Mibby So sorry about your cat I had a 14 year old brother and sister, and lost the sister 20 days after dd was born and her brother 10 weeks later. It was heartbeaking, and not helped by all the hormones either.

Pidgin Hope everything is settled again.

We spent the day in Skeggy on Saturday and it was boiling! DD had a good time (was smothered head to toe in suncream!) and I can safely say she lurves icecream Did loads of walking and ended up with elephant ankles, and bump kicked me like a goodun. He really is an active little monkey!

Hope everyone had good weekends

comtessa · 12/07/2010 10:37

Hello all, it's been a while.
shoppingstar your arrangements sound great. It must be lovely to feel so well supported by family and not-quite-family.

Ok, time for a brief self-indulgent moan. Made redundant, claimed JSA, but they say that because I've been paying NI for just under the last two years (never mind the six years I was paying before I quit my job to go to Uni), I'm not entitled to any money. Neither for income based, as my husband earns "too much". (which is really not a lot!) I think it's only about eight weeks until I can get that and I am job-hunting but honestly, I'm showing and who's going to employ me now - anti-discrimination laws aside.

Anyway, rant over. We have a scan on Friday so looking forward to that, and hoping to see the sex of the baby. Been starting to feel some movements, which is exciting. So that's the most important thing of course, but I can't help but feel left down by the other stuff.

Hope all well with everyone.

xxx

umf · 12/07/2010 12:20

Ouch, comtessa. Were you working enough in this pg to get Maternity Allowance? From a quick google it looks like you might.

Rinnyx · 12/07/2010 14:19

Hey ladies not been on here since Tuesday I think.
Anyone want to fill me in on stuff I missed? scans, etc?

Pidgin · 12/07/2010 15:29

Thanks for the kind thoughts all - had a very quiet weekend and all looks fine, baby kicking like a (Dutch) footballer so nothing to worry about hopefully.

Comtessa that sounds really unfair - I hope you do qualify for MA. Good luck for the scan on Friday - as you say, that's the important thing, but it's not surprising the other stuff gets you down.

Good luck with submitting umf! When's your viva? There is a v good book called Surviving Your Viva by Rowena Murray if you like that sort of thing - costs a fortune but might be in a library - I would lend you mine but it's out on loan already!

comtessa · 12/07/2010 17:51

Thanks umf and pidgin. I've done some research and yes it looks like I'll qualify for MA, thankfully. So I wouldn't even have been claiming JSA for very long, but even eight weeks would have helped. Am being constructive with my anger and making dartboard.

Wallace · 12/07/2010 20:14

I have put a photo of my bump on my profile (20+1 - the day I had my scan) I feel a lot bigger now - not even a week later. I must take a new one to see if the difference is as big as it feels. (If you are wondering what I'm wering I was on my way to PiYo)

I've also put a photo of me with ds2 less than 20 mins after he was born. I won't be keeping it up for long though so be quick

Hi tanmu

umf - good luck with thesis xx (fingers crossed emoticon)

grinningbee - lucky thing with the weather [envy) It hasn't been that nice up here at all.

comtessa - fel free to rant, that's one thing we're here for

Rinnyx - this thread moves so fast, doesn't it? I had my scan last wed and think I saw a willy. Dh didn't see anything so I am not telling him so he gets the surprise he wants. I am also prepared to be surprised by a girl...

Wallace · 12/07/2010 20:15

How did I miss you, pidge. Glad baby is lively (lol at Dutch footballer!)

tiany · 12/07/2010 21:18

Comtessa thats rubbish, not any concilliation but also happened to my friend when pg... her little fella is now 1yr old... tbh i think she enjoyed the time once she got into it.

Is there anyway you could maybe do short contracts if full time roles dont come up? just an idea...

