I just phoned the docs too - mw booking appt on the 26th July (they won't see you until you are 8 weeks). A whole month away ... the midwife books the scan.

jiffily - hi there, there is 17 months between my two dd's. I think the extra few months will make a big difference. I can't remember how I coped, but I did and now they are such good friends (most of the time) .

I have managed to do some tidying and had 40 winks so I am feeling much better - phew!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 29/06/2010 16:40

Just checked the hospital near me and I can self refer myself to the MW led unit, I might just do that and not bother with the GP.

But dont know if I should go where I had DS1 as it was great care etc.

Mum2G · 29/06/2010 20:09

Hi Ladies, another recruit here Due 7th March. Baby no 2, DS 3yrs. Had hyperemesis last time, fingers crossed for this time!

Celia76 · 29/06/2010 20:58

Interesting how the referral systems differ.

Been on the hospital website where I had DSs and I can self-refer this time. Only worry is that I work there too, and I want to keeps things quiet until 12 weeks! Think I'll refer tomorrow but a little bit freaked out that it's real now!

I have got another preg symptom - spots! Gross!

Mummies expecting #2/3 or more - when are you going to tell your DCs??

BUnderTheBonnet · 29/06/2010 21:11

Hello new people!

delilah Best wishes and good luck on the April/May bus. Try the ttc after mc board too - they're lovely.

Still feeling slightly queasy. Tiredness hasn't really kicked in yet. IIRC from DD it all really started happening at 6 weeks, so I have another week to get things done.

OP posts:
jeffily · 29/06/2010 21:14

Yay, I noticed that we were due the same day Spilt. DD was 6 wks early, I wasn't even on maternity leave- so I'm not holding out much hope that this one will hold on till then either. Would be nice to get a bit further on though, so don't have to do the week in SCBU again!

Not sure about telling DD. As she's only 15 mo at mo it's not going to mean much to her, think we'll leave it till she notices and then explain if she asks. Guess it would be different if she was older though.

Must go and wash hair- just seem to remember my hair being glossy and in good condition last time- this time feels like I have rubbed a pack of lard into it 5 mins after washing...

Hope everyone manages to get some sleep in this heat.

Celia I wont be telling my two for as long as I possibly can! LOL DD1 has big ears though and it wont surprise me if she listens in to conversations I'll have with friends.. :D 40 weeks is a hell of a long time when you are nearly 5! And as for DS1 he's so little he wont have a clue (Im hoping)

Suppose I shoud edit the stats to include my 2DCs

God Im STARVING again!

Still suffering shock from finding out yesterday that we are expecting no. 4! This is pregnancy no. 5 but sadly one ended in miscarriage.

Hattie05 · 29/06/2010 21:34

Hattie05 · 29/06/2010 21:40

Celia i too am going to try and avoid telling them as long as possible, although when i was pregnant with dd3 i think the older two found out when i was about 6 weeks! As someone else said it's not easy to keep secret with 7 year old flappy ears around.

But they were fine until the last couple of weeks of the pregnancy they became really impatient to meet their new sister.

Anyone else going to plan a home birth?

Does anyone know the rules about flying and pg? I've always taken holiday's during my second trimester before, but this time we have a holiday booked for when i'm 7 weeks pg. I'm not concerned about flying, but wondered about insurance etc. thought i'd hold of seeing the doc's until we get back just in case. What do you think?

sunchild77 · 29/06/2010 21:47

Hattie - Hi, welcome! I think most holiday insurance "excludes" claims arising from pregnancy, you'd need to check your policy doll. Would love a home birth but too scared to attempt another Vbac, as have a crap and useless body and last time (DS1) it ended in yet another emergency c/s. I think this time I'll be an elective. Wow #4! Thats brave! (I'm still thinking 3 is brave...LOL)

Hattie05 · 29/06/2010 21:51

I still think 3 is brave!

Don't ever say your body is crap and useless - it's produced some beautiful beings has it not?

re. hol insurance - i was actually thinking if i don't go to docs yet - it won't be noted that i 'know' i'm pg therefore if anything happens abroad i will be covered as its unknown. what d'you think? Naughty i know.

sunchild77 · 29/06/2010 21:57

I see I wouldnt worry too much about it... Though I guess it depends on where you are going? If its EU then I guess you are covered under the reciprocal healthcare thing.... But if you are going to USA then I think I'd keep my gob shut!!!! :D

Madasajarofwasps · 29/06/2010 22:01

Hi hattie05 I flew in my first pregnancy when I was 14 weeks - no probs and I think our insurance covered us as it was early on - but you will need to check. I am also planning a homebirth, I had one with dd2 and it was an amazing experience so I hope I can do it again.

As for telling dc - well I want to wait as long as poss really because they will be sooooo excited. But my first midwife appt is in the holidays so they will have to come and there is no way they won't know what is going on!!

Hattie05 · 29/06/2010 22:20

Yes i think they cover over 12 weeks but not before.

Yes midwife appointments will be the giveaway i hadn't thought about that!
I'm a bit freaked out at the thought of attending midwife appointments with one baby still in a car seat to carry in! dd3 is only 7mths.
Does anyone else have such a close age gap?

