Boostar I have a friend whose ds is called Digby! There have been a few raised eybrows & sniggers but they stuck to their guns & it totally suits him! Its a lovely name & he's a lovely little boy.

sassy34264 · 10/08/2010 16:01

To all you non 1st timers. What does it feel like when babies head is engaged? I was induced with DD, so it never happened, but right now i can't decide whether the feelings i'm feeling is a(nother) UTI or twin 1's head low down. It feels heavy down low but also like my bladder is full, except when i go the toilet- next to nothing comes out. I have been having a lot of braxton hicks in last 2 days and last time that happened it was a uti as i was told it can cause your womb to mimic labour. Not at hospital till thurs and it's a bit to uncomfortable to wait till then, if it is a uti.

sassy34264 · 10/08/2010 16:02

Welcome cluds

Monstermuncher · 10/08/2010 17:19

Hi Sassy, I don't know the answer to your question (DD was ELCS so haven't done the labour thing)but I have been wondering this myself. My bump doesn't look any lower but it feels very heavy down below and walking is getting a bit uncomfy so I was wondering if that means he has dropped down into place?

sazziej · 10/08/2010 18:33

Welcome cluds

Hope everyone is doing ok today.

I have been on a trip to John Lewis this afternoon to buy nursing bras - highly recommend their service....very helpful and friendly staff. Smile

bananastew · 10/08/2010 19:02

Sassy It sounds like it could be the baby. I feel like he's going to pop out & wave any minute. It also feels like I'm sat on his head. If you're worried about a UTI can you not contact your mw & ask her just to check?

So! tonights question! What WON'T you miss about being pregnant???

Heartburn, pelvic pain, being unable to move & people who want to make plans asking "do you think you'll have had him by.......cos I want to go away!!!" Erm! let me just ask him!

cinnamongreyhound · 10/08/2010 19:22

Can't help either Sassy34264 as I was induced too, DS was 2 weeks late and never more than 2/5th engaged.

I know what you mean about the when do you think you'll have him bananastew! All the parents of the children I childmind are trying to make plans and I really can't help them. They were happy to stay with me when I had the baby so they must have realised that there would be a little uncertainty!

I have had awful heartburn and have had slight pelvic pain in the last 2 weeks but otherwise I haven't suffered too bad. I won't miss how difficult it is to turn over in bed and hitting my belly on everything I try to walk past! Also, people asking how I am and then looking at my bump with a concerned face.

skyeplusbump · 10/08/2010 19:31

oohh, good one banana ummm let me think:

heartburn,
lower back/pelvic/muscle/joint/pain,
getting 'stuck' when playing on floor with dd,
not being able to play with dd properly
being unable to stand, sit, lie, walk for any length of time,
not being able to get comfy in bed,
being kicked in the ribs,
pepole touching my tummy,
pepole asking 'how are you' in an increadably patronising way (mil et al)
not being able to drink coffee without strangers tutting...

i could go on...Grin
but i'll be moaning about missing him being right there about an hour after he's born!! Grin

skyeplusbump · 10/08/2010 19:34

oh and

pepole asking hows bump? with concerned face...uhh how the hell am i supposed to know?!

35+1

bananastew · 10/08/2010 19:58

skye love the "Hows bump!" Grin

& all the others! rib pain & not being able to squeeze through small gaps!

skyeplusbump · 10/08/2010 20:10

Grin Grin Grin

i keep underestimating how large my belly is too and trying to fit past things/people,the people can think im being rude as i end up pushing them out of the way!Shock Grin

Monstermuncher · 10/08/2010 20:21

People saying " are you sure there's only one in there?"

Just getting comfy in bed then needing yet another wee

bellabelly · 10/08/2010 20:38

Oh god yes- underestimatig size of bump! I've ironed mine by accident TWICE!!! Ouch!

Jaysfourth · 10/08/2010 21:26

hi all

quick one just to update.

Came into hospital today for a EVC (turning of the baby as she is breech) discovered her to be an 'unstable lie' which means shes bobbing about all over the place. They took fluid measurements which measured of the charts, along with all other baby measurements....
Main concern is that if my waters were to break, there is no telling what part of the baby might pop out first and it potentially could be fatal say if it was the umbilical cord.. so the upshot of it is, they have admitted me to hospital for the foreseeable future and are hoping she stabilizes head down when they could then do a controlled rupture of membranes ( which involves some invasive stuff..) and induce me a little earlier.
Worst partabout it all is having to leave the kids at home. Parents (although divorced) are helping out, but i hate not being 'in control' and putting people 'out' if you know what i mean.

Anyway, will try and let you know what transpires. Sorry not read thread, hope everyone is ok xx

skyeplusbump · 10/08/2010 21:48

jay hope baby sorts his/herself out! in the meantime, dont worry about home...they will be fine,you are not putting anyone out!{smile}

i know what you mean-im a complete control freak!Grin
good luck to you both...hugs,and keep us updated when you can!xx

coppertop · 10/08/2010 22:44

Jaysfourth - Wishing you the very best of luck with it all. I hope the baby is able to get into a better position for you asap.

Boostar - My blood pressure tends to go haywire in pregnancy for no apparent reason. It's usually when the second number gets to 90+ that they start looking at it more closely. In my first pregnancy I was referred to the hospital for a blood-pressure profile to see if there was a pattern to it (basically sitting around in a comfy chair with a magazine while having my BP measured every 15-30mins for a few hours).