Tried antenatal yoga this evening... WOW am i stiff but may stick with it for a few months and see. Also doing pilates which I am enjoying!

umf · 12/07/2010 21:24

Thanks pidgin and wallace! Will look for that book, pidgin. Useful to have tip. Don't have viva date yet, but hoping very much it'll be before baby arrives. Breastfeeding in viva tricky to pull off, I'd guess. Supervisor is going to use due date to hassle examiners - both of whom have children, so should understand. When I'll do the corrections (please, please only minor ones) is another question, but am practising new chilled-out que sera personality.

harmonyb23 · 13/07/2010 10:57

Hey everyone, hope you are all well. Sorry to hear about your bleeding Pidgin hope everything is OK now?

Comtessa glad you can get MA, finances are such a pain in the ass! When I had DS at 15 I couldn't get any help, had to wait until I was 16 to claim any benefits and as I was still at school I had to rely on my mum and dad to pay for everything. Not exactly in a much better position now lol. Apparently myself and DP earn too much to qualify for any Working Tax Credits even though I am only part-time, it's madness!!!

We're on holiday from Friday of this week so am looking forward to spending some time with DP and DS, will be nice to get away. Just been sorting through all the clothes I can still fit into, there's not many, and I haven't really bought any maternity wear apart from work trousers, which I have been living in lol. Might need to do some shopping before going away!! Has everyone else got a lot of maternity wear? I feel like I haven't got anything to wear and it makes me quite annoyed/sad that I can't fit into my pencil skirt, which is my favourite item of clothing. Will definitely have to treat myself I think .

Showed U/S pics to a lady (who used to be an ultrasonographer) in my mum's shop the other day, was telling her how I had been told it was a boy etc. She turned around and said that what we thought was the penis looks like a foot, I am inclined to agree as I had previously commented on this to DP. She then looked at one of the other scan photos and said that due to the fact the baby is face on with its' legs splayed you would normally see a penis (if it were a boy) but that that wasn't what you could see, you could only see a bunch of white lines, which she says could mean it's a girl! I'm so confused now and have resigned to buying no more boy orientated baby clothes, may as well not have asked to find out sex lol... Oh well, a surprise is more fun I guess.

Wallace · 13/07/2010 11:19

lol harmony. And seeing as I have based my hunch that ours is a boy on hte fact that I saw something that looked like your scan pic, I'd better not buy anything blue either!

shoppingstar · 13/07/2010 12:21

harmony I suddenly grew a bump after my 20 week scan and lots of comfortable clothes became uncomfortable. Have one (frequently washed) pair of maternity work trousers and a few non-mat tops which still fit but I feel like every day there is something else which doesn't fit any more.

The couple of things I bought in M&Ps sale for holiday are comfy but not really warm enough on the rainy days here in Glasgow so think I will try to make a few more sensible purchases which should see me through to November.

Routine MW appointment this morning went well. Lots of advice and reassurance

umf · 13/07/2010 13:02

harmony there are still bargains to be had in the Blooming Marvellous maternity wear sale. Remarkably good bargains. I bought 7x trousers, tops, cardies etc for about £11 each, which for good quality seemed rather a steal.

comtessa · 13/07/2010 15:20

Hello all, have cheered up following a couple of hours at the allotment. Thanks for supportive messages.

Also, H&M maternity have some nice things on sale at the moment - I got two knit (cotton, not wool) dresses last week which will do for colder summer evenings or winter, dressed up or down and a drapey kind of cardigan all for £30. BEFORE I found out about no JSA! Oh well, I'll get good wear out of them!

Happy scans to all xx

hmmSleep · 13/07/2010 15:57

Nothing much happening at the moment so haven't posted in a while, just been lurking, thread dropped off my 'I'm on' list!

Very interested to see whether you have a boy or girl now harmony.

My bump is now huge, there's a Mum at pre-school due the same day as me and I'm about twice her size, think I must be seriously lacking in the stomach muscle department, lots of 'are you sure there's only one in there?' type comments.

