Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hello everyone, I have been sent home from work today as I am having pain in my pubic bone and pelvis. I have phoned the midwife and she has said that it sounds like SPD. I have got to go and see a physiotherapist next Wednesday at Southmead hospital for advice on how to relieve the pain slightly. Midwife also said I may need to take a couple of days off of work if the pain persists. It is quite bad at the moment, feels like I've been kicked in my groin .

Hope everyone else is doing OK. Glad that all scans are going well. Mine is in 6 days (on Monday 5th) can't wait!

grinningbee · 29/06/2010 12:18

Well, I was at the hospital for ages yesterday!

Baby was being uncooperative, and halfway through the scan I had to go for a walk for 15 minutes and eat chocolate.

Everything looks fine, measurements slightly over average (eeeeeeeeeeeek!!) so all good really.

My fibroid is now the size of a full term baby's head. Thankfully it's out of the way, but it isn't exactly comfortable.

Anyway, we were told what the sonographer thinks we're having, and it's not was I was expecting! It looks as if dd will have a little brother It was such a shock that I did cry a bit, but it's really good.

Oh yes, and it would see, that the placenta is at the front this time, so shielding a lot of the kicks although I can feel them more often now.

We get to see baby again in October when we have a 36 week scan to check the fibroid and stuff. I do hope it doesn't grow much more...

smokeybacon · 29/06/2010 12:29

Hello ladies,

Haven't posted for ages and need to do a catch up I think.

So bookmarking and will be back later.

Booboobedoo · 29/06/2010 13:49

Hi everyone. Sitting here relieved that the weather's cooled off a bit.

harmony - sorry to hear about your SPD - rotten luck. Hope you can keep your feet up for the next couple of days.

grinningbee - I take it that operating on the fibroid would put the baby at risk? You poor thing.

Nice to hear all the good scan news.

Ours is next Tuesday afternoon. Can't wait! Will definitely find out the sex if possible, and will shout it from the rooftops I should imagine.

Went to the beach with Mum and DS yesterday. Sparkly sea, blue sky, hot sun and breeze - bliss. Mum took DS for a swim and to build sandcastles while I slept on the blanket.

grinningbee · 29/06/2010 14:06

Booboobedo of that snooze on the beach!

Yes, the fibroid has to stay for now, and they won't do anything at the birth either. There's a risk of too much bleeding.

If I'm lucky it might go back down, but have been warned during pregnancy to look out for pain, fever and bloody discharge which might be the lump degenerating. Nice!

Pregnancy is sooooooo glam

hmmSleep · 29/06/2010 17:51

Glad more scans are going well, congrats on your little boy grinningbee, although the fibroid does sound like a bit of a pain!

Hope you're not too uncomfortable harmony, hope seeing the physiotherapist helps.

Dh and Ds have both come down with flu, the gp said it probably isn't swine flu as they seem too ill for that, apparently in most cases swine flu is much milder. Have been told to stay away from dh, not sure what good that is when I'm the one looking after ds though! Finding it hard to be sympathetic, feel more like saying 'don't you know I'm tired, couldn't you have chosen a better time to be ill!' Very unreasonable of me I know.

Just home from our scan, all is well and we have a nice, healthy little girl

The grandparents to be are already planning their shopping trips, anything pink and frilly is in danger

shoppingstar · 29/06/2010 22:32

Congrats to all who have been scanned - boys, girls and surprises and grinningbee wishing you a shrinking fibroid.

dairymum hope you have found an oscars outfit in the wardrobe

All was well with our scan this afternoon and we are having a little girl. Seeing ten toes and ten fingers and knowing its a she was a huge excitement. I've been really good so far and have resisted buying anything but now I can see pink in my future - a lot of pink

good luck for all the scans in the next few days

Pidgin · 30/06/2010 09:13

great to hear everyone's scan news!

sorry to hear about the spd harmony, in the yoga class I go to the leader gave us some exercises to help with that, I hope your physio can help. It sounds like a really unpleasant pain, you have my sympathy.

And sorry to hear about your DH and DS too hmmsleep - as you say the timing is not great for you! Hope you avoid the germs.

I'm downloading a naff CD called 'Mozart for Oregnancy' at the mo - thought I would play the baby some classical music to calm it and boost its little brain cells, but the only Mozart I could find is the Requiem, not that appropriate really!

