OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
parkj83 · 29/07/2010 15:39

Thanks stick my local council do them at one of their pools, so I'll investigate next week (see if my DBro can be persuaded to babysit...!)

I don't think I'll be leaping about either. Maybe it'll help with my foot though?

parkj83 · 29/07/2010 17:33

Skater just spoken to my aunt, she says her 1st labour was 14hrs, resulted in ventouse, 2nd labour was 7.5 hours, not as painful either, and no assistance, even though OP

Obviously, as other ladies have said, baby can move, and everybody's labour experiences are different too

My aunt def recommends leaning on a birthing ball if poss too, as that can help LO to turn x

bananastew · 29/07/2010 19:14

Crikey! You go away for 5 days and it takes hours to catch up!

Love2Dance Congratulations on the birth of your baby boy! I hope he's still doing well & you're getting better too. Must have been really frightening for you!

I've had an eventful few days! Ended up in hospital last friday with "mild contractions!" Took 4 hours to see a Dr then another 2 hours for them to decide whether or not to give me a steroid injection to mature the lungs! They didn't as the cut off is 34 weeks & I was 34+1!! Went away to Scarborough & overdid it. Came home yesterday with horrendous pains! Just like contractions! Baby felt so low I thought he was going to stick a hand out and wave. Agony with pelvic pain so went to bed at 6.30! Luckily its all died down today but I'm going to have to take it easy! Is anyone else struggling to accept they're 8 months pregnant. I still look at heavily pregnant women & think "They can't have long to go" As my Mum said I'm about as heavily pregnant as you can get!

skyeplusbump · 29/07/2010 20:12

bananastew thats exactly how i feel! its so weird, i FEEL 8 months pregnant but i cant except that i actually AM 8 months pregnant! keep looking at pregnant mums at toddler groups thinking "they must be knackerd!"

im gunna get such a shock when an actual baby comes out!

sazziej · 29/07/2010 20:45

Oh I'm glad it's not just me....

AliKatt · 29/07/2010 22:50

DH and I have been doing a hypnobirthing course. It's really helped me to feel relaxed about the birth - I'm positively looking forward to it This is my first baby so maybe I'm completely naive, but even if it doesn't work completely I can't see any harm in a bit of positive thinking and the hypnotherapy is brilliant for relaxing

By my understanding an OP baby can lead to a more difficult and/or longer labour, but in many cases it doesn't. One thing is for sure - worrying about it won't make any difference so it's probably best avoided if at all possible!

Here's hoping that all of us have straightforward and enjoyable labours. Even if some of us don't, I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end

sassy34264 · 29/07/2010 22:53

I'm about 12 months pregnant i think! Ha.
Had my 34 week scan today and sonagrapher said she didn't expect to see me again. I have a 36 week scan booked and a 38 week scan booked but she obviously thinks i will be having these babies in next 2 weeks. Saw doctor 40 mins later and he said we will be booking you in for a c-section in between 38-39 weeks! So he obviously doesn't think i will be having these babies in next 2 weeks. Rolling eyes. Just nod and smile Sarah, nod and smile.

cinnamongreyhound · 30/07/2010 08:04

Good news from consultant sassy34264, I'd be inclinded to believe what he says over sonorapher- maybe she's on holiday in 2 weeks

I splept all night last night until DH woke me at 7 and I feel great, sure by 5 this evening I'll be tired again but it's so lovely startin the day feeling totally refreshed! Really, really, needed a wee when I did wake up though! Had some really vivid dreams too, had everyone I know in them I think!

Swordfishtrombones · 30/07/2010 09:03

So much to catch up on again! Kittens, hiccups, posterior babies...what else have I missed?

DD1 was posterior and didn't turn. She came out stargazing (love that phrase!). I didn't have anything to compare it with in terms of being painful, but I managed with gas and air so it can't have been that bad. It did hurt the bsae of my spine though, but that had been quite sore for the last bit of pregnancy anyway.

During contractions I just wanted DH to press my tailbone REALLY hard which seemed to work really effectively.

Week one of the summer holidays is almost complete and I've survived! Had a lovely day yesterday with DD1 and her friend which involved Nando's, Shrek Forever After, and lots of treats for them that kept them very happy and entertained. Unfortunately those kind of days end up being a bit costly. The cinema is the way to go though for an hour or so of peace in the middle of the day. Toy Story next week I think .

I've been imagining that I'd have this baby somewhere between 38 and 40 weeks, but it suddenly dawned on me it could be up to 42. How did I forget? I don't know if I'll be able to cope until then. I don't think I'll be able to face all the 'haven't you had it yet?' comments from the school mums in September.

Also if it is two weeks late it might come on my birthday and I don't want that to happen! There are nicer ways of spending a birthday than in labour! (would I get double champagne afterwards though?).

parkj83 · 30/07/2010 09:09

I must be mad then, I think I look 8+ months pg but everyone else says I'm carrying neatly.

I'm with you on the whole pain thing banana. I just have to look at the kitchen and it hurts. Thing is, once I start cleaning, I just can't stop (cast iron excuse to not clean, I know! ) I scrubbed everything last night, including the toasted sandwich maker, and the base and feet of my food processor

AliKatt · 30/07/2010 09:16

Aaaarrrrggg - leg cramps!! They really got me last night My leg is still sore! Second time in 3 days (and only about the 4th time in my life!) Definitely buying bananas today.

Sassy, have you already decided to have a c-section because of complications, or are you hoping that they come naturally first?

