And don't forget the stats thread

Miffster My bump is doing similar things.

emmaxmas Must have been scary. I hope you're ok and that the people on the tube felt guilty for not offering you a seat to begin with!

Workwise I've just started out as a self-employed environmental consultant. A friend of mine has recently won a contract for the next year helping manufacturing businesses in the Southwest reduce carbon footprints and asked me to help as he lives in the Midlands. It's perfect really as he knows I'm pregnant and says I can work as much or as little as I feel able to. Well paid too. Hopefully I'll be able to get more similar work after the contract ends too.

CherylAnnTweedy · 16/07/2010 13:57

emma - I know how you feel, that's exactly the same way it happened to me last week at the nursery. It certainly shook me up for the rest of the day, it's scary isn't it (it was bad enough being somewhere familiar with familiar people, let alone being on the tube). Fortunately everything was fine with me and dr gave us another listen to the heartbeat.

It's not fair , there's no Blooming Marvellous down here. I had a bit from them last pregnancy. Maybe I'll see what they've got online.

Re working. My plan had always been to work, I had all kinds of plans of good jobs that I loved, I was at college when I fell pg with ds1 and planned on finishing it after a year out then working, but it didn't work out that way. I did go back to college and finished my HND, but I couldn't bear the thought of going out to work full time, so I've spent the years since working in jobs I get bored of after 6months. I'd love to go back to uni and get some new qualifications and do what I've always wanted to do, but still the thought of working odd hours and long hours doesn't appeal to me. I never envisaged myself as a SAHM, but I love it and as much as I'd love a job that challenges me and is different every day and keeps me on my toes (plus earns enough money to buy a house etc) I'd rather be at home with the children. Hats off to everyone of you who can do it, I wish I could.

Strix · 16/07/2010 13:57

emmaxmas, that sounds scary. But, I think it's fairly common in pregnancy. It happens because that selfish baby takes the blood, there is not quite enough to around, and so not enough gets to your head and you pass out. Keeping yourself hydrated helps. Also make sure you are getting enough iron so your body can make more red blood cells.

In a way it was probably a good thing that it was a crowded tube beacause you probably hit soft bodies on the way down rather than crashing into the hard floor, which could have landed you with a good head injury.

I passed out once after giving blood at university and had a similar experience in chemistry lab. Oh that was fun. At least you didn't know these people.

Hope all goes well at the doctor.

LittleB · 16/07/2010 14:43

Emma, i had that last pg, felt dizzy several times, had really low blood pressure, 80/50 at its lowest, but I just had to make sure I drank lots and snacked regularly and that helped alot. Not so low this pg thank goodness!
With dd (5)I originally went back to work 3 days per week, but since April have had my hours increased to 4 days per week, but I'm finding it really hard to keep on top of everything (although being on mumsnet prob doesn't help, but I need to put my feet up a bit on my day off).
With this one I'd like to go back 3 days per week but may average my hours to do 3 one week, and 4 the next, will have to see what work say.
I'm also the higher earner, although thats not saying much (still haven't started paying my student loan back -mid-90's loan, so still earning well under nat. average wage even if I was FT), but I currently earn in 30hrs same as dh earns in 45hrs. If they'd let dh work a 4 day week he would, we'd do 4 days each then.
And I know what you mean about things getting busier when they are at school! Although childcare is easier, its just getting away for sports days etc, keeping on top of reading practice, having friends over etc thats such a juggle. Still can't wiat to have another though!

PJen · 16/07/2010 15:02

emma I read that some mothers in this period can black out! Can be dangerous if you hit your head somewhere... ouch!

I will defo go back to work... I have always been a career girl and can't imagine life without working or studying. My question is when? I can take 12 months and my boss is encouraging me to take the whole as he thinks I will change my mind. I think I want to take 7-9 months off and then go back to work 2-3 days a week and have a transition period and then go full time after 13-14 months or so. I think 2-3 days is not much and I will still have 4 days of the week at home with the baby.

My niece is visiting and she hinted that she wants to become my oper... Not sure as our flat is too small for someone else to stay here full time.. I love her though and she is so smart and bright and would make a perfect oper! Besides, she is my own family and won't harm the child or anything. She would take a course if I say yes... We just moved and I wish now that we had taken a 3 bdrm flat instead of a 2 bdrm one!