Hope everyone is well.

Pidgin · 30/06/2010 09:14

erm, that would be Pregnancy, not Oregnancy (sounds like a herb)

shoppingstar · 30/06/2010 17:27

Just been told I have a place at the local antenatal yoga class. I've been on the waiting list for a few weeks and was fretting that time was passing so v pleased I'll be yoga-ing on Monday.

Pidgin I like the sound of Mozart for pregnancy - lovely and calming . . .

applegirl · 30/06/2010 18:04

Hello all! Not been on for a while... great to see all the news on the recent scans

We had our scan yesterday, and were delighted that everything looks fine, and to find out we are expecting a boy - so exciting

MIL doesn't want to know what we are having - so we'll see if we can keep it secret! (I doubt it!).

Might start thinking about buying some bits and pieces now. Has anyone got any views on the Mothercare my3 or my4 prams? They are half the price of the iCandy/Quinny versions... would be interested if anyone has any experience with this... prams are still freaking me out!!!

x

Wallace · 30/06/2010 19:53

apple - congrats on your boy! I would definitely go for the mothercare prams, no point sending the extra money IMO

shopping and mibby - congrats on your girls! Nice to see it isn't all boys here

poor you, hmmsleep. Hope you get some rest.

grinningbee congrats on your boy Hope fibroid isn't a nuisance. At my dating scan they found that I have a small one, but I know nothing about them whatsoever.

monkeymum2010 · 30/06/2010 20:00

Great to hear the good scan news continues. Hope everyone is keeping cool in this heat - I feel for those 30+ weekers in this heat at least it should be cooler when we reach that stage!

Harmony hope the physio helps with the spd.

I've had a lot of aches in my upper legs myself the last few days - anyone else finding that? Feel like my legs have aged about 30 years in 3 days!

Shoppingstar hope you enjoy the antenatal yoga - I've been going for a few weeks now and it has been just great.

Good luck with all the scans still to come!

applegirl · 30/06/2010 20:21

Thanks Wallace for the comment about the mothercare prams - definitely going to look at them closer on my next trip there.

Monkeymum - yes, I feel a few aches and pains recently, and certainly feel like I have aged!! Just trying to keep active, although the hayfever isn;t helping

harmonyb23 · 01/07/2010 08:40

Hey everyone, just checking in. Painkillers are helping but have made me feel quite nauseous, and I was actually sick last night, which was horrible! So guess it's a lose, lose situation

Applegirl I found Mothercare prams, including the MY4 very expensive and quite impractical. I don't like the fact that you have to buy so many accessories in order to change any of their buggies into travel systems, would have cost £600 to have the buggy with the carseat and attachments for car/pram and to have the actual pram seat attachment. Madness, and my mum gets 20% off, but even that still makes it ridiculously expensive! But if you have the money then that's cool!

I got a brand new Graco travel system with in car base for £189.00 in the end (online.) So I am quite chuffed with my bargain! Going to buy a carrycot for £25.00 that matches and use the travel system as a pram as well, all the features of the MY4 at around 1/3 of the price.

My goodness how many are having boys now? There only seem to be a few with girlies... Last time I was pregnant I was the only patient seeing my midwife who was having a boy so maybe all these boys this time mean I'll have a girl. I don't mind to be honest, so excited to find out though! Bring on Monday!!!

smokeybacon · 01/07/2010 09:26

Is everyone finding out what they are having? We are keeping it/them as a surprise till they arrive.

I'm interviewing a doula this morning as I reckon I'm going to need professional help after these 2 arrive. I've really not much idea as to what doulas do post natally, as my impression is that they are there mainly for birth support. But its post natally that I think the help will be needed as the birth (howsoever that happens) doesn't phase me - it the aftermath!

Re prams - look on ebay. You can get some bargains. We had our first Mutsy for DS1 from ebay and it was a fantastic bargain. And if anyone is interested in A Mutsy 4Rider lite (the one with the smaller wheels at the front) with a carry cot, pushchair, lie flat adjustable car seat with attachments for the chasis, together with all the necessary rain covers, let me know! Its in pretty good nick really too. It will be going on ebay in a few weeks otherwise.

umf · 01/07/2010 09:50

So exciting with all the scans!!

