Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PrivetDancer · 04/06/2010 13:34

I just had my 16 week appointment this morning, and the really good news is that the grumpy mw who booked me in has now moved and the new one seems much nicer!

I also managed to remember to tell her about DD's hole in the heart which I completely forgot about when they were taking history last time! So now it sounds like I'll be having a special heart scan too.

Dd's doesn't cause any problems for her (hence forgetting about it) and is expected to sort itself out so not too worried.
Thanks for reminding me Wallace!

cluelessnchaos · 04/06/2010 15:26

A few friends have offered to come with me grinningbee and one friend is having the kids because its a local holiday but I actually just want to go on my own since dh cant be there.

dairymum · 04/06/2010 18:43

privet dancer so glad your new midwives are nicer.
cluelessnchaos i'm going to scan on my own too. DP working, (doing my job) and like you, friends have offered to go but i think that would just make me more nervous.

My blood results came back yesterday with low risk for downs and spina bifida, and i immediately realised how scared i had been. Finally started to feel excited and happy, which i hadn't allowed myself before.
huge to everyone else thats had good results, and good luck to all those still waiting.

I have no idea how much weight i have gained, although i'm still wearing my jeans. Definitely a bump now though. I'm struggling to find long tops in my wardrobe at the mo, and have a 40th party to go to tomorrow night, and no time to shop cos i'm working tomorrow! speaking of which i need to go repair a bouncy castle.

have a good weekend everyone. catch you next week.

Rinnyx · 04/06/2010 18:44

Hope everything is enjoying the weather and set to have a good weekend

I am feeling abit low today, had mega lower back pain and on lower right of bump I just laid on the bed til it passed plus later on I got another nosebleed

Baby is ok tho as DP thought it funny to shake bump which followed by a swift kick in the lower right part of my bump, BP found this very funny also thankfully my friend said he will come round tonight and color and cut my hair, a pick me up I really need I think

Gaga82 · 04/06/2010 19:57

Rinnyx I have had a couple of nosebleeds the last 2/3 days, I'm hoping it is down to the hot weather.

I had my bloodtest results about the rash I had back the other day (when the Dr was on the other end of the phone, I nearly had a heart attack) apparantly I have slightly low iron and slightly high liver function so they are retesting next Monday before deciding what to do. The rash has almost completely cleared up in the last couple of days though, so I have my fingers crossed for better news next week and hoping it is some sort of odd 'blip'.

Anyway, baking the cake for my nephew's third birthday party tomorrow. Must get back! The pressure is on! Hope everyone is keeping well and cool.

tiany · 04/06/2010 22:13

had a mild freak out because i woke up sleeping on my back... i often roll onto my back during the night ... but read something about this cutting of blood vessels to uterus..... anyway.... i read a bit more this evening and seems its not such a big deal as long as you dont get to breathless.

anyone else sleep on their back? i forgot to ask m/w about it...

PrivetDancer · 04/06/2010 23:07

I often woke up on my back towards end of last pregnancy - if it's causing a problem you'll know about it as you'll feel light-headed afaik.
Not really a problem at the moment anyway I think as our bumps aren't very big or heavy yet!

tanmu82 · 05/06/2010 01:31

I have always been a side sleeper, but find that I am now starting to turn onto my back in the night - was worrying me a bit, but seems not to be doind me any harm and baby is very active so I figure it's not such a big deal. Besides, I'm sure it'll happen less as bump gets bigger and heavier

hmmSleep · 05/06/2010 07:46

Hope scan and tests go well on Monday clueless and Gaga82.

I'm feeling a little uneasy as after feeling movement a few times about a week ago I haven't been able to feel a thing, over 19 wks now. I've been lying really still to see if I can feel anything, tried shoving my belly about a bit and eating chocolate as apparently that can make baby wriggle, but nothing. Trying not to stress about it as I'm sure it's just that the baby is in a different position or something.

I find this stage of pregnancy both the easiest physically and the most stressful. No real signs of pregnancy like the first trimester but not yet definite baby movement to keep me reassured.

Looks like another nice sunny day, so enjoy everyone!

KiwiKat · 05/06/2010 22:33

I'm another one who is eating up a storm - I've put on only 2 pounds, but I look quite a bit fatter, with my waistline completely AWOL. I was a good stone heavier this time than last time I fell pregnant, so I think the baby just had lots of stashed mummy fat to use up first!

DS was born in June, so the maternity clothes I have are all in the wrong season, so thanks for the links, I'll have a bit of a look around.

When did everyone first start feeling the baby moving? I THINK I have, but it's just the occasional faint flutter, so not sure if that's what it really is.

bunnygirl80 · 06/06/2010 01:00

hmmsleep I know what you mean about wanting to feel regular movements for reassurance. I've been feeling flutterings for a couple of weeks, but I definitely don't feel them every day. I think at this stage baby enough space to be able to go off and hide for a few days

kiwi I first felt very faint flutters from about 13 weeks, although all the books say that's way too early for a first timer, so I do wonder if some of it was just wind They've been getting stronger over the last few days, and I felt my first proper unmistakeable baby movement yesterday at 16+1.

I went to my first antenatal yoga class on Thursday-it was a lot more hard work than I thought it would be. My legs are still sore today. Most of the rest of the class were at least 35 weeks pg so I felt like a bit of a fraud being the only one who didn't look obviously pg.

KiwiKat · 06/06/2010 12:05

Bunny, thanks for the reminder re yoga - I've been meaning to find a class. Did you enjoy it? Can anyone recommend any classes in East London?

hmmSleep · 06/06/2010 12:34

Kiwi, I only felt something last week, at 18wks, and nothing again since! Thanks for reassurance bunnygirl.

