Hi Park83 thanks, nice to be here.

Hi Cinnamon. Yes we did. First pregnancy. Being very naughty already, even the midwife thinks so. Hope yours is behaving better.

Jaysfourth · 30/07/2010 20:04

Hi all and thanks for the comments and thoughts

ethelina.... at least your LO is smaller than the monster i appear to be carrying which is a help ( i believe ) in turning them. Saying that though, i have read that subsequent babies turn better than first time ones, so who knows!?

have been bouncing on my ball all afternoon and hanging over it, on all fours, kids have thought it hilarious and all wanted a pony ride..... i managed the 2 yr old, the others had to do it themselves!

Park, they estimate the babies weight based on the size of their tummy, coupled with head circumference and femur length, as all of these measurement were of the charts there is little doubt it will be big, just how big is the question!

Acupuncture is a possibility - if i can get help with childcare, dont much fancy them coming with me, would give them all toooooo many ideas about what to do with pins!

patito · 30/07/2010 22:40

Congratulations Lovetodance Hope you and your boy are doing well.

I know what you mean bananastew about taking time to catch up! Have waited till tonight to get stuck into catching up, DS1 tucked up and DP off the weekend.

Alikat Ive been doing the hypnobithing thing aswell, but only have book, CD and worksheets as there aren´t any classes where I live. Even with just these parts have found it very relaxing, dont know what will happen during birth but am at least having a relaxing pregnancy which cant be bad.

Just to comment on cosleeping we did/do it with DS1, we never even bought a cot. He went from our bed to matress on floor in his own room (about 24mths old) to normal single bed. Never had any problems in moving him over but then we are quite relaxed and he just climbs in with us if he wakes up through the night. We also have large bed and I imagine all 4 of us will fit in if need be.

It is a god send re: feeding through the night, I even moved the changing unit to our bedroom for first couple of months (he pooed alot through night at first).

Right Im off to bed as here all weekedn on my own with DS1, so no lie-in for me tomorrow.

bananastew · 31/07/2010 10:27

Hi all, I'm suffering today! I had spd or whatever they call it now with ds but it seemed to settle once i finished work. The last couple of days I've been in quite a bit of pain in my pubic area. If you look at a skeleton of the pelvis, the bit where the bones meet at the front, kind of in line with your tummy button! every time I move it feels like its grating together. Does anyone have any tips as to how to help this? I can't spend the next 5 weeks like this. Not with ds to look after!

Does anyone know where I can buy the raincovers for the first wheels city twin?????

parkj83 · 31/07/2010 11:05

Hey banana, I've got SPD too, had it since 18 weeks (now 33!)

If you speak to your mw, you should be able to be referred for physio, which basically means you get told to stand up straight, don't over do it, be given some uncomfortable supportive girdles, and get given a piece of paper with some exercises to do to help support bump. Depending on the severity, they may give you crutches too, or even confine you to a wheelchair.

I would advise the following:

  • when getting in and out of bed, or the car, keep your knees together. So sit, and then swing.
  • When getting up or down from seats/sofa again, keep knees together, and either ask someone to help, or push up on knees to help get up evenly.
  • don't push things with your feet! (I am a fiend for this! dog bowl, recycling box, laundry basket etc etc. It hurts, but it's a habit!!
  • don't feel pressured to do too much round the house. Better to do half today, and still be able to walk at the end of the day, than finish it today, and be unable to do sod all the next!
  • if you can, get some satin PJs to help you turn more easily in bed (note to self, get some!!)
parkj83 · 31/07/2010 11:08

lol jay I can just imagine the kids and pins thing!

I think I'll have a look at my notes about DC2's sizing - I haven't looked all pg! I'm just not bothered!

How likely is it that DC2 is bigger than DC1?!

skyeplusbump · 31/07/2010 11:24

banana ask in the pushchair section on here...they know everything!
and try ebay!

AliKatt · 31/07/2010 11:51

PickleSarnie Definitely get that CD out! The earlier you start practicing the better (although there's a lady in our class who's now 38 weeks with 2 sessions left to go, so you're not too late!)