Sorry to hear about the 'flu and the spd. Hope physio helps - it's supposed to be really good. I had spd last time but didn't know what it was and (useless, London) midwives completely booked up and unhelpful. This time will be straight to physio if it starts.

Second smokeybacon's pram comment: 2nd hand is the way to go. Got a one year old Bugaboo with all the trimmings for £250 for DS. Bugaboos in particular lose a huge part of their value in the first year, just cos many of the people who want them are concerned about newness. Also got an ebay Phil&Teds for nannyshare purposes. Would like to add a jogger/3 wheeler of some kind this time, but current finances mean purchase of extra baby socks needs careful consideration, let alone buggies...

Pidgin · 01/07/2010 10:25

I also got a second-hand Bugaboo (Bee) from ebay! Was £255 and it is lovely. It's sitting in a lawnmower box in my living room. It even came with a DVD on how to work it - I never realised prams were this complicated...

harmonyb23 · 01/07/2010 10:56

Hello again, I was just wondering how much weight everyone has put on so far. I am panicking that I haven't put on enough. I weighed myself the other day and even though I look massive in comparison to how I normally look I have only put on 4 lbs overall so far (was 12st 4 now 12st 8). I was heavy before so could it be that I am losing my own weight and gaining baby weight which means it's evening out?

Just a bit worried as some of the ladies on the other chat topics have said they have put on loads of weight in just the first 15 weeks... Probably just worrying over nothing.... Was the same last time I was pregnant... But I thought it would be different this time round?

umf · 01/07/2010 11:25

pidgin hah! yes, the mother I bought our pram from advised that I should treat it like military rifle training. She put hers by the bottom of the stairs and made herself strip it down and reassemble every time she walked past it until she could do it in under 1 minute. I lacked her discipline... but did practise a bit.

PrivetDancer · 01/07/2010 12:40

Well harmony I have suddenly put on loads of weight! Half a stone in the last couple of weeks. Bit gutted and also a bit mystified as I don't think my eating has ramped up that much!
Was quite happy while gaining nothing!
So now a total of 13lb over 20 weeks, which is quite a lot but not as much as I'd put on last time I don't think. I don't think I've actually really got fatter though so maybe it's just fluid.
I really don't think you need to worry about not gaining much. The baby only weighs about half a pound at the moment so a 4lb gain is quite reasonable!

Scan tomorrow! V excited, but no we're not going to find out the sex smokybacon.

grinningbee · 01/07/2010 15:00

I have put on about 10lb so far, but I'd like to think that some of that is down to the fibroid and not scone related

So... anyone have any pram tips for me? Dd will be 19 months when ds (how odd is it typing that!!) arrives, and she is not walking as yet. I am going to need a double buggy and am stumped. I am thinking the one behind the other type would be best, but obviously it needs to be suitable for a baby to be in. Budget is tight. I've seen the Graco ones (Duo and something else) and one called Safety 1st.

Any ideas? I am very confused! And how long do dc's need a pushchair for?

I'll save the bed/cot question for another day!

balijay · 01/07/2010 15:27

Hello!! Back from my scan and all is looking great - and we are TEAM PINK!!! So excited, so that means I will have 1 DS and 2 DDs!! Well chuffed.

harmony Don't worry - everyone is different with weight gain. Pre pregnancy I was 9st4lb, I went down to 8st7 through morning sickness/nausea and am still only just over 9st now (despite eating like a pig), so 3lbs lighter than I started even at 20 weeks!

grinningbee I have a little Graco side by side for childminding which I really like. Paid just over £100 online incl raincover and it is really light and dead easy to put up and down. How big is your DD? The seats are fairly narrow on the Graco for a big toddler and you might need it until DD is 3+....

Wallace · 01/07/2010 16:04

applegirl - should have addd that I haven't bought a pram for 11 years

I will be using the same old-fashioned Silvercross type pram I had for ds2, his old umbrella pushchair and a sling.

balijay - yey! Another gil

Good luck PrivetDancer, we're not finding out either.

Re weightgain - I'm still about 8lbs less than I was before I was pregnant, but have put on about 2lbs in the last few weeks and am now eating like a horse so sure it wont be long before I regain my pre-pregnancy weight
