cinnamon thats so sweet, I love every new word from DS also but agree there are special words that make you melt.

Its raining today here, but very humid, Ive still needed to have fan on.

Have to say re: list I didn´t end up using all the things on it, was just what previous MW advised me. Also as have to go private here, no homebirth on NHS , so guess what is in kit will be very different.

Park The bed protector will be fine, I guess as long as it covers area of where your bum lies. I lost a lot of blood on the first night and was really glad for bed protector. The other most useful thing was a dark blue winter blanket, I managed to stain the rug underneath but can´t see any
stains on the blanket!

Off shopping tommorrow, loads of sales on so hoping to pick up some baby bargins.

sassy34264 · 13/07/2010 20:08

I can't relate to all your talk about home births! I'm having the most medicalised intervention birth available. Groan.
Spent 24 hours in hospital already from sunday afternoon till monday afternoon.
Had a 'hypo' incident on sunday (blood sugar drops too low) ate lots of sugar (too much i think) and went 'hyper' and then started plummeting again. I told them i hadn't had any lunch but they spent that long monitoring babies (which i am grateful for) that they didn't remember to give me anything to eat!!! So went from breakfast, to 4pm with nothing but the sugary things i'd eaten to try to stop hypo. Doh.
Anyway, i'm having to have a c-section and i'm also now being monitored for blood sugar levels during the birth and depending on what they are will depend on what intervention i get. I jokingly said 'there's nothing like a natural birth is there?' but the Doc didn't find it amusing. (hmm)
skyplus bump I would struggle walking around IKEA too. Can't stand up for too long. I'm seriously losing my breath all the time too. Going upstairs and talking or trying to talk as soon as i get to the top is nigh on impossible, i have to sit down and shut up. Less than 9 months ago, i could run a half marathon.

cinnamongreyhound · 14/07/2010 08:30

Sassy34264 at least you could run a half marathon before you got pregnant!! You will get back to it and you will have 2 beautiful babies to go with it. Hoping that you have the least intervention possible. Doctors don't seem to have a sense of humour, but you are trying to.

I was getting more upset when I had my scan and consultation last week and my husband said the consultant was looking more worried that I would cry. Hubby was very proud of me for not crying but I blubbed as soon as I got out. Trying to feel more positive as it's not the end of the world but I think you are doing really well under circumstances!

sassy34264 · 14/07/2010 09:54

Thanks cinnamon I don't know how you managed not to cry if you felt like doing. I'm a leaky bag at the moment! I burst out crying everytime i'm told another bloody negative thing. I'm also trying to think positive.....well i think one person should, when all around is negative.

  1. They may be born early,
  2. i might not know what's hit me,
  3. i may not be able to breastfeed them both (examples of things i'm hearing)
but
  1. i'm not working,
2.i'm bloody 36 in Oct not 18,
  1. I carried dd till 42 weeks at 9lb 12oz and
  2. bar my nipples falling off, or lack of milk- they WILL be breastfed!
Or to summarise.....feck off!!!! hehehehe
parkj83 · 14/07/2010 10:00

patito I have more than one (about 10 I think) so I can over-lap them as needed.

note to self - put very old sheets on the bed too!

I'm hoping to keep most of the mess confined to the bath/bathroom, but not sure how successful I'll be!

Blimey sassy I wish I could even contemplate a quarter marathon at any point in time!

DH is quite superior about his fitness, and regrets not keeping up any kind of sport for the past 5 years. He's keen on getting back into shape, and he goes out jogging with our Dalmatian in tow (actually, atm it's him in tow and the Dal leading! ) but he graciously said that once everything was settled with DC2, I could join him on my bike

parkj83 · 14/07/2010 10:03

That's the spirit sassy

I'm actually quite pleased at the amount of confrontations I've dealt with over the past few weeks and not been reduced to a blubbering wreck (films is a different matter, don't go there!!)

Debs75 · 14/07/2010 11:19

Sassy sorry you had such a bad time with the hypo. I have been near one and luckily I knew the signs, headache, dizziness, sweating and feeling really out of it, so I could stop it in it's tracks.
Have they put you on tablets or insulin?
Don't let the negative comments put you off. Like you say these are babies 3 and 4 you are not going into it blind. If you think negative then nothing will go right. Politely tell them to F* Off.

