Hi,

Is anyone expecting a March baby?

I've just found out I'm pg following a mc in April at 12 weeks, so I need some company

Thanks for the link delilah madas I had a homebirth with DD1 and will be doing so again, so it's nice to know I'm not the only one who eats lentils and wears home knitted sandals

Just knitting myself a new pair now

spilttheteaagain · 25/06/2010 08:44

You re-tested now delilah?

Ooh B, was DD1 your 1st? I do like the idea of a homebirth very much but am very scared about choosing it for a first birth incase I'm actually crap at giving birth. What swung it for you?

delilahbelle · 25/06/2010 09:19

No retest today spilt - I woke up with sore (.).)s and needing the loo which reassured me somewhat.
I am going to save the test for tomorrow morning.

I have also (ulp) booked a doctor's appointment for Monday afternoon after work. I will be 5 weeks then by my calculations. I think telling someone medical will make it a little more real. Anyone else been/going to the doctors, or am I stupidly early?

delilahbelle · 25/06/2010 09:21

Forgot to say - I like the idea of homebirth too, but am petrified of pain. Lots of admiration for those of you doing it - how did you find it?

Chloe55 · 25/06/2010 11:40

Can I join too please?

I was meant to be starting Clomid (fertility treatment) on my next period as apparantly I'm not ovulating. It would seem that this last month I obviously did ovulate as had 2 BFPs this morning - I have a 4 year old and we have been trying for 2 years so it seems it's been a long time coming.

Got very mixed emotions, shock being the biggest as we thought it was near on impossible without medical help, excitement, happiness, worry and bloody scared.

I kinda thought I was pg as watched the footie on wed at a pub, got pretty drunk and had the worst hangover ever yesterday which lasted well into the evening, I nearly threw up which is just not like me so I knew something was wrong or maybe very 'right'

sunchild77 · 25/06/2010 12:04

Congrats Chloe55! Welcome to our wee expanding group

delilahbelle · 25/06/2010 12:39

Congratulations and welcome Chloe55

I hope you have a healthy 8 months or so to go - I totally understand your mixed emotions as I am the same. I am constantly convinced this is going to end in a chem preg like last time, and am on edge, worried, so happy to be pregnant and terrified of things going wrong.

Yay welcome aboard Chloe55 was a lovely surprise for you . These early stages are tricky, just waiting for that first scan. I think we are all veering from lovely excitement to complete fear.

Delilah I found that the pain was much easier to cope with in the comfort of my own home. I have a dislike of hospitals and was much more able to relax and listen to my body at home. More freedom to move about and I didn't feel intimidated about asking for what I wanted. You can have gas and air at home, use water or a TENS machine. I think they will let you have pethidine too (not in water tho). I had that in my first labour and hated it, just felt so out of control. You can ask to transfer at any time if you feel you want an epidural.

specialsmasher · 25/06/2010 14:21

Hello everyone. Just checking in. I just went for a run! Apparently you can carry on doing what you were doing, and I have been running regularly for ages, but it felt weird. I might take it a bit easier!

So frustrating not being able to talk about it or having to say 'if all goes well' to dh instead of being able toget excited.

My dd is behaving appallingly at the mo! God knows why I'm so excited about having another!

Chloe55 · 25/06/2010 14:56

Do you know, I am such a dumb ass - have realised I will actually be due in Feb, must be my pregnancy brain acting up already ha ha! So, all the best to you lovely ladies and you never know, if I am late I may end up joining you for the last couple of weeks! Take care everyone and look after yourselves.

delilahbelle · 25/06/2010 15:50

Hi all

Not good news from me - I have had some spotting Major panic stations, particularly as most of the symptoms I have had have gone.
Will be back if/when I know what is happening, but it feels v much like the last chem preg I had.
Dammit

specialsmasher · 25/06/2010 16:01

Really sorry to hear that, Delilah. Really hoping your sore boobs this morning belie the spotting...

Chloe55 · 25/06/2010 16:08

I had spotting for 4 days last week and my cousin who is 8 weeks has been bleeding for 3 weeks and an early scan has shown no problems. Don't lose faith just yet, I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Madasajarofwasps · 25/06/2010 16:08

Oh big hugs Delilahbelle fingers crossed everything is okay for you. Please try not to panic.

Specialsmasher hi there, I am a runner too, although I have not been since last week. I ran the London Marathon in April which was ace. But last weeks run of 5 miles felt terrible, no bounce and quite breathless and I know I am not that unfit already! I will run again when I feel a bit less crampy, crabby and hot

Take care Delilah thinking of you .

delilahbelle · 25/06/2010 16:12

Thanks girls, I appreciate it.
Thank god it's the weekend and I can hibernate tonight. I am supposed to be going out with friends tomorrow night... thats going to be fun if this gets worse.

I am trying to stay positive, but not feeling it. At least I have a doctors appointment Monday - I can cry on my lovely GP, lol

sunchild77 · 25/06/2010 18:31

Oh delilah Im sorry to hear that too, maybe its implantation bleeding? Apparently its very common...
Take care and take it easy... Will be thinking of you too..

spilttheteaagain · 25/06/2010 19:16

Delilah hope you're ok. It sounds very worrying. It's of course possible that there is no problem, bleeding in early pg is far from uncommon.

