Balijay, call your community midwife she will advise you and may listen with the Doppler, I am rhesus neg so need to go in to get an anti d injection every time I bleed

balijay · 07/06/2010 20:52

Thanks Babybean and clueless . Will call the midwife tomorrow if it hasn't stopped. Have my 16 week appt on Thurs so really hoping she will have a listen to the heartbeat and put my mind at rest. This is my second bout of bleeding and I find it rather stressful! x

smokeybacon · 07/06/2010 21:03

balijay if its just brown, thats a good sign I think. I hope it gets no worse for you, and am not surprised you find it stressful.

clueless I'm rhesus neg too. Those anti d injections really hurt, don't they?? It was worse than my cvs! Glad to hear your scan went well.

lizzombie first appointment at 28 weeks? Seriously? Is that normal in your area?

Is anyone "blooming" yet?? At 15 weeks, I think I am supposed to be but am still dog tired all the farking time. I can nod off at any point given half a chance during the day.

emu82 · 07/06/2010 21:45

bailijay I would second babybean1, try to stay positive and call midwife for advice and reasurance. It may be hormones or one of those mysteries but it doesnt make it any easier and its scary all the same. Hope that it settles for you and you don't experience it again.

cluelessnchaos · 07/06/2010 21:57

Smokybacon I hate the bloody injections, they sting like hell, balijay I am sure that everything is fine and you just need some reassuring.

bunnygirl80 · 08/06/2010 00:43

balijay sorry to hear about your FIL. I hope you get some good advice from your midwife re the bleeding.

clueless glad your scan went well. It sounds like your midwife was lovely and very reassuring.

smokey I am very surprised but I do seem to be blooming. I've got so much energy at the moment, sickness has gone, and my skin is clearing up. People keep telling me I'm looking really well, although this could be because I looked like utter shit for the first 12 weeks so anything is good in comparison I'm trying to enjoy it while it lasts as I'm sure I will go back to being tired etc in a few weeks.

I had my 16 week appointment yesterday. My obs didn't bother listening for the heartbeat with the doppler - she just did a scan!! So I got an unexpected look at baby DH was a bit upset as he only wants to come to appointments where we will get to see the baby, and I was convinced there would be no scanning this time, so I had told him not to come.

Pidgin · 08/06/2010 07:41

Sorry to hear about the bleeding balijay - I had brown discharge for a couple of weeks earlier on in the pg, which turned out to be fine, and the doc who saw me twice then said it's very common, including later in pg. Hope you are able to get some reassurance.

Glad to hear the scan went well clueless. Bunny lovely to see the baby unexpectedly! I have the same theory about blooming - people keep telling me I look well too, but I think 'you are blooming' is a euphemism for 'you have looked truly awful for two months and I have forgotten what you used to look like'. I am also feeling much more energetic than earlier in the pg, and managing to get through the day without a long nap, which is a relief.

We have our 20-week scan in a couple of weeks - I think we've decided that we will find out the sex. What are other people doing?

Hope it's not raining everywhere this morning as badly as it is here!

CardiCorgi · 08/06/2010 08:19

Blooming? Ho ho. I've had time to put a bit of make-up on, if that's what you mean

Bump has suddenly appeared; within a week it's gone from slightly podgy to looking like there might be a baby in there. Is anyone else finding it a bit hard to come to terms with loosing their waistline? Especially as there seems to be a nice layer of blubber over the whole bump.

tiany and hmmsleep I haven't felt any movements either. The placenta is anterior so I think it is acting as a cushion, either that or I have the world's laziest baby.

Bunnygirl80 I felt like a fraud at antinatal yoga too.

Summer has finally come to Germany, so DH and I got our bikes out on Saturday. I don't think that a racing bike is going to comfortable for that much longer. I did realise that I need to drink a lot more than usual and also have a lot more loo stops. Anyone else still doing any sports?