Had another growth scan and baby is doing well on the 50% line. If all stays well I will be able to go full term. Blood sugars are creeping a bit so am trying hard to be really good.
can now start organising everything. We need
new pram matresses
a crib
nappies back from friend
new nappy wraps
clothes back from friend
a car seat
birthday prezzies for dc3

And we have to get it all done realistically before the summer holidays.

sassy34264 · 14/07/2010 11:44

debs75 Thanks. I had shakes, feeling weak like i might collapse and the sweating. Was covered and i'd just come out the shower-not a hot one before any one asks! A bit of a sore point that, as one doctor tried to tell me that i didn't have an hypo, my blood pressure just dropped cos of the hot shower!!!! Thought- that's funny cos they took my blood pressure as soon as i got to the hospital and it was actually higher than normal. Luckily the 1st doc i saw was the most competent (in my opinion) and the only one to ask for blood sugars and she could see it was going haywire.
No not on any meds. Still not had the nutritionalist ring up yet......2 weeks after being diagnosed. They think cos i'm an athlete (in the loose sense of the word, ie, i ((used to)) train 6 days a week and compete in competitions) and follow a specific healthy diet that i know what i'm doing- but i don't. I snack all the time on fruit and drink fruit juices and eat loads of dried fruit and i've been told this isn't good. Well actually the sum total of my information so far as been 'it's common sense really' 'everything in moderation is ok' and 'it's not what you eat it's all in the timing' So apparently i can eat a bar of chocolate then, just have to make sure i don't eat before i test my blood sugars?!!!
Too be truthful my blood sugars are mostly within the range. Every few days i might get one that's not but that's usually cos i've eaten or drunk something sugary. It's so good usually though that it's making me wonder what is making the babies so bloody large then!!!!!!

I've been sorting out all the clothes i've been given. OMG. I've had to put it in different piles, cos i have so many different sizes- early baby-tiny baby- newborn, and 0-3 months. Alot of it is neutral, but the 3 people who have given me the stuff have all had boys!!!! So there is a considerable amount of blue. If there is a girl in here; someone will have to run to Tesco for something a bit more feminine!

skyeplusbump · 14/07/2010 12:30

Hi sassy sorry for my utter ignorence...what is hypo?!
and my god...ive never been able to run a half marathon...i dont think id get of the starting line!!!
but i could do a 3 day event ride...about 5 yrs ago...

just had delivered the most amazing merino wool swaddling blanket.it's sooo soft!
all i have left to get now is a baby bath support and an incredably expencive double buggy...eeek

the rest just needs cleaning up, had it out of the loft in the way (to remind me) for about a month, why oh why havent i done it yet?!

Debs75 · 14/07/2010 12:58

Skye A hypo is where your blood sugar level goes too low, below 3'5 usually. It is a bit like the feeling you can get after a rush of exercise on top of not eating for seveeral hours, only worse..

Sassy Lay off the fruit juice and dried fruit if you can. With dried fruit it is ok if you are having say 10 raisins as a portion of grapes would be 10 but if you are eating them and going by weight or volume you will get too much sugar. Berries are good as they have almost no carb.
when you were training were you eating a lot of carbs as that is another no-no so no mash or jacket potatoes, no white pasta or rice, try wholemeal. Bread is out unless you can do the ones filled with bits, Burgen soya and linseed is good. Breakfast cereal as well is very carby.
It is pretty hard getting it right but you should of been seen on diagnosis to discuss your current diet so they could point out anything that needs changing. Hope you get some help soon.

skyeplusbump · 14/07/2010 13:03

thankyou, sounds awfull... ((hugs))

sassy34264 · 14/07/2010 14:41

debs I told the diabetic nurse that i make my own porridge. (porridge oats, milk, honey, raisins and sultanas) and she said that's fine?! I don't eat bread or anything bread related because i am wheat intolerant. I don't tend to buy the wheat free bread either, but funnily enough they gave me it for my breakfast in hospital on Monday - that was before giving me cereal. Perhaps instead of telling them i was wheat intolerant ; i should have told them i need a diabetic diet! I didn't think i'd need to, considering that's what i was in for!

skye What 3 day event was that?

skyeplusbump · 14/07/2010 15:05

just local ones,im not affiliated or anything...one was at a place called lark hill.
why,do you ride?!

bloddy hospital food. you'd think they'd know better!

