and never will

Why would we click on the Daily Heil? Why would anything they have to say be 'of interest'? I've blocked them from my phone.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 11/03/2021 15:30

Probably recruited black people for the photo ops. Extra pay for native costume and braids
Benelovencd · 11/03/2021 15:30

I read some of the threads on MN and am shocked at how oblivious people are to their own racism, crying how racist it is for them to be told they can't tell people what is and isn't racist because they are white and it's upsetting and racist to them. And actually saying MM is a terrible person so deserves any racism levied at her or that she can't experience racism because she is white -passing. The arguments for context regarding the press and it's racism

I'm also amazed at how MM is simultaneously a terrible two-bit actress with zero talent and also a cunning actress who acts for a living and brilliant enough to fool Harry, Oprah, the RF and the whole world. Pick one