Lizzzombie · 08/06/2010 08:19

Dr has diagnosed SPD. Given me a prescription for painkillers, but I can't take any anti inflamatories as I am pregnant.
He is willing to sign me off work if it gets worse though! may wait till August & more sunshine around!

smokeybacon I know I was so surprised at 28 weeks for my 1st appointment. I've had the booking appointment but the next one is when I am 28 weeks. I'm slightly worried about it. Its because its my 2nd pregnancy apparently.
When are other peoples' first appointments (for their 2nd or 3rd pregnancy) in other areas? (I am in East Sussex)

bunnygirl80 · 08/06/2010 08:38

cardi I was playing netball until about 2 weeks ago, but have had to give up as I was getting lots of backache after each game. So far I've replaced it with yoga, which isn't exactly the same level of intensity. My local gym offers antenatal aerobics so might give that a go for a bit more of a work out.

cluelessnchaos · 08/06/2010 09:07

lizzzombie, I am on 4th pregnancy but the appointments set up for me(not including consultant or hospital admissions were) 12 weeks, 16 weeks, 20 weeks at hosp antenatal clinic, 24 weeks, 28 weeks, 34, 36, 38, 41. I have had more than this because of complications, i think they are assuming in your area that 2nd time mums will be better at judging when they need to be seen, are you booked in for gp appointments in the meantime, I had this with my 2nd pregnancy

comtessa · 08/06/2010 09:32

Haha Pidgin! I think you're right about the whole "wow you're not looking terrible like you have done for the past six months!

Hello all, I can report that Debenhams have a lovely range of not-too-pricey bras for the fuller-figured ladies - of which I've now become. Have swapped my modest 34Cs for a pair of 38DD/38E! Assistant was very helpful, she said that Debenhams only advise non-underwired during pregnancy, but I was firm and said I'd done my research, and she was brilliant, finding me some very pretty bras. She also recommended that I put bra on tightest fitting - as opposed to usual advice to use loosest hooks - to allow room for expansion. Would defo go there again, especially as bras were only £16 each.

CardiCorgi I know what you mean about changing shape, my waistline is just about there, but it is very high naturally. I'm just starting to look pregnant, but feeling bit flumpy still. Was explaining to DH that I felt very unattractive right now. His response: "But your boobs are massive!". Oh bless. ) xxx

umf · 08/06/2010 09:43

Hello everyone (especially new people)! Glad to hear lots of good test and scan news in the last week.

Feeling quite a lot better (16 weeks). Still sick sometimes but more energy, not the horrible semi-depressed thing I get in the 1st trim.

2nd pg, have appts at 8, 12, 16, 28 weeks. Dunno beyond that. So much more relaxed this time that forgot to arrange the 16 week one so it will be a bit late.

Last week managed pilates and 2 swims, which is first exercise this pg. Also 9km walk when we were camping. Quite pleased; hope to keep much more active this time.

Last pg did no exercise at all after highly embarrasing incident involving forgotten towel and mad naked pg lady drying self under hand-dryers at Swiss Cottage swimming pool.

Nasty, getting spd this early Lizzz. I had it last time but didn't know what it was (midwives, useless anyway, were so busy that I didn't see them after 30 weeks, just gp for bp). Apparently physio and other things can help - there are some useful threads on the preg talkboard.

umf · 08/06/2010 09:44

comtessa hah! they are simple creatures.

hmmSleep · 08/06/2010 11:34

Ooh, hope you're not too uncomfortable Lizzzombie. I'm on baby number 3 and my appointments go: 12 wks (booking), 16, 20 (with scan), 28, 34, then fortnightly until birth.

CardiCorgi, I also have an anterior placenta, so lets put lack of movement down to that!

Oops, just realised time, need to go collect dd from pre-school! Hope everyone else is well.

b00kw0rm · 08/06/2010 11:50

Hi all,

clueless- great news about the scan and balijay- hope discharge has settled down now?
Lizzzombie- I assumed that I'd have less appointments this time around (DC2), but MW told me on booking-in that the policy in the area is to have as many as first time around, which is a bit too many if you ask me! But I suppose would be nice support if I was suffering with SPD though...
I've definitely been feeling more movement over the past week (18+4 now) and DH has even felt a couple of big kicks in the past few days- especially last night when I cycled home from the pub really fast because it was pissing down with rain, baby was going mental when I finally sat down to catch my breath! Think it's just not used to that level of exertion
I'm also desperate for maternity/maturity bras as I seem to have suddenly sprouted, but am SO busy with work, so I'll try and get some when my sis is visiting later in the week. Good tip about Debenhams too comtessa, so may well try there.
Got to get back to work and stop procrastinating!

