Blimey sassy34264, the list of pram criteria for twins seems much more complicated than just for the one. Or perhaps I've been a bit slack in my pram choosing. My main criteria was that it had a bar handle so I could push it whilst holding a coffee in my other hand!

sassy34264 · 28/07/2010 13:46

picklesarnie Ha. Maybe it's just me being a fussy bugger! It's because you can just push a singleton pram in your front door and close it behind you. Imagine you're at the front door and the pram doesn't fit. How you going to get pram and 2 babies in?

Jaysfourth · 28/07/2010 14:10

it is a lovely pram Sassy... i have come across it a lot as i have been looking at double buggys. Decided on the iCandy,it will hold a car seat and a toddler, then in about 4-6 mths when my toddler wont want to walk (basing this on the other two i have)it then turns into a single pushchair which means i dont have to buy another. You can also have both chairs facing you or away, AND for me the most important it has a really high handle, DH 6ft4 and i am 5 10...had the power jane for a trial over Glastonbury, it was so low gave both of us bad backache!

sassy34264 · 28/07/2010 14:32

Jaysfourth Never really looked at the icandy, because i wanted them to be next to each other, but just had a look now and they are nice. Especially the peach blossom twin one. I'm on a twin thread, and lots of them are getting icandy's.
We are both short arses! 5'4 and 5'9! Babies were measuring off the scale for everything except femur length.......enough said.

Jaysfourth · 28/07/2010 14:47

i can understand that, i wanted my boys (11mths apt)to go side by side and had a Mountain Urban Double, which i loved and had for ages. This time i dont trust my youngest boy ( 21/2) not to poke new baby in the eye or something equally treacherous, hence have gone for the tandem. plus - as i said earlier, its easy to transform into the single that i will need in the not too distant future!

Such a decision to make!

sazziej · 28/07/2010 15:12

oh sassy.. what a beautiful pram!

My pram is due next week and I can't wait! DH and my brother are busy assembling the nursery furniture as I type.... wardrobe and cotbed done, just finishing chest of drawers... all very exciting.. if a little scary... makes it all seem real!

I can't wait to get all the baby clothes washed now and in the drawers / wardrobe ready

cinnamongreyhound · 28/07/2010 16:30

Lovely pushchair sassy34264, I have a double for childminding which is great for taking out in the forest but it doesn't fold very small- stays in the garage and I rarely take it in the car. It does fit through my front door though, which is great when its raining! My single was £16 from Ebay when pregnant with DS and hoping it will last for this one. I am planning a sling for the baby for when I'm childminding and it then gives me the option to have baby in it while out and about if DS gets too tired. He's a very good walker as I often have 3 under 4's and he's the oldest so doesn't get much choice .

Have had 7 children most of the day today and I'm now knackered! Promised the 3 that are left that I would bake with them yesterday, so we are off to make cupcakes when they have finished their snack . I should learn to say no to parents and children really! Only 2 hours and then it will be time to cook tea, put DS to bed and walk the dog. I must be crazy only having 2 weeks off!!

parkj83 · 28/07/2010 16:50

I'm going to have issues no matter what the style of mine, as I live in a coach house, so as soon as I'm in the front door, I hit the stairs.

S'gonna be fun when coming back from the school run with dogs in tow...! They're trained to wait at the bottom of the stairs while I go up, so I don't have to worry about tripping over them, but I'll have to find a way of fitting both them, and at least the pram/pushchair chassis into a stairwell entry of 3' by 5'...

I suppose I could take the dogs during the day while DS is at school, but still I think I'm gonna have problems for a few days till I get the hang of it!

comixminx · 28/07/2010 17:54

Sassy, lovely pram! We're going for an Oyster but then we don't have all the complications of catering for twins / baby&toddler.

myBabySweepstake · 28/07/2010 20:20

Hi Ladies,

The waiting is nearly over!

I have 2 little girls, Emily 3 and Lucy 8 months. I also have a website, mybabysweepstake.com. I wote it when I was waiting for Emily - she was 12 days late. It allows you to set up a sweepstake on when your baby will arrive, how much it will weigh and whether it will be a boy or a girl. It also takes name suggestions from your betters if you want them!

Anyway, I just thought I'd tell you about it incase any of you would like to have a go.

The website is mybabysweeptake.

Thanks for your time,

Kerry

Jaysfourth · 28/07/2010 21:01

i had a look at that site, it doesn't work

i write as i bounce on my ball!

Monstermuncher · 28/07/2010 22:00

Woooohoooo I have finished work today! My lovely work colleagues spoiled me rotten and gave me a fab send-off. It really made me realise that there's not long to go now at all. Anyone else a teeny bit scared yet?

bellabelly · 28/07/2010 22:35

woohoo, monstermuncher! I finished last week when term ended and it feels weird to think I won't be back in Sept. Alsomakes it all feel more real - not a teeny bit scared, more terrified! Have made a start on the girls' room now so feeling less stressed about that...now if only I could get round to packing a hospital bag...

Sassy - v envious of your pram, looks lovely!

Skye - vv envious of your new kitten, I really want one but can't persuade DH that we need more cats!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 29/07/2010 07:58

I'll let you know about being scared next Thursday Monstermucher after my scan! If baby is not too big and not long transverse then I think I will just be relieved and excited. Fingers crossed! It's lovely that they made a big effort and spoilt you

JodeyLea · 29/07/2010 08:38

Yes! Scared and anxious!!!!!! Keep having horrible thoughts about having a really traumatic birth and things going wrong! I've been so relaxed up till now but since being off work, I've been watching the Home & Health channel which is full of baby stories. Not sure if this has triggered these feelings! Didn't sleep well last night at all.