There are all sorts of threads about hypnobirthing on here, and different people have very different experiences, but for me the main advantage of the classes is that both DH and I spend some time being 'hypnotised' by someone who knows what they're doing so when I practice at home I can tell when it's working properly. Also, it's much easier to get DH to come to a class than to persuade him to read a fairly dull book and it is quite important to get your birth partner to buy into the whole thing because it's much easier to get into the deeply relaxed state if you have someone else to help you. He loves hypnotising me now

Even if you don't have classes, the CDs are really relaxing and the whole ethos of hypnobirthing is really positive. As patito says, even if it doesn't work for the actual birth, it's made the whole of my third trimester very relaxed, which has to be a good thing

Oops, sorry ladies - that turned out a bit more evangelical than I'd expected!!

Jaysfourth thanks for the tip about tonic. I glugged about half a bottle yesterday eve and ate a banana before bed and not signs of cramp last night It does seem rather a shame to be drinking it without any gin though... I drank it with ice and lemon so I could almost pretend Also, really impressed that you managed natural births with all those big babies. It's reassuring because it looks like mine will be a big'un too!

At our ante-natal class yesterday we discussed 'non-optimal' positions and what could be done. Some advice for turning breech babies was to do handstands in the swimming pool - apparently there is lots of anecdotal evidence indicating that this can be very effective. Swimming on your front can also help but NOT breast-stroke legs because this widens the pelvis and can make a breech baby more wedged down in the wrong position. Ditto bouncing on a birthing ball - leaning over it on all fours or sitting backwards on an upright chair is more likely to help. Apparently ECV is about 50% effective so definitely sounds worth a try to me!

Hope everyone's having a good weekend

Debs75 · 31/07/2010 12:32

Banana there is a shop on Ebay that does baby stuff and they sell the first wheels city twin so should sell the raincovers as well. How do you find it? I bought one second hand but have since got an infron of other as I couldn't get it out of the drive without moving the car first.

Had a bad night Thursday, got loads of Braxton Hicks and was nearly convinced I was in Early labour. They lasted a good hour so I got in loads of breathing practice. It meant I didn't get much sleep which was a pain as we went to Chester Zoo on Friday and I had to get the kids up at 6am.
We had a great time, despite the rain. Saw a baby elephant(2 weeks old) which was so tiny and cute and quite a few other baby animals. All DC's loved it although DS got really stressed out a few times at the large crowds and we spent quite a while trying to calm him down, Ribena Ice lollies worked well on him so good job they were the only thing not overpriced.
DC3 told us all the animals we saw and was really impressed with it all, not bad for an almost 2 year old.
we were on the go all day and by 2pm the backs of my legs and bum were in agony. Not a good idea at 8 months pregnant. Need a rest now for the next few weeks but with holidays will spend most of the time settling ds down.

Baby is lying transverse? head down but across my belly which is making for some interesting movements. DC3 was still moving around right through delivery hence the umbilical cord looking like she was wearing a feather boa.

skye What was it about? Don't blub sweet. Maybe don't look at it again. Although most mums are nice, some can be brutal. Ignore them.

sassy34264 · 31/07/2010 17:17

Parkj83 No they haven't offered me physio. These splints are helping alot though. It's not gone, but it's a lot more manageable......thank the lord.
Also, yes, second babies are supposed to be bigger! EEK.

bananastew · 31/07/2010 18:23

Thanks for the advice park I'm about to show DH a diagram of what I mean to try to help him understand more! I saw the Physio with Ds but as you said, they're next to useless, thats why i haven't bothered so far! Oh and my friend has just had her 2nd baby. 1st was 8lb 1oz, this one 8lb 10oz! But everyones different!

Debs I haven't used the buggy yet. Although I'm now slightly concerned about getting it on & off the drive! I hadn't thought of that! Ooops! Mind you, I spent ages telling people how wonderful it is & how it just fits in the car if we put the carry cot on the back seat. It took me a whole month to realise that there'll actually be a baby on the back seat!

Debs75 · 31/07/2010 22:34

Bananastew I got all excited that I could fit the buggy in the boot then realised that I will have ds and possibly dp sat in the boot seats. We struggle with the drive as it is quite short and our car is huge. We struggle getting our single pram past if I don't park close enough. Wish I lived at my mums house, I can get the double through the gate and down the path then in through the front door and her hallway is huge so I can leave it stood up without it being in the way.

Park Mine have got smaller each time by a few ounces so you never know. Labours were shorter though.