CardiCorgi · 08/06/2010 12:04

comtessa yes, my dh tells me that the bump is cute, but his eyes are actually focussed somewhat higher up. Have now reached the heady heights of the C-cup, so strangely enough I have more choice than before.

umf in Germany nobody would care. There are always loads of women swimming topless at our local outdoor pool and they have a separate fenced off pool for those who wish to swim bottomless too.

Am I allowed to whinge? Just having a crap day - my brain clearly froze up sometime two weeks ago and one of my colleagues has brought back a file of mine that I did then. I've made every mistake going and just feel crap about it, no idea how I could have sent something that sloppy out . It's made worse by this being a really nitpicky colleague who seems to delight in telling others of their mistakes, normally I try not to give him the scope to.
Have also realised that this is the last day I will be able to wear the dress I have on this summer - by the time it's been washed and ironed I will really not fit into it. Am not inspired by maternity wear at all and I really feel as though I am being stretched from the inside.

Lizzzombie · 08/06/2010 16:28

I am a bra fitter for Mothercare (previously Bravissimo) so if any one has any bra questions don't hesitate to ask! Its an obsession of mine. I am currently around a 32J...which terrifies me. I went up to a 34K !!!! when I was BFing DS1. (from a 32FF) Oh to have small boobs again.

I wear underwired bras and non wired. As long as you are wearing the RIGHT SIZE bra it doesn't matter if you wear underwires. The problems can occur when you wear wired bras in the wrong size.
One young girl I fitted once had mastitis at week 20 or so of her pregnancy. She was wearing a 38C but I fitted her up as a 34F. Very scarey. Her GP apparently didn't even know you could get mastitis when you were not feeding.

balijay · 08/06/2010 17:35

Afternoon, hope everyone is well.
Firstly, all this talk of exercise is making me a little Haven't actually done any form of proper exercise since falling preggers as so far have been too tired/sick/lazy. However, I am a childminder and tend to be running around after little ones all day so that will have to be enough for now!

Thanks for the tips on bras too - just this last week or so have been thinking that my regular bras are a little tight - having been fine up until now. Time for a fitting I think.

Also thanks again for reassurance re spotting - it seems to be tailing off again today so haven't bothered midwife (mainly as I don't want DP to know I am spotting due to sad news earlier in week and the fact that I am seeing her thurs anyway). So will just keep fingers crossed for now.

Have a nice, relaxing evening everyone!

blondecat · 08/06/2010 18:32

tanmu82, others

How do the flutters feel? I haven't felt anything but the I don' know what I am looking for
Are those early baby movements unmistakebale?
I think it's still a bit early for me but I'd hate to miss them!

Lizzzombie · 08/06/2010 18:41

My flutters sort if feel like a butterfly inside me. I didn't feel anything with my 1st pregnancy for ages though. This time round its been much earlier.

rollerbaby · 08/06/2010 21:52

hi all

I've got my 20 week scan tomorrow!! So excited and can't wait to find out the flavour.

Still haven't felt anything definite either - a bit of odd feeling after I wee, but no flutters or bubbles as people decribe. I do think my placenta is anterior too though.

Supposed to be working now but feel like a zombie so early night in order.

Night all

KiwiKat · 08/06/2010 23:46

Will you tell us, honeymoo? We want to find out too.

bunnygirl80 · 09/06/2010 00:22

blondecat my flutters feel like someone blowing bubbles inside me. Occasionally they're much stronger and it feels like somebody hammering on a door trying to get out.

honeymoo good luck with your scan

Lizzzombie · 09/06/2010 07:32

honeymoo How exciting! Mines not for ages...more like a 23 week scan.