Bessie123 · 14/07/2010 15:39

sassy would agave nectar be better in your porridge? It's low GI, does that make a difference?

sassy34264 · 14/07/2010 16:07

skye Yes i ride. I do triathlons firstly and then throughout the year i compete in bike sportives, (the struggle, manchester to blackpool) swimming events (the great north swim) and running (10km, half marathons)etc. Want to do hell up north and the 3 day cyprus run. Stuff like that. Planning on competing in a race across New Zealand in 2 and a half years time with friends, but will have to see if someone will have babies and dd first!!!!

bessie123 Never heard of it. Is it sweet, ie, nice? Might be better to just have eggs instead. Had them every day for about 15 weeks though at the beginning cos babies would not tolerate anything sweet at all (so no porridge), so kind of gone off them. Pity they won't tolerate anything sweet now! I'm very very big on chocolate. Cos of all the training i used to do, i probably on average ate a box of chocolates a week!!!! But in my (very poor) defence, cos of my wheat intolerance i don't eat any biscuits or cakes and not many crisps.

Bessie123 · 14/07/2010 16:21

agave nectar is v sweet and much nicer than honey. I think it has fructose in it, which makes it better for blood sugar (please note, I don't actually know anything about medical stuff)

skyeplusbump · 14/07/2010 16:23

sassy
i meant horse riding...but you sound like the most incredably active person EVER!! your body must be so well prepared for carrying babies!

i do cycle quite alot, but more like trips to the shops than 3day marathons!!

oh my god you have totally put me to shame!

parkj83 · 14/07/2010 17:13

skye I used to ride a bit here and there, but nothing competitive - my friend has 6 hunters she needed help with, so I was quite happy schlepping around on one of her older geldings

Miss it like mad though! They'll be on the verge of coming in from their break, and I usually help out with bringing them back into fitness.

Don't think I'll be helping out for quite a bit yet!!

skyeplusbump · 14/07/2010 18:42

WOW 6 hunters!
how does she find the time!
i found two hard enough! ive worked on polo yards where there are loads, but ive never owned more than two at at time!
i know, it's driving me crazy...i just want a little hack or something...but it doesnt look great does it?!!
i get weird enough looks on my bike!

bananastew · 14/07/2010 19:14

Sorry to here some of you have been having a rough time! I'm not diabetic or anything as bad as that but I'm having real problems with heartburn! Its been so bad today that I've felt sick! Usually gaviscon sorts it out straight away but its not touching it this time. Does anyone have any other sure fire remedies! I'm so fed up with it!

parkj83 · 14/07/2010 19:31

Skye well, 2 of them are there on livery basis, but she has to care for them and exercise them, 1 is her husband's, and the other 3 get rotated depending on health.

The older gelding isn't always sound in his feet, so he's sketchy, but good to hack still. The younger gelding she's schooling in dressage as well as hunting (he's good fun, really cheeky!) and then her mare she uses as and when really.

Plus she has 2 youngsters she's bringing on too (both are consecutive foals from her husband's mare) Oh it's all good fun!

She has a regular stream of volunteers who help out in return for rides plus one paid part-time groom, as both she and her husband actually run a fully working dairy farm! Don't ask me where she finds the time to ride them let alone anything else!

banana I can sympathise with the heartburn! I don't get it often, but when I get it, cor blimey! I find I have to stop eating after a certain time (8-8.30) otherwise it's really bad at night. Also, I'm avoiding fatty or processed foods. Doesn't leave me much to munch on in our house at the moment, as haven't been shopping in over a month!

Have you tried any tablets, such as Bisodol? That's what I usually use.

skyeplusbump · 14/07/2010 20:21

banana eating little and often is about all i have to offer! but i have it ALL the time!i cant bend down without it rearing its ugly head!!

park wow what is it with farmers...i swear they're super human!i kept my horses on a dairy farm, and im from a farming family (grandparents and cousins)
and theyre all the same!

(my cousin has twins AND runs a dairy farm!! impossible im my opinion!)

bananastew · 14/07/2010 20:21

Can you use then when you're pregnant? I thought you could only use gaviscon!

parkj83 · 14/07/2010 20:48

Er, it hasn't stopped me! I thought they were much the same thing!

I don't eat packets at a time, one is usually plenty to settle it all down again. I hate the taste of the heartburn liquids, so the tabs are a life-saver. Plus they're easy to just pop in your handbag too.

parkj83 · 14/07/2010 20:52

skye I know! There's another lady I know who has 2 horses plus room for 1.5 more (thinking about a pony for DS...) and she's retired but runs a small-holding.

I suppose it saves on the whole hay issue, cos you grow your own on the whole. But yeah, the timing!

I'd love to have a horse of my own, and I was planning for one this year, but Fidge put paid to that one! Oh well. Maybe 10 years time... sigh
