bananastew My biggest symptom during DD pregnancy was heartburn. It was horrible. Not suffered half as much this time. I find that milk really works for me- although you do sometimes have to drink a lot of it to work.

Jaysfourth · 14/07/2010 21:59

hi all. Just passing through, i never have enough time

Saw MW for 34 week check. All ok, thankfully baby IS facing the right way ( consultant wasnt sure last week ) She also conquered with the consultant that i was measuring 39weeks.....ah well, good job i have only bought 3-6 mths clothes! - scan should shed more light in a few weeks time

hope everyone suffering with heartburn are feeling better.... i suffer with it even when i am not pregnant, but touch wood havnt had it much during this pregnancy. Apparently it can be an indication of the baby having a lot of hair!

bananastew · 15/07/2010 09:56

Jaysforth I had it with ds & he had a good head of hair although it wasn't this bad! DH thinks I must be having a monkey! Got an appt with the dr at 11:10 to see if there's anything he can prescribe!

Debs75 · 15/07/2010 10:15

Skye and Park please stop you are making me mad with jealousy. I havent rode now for 2 and a half years, local school shut down then found out I was pregnant with dc3. I was going to start up again after dc3 was born but the new school we sent dc1 to shut down. finally got her to another school and found out I was pregnant again. It is agony seeing dc1 ride off every week knowing I am not able to ride until at least christmas. Still I get to see the horses and saw a lovely new foal last week.

Sassy Get over to the gd thread and see what they make of your diet, I am always getting it wrong but they say porridge is bad for most of them. Hospitals are awful for providing you with a diabetes diet, they give you easy comfort giving food, usually with a lovely sweet pudding for afters.

Starting to feel really fat and heavy now, struggling to get very far and wanting to sleep most of the time. Have heartburn as well, Gaviscon is great and Dr should prescribe it pretty easily.

parkj83 · 15/07/2010 10:49

Sorry debs I'm making myself jealous too, don't you worry!

It's just so frustrating, as before I met my friend a year ago, I hadn't ridden for over 10, nearly 15 years. I just get myself back in the saddle, and poof, I'm pg! Oh well!

DS wants to get going with riding, but my problem is affording it I want him to do it so much, and I'm gonna do what I can to give it to him, especially over the hols.

On another note, I'm very pleased with myself, cos I've just got back from having my bloods done, and I didn't faint, or get dizzy, or have my veins shut down on me! Yay! There's hope for me yet!

SkaterGrrrrl · 15/07/2010 13:39

Hey September Grrrls

Heartburn: not yet. My feet bloody hurt though! The highlight of my day is putting some Bodyshop peppermint stuff on them and "putting them up" like a granny.

Weeping: Yes, a fair bit! Cried the other day when I saw the cardigan my 85 year old gran knitted for the bump.

Excercise: walking 40 minutes a day - that's it.

Not getting heartburn but am getting some backache. Had a pregnancy massage on Tuesday which was absolute bliss. Am definitely going back in a few weeks time!

cinnamongreyhound · 15/07/2010 14:05

I'm crying a lot too SkaterGrrrrl but I am feeling sorry for myself because of the position of the baby!

I have a birth ball for my antenatal yoga comixminx and it works wonders for lower backache. Doing large circles on while sitting on it and there are stretches you can do over the ball too.

Have a day off tomorrow, yay!! Looking forward to spend the day giving DS my undivided attention and the peace and quiet while he is sleeping and there are no other children in the house!

skyeplusbump · 15/07/2010 14:36

sorry debs we'll stop it know...its making me jealous of my younger self anyway!!

i'm not crying alot...but i am going compleatly mad at dp for...not alot really! poor guy,he puts up with alot!

i had heartburn last time and dd had a full head of black hair...and some on her ears!
(i cryed about this as i thought it might stay forever and she'd be teased!!hormones ehh?!)

banana cant belive he said you were having a monkey as that is EXACTLY what dp said to me last night!!

Stickhasgrownup · 15/07/2010 14:43

I have terrible heartburn and have with every pregnancy so far. I just have gaviscon in my handbag and drink it straight from the bottle! banana - Please let me know if your dr offers a more effective alternative!

I'm meeting a group of local mumsnet mums to be tonight... I hope I can stay awake! Mind you I always seem to feel shattered around this time of day. Will be nice to meet some local preggy mums as finances meant I had to give the nct a miss this time round.

I'm feeling really pregnant the last few days... bump seems to be getting in the way... can't lean forward enough to reach things etc. Also feeling shortness of breath going up stairs etc.
However I think pebble may have turned (hooray) so it may just be his/her big bum getting in the way! I seem to be getting movement up the top of my bump where as it had all been more in the pubic region! Anyway fingers crossed... see MW a week today so won't know for sure until then.