Even though I was perfectly relaxed and happy it went as high as 110 and then back down again. I had no other symptoms so that was basically it. I was eventually induced but only because I was over a week overdue, not because of the BP.

Bananastew - Things I won't miss:

  • my bump entering the room a good 30 seconds before the rest of me does.
  • the contortions involved in trying to get my socks on and off.
  • heartburn and a cupboard full of Gaviscon.
  • waddling like a penguin Blush
Debs75 · 10/08/2010 22:56

Sassy When baby is engaged you get the feeling you are kind of sitting on the head. DD1 was engaged from about 37 weeks and I felt like she was poking out of me, she wasn't of course but I remember sitting on the toilet and as I wiped if I pressed I could definitely feel her head. Other symptoms were weeing loads of times but not huge amounts, pains in the top of my thighs from her pressing on nerves and the biggest one, noticing my bump had dropped a few inches.

Had clinic to day and with any luck by this time Thursday I will have my own dainty baby to hold.
My growth scan showed that baby has not grown hardly in a month. Femur length has gone up a mm and head has only gone up about 15mm. Plus the waters have depleted. Don't know where they have gone as not noticed any wetness.
Had an internal and doc says cervix is favourable for induction. She also gave me a sweep and I have had period pains ever since. Could that be early labour starting or just my body saying OW?

Am a bit annoyed as it puts my plans out of whack. I had been hoping to push back induction as I didn't want it as a precaution but if it is because baby is not growing it turns into a neccessity.
We now have tomorrow to rearrange DS's respite, get the dog looked after, Pick up my pram, send the car seat back to Halfords as they sent the wrong one and get a new one delivered this weekend.
I hate being out of control and feeling rushed.

Does anyone know at 4 weeks early how long they might want to keep baby in?

Bessie123 · 10/08/2010 23:34

Sassy I'm sorry about my post yesterday; I have been feeling bad ever since I posted it. Thanks for being so polite in telling me to f* off.

About the baby engaging - my friend's second engaged fully at 32 weeks. She said while it was engaging she had a kind of dragging feeling down below but then she was much more comfortable, apart from being able to feel the baby was lower. She didn't have the baby till she was 39+3 so it didn't make it come any faster.

bellabelly · 10/08/2010 23:47

Gosh, Jaysfourth and Debs75, sounds like you are both going through the mill a bit at the mo - thinking of you both.

cinnamongreyhound · 11/08/2010 08:04

Fingers crossed that baby goes head down for you Jaysfourth and that you can avoid a cs. I know what you mean about being in hospital, when I told people I might have to go in before due date they all said that will be a nice rest! How lovely to sit in hospital with nothing to but worry about what's going on at home and not be able to do anything about it. They will all be fine though, they don't really need us Wink.

Hope you manage to get everything done Debs75 sounds like a long list! Fingers crossed the induction goes well for you. I have no idea about staying in, 37 weeks if full term so I can't imagine it will be long. Ask them before they start any induction so you are prepared for what's to come, good luck!

Lovely day here today, hoping it stays that way :)

comixminx · 11/08/2010 08:12

I thought my baby was at least a bit engaged - felt some pressure down below, some discomfort in the pelvic region, and a bit more room to breathe, but I went to the EVC clinic yesterday to get a presentation scan and was told that the baby's still free, though bobbing in and out of the pelvis rather. Ah well, everything else is well presentation-wise.

Jaysfourth, I feel for you! Very good luck with the baby's presentation and with what happens next.

Debs75, wow! I get you feel disrupted with your plans being out of whack, but just think of having a baby with you in a week's time!

Re what will you not miss about being pregnant - swollen feet and being asked "how's the bump" as a broken record thing!

i asked dp to stay at home to look after dd today,but he compleatly ignored me and went to work anyway,so now im crying...over nothing really{i know it was probably unreasonable for me to ask just because i feel a bit shitty,but i feel bad that dd suffers for it.}

sorry to grump at you guys,i know some of you are going through far worse at the moment..im just so hormonal and tired...Sad

Good luck Jaysfourth and Debs75 - hoping everything goes as smoothly as it possibly can for you both. Hopefully we'll be able to update the list soon....

I saw the consultant on monday who has okayed my homebirth hurray, so now I just need to wait for baby to decide to make an appearance. Much as I'd like to not be pregnant I also would like to wait until maybe the last week of the holidays (so I'd be 39wks) so I wouldn't have 3 to look after by myself in the holidays - nightmare! Fat chance it will come to order though Grin

So what do I need for a homebirth? I can't remember. I've got a couple of plastic dustsheets for the floor and a couple of old duvet covers to cover them. I bought a shower curtain for about £1.50 in Ikea which was a great bargain - thought I'd put that over the bed with another cotton sheet over it. I've got lots of those nighttime bed mats for kids which I thought would be useful (for afterwards if not before), and a bucket. I've also got lots of nice biscuits in!

I have a TENS machine, glucose tablets and an exercise ball. I think that's probably all I need. I have more or less packed a suitcase for Just in Case, or so it is all easily accessible if everything goes smoothly. It looks like a huge pile of stuff - things like towels, maternity pads and dressing gowns are so bulky! I haven't even put in a pillow.

The last two times I found tea tree oil and lavender oil to be invaluable in the bath - soothing and healing and antiseptic.
