That sounds rubbish parkj83

Debs75 · 16/07/2010 23:09

Feeling icky with chocolate was one of my first pregnancy signs. It's just got worse and worse. Have found drinking milk helps in the short term but really need some more gaviscon.

Can't stop peeing either. I go and then the bump moves and by time I am back downstairs I need to go again

JodeyLea · 17/07/2010 09:28

Know that feeling Debs75. I'm finding it really annoying. It normally happens at the most inappropriate times too. For instance, I have to take the dog for a walk so I go to the loo just before leaving the house. 5 minutes into the walk I need it again and the baby is pushing down on my bladder and I suddenly go from a brisk walk to almost not being able to walk at all! MAD! Or when I'm on stage, I drink a lot of water when singing to keep my throat lubricated (especially in this muggy heat and under stage lights), and I know by the second song I'm going to need to go again and often have to nip back stage for a quick one in between songs. It's getting slightly ridiculous! Even if you have been sitting down and then get up to go to the loo, I can hardly walk. But, this is all part and parcel of this wonderful little miracle that is happening inside. We really are truly blessed. I work with a girl who has being going through fertility treatment for a while now and it always makes me think about how lucky I am and what a little miracle becoming pregnant is.

I'm sure this is on here somewhere (if so I'll go back and search), but those of you who have already packed their bags for hospital/birthing centre, what exactly have you got in there? Especially those of you who have already had children, what advice would out give for what to take? I know there are lists to follow on the net but do they miss anything off that you think is worth taking??

sassy34264 · 17/07/2010 09:45

My list is this:
For baby
Muslim squares
Hat
Sleepsuits
Vests
Scratch mittens
Cotton wool
Wet wipes
Nappies and cream
Cardigan
Baby towel

For me
Nighties
Dressing gown
Slippers
Shampoo and conditioner
Shower gel
Deordant
Maternity pads
Breast pads
Toothe paste & brush
Hair brush
Bobbles
Feeding bras
knickers
Flip flops (for shower)
Towel
Breast feeding pillow
Going home clothes

And i'm also taking food for snacks.

sassy34264 · 17/07/2010 09:51

oh, forgot face cream. You could add make-up, but as i do not wear it from one day to the next, i can't see me suddenly starting after child birth! I may take my blusher seeing as i looked like death warmed up straight after having dd though!

parkj83 · 17/07/2010 10:05

Oh it is cinnamon, especially as my DH is a chocolate fiend, and munches on whatever chocolate I can't manage

Thing is, when I want chocolate I've got to have it, pain or not! lol

I can sympathise with the peeing too deb. I usually need to go just before collecting DS from school, but as soon as I step on the playground, I have to go again

And I find I'm getting up more in the night now too.

bananastew · 17/07/2010 11:50

You're all describing me!! Chocolate is one of my main heartburn triggers but the only thing I HAVE to have! heartburn trigger or not!

Weeing! I could go 20 times an hour! Not sure how much is psychological tho because I know if I can't go I can manage!

JodeyLea Thanks for asking about the bag again! I didn't dare cos its been mentioned so many times! I think I've pretty much got everything listed by Sassy I would also add a list of contacts for who to tell when baby's arrived & a camera! Oh and maybe a blanket for the baby!

Juice was an absolute must for me after the birth too. Gas & air really dries your mouth!

sassy34264 · 17/07/2010 13:20

bananastew didn't add blanket cos the hospital give them to you. (I have a lovely picture of my DD at 24 hours old swaddled in a stamped property of....... hospital)!
And also cos mine are going to be born in August (doubt i'll be allowed past 38 weeks) i think a cardigan for bringing them home will be enough for the weather. They are only supposed to have 1 more layer on than us. If i was having them in september, especially late on, i would probably bring a blanket for coming home though.

Bonners · 17/07/2010 13:41

Hiya parkj83

Apparently preggy women can get sensitive teeth because of the extra acid from heartburn. My dentist told me to use Sensodyne and that has helped. Get the original pink stuff because you don't have to use it every day, just a couple times a week.

Bonners · 17/07/2010 13:43

Is anyone getting shooting pains in their bits from the baby kicking weirdly? Just this week I think my baby's moved and it just feels all weird in my lower abdomen. It's hard, so I'm guessing baby's back is facing forward and it's kicking me downwards and backwards. At first I thought something was wrong. Well, I'm still a bit worried. Anyone else have this?