33 weeks

parkj83 · 15/07/2010 15:02

Ooh, I hope so stick!

Fidge seems to be sitting lop-sided, but head down, so I get lots of random movements straight down my middle.

My heartburn only really kicks in if I have something very spicy or oily - pepperoni pizza is permanently off the menu in our house much to DH and DS's disgust! lol

Saying that though, I was in bed last night and as soon as I laid down, wham, it hit me. But my friend had an emergency, and I had to take her out for the evening, so we were consoling ourselves over coffee. Maybe not such a good idea at 11pm...?!

I'm getting the out of breath thing too, but it's annoying as I'm supposed to be playing my flute this weekend, and I'm coming up short all the time! Think I'll have to quietly drop it till after D-Day after this weekend.

parkj83 · 15/07/2010 16:13

I spoke too soon re the heartburn

It's just decided to kick in for the past hour with no reprieve...

sassy34264 · 15/07/2010 16:48

Went for scan today and the 1st thing she said when she got twin 1 on screen, was, look at that hair! DD had a full head of hair when she was born.
Twin 1 is lying with it's head down on my left side and twin 2 is lying transverse from left to right and it's head is under or over twin 1! Both are fine. They didn't say anything about them being especially big, nothing was said about steroid injections and no c section was booked. (all things i was told 2 weeks ago) And the reason being?....I saw a different sonagrapher, a different midwife and a different doctor (all of them new to me) It's getting ridiculous. There is no set procedures or rules for anything as far as i can see, it's all just based on their own personal opinions. If i hadn't of seen that other doctor last week, (just a random different one instead) steroid injections might never have been mentioned. Infact it might never be mentioned again for all i know.
When you read pregnancy books about high risk pregnancies, i have about 5 out of the 8 they usually mention and yet despite all these supposedly extra checks i get in 7 months i have seen my consultant once and no same doctor twice.
Got a ER tv doctor today. Totally good looking, and totally aware of it. Puts me off straight away. Never gonna be the sort to massage an inflatable ego. He walked in and said, babies look fine so everything's ok with the pregnancy then? Think if i would have said 'yes everythings fine' he would have said 'great, you can go'. It was 12.10pm think i was taken up his lunchtime. Said well i have GD and i was in hospital sun-mon, i had some bloods taken and haven't had the results. He said oh right i'll just look them up! Then he complained there was too much writing to do in notes, cos he had to write the blood results down. I said, well i don't know why anyone bothers anyway cos you just get asked the same questions. (Case in point-Neither the sonographer, the doctor or the MW where aware i have GD until i told them and it's written in my notes)I also said about the different decisions being made based on individual doctors. He muttered something like 'i try my best'. Decided next appointment that if i don't see my consultant i'm not staying.

Sorry rant over.

parkj83 · 15/07/2010 17:26

sassy rant away

That's so annoying! You're def at a time when you need some level of consistancy, so def push for it xx

I get distressed if I see a different m/w or nurse at my surgery, let alone at hospital.

bananastew · 15/07/2010 18:48

Sassy oooh! to the ER doctor! mine are always minging!

No joy with an alternative remedie I'm afraid. He just said it was because the baby is pushing everything up! All he offered was to increase the gaviscon to 15mls! I actually laughed out loud! I'm swigging from the bottle like an alcoholic! I'm probably taking 25mls at a time! Its been slightly better today but still bad!

I also now have the joy of a blood test in the morning cos I have glucose in my urine!

I'm also feeling really pregnant! I can't remember what it feels like to be able to sit up from lying, reach my feet & walk & talk at the same time! I'm slowly getting fed up. Ds was 9 days early so I've convinced this one will be too! He'd better be otherwise I'll be really mad!

Got an exciting night of name picking now. I'm going to pin DH down and make him have an opinion. Its like trying to get blood out of a stone!

skyeplusbump · 15/07/2010 19:55

i said to dp today that 'i feel really pregnant now' and he looked at me like i was mental!
im getting a bit fed up now too..and im going camping tomorow, with 2year old dd! ahhhhhhh

dd was 7 days early...this one had better be to...or else!

MammyG · 15/07/2010 21:39

Good Lord only missed a couple of days and there is so much catching up to do!
Im in Ireland and it is still torrential here. Envying ye the sun.
Sassy - thats so frustrating. I have had war here on different levels and just feel like I have had to educate myself so much and fight for every little thing.
Banana - I gave up caffeine and it def helped.
My last set of bloods said I was anaemic. More iron - yuk! Seeing doctor on tue. Will start the birth battle then. I had an awful experience with DS2 and have no choice but to attend same hospital so will be stomping and demanding this time round.
Spent wed in Ikea. Had to stay over night half way there as its other side of country. Lovely cousin minded the boys so shopped in piece with DH. It was exhausting but pretty sorted now. Only odd ends to do so will organise in august.
Bought two lovely pairs of shoes for me on the way back. One pair way to high to wear pregnant but so sexy! Other pair lovely and really comfy as am off to wedding tomorrow. Sitting here all faked tanned and all, really looking forward to the day. Hope my energy stays with me.

parkj83 · 15/07/2010 21:51

Hi Mammy

We've lost the sun now, I think your torrential rain has decided to visit me!