Take care of yourself & have an easy weekend if you can. You can always cancel on your friends and say you don't feel very well. Will be thinking of you, let us know how you get on.

BUnderTheBonnet · 25/06/2010 19:53

Delilah Take care... not much you can do either way, so just rest up and take care of yourself until you can find out for sure. Sore boobs must be good though - I never got them last time when I did mc, but I had them when I was pg with DD.

Spiltthetea Try this website under the "can I have a homebirth if..." section for excellent advice. My midwife this first timeres are the most ideal candidates for homebirth, becuase the most common problem with them is that they "fail to progress". Basically this means nothing happens for a long time, which isn't really an emergency, and you have plenty of time to transfer to hospital for speed-it-up drugs. Post-partum haemorrhage is much more common in multi-paras (lots of previous babies) and that's the bigger worry. Shoulder distocia is the thing people panic about because your pelvis is "unproven". This is total nonsense. Shoulder distocia is equally common in ladies having second babies who were fine with their first babies. Midwives are trained to deal with it wherever you give birth. I had a lovely waterbirth at home (I actually pushed on dry land though) with my breech DD (yes - breech!). She was very flat at birth, and needed oxygen and a transfer to hospital. It was traumatic at the time, but it wouldn't have been any different in hospital, and the emergency care she received was identical - there was no delay in giving her the oxygen she needed. So even though it wasn't all perfect, I am definitely going for a second homebirth - my labour was so fantastic at home.

As for the pain, I found it (don't tell any men...) actually quite bearable. I made a lot of noise, to be sure, but never felt I wasn't coping. I had nothing, not even gas and air, apart from the birth pool. I had a very fast labour though (5 and a half hours) so that probably helped. I remember thinking after 3 hours that if this was the "mild, early labour" part, I wasn't going to manage it, but as it turns out I was probably about 8cm by then

specialsmasher · 25/06/2010 20:50

Hello fellow runner, Madasajarofwasps. I was breathless too - thought I might be imagining it , but if you had that too...
I'm keen to keep it going as I want to take advantage of the fact that I have started pregnancy with a good level of fitness, but I might do interval running or something. It didn't feel good today - like you say, as if I was unfit. Don't want to leave it too late in case my body really resists! Have you run in pregnancy before?

Thinking of you delilah

Madasajarofwasps · 25/06/2010 22:10

specialsmasher I definitely want to run through this pg as I don't want to lose all my hard won fitness! But I will only do what I feel comfy doing and at the moment that isnt much. I am just too tired and the weather is too hot. I havent run through my previous pgnancies, with my first I was only running about 4 to 5 miles twice a week and stopped as we had been ttc for 2 years so was being ultra cautious. I didn't start running again until my dd2 was 8 weeks and I did a Forest Gump, dumped the baby on DH and said I gotta run!! Off I went into the dark and cold, managed 10 mins and felt on top of the world and carried on from there. Post marathon my long runs have been 10 miles but I think I will reduce those to 6 or 7 miles and try to get out three times a week and maybe swim a bit too. Good luck, its ace to know someone else is bonkers too. I just cannot imagine not running for the next 9 months or so but then I had forgotten how rubbish early pg can make you feel.

spilt just to add to B's advice - you also get continuity of care at home, the midwife is with you and you alone and doesnt have to rush off to see other ladies. IMHO I think problems are likely to be picked up sooner. The ambulance service know you are having a planned homebirth so are on standby. And if you change your mind you can request a transfer to hosp at any time. I can honestly say I enjoyed my second labour and managed on TENS and gas and air. It was such a positive experience compared to hospital and there is nothing like getting in your own bed with your baby.

spilttheteaagain · 25/06/2010 22:56

Thanks B and Madasa, it's definitely something I will look into more later on. The thing that makes me twitchy is that we're about 30 mins from hospital (quicker on a blue light obv!) and I know DH is nervous on those grounds.

However, I am very scared and uncomfortable in hospitals and I know that being stressed/scared makes labour slower & worse because it blocks helpful chemicals.
Everything you said B about feeling more relaxed, more freedom to do what you want, have things arranged to your comfort etc makes complete sense to me, and I imagine is exactly how I would feel.

Like everyone I don't want unnecessary interventions which are a lot more common in hospital, and I'd rather not have an epidural due to the Big Needle and I love the idea of a waterbirth. I also would prefer to avoid spending a night or two in hospital with a brand new baby and without DH.

I will muse on this one!

BUnderTheBonnet · 25/06/2010 23:03

What is DH worried about exactly? What does he think could happen in the 30 min transfer? Worst case scenario - emergency c-section - they could be finding a surgeon, prepping an operating theatre and finding an anaesthetist etc while you're in transit. Obviously there would be a slight delay, but it really is very slight. And the likelihood of that not being picked up and you being transferred to hospital at the first sign of any distress are minimal. Anyway, as you say, a topic for discussion in a couple of moths time. Direct him to the website though - it's great.