Debs75 · 17/07/2010 18:13

Yes getting shooting pains down there as well. Baby is on my left side, head down with his back as far left as possible, feet are either under my ribs or kicking my right side. With DD1 she was head down and would stretch out and kick through my ribs, a very odd feeling

bananastew · 17/07/2010 19:34

Sassy I just remember DH going out and buying a blanket for DS he was born on the 16th Aug! Can't really remember why. Infact I really can't remember why! That's pretty bad.

Anyway. Really pissed off tonight. I've done quite well on the tears front until now! I've just accidently found out that one of my so called best friends is having a birthday night out tonight! I'm pregnant! Not ill. I can still go out for a laugh & a lemonade! Its just really pissed me off cos its that assumption that you're pregnant so you become boring & completely loose any sense of fun. My entire life now revolves around ds & pregnancy! There is obviously no me anymore! I've had a fantastic day with my family visiting & dow I just feel really flat & fed up!

Sorry for moaning!

Bonners Is this your 1st? I worried a lot over things like this with ds but 2nd time round I can see its all normal! It sometimes feels like he's kicking by backside!

sassy34264 · 17/07/2010 20:18

bananastew That's awful. I'd be really upset and mad too. I'd be tempted to send her a text now and say, 'Heard about your birthday do. Sorry i wasn't invited, hope you all enjoy yourselves without me.'
Would defo have to let it be known i knew and wasn't happy.

bananastew · 17/07/2010 20:38

I'm waiting for the photos to appear on facebook! I don't want to cause problems for my friend who told me! She assumed I knew! But don't worry. She'll know I know & that I'm less than impressed! I'm over the upset bit now. Just absolutely fuming!

ooosabeauta · 18/07/2010 11:31

Oh that's irritating bananastew! I'm getting quite irritated by lots of things at the moment and I can't tell whether it's my hormones or whether people are being particularly annoying at the moment! Dh is being quite diplomatic, probably in the hope of staying out of the firing line...

Had a ridiculous day yesterday. We had to go and visit my MIL, who is a 2 1/2 hour drive away, which would have been manageable, but there were two major accidents on the M25 and so the journey took over 5 hours just to get there, and then 2 1/2 back in the evening. She has some NPD tendencies, and made me feel like it was somehow our fault that we'd been stuck at a standstill for over 2 hours. She seemed too put out by our lateness to say anything along the lines of 'how are you feeling? That's a long journey with a toddler and a big bump.' Maybe I'm being precious. But it was a nightmare. While we were stuck on M25 I was bursting for the loo, and oh, the indignity!, my dh went along the queue and asked a nice couple with a caravan if I could borrow theirs ! I just couldn't hold on, and everyone was standing around out of their cars so I really couldn't go on the bank (my dh's first suggestion).

Anyway, sorry, had to have a little rant. To make matters worse, MIL asked whether she was invited to ds's birthday in August, which I had been avoiding because she is hyper-critical and talks a lot about how dreadful everyone and everything is, and it's being held at my parents' house so I don't want to inflict it on them. So now I've got to find a way of stopping this happening. Any ideas?

Re. sensitive teeth - my dentist put a 'de-sensitising treatment' on mine last time, and said make sure to use a toothbrush with bristles which are all the same length, like Sensodyne ones, not zigzagged, like Colgate, because the zigzag ones cause more sensitivity.

Sorry that's a long post again. Once I get started, I have to offload! My parents are away (who I'd usually do this to) and I feel bad complaining so much to dh about his own family

30+4

cinnamongreyhound · 18/07/2010 12:59

My in laws are a similar distance away ooosabeauta but luckily they are not a close family so DH doesn't feel like visiting very often! We have been in a similar situation with them being annoyed at us being late, like we wanted to sit in traffic instead of with a cuppa at their house! Leave it to DH to make an excuse to his mum about the party

That's rubbish about needing to wee in someone's caravan, kind of them though. We ended up in an extra 30mins of traffic to get off at the services so I could wee when we came back from our hols.

My baby is still moving a lot but I'm pretty sure his head is down at the moment, stil not very low but at least in the right direction!