Ooh, I'm envying you the shoes though! The last pair I bought were some trainer-style flip-flops which I've pretty much lived in since about 16 weeks. I'm getting withdrawal symptoms from not wearing my heels - I feel so short and frumpy!

Saying that though, I did wear heels out for one night (my dad's birthday) and I did myself an injury with my SPD... I was bed-bound for the next two days, so maybe I'm not going to grumble too loudly on that one!

Debs75 · 15/07/2010 22:14

Skye I have had heartburn now in 3 of my pregnancies, the only thing that works is gaviscon and eating smaller meals. I can't touch chocolate, as soon as I swallow it I get heartburn.
DC3 also had hairy ears, I swear there was more on her ears then her head.

Sassy It is furiating when you go week after week and see a different dr each time. With my first 2 babies I didn't see my named consultant at all. With the 3rd I only saw my consultant when I refused to stay in and be induced. with this one i have seen 4 different drs. I tend to tajke on board the good news and argue with the scaremongerers.

we went out for a meal tonight and baby was in the way. I feel so stuffed and ready to pop. was nice though

skyeplusbump · 15/07/2010 23:06

the rain is decending here to...why oh why...camping/wedding tomorrow...

debs so good to hear someone else had a hairy eared girl!!

my midwife has been told she has to go back to big local hospital,so will not be my midwife anymore...i only see midwifes here,no doctors unless somethings wrong...so new person to convince im not compleatley mental when i turn up with no notes or pee sample yet again!!

JodeyLea · 16/07/2010 14:33

I think the heartburn is trying to kick in!! Hadn't had any until yesterday. It happened whilst I was driving and only lasted about 3 minutes or so! Felt like a fire ball was slowly creeping up into the back of my throat and then it just went! It tried to creep up again today after eating a chocolate digestive! Someone mentioned chocolate being a food that triggers heartburn! I wonder why that is???

I also drink a huge amount of milk everyday (totally addicted to ice cold, nice cold), so I wonder if that has kept the heartburn at bay. I'm carrying quite low (so I'm told) so I think that probably prevents it, maybe??

30 weeks today, yay! I'm so happy and excited! Can't wait to meet the baba. Oh, and my moses basket arrived yesterday so couldn't resist setting it all up.

Went to an aqua natal class for the first time yesterday! It was recommended to me my my mw. So I turned up, got changed, went into the small pool only to find no-one there. Waited ten minutes before a life guard allowed me to go in the pool and have a swim whilst they tried to contact the midwife, then 20 minutes later, after swimming length after length with 2 young life guard watching me (very awkward) I was told that the classes had now been canceled until September! No bloody good for me! Was so annoyed about the lack of communication and knowledge!
Such a shame as was really looking forward to the class and meeting some other pg ladies in my area. Boo!

parkj83 · 16/07/2010 14:51

oh that is annoying jodea

I'm tempted by the aquanatals by me, but I can't realistically afford it for at least a month.

cinnamongreyhound · 16/07/2010 17:35

My baby is all up high and I have had horrendous heart burn. Unfortunately I think chocolate is a trigger, anything too sweet and anything fatty gives me hurt burn for the rest of the day, even when I get hungry and eat something else it doesn't shift. Learning your triggers definately helps!

At least you got a swim JodeyLea I'm thinking of going more regularly as it seems to get my baby in a much lower position and I love swimming, but by the end of a 10 1/2 hour day and cooking tea I can't be bothered to go out again! My husband has to push me out for my antenatal yoga class each week.

DS was hairy all over his face as well as ears when he was born but didn't take long to go, wasn't worried though- one of the few things I didn't worry about!

PickleSarnie · 16/07/2010 20:26

Chocolate a trigger for heartburn?! nooooooo!! I'm in denial about that one. I reckon milk is good, chocolate has milk - better than gaviscon!

parkj83 · 16/07/2010 21:01

I can't eat chocolate, not because it gives me heartburn, but because it gives me toothache...

I have sensitive teeth at the best of times, and choc is one of the worst triggers for it along with cold. But for the past 1.5 months, my teeth have gone into overdrive, and anything and everything sets them off; hot, cold, sweet, savoury, soft, crunchy. Whatever!

It takes me ages to eat or drink anything apart from soup, which I have to allow to cool to room-temp