My last two were very quick homebirths, i feel nervous that i've been so lucky with all 3 births, can i possibly be so lucky again?

mixedmamameansbusiness · 30/06/2010 09:49

Welcome newbies (although I only joined yesterday )

Hattie I think yours is the smallest age gap. It will be lovely when they are 2 and 3 etc and playing together though.

We told DS1 this morning and he understands as two of the teahcers at nursery have just gone to have babies. He says he would like another brother... haha when obv DH and I (although very happy to add anther liitle boy to our family it will be a lovely surprise to get agirl. DS2 i doubt will really get it until i start showing properly or possibly until we have the baby.

Told my mum last night as she is staying with us at the moment. She wasnt that pleased actually but she is great but has never really jumped for joy when I haveannounced a pregnancy. Her and my dad spent sometime convincing me that two is more than enough. They will come round though, I think she was a little worried where this might leave uni for me and that we are not particularly "flush" IYKWIM.

Dreading telling work. I work for a tiny company... jsut 9 people in all with 4 partners. Me going on mat leave will just be an inconvenience to them.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 30/06/2010 09:54

Oh and i wanted a homebirth last time but DH really wasnt behind it and I thought i was better off with him feeling comfy and a bit useful rather than really stressed at home... ended up with induction anyway so wasnt an option, plus th idea of staying in hospital over night means that he at least can get a good nights sleep means at least one of us is a little more on form.

How have you all (if you have already) made the decision about which hospital to use? I have a choice of 3 reasonably close. One is where I had DS1 and overall was a really good experience, but I have one much closer and i know that all through pregnancy the MW visits you at home rather than going to a clinic, plus this hospital is the one that comes postnatally.

Hattie05 · 30/06/2010 10:31

home visits are particularly attractive.

My midwife in the last pregnancy visited me at home for the last trimesters appointments and it makes it a whole lot easier when you got other little ones. I think i'd be swayed by that if i were in your shoes.

Mixed mama - i'm with you on dreading telling work. I'm going to have to return to work from maternity leave, only to tell them i'm going off again! I feel so embarrassed, i'll have a bump too so won't even be able to hide it for a few weeks.

snapdragon3 · 30/06/2010 10:45

Hello to the new ladies!

DD, who is 3.5 is very switched on so I think I'll be telling her as soon as I've got a decent size bump.
DS has just gone 2 so I'll talk to him about it closer to the time. My main focus will be explaining that Mummy will be in hospital for a day or two and that I'll have a very sore tummy for a while.
I find if I prepare them for this kind of thing well in advance, they ride with it better. It's gonna be another section so I might as well accept it!

Our hospital is just 5mins up the road in a car - a good 20 min brisk walk. The midwives there are all lovely and obviously I know a lot of them fairly well now (I seem to spend half my pregnancy in antenatal clinic having glucose tolerance tests, growth scans and being monitored after falling down the stairs!). I don't always see eye to eye with the consultant, but she's okay. I would love some home visits from the MWs later but it tends to be done at hospital. I'm considered high risk, being a bit on the large side and having big babies and previous sections.

I feel as though my body is defective too...it won't go into labour and they get stuck. Hey ho...

mixedmamameansbusiness · 30/06/2010 13:10

Snap - you should feel proud that you produce such big babies, that means you are doing something right.

Hattie - I feel for you going back only to tell them you will b off again. That isnt going to be great is it. Puts my telling work firmly into perspective though. They will just deal with it I suppose.

Hattie05 · 30/06/2010 16:27

Hi all

I have really tender tummy (inside not out) does anyone else? I think this is normal but would be nice to know for sure!

Mixedmama - yes i'm sure they'll be happy for you deep down even if they don't show it straight away.

snapdragon3 · 30/06/2010 16:43

Hi Hattie. I think I know what you mean and yes, my tum feels a bit tender on the inside. I put it down to stretching, what with having scars and whatnot, but I'm not sure. The uterus grows pretty fast doesn't it, especially by the time you get to #3 or #4. Does that sound right to you? Not getting any cramps or anything. And maybe it's our tums telling us to drink more and sit down (fat chance!)

Mum2G · 30/06/2010 17:31

Hi all, how is everyone? I am really excited and didn't feel as sick n tired as yesterday. Managed to avoid the mummies race at pre school sports day Still getting used to the news and wondering how i will cope with two - sure it will be fine - just a bit more noise and chaos lol! Luckily i seem to have a really supportive doctor (live in a different area to last pregnancy) and the midwife has been in touch to say that i will be allowed the meds that i had last time - that's a big relief.

I am not looking forwards to telling work either, i teach part time at a uni and will be leaving them right in it, with exams, marking etc but at the same time don't want to tell them too early

I think we will try and tell ds when i have got a bump

I think we will have a hospital birth, had planned a homebirth for last time but on the day bp was too high. Our hospital is only five mins car ride away too so that will make it easier for appt's

I can't beleive i was snacking at 10pm last night, normally i am in bed shortly after that time lol! Does anyone else have days when they can't stop snacking?