Finally feeling more movement now too, which seeing as I'm coming up to 25 wks I guess I should, chocolate really gets it going, dh felt 3 hard kicks after I'd eaten a large bar of dairy milk .

Dd had her pre-school leaving party today, and ds has just had his pre-school induction day, it only feels like yesterday that they were little wriggles in my tummy!

OP posts:
comtessa · 13/07/2010 16:10

HmmSleep, I empathise! I'm due at the end of November (more likely beginning December - family of latecomers...) and I feel big. Have been in maternity things for at least a month. Funny how people feel they can comment on your size when pregnant but wouldn't dream of it at other times!

Also, am 20.5 weeks and think have started feeling wriggles - anyone else due late November feeling their LO wriggle too?

xx

Rinnyx · 13/07/2010 18:26

I feel like over the weekend my belly has just gone boom, babys kicks these days can hurt and I often let out a ouch making DP and DD look at me funny.

Went into blooming marvellous Friday and spent about £37 in there but I did get swimwear for £20, a super cute summer outfit for next year £16 down to £6 and 2 cute sleepsuits, one says 'I'm the little brother' and the other 'I

4madboys · 13/07/2010 18:42

Rinny have been getting stuff from blooming marvellous and was in there on friday! didnt see you tho!

i am not buying girls clothes really as i dont want to tempt fate, but have been given some lovely bits and also a practically brand new maxi cosi first stage car seat, it is now all up in the loft as it feels too early to have stuff around the house.

almost 21wks now and starting to get a bump and finally feeling the baby move which is lovely, the boys are desperate to feel her move but i suspect they will have to wait a few more weeks.

and typing HER or even thinking about the fact that its apparently a girl is still dont think i will believe it until i see it!

nomoremagnolia · 13/07/2010 19:30

Hi all,
Sorry it's been so long, I really can't bear catching up with the past 6 weeks, so I'm just launching myself back in here - I hope that's ok.
So what's been happening then? I have been shopping lots and bought most of the boring stuff, waiting for DH to come home before we buy the cute stuff though, I feel I ought to let him choose some stuff I am still waiting for my bump to realise it's 24 weeks old, not 12 - there are plenty of people at work who haven't realised I'm pg, even though it's been public knowledge for the past 12 weeks.....oh well, shouldn't grumble as all is well and that's what matters.
So how is everyone? Fill me in on the gossip

Rinnyx · 13/07/2010 21:10

4madboys I was in there about 3.30 I think, must of spent a hour in there haha, tried on afew items and hey congrats on your little girl, so happy for you
I might go in again before they close, August 18th I think they said, I'm sure stuff will be even more crazy cheap

Wallace · 14/07/2010 07:53

I think my photos got buried amongst all this natter A photo of my 20 week bump and at the bottom a photo of me and ds2 less than 20 minutes after he was born. I put the newborn one on to make people have that newborn gooey feeling (I won't be leaving it up for long as it is slightly revealing!)

I was lying in the bath last night watching my bump squirm - it was lovely

shoppingstar - that's funny my bump grew suddenly after my 20 week scan. Still not in maternity clothes though...

Wish we had a blooming marvellous nearby

comtessa - glad you got some shopping done before I must see if our H&M has maternity. I'm due 23rd nov and have been feeling wriggles since about 16 weeks. It is my fourth though!

Rinnyx - I think yours is the Dutch footballer!

4madboys - The girl thing will take sme getting used to!

Hi magnolia

shoppingstar · 14/07/2010 08:11

Loving your new born photo Wallace and wish my bump had less fat adding to its dimensions - sure thats why I'm needing mat trousers.

Off to the butterfly farm with friends DC today (to shelter from the rain). . . .

comtessa · 14/07/2010 08:49

Lovely photos Wallace! x

nomoremagnolia · 14/07/2010 09:50

wallace it's a beautiful photo, I hope I can look that gorgeous after giving birth (and nowhere near as revealing as the one my BF's DH showed all his work colleagues of BF with her newborn!)