Asos has massive sales too. I bought bunch of maternity stuff (6 beautiful items) and paid 50 quid total. They just arrived...

Wknd approaching

OnlyWantsOne · 16/07/2010 15:21

Pfffffft tiredy today

packing things for the house move - move in 2 weeks, so busy between now and then too...

I feel very dizzy and have moments when I think I will faint emma my BP is fairly low, about 100 / 60 most of the time, so I think that's some thing to do with it.

Boiled egg any one? munch munch munch

GreenGeekGirl · 16/07/2010 16:24

CherylAnnTweedy Have you thought about studying with the Open University? I'm doing an MSc with them at the moment and it's brilliant! You can fit your studies around whatever else you do and because they send you all the course materials you don't need to buy loads of expensive books or spend your life in a library. It's actually a bit addictive I find - there are so many interesting courses to choose from.

OWO Don't mind if I do scoff I'm moving in two weeks too but as I'm living with the PILs at the moment I can't wait!

notso · 16/07/2010 17:40

Alright my loves!

Haven't been on for ages, been really busy at work and therefore knackered, but finished today until the baby starts school! Was sad because the nursery actually shut for good today and we all went our separate ways everyone gave me a lovely card with a nice chunk of cash to but something baby-related.

Had my 16 week appointment and eventually heard the heartbeat, the doppler was so low down that I thought she was going to listen internally! Waiting for the results from my triple blood test, the midwife said if I haven't heard in 7 days then I am low risk, however have made my mind up that I am having this baby whatever the results.

Counting down to 20 week scan on 4th August
then I will start to buy properly though the Next sale will be calling on Saturday.

Nice to hear of good scans and congrats to those who know the sex, exciting. We will definately not be finding out, though DD is desparate to know.

Lavitabella · 16/07/2010 18:39

Blooming Marvellous had pretty much sold out of everything online so I got a train to Wandsworth, they are closing down due to be bought out by Mothercare. All the stuff in the shop was even cheaper than the online prices. I bought 2 pair of nice black work trousers reduced from £30 to £3.

Not much left at all literally 4 racks left and all bare shelves ! I bought everything I tried on which included 2 dresses, 2 tops, 1 skirt, 3 pairs of trousers & a swimming costume - total price £69.20! can you believe it

All the baby stuff had sold out but the lady said they were the first shop to shut, and advised going to Marlow, Bucks (nearish to Henley on Thames) as they still had a lot of stock. Its a 45 min drive for me, but I'm working at the weekend so probably won't go. They only have 5 shops in total but definitely worth a visit, even if you just e bay it on.

Could someone organised like Strix do a new thread? I am a bit computer illiterate and this thread hasn't got much space left.

jobobpip08 · 16/07/2010 19:03

Greengeek girl your new house sounds gorgeous!

I opted to leave work and become a SAHM and as it happened we had so much going on with moving houses and family illnesses that it was a good thing. I had thought I could do part-time term-time work when DS1 was at school, however those kind of jobs don't exist here anymore, neither do a few days a week unless you've been with the company for decades. So we're going to try and manage until this one gets to nursery and then I'll have to look at permanent part-time .

Been onto Blooming Marvellous online and got some baby bargains (not in the UK so no chance to go shopping for real).

mumatron · 16/07/2010 19:37

hi all, not been on for a few days. good to see all the happy posts, lots of good news and heart beats being heard.

i was planning on sending my doppler back after the next scan but i think i might be addicted to it

anyone else still being sick? i am every morning. i wasn't sick this much before 12 weeks. thought it was supposed to get better?!

wrt to work, i will be going back. i'm already part time but i'm hoping to go back less hours. 9 months off, possibly stretching to a year if poss.

maxpower · 16/07/2010 21:33

emmaxmas · 16/07/2010 23:03

Thanks for all your support re: fainting. Went to the Dr's this afternoon and was very relived to hear baby's heartbeat again- all fine My blood pressure was normal but Dr said it's at the low end of normal. She advised me to demand a seat on public transport! Will definately be doing that in the future. Have a nice weekend everyone!