I'm starting to feel quite excited for all of you who are getting really close! Looking forward to lots of happy birth stories on here within the next few weeks

Mines not due until 25th and (for no reason at all) I'm assuming he's going to be late... so maybe he'll be an October baby rather than September. I wonder if any of you will still be around, or if I'll be on here talking to myself!!! (not uncommmon ;) )

sassy34264 · 30/07/2010 09:33

Woke up in the 3am range for the last two nights in so much pain. Damn this carpal tunnel syndrome. Would rather go through labour than this. Went to A & E at 5am. (You need to book two weeks in advance to get in at my doctors) Got two wrist splints.
Never occurred to me that it would be worse in this pregnancy than the last one. You'd think it would considering everything else has been!

parkj83 · 30/07/2010 10:19

Oh dear sassy at least you've got some splints now though x

Have you been recommended for physio too?

PickleSarnie · 30/07/2010 10:37

AliKatt, so what do they actually teach you at the hypnobirthing classes? I bought the DVD from the NCT but I've yet to take it out of the wrapper yet. Was thinking about listening to it on the commute home but it won't put me in a total trance like state meaning I regain consciousness at totally the wrong end of the ocuntry will it?!

SkaterGrrrrl · 30/07/2010 13:50

Thanks everyone for the OP advice!Really good to hear fromMNers who have been there.

I am going to do lots of waggling on all fours and other sexy moves to get baby to budge!

Jaysfourth · 30/07/2010 13:50

Alikatt, drink tonic water for leg cramps, not slimline, 'full fat', i suffer GREATLY with excruciating cramps, inner thigh, calf and feet. I cry, sweat, get a dry mouth, scream all the while trying to walk it off - to no avail alot of the time... normally lasts like 10 plus minutes and the next day i feel bruised as anything... i do sympathize, totally. Since drinking a bottle a day, i haven't had any.........dont know if its the tonic water or not, but touch wood its working!

Sassy, glad you have some splints now, its a horrid feeling, carpel tunnel

Had a consultants appt and growth scan this morning. Baby is extended breach and is off the scale with measurments. Currently estimated at almost 9lbs...... great huh....

so after chatting with consultant, i have opted for a ECV. Have left it till 38 weeks to have it done, so that i can try and do all i can for her to turn... Consultant says though, that as the baby is going to be big and if the ECV doesnt work, will have to have CS......

Has anyone else had any experience of this manouvere? its babsically an external turning of the baby.....doesnt sound good does it and i know there are some risks involved, but i feel like i need to try... does that make sense?

cinnamongreyhound · 30/07/2010 14:54

Jaysfourth I don't have any experience, but have read up on it as mine was transverse at 32 weeks. If you are going to be booked for a cs anyway then I think it's worth giving it a try but have read it can lead to emcs as baby can get distressed. Have read threads on MN which vary from people saying they needed G&A and others saying it wasn't even mildly painful!

When I had my growth scan was only told that he was average not given an estimated weight but scans can be out with weight. How big were you others? Hope that she does move in the mean time. I have been doing the inversions off the sofa from spinning babies website so worth a go and there's always acupuncture, good luck!

I've been having loads of really strong braxton hicks the last few days. Feel like baby is moving down a bit and yesterday evening in Tesco DH was laughing at me as I had to keep stopping due to very tight bump! He did put the shopping in the boot even if he was being slightly unsympathetic! Really don't remember them with DS.

Jaysfourth · 30/07/2010 15:21

cinnamon - both boys over 11lbs and my first DD 91/1 so i do have big babies. All have been natural births and so wanted this one to be also, hence why i chose to go for it!

seems i am reading the right stuff, it conquers with what you have said, so heres to lotsof 'all fours ' and ball bouncing!!

parkj83 · 30/07/2010 15:40

Wow, those are big babies Jaysfourth Good luck with encouraging LO to turn

I thought DS was big at 8lb 12+ in comparison to me, my siblings and my nephews (all 7lb and under)!

I'd love to know an estimate how big DC2 will be, but no indication was given with my 20 week scan about size, so I'm in the dark completely.

The rate at which s/he's rolling around though, s/he may well be on a par with DS... . And the braxton hicks are starting to build up too!!

32+6

cinnamongreyhound · 30/07/2010 15:45

Eek! Hoping this one will be smaller than DS as I'm sure he got much bigger in the 2 weeks he was overdue. Agree that after 3 natural births with such big babies you'd want the fourth to be too. Will be thinking spinning thoughts for you and keeping fingers crossed.

ethelina · 30/07/2010 16:11

Hey there, have been lurking here for a week or 2 though never posted. I'm due 02/09. Jaysfourth just wanted to say i empathise with you. My baby is also extended breech, but only about 4lb 10oz as of weds (35/40), As i'm a week behind you I will follow any developments you have with bated breath.

Not seeing consultant til next week so dont know what they will suggest yet. MW warned me they may not be able to turn him due to being extended but I will wait and see.

My SIL had ECV for transverse DS2 and didn't think it was particularly uncomfortable. Didnt work though, he turned right back around while they watched on the monitor. She had ELCS at 09 weeks, all ok.

ethelina · 30/07/2010 16:13

Oops that should have been 39 weeks not 09 - Must be due to the lack of chocolate today.

parkj83 · 30/07/2010 17:04

Hi ethelina welcome to the thread

Oh dear with your SIL's LO, glad everything worked out ok anyway

cinnamongreyhound · 30/07/2010 17:26

Hi ethelina I think we have chatted before on a thread about turning babies. You are due 2 days after me, can't remember is this your first baby?