Also, was having some pains in my upper abdomen yesterday. I kind of knew it felt like trapped wind but part of me was getting upset thinking it could be the baby!!! The pains have now gone, thankfully.

comixminx · 29/07/2010 11:59

I'm a bit nervous just because I've never done it before and have no idea what it will really actually feel like! Don't feel scared as such though, as I've done a fair amount of reading and goign to the NCT classes and so forth... Also we had a really good useful meeting with the doula last night and worked on the birth plan (hah, plan - preferences that may or may not happen, but hey).

parkj83 · 29/07/2010 12:09

I'm a teeny bit more apprehensive rather than scared, as I experienced all of the birth apart from the actual delivery with DS. I had all the build-up, but missed out on the actual event!

But I'm also looking forward to this one IYSWIM

I'm thinking about going to some aquanatal classes - can anyone recommend them? What do you do?! Can you just join whenever, and how far along can you do them till?

SkaterGrrrrl · 29/07/2010 13:38

I wasnt scared about labout before but I am now! Saw my consultant this morning. Baby's position is slightly worrying ? s/he is ?OP?. (Occiput Posterior). Apparently this can mean long / painful labour.

Any advice?

Monstermuncher · 29/07/2010 13:57

My mw told me off for reading horror stories on Mumsnet! DD was an elective CS as she was breech so I've never laboured or even felt a contraction. I guess it is the fear of the unknown as much as anything else, although the thought of forceps freaks me out to be honest.

No idea about the OP SkaterGrrrrl but I know that you can do things to change the baby's position. Mine is currently head down but back to back so I have been scrubbing my kitchen floor the old fashioned way on all fours (so undignified with my big old bum in the air) as thats supposed to help him turn. Not sure if it is having the required effect but at least I have a clean floor and it gave Mr Monstermuncher a giggle Some of the pregancy threads have mentioned a site called spinng babies

parkj83 · 29/07/2010 14:10

Hi Skater, that's how DS ended up lying - he was ok before my waters were broken, but he wriggled as they were broken, and poof, I ended up having a forceps delivery.

I do know it's possible to have a normal labour though, as my aunt's DC2 was OP, and she delivered normally, just gas and air I think. Pass if it was any more painful or longer than her DC1 though. I'll ask

ooosabeauta · 29/07/2010 14:25

Hi Skater, my ds was like that too. Many turn during the labour I believe, and some from doing the exercises, and some not (mine not), apparently depending a little on your type of pelvis. If your pelvis is 'android' or 'anthropoid' it can make the baby prone to settling and re-settling in a back-to-back position. Hope s/he turns for you! I'm more worried this time than I was before my first. Have got an appointment next Thursday with a consultant to discuss 'birthing options' but really don't know how many 'options' I'll be allowed!

LadyRabbit · 29/07/2010 14:25

Hey all, hope everyone's well

Had my first ante natal class this week. I think DH enjoyed it more than I did - everything became frighteningly real as far as I was concerned. And the baby dolly scared the life out of me. Funnily enough, one of the things that we covered was baby position/engagement and palpating baby before delivery. I can't remember how far along you are SkaterGrrrrl but I recall ante natal class lady saying that baby can still move about a bit til 37 weeks at least. Dunno if that helps.

Have to say, while monstermuncher is right - there are tons of horror stories of childbirth on here (for that, read the female equivalent of war stories) - I realised how much useful info I have picked up on here over the last few months.

Is anyone else getting very emotional? I can't watch anything remotely distressing; had to stop watching that movie 'The Road' 10 minutes in the other evening, and the news story today about that 3 yr old boy has just had me in floods. It's getting ridiculous now - even the dog on a packet of Andrex is making me feel a bit teary. Oh Gawd.

cinnamongreyhound · 29/07/2010 14:27

OP is the same as back to back Monstermuncher and my DS was in that position towards the end of pregnancy and didn't turn during labour. I was induced due to being overdue but despite that I pushed him out without assistance. My labour was 33 hours but don't know if that was because of his position or because of the induction!

Did try the usual Skatergrrrl crawling on hands and knees, being on hands and knees and leaning over birthing ball. Plus sitting on a dining chair backwards and spending as little time of the sofa as possible.

Stickhasgrownup · 29/07/2010 15:23

Skatergrrrl -My DC1 was back to back. Was told to always sit leaning forward and go on all fours to help him turn. He didn't before I went into labour, but turned at some point during and came out the right way. For me the difference in labour between him and DC2 was that I was convinced that I needed a poo with back to back labour! I even toddled off in the midst of huge contractions to sit on the loo! But it was just his positon.
Other than that I don't think it really effected me too much... other than midwife made me lean forward much of the time (so postions were more limited) to try and make him turn... and he did!

parkj83 - I went to my first Aquanatal class, at my local council leisure centre, last week. I'm off to my second tonight. Was 34 weeks last week and there were people of all stages. I plan to go up until 38 weeks as I'm then on holiday for the 39 week class and the following one will be on my due date!
Don't think you ever get too preg for them!
Last week it was really nice and gentle... more stretching really and just getting you moving gently. I felt really good for it. Obviously if you wanted you could leap about and do the workout more vigously but most were like me

comixminx · 29/07/2010 15:35

Skater, the baby can move at any time including during labour - babies can start off not OP and end up like that during labour apparently - so it's not set in stone at all. I was reading a lot about it here, though as with you this is my first one so who knows how much it helps...