I've started a thread in the baby name topic asking for opinions, come and see what you think

Lizzzombie · 06/06/2010 14:12

Ok, this is a bit TMI but does anyone else feel like they have been kicked in the crotch?
Its doing my head in.
Apparently it means that your cervix is stretching ready for the baby or something, but it normally seems to happen later in pregnancy than now.
I am sure I never felt it in my first pregnancy.
I would ask my MW, but I don't get my 1st proper appointment until 28 weeks (which I am still getting over the shock of!).

Hope everyone else is feeling fabulous now we have left the 1st trimester behind! x

tanmu82 · 06/06/2010 14:26

I started feeling flutters at around 15 weeks, but since 17 weeks I have been having regular movements throughout the day, every day. I am surprised actually at how strong they already are - DH, DC's and my best friend have all even felt the kicks for themsleves. Am 18+5 now

Lizzzonmbie I felt a bit like this in my first pg and was diagnosed with SPD - though luckily I only had a mild case and didn't need meds or physio.

tiany · 06/06/2010 19:05

I havent felt any movements yet...hope I will soon, 17+1 today.

I found an ante-natal pilates place in Clapham. I am going to give it a go this week, will let you know how it goes for anyone thats interested.

Lizzzombie that sounds awful you poor thing... I havent had that feeling yet, just usual pulling/stretching but i feel that a bit higher.

KiwiKat · 06/06/2010 23:21

Ow, Lizzie - poor you! Will be interested to hear how the pilates goes, Tiany.

Lizzzombie · 07/06/2010 08:56

Thanks Tanmu I will investigate SPD. I really hope its not that though!

I've flutterings for a while now, and they tend to be in the evening. Someone told me if your baby is moving more in the evening then they could be the type of baby who is more active in the evening. Could be fun!

harmonyb23 · 07/06/2010 14:29

Hey everyone, had my 16 week appointment with the midwife today. All my blood tests from last time were normal, including my iron count (which I thought would be low as I usually suffer a bit with anaemia, but was fine). Decided to have the blood tests to see if there is a possibility that I have a high risk factor of having a baby with Down's syndrome. Hoping that that will come back with a low risk factor so that I won't have to have any further testing (amniocentesis sounds so scary!). Everything else is normal though.

With regards to the babies movements I have been feeling flutterings now and again for the last 3 weeks (am now 16+5). Really looking forward to when my partner can share in the experience though as he says he feels left out lol.

cluelessnchaos · 07/06/2010 15:06

Scan went fine, in fact it went really well, it was the midwife I spoke to on the phone when the letter came in re high afp in my blood, so i didnt have to explain my history again. She was very efficient and I was being scanned for half an hour while she checked the brain, and each little bit of the spine, throughout she explained what she was looking for and that it was all normal, she also showed me my blood results saying low risk for downs, higher risk for spina bifida buts said from what she could see there was no reason to worry and I wouldnt need an additional scan next week, so I have cancelled that appointment, baby looked really normal, iykwim, everything in proportion and I even think i saw the sex, but the hospital are under strict instructions not to tell, keeping it under my hat for the time being in case I am wrong, I feel I can breathe a sigh of relief (again) and try to enjoy this pregnancy. Lots of baby movements but my stomach muscles are shot to pieces.

Babybean1 · 07/06/2010 15:53

Glad all went well clueless

Forgive me if im being silly, but what is SPD??

Know what you mean hmm and kiwi! Feeling things from about 16 weeks but definitely not everyday. Got a bit worried saturday after quite a lot of movement Friday, but need to remember some people dont even feel things until they're 20 + weeks so try to not let it worry me. Felt more yesterday tho which was nice

Looked at your names thread hmm and thought some people were a little harsh! Know honesty is a good thing....but hey, some were a bit 'to the point'

Has anyone used a pregnancy pillow yet? Ordered one on line which arrived Friday and its lovely! I tuck it behind my back which stops me rolling onto my back during the night if i wake up, as i too have worried about that! Does get me a bit hot in this weather tho

hmmSleep · 07/06/2010 17:47

clueless and harmony, glad to hear your scan and test results went well.

Babybean I didn't know what SPD was either, so googled - SPD

Ha, yes some of my name thread responses were quite blunt, but I guess asking 'which do you hate' in thread title I kind of expected it, so put my hard hat on! Still no closer to a decision though, think I'll have to wait and see what it suits when it arrives.

I'm going to get a pregnancy pillow this time, previously I just used millions of normal pillows, but have decided it would be worth the investment as good for breastfeeding and propping up baby when older after the birth too. Where did you order yours babybean?

balijay · 07/06/2010 18:50

Evening everyone - glad to hear about all the scans and appointments

Am just over 16 weeks and have spotting again today . Is just brown and not much but still my heart sinks. Haven't even told DP as his dad died suddenly a week ago so don't want him worrying about my pregnancy too - he would be gutted. Am guessing that my period would be due around this time so am putting it down to that - what does everyone else think? Am fairly sure I can feel bubs moving so trying to be calm but is hard

Babybean1 · 07/06/2010 19:39

Got it from sophusamicus shop on eBay hmm Theyre brand new and it comes with a free pillow case for £16.50 including postage. It's loads cheaper than any i saw elsewhere. Tried to post a link but am finding it a bit to complicated from my phone-sorry
DH said "isn't it just 2 pillows together" which technically I guess it is, but sure does the trick instead of fiddling about with loads thought the same about using it for feeding etc

Try to stay positive balijay although know it's easier said than done. I've read some people have bleeding/periods even, all the way through. Can u ring your midwife to ask advice??