Off out to a very boring steam engine rally at 2, which the boys will love! Hoping it doesn't get any hotter.

parkj83 · 18/07/2010 17:13

Oh thanks for that Bonners

I'll get some - I use colgate sensitive, but the only way I get any relief is by brushing pretty much straight after I eat!

I did speak to my dentist about it, but he just looked stumped and said it might be hormonal changes, and to come back if it got any worse...

Hello?! I can't eat without being in pain, how much worse can it get?!?!

I have to apologise profusely ooosabeauta: I just had a mental image of Sandra Bullock in Two Weeks Notice, where she had the squits in the middle of a traffic jam, and Hugh Grant dragged her to an RV a couple of cars along! Was very funny in the film, but I can imagine how stressful in reality x

Thanks for the tip with the toothbrush too - I wasn't aware of the uneven bristles causing havoc too. Hmmm. Will have to go, well, toothcare shopping next week! lol

31+1

sassy34264 · 18/07/2010 19:45

32 weeks Not sure if this will work or not! Thought i'd share my size!!! If it does work, ignore the messy room-was changing the bed!

parkj83 · 18/07/2010 20:44

Wow sassy!

How far long do you think you'll be allowed to carry to?

Debs75 · 18/07/2010 20:48

Wow sassy You are huge. They must be heavy on you now.
Have always wanted to take a pic of me pregnant but it doesn't look right when you are already fat.

Oosabeauta I can think of nothing worse than being stuck in a traffic jam for 2 hours, apart from having to use some caravanners loo. Shame the inlaws weren't more understanding but find me an inlaw that is.

sassy34264 · 18/07/2010 21:26

parkj83 I'm thinking (sarcastically) that, that will all depend on what Doctor i see! There hasn't exactly been a common consensus so far. Going back to the hospital tomorrow that i went to 2 weeks ago, where steroid injections were mentioned -so saving all my energy for that battle- I want to leave it till i'm 38 weeks though.

Debs75 I know what you mean but i think you should just take one anyway. I was overweight when i had dd and have no photos of me pregnant at all and i really regret it now. I've made up for it in this pregnancy as i have loads. :O

mellymooks · 18/07/2010 21:26

Hello lovely ladies - this thread moves so fast it's really hard to keep up, two things that have really helped me with heartburn are eating apples and drinking cider apple vinegar (2 teaspoons in some water down it and it's instant relief).

3 days left at work for me, can't wait!! Our DD has been away to stay with the inlaws this wknd so we have been manically sorting out our house after the huge upheaval of the kitchen build, there is still loads to do but we've made good progress, it's amazing how much more you can get done when there are no little helpers around!!

Also took advantage of a couple of nights on our own to go to the cinema, saw Inception - it is amazing would highly recommend.

Off to bed now so tired........

mellymooks · 18/07/2010 21:28

Oh yeah - 31+3

MammyG · 18/07/2010 23:56

Hi all. Fab time at the wedding. So nice to dress up and head out like normal people.
Park - ya havent been able to give up on the heels out right. Slippers on a lot tho. Will need to plan an occasion to wear the new shoes to after the birth.
Banana - I have the same gripe. During my first pregnancy was 'dumped' by a 'best friend'. She made it obvious by not inviting me to her party then just stopped talking to me. She cant have children and was upset I was pregnant. Which I can only imagine was horrible for her but I dont think I was treated fairly. This time I do feel that a lot of people feel uncomfortable about someone not drinking. Its so strange.
Teeth - Im having the worst time with my gums. Feels like they have receeded. I need to bring floss and toothbrush everywhere.
As for rushing to the loo. I was a bit of a champion pee-er before I ever got pregnant but now its ridiculous. I think there is a direct line from my mouth to my bladder as I need to go 5 mins after drinking. And the baby just thinks its a punch bag. I get kicks at times and I need to go urgently after them. Finding too that it takes 2 to 3 trips to feel like I have emptied.
And chocolate - well have had to face up to it this pregnancy that I have more than a little problem with choc. May even just have to give it up outright. Cant imagine a world with out chocolate. DH starting to get annoyed with me. May have to become a closet eater!!
Its still raining here - lightening this eve and its so humid. Some summer!

comixminx · 19/07/2010 08:06

Good stuff taking a photo Sassy! I have taken some earlier on but am meaning to get DP to take more shortly. Having said that, they're unlikely to be for posting as I expect they'll be without clothes for better bump-viewing... Might take a more general one too that I can show around.