Jaysfourth · 01/08/2010 06:53

its August! officially i have 24 days to go....

I had such a realistic dream last night, i wont go into details as it wasnt a nice dream, but it involved me trying to birth a breached baby....i woke up (after only a cpl of hours sleep) and i just burst into tears. Havent slept at all since and am now feeling right royally shit.
I dont think i realised how stressed i am about the possibility of having a section, i just cant get my head around the idea. To me its like waiting for christmas then having someone else do all the unwrapping in front of me.
Call me mad but i just love labour, i want to feel it all... experience the act, feel my baby being born. I will feel really cheated if i cant do it.

sigh.....sorry for the early morning moan.

BBL hopefully feeling a bit more upbeat

mellymooks · 01/08/2010 08:29

Ah jaysfourth sorry you've had such a rough night, everything always seems so much bleaker in the middle of the night. I don't really have any words of wisdom and I know that you know ultimately you'll just be glad you and baby are ok regardless of how the birth comes about, but it's hard when you want to experience it all I know, try to stay positive - we're all here to listen!!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/08/2010 11:14

I know how you feel Jaysfourth although no one as mentioned cs to me. I didn't have the birth I wanted with DS and was hoping that this being my second it would be easier, come without induction and I would be able to experience child birth the way it should be. Thought it would fix the negative feelings I have about my first birth. I know there is no way that you can plan for what with happen but going into it knowing things aren't straight forward to begin with IS really stressful. I'm grateful that if baby hasn't moved that have only said they want me to go in before due date and wait but it's still no ideal as apart from what I will do with DS I have all my parents of the children I childmind to think about. I know ultimately it is about having a healthy baby but I think often Dr.'s forget about the mental health of mum as well as the physical health of mum and baby. I have a friend with a three year old and she is still brought to tears by the mere mention of her labour so it really is something that should be considered much more seriously.

On a more positive note, I went shopping for my nighties and a few other bits yesterday so my hospital bag is ready now apart from things to eat. DH wants prok scratchings and billatong for him and if I am anything like last time I won't want anything as I vomitted constantly but don't want to want something and not have it. My rented TENS should come next week (they dispatch 3 weeks before due date) and then I will zip up my bag and be finished hopefully!

35+5

Stickhasgrownup · 01/08/2010 13:22

jaysforth, I can sympathise as this baby has been breech (fingers crossed its now ceph) and I went through it all. I was thinking it would have to be an early cs as I've been early with other 2dc and they wouldn't want to risk it etc. However just the thought of having to labour in hospital, rather than home got me stressed... never mind the potential cs. Thankfully all back on track for me now.

I am in agony today though! We are redecortating dc's bedroom as they will now have to share to make way for the baby. Think I over did things yesterday as my legs don't seem to work properly and hurt even sitting down! I'm being a bit useless today...so fingers crossed we'll get it all done in time for bed tonight!

HI all

During bath time the other night DS was stroking my belly saying "baby coming, baby coming" and then the conversation followed
DS Baby coming , willy"
Me Mummy doesn´t have a willy
DS "Baby coming, bum"
Me (thinking how do i explain THIS to a 2 yr old) The baby swims down a big tunnel and comes through a hole here at the front.
DS Baby swimming out.
Im now feeling quite pround of myself for explaining it!!

Que playground yesterday, DS walks up to me sat on the bench promptly pulls open my knees sticks his head close to my vagina and says "me see big hole!!!" . All I could think was Thank God we´re not in UK and nobody understands what he´s just said, even it looks weird.!!

On the plus side, Ive accidently found a drink that has stopped my heartburn. Couldn´t face eating much on Saturday due to BH´s making me feel sick so made up homemade Gatorade style drink and haven´t suffered with heart burn since!! Its also really refreshing on a hot day. If your interested its:

Juice of 1 lemon
1 tsp bicarb soda
3/4 tsp sugar (or to your taste)
1 & 1/2 pints of water
Stir till alls dissolved.
I add a couple of mint leaves for taste.

Debs75 · 01/08/2010 19:43

Patito That is priceless, am laughing so much I need a wee.
Ds has noticed I am pregnant and spends a lot of time gazing into my belly button. Thank God he doesn't know where they really come from.

skyeplusbump · 01/08/2010 19:56
