Hello ladies how are you all doing?
Just a quick post before I have to collect DD from music lesson

Just been shopping and bought afew items for baby...or should I day DS now haha
Even tho DP did not want to do the 'baby shopping' thing he was the one who picked out the cotbed today, we will pick it up Sunday with the help of the inlaws beast of a car, so excited, will order the mattress off kiddiecare tho, them seem to have good deals

Pidgin · 01/07/2010 16:53

harmony I have stopped weighing myself so can no longer say how much I've gained . I wouldn't worry about it - everyone is different and as long as you feel well and you're eating enough then I'm sure you're fine.

I am now bidding on ebay for a cot - it's so addictive this baby-buying business. Have also made DH book off every free weekend we have between now and November to organise our spare room into a nursery and get ready for the baby. Think he was a but miffed, but I am already starting to worry about how we'll get everything done in time so it was necessary (not that I'm a control freak or anything...).

Anyone thought about a co-sleeper cot? I like the look of those Arms Reach ones - any of you wise and experienced mums used a co-sleeper before?

applegirl · 01/07/2010 17:10

Thanks for all the tips on prams - what a minefield! I thought the maothercare ones were cheaper than the iCandy's, Quinny's and Bugaboo's etc. but sounds like they cost a small fortune by the time you've got all the bits you need!

I will re look at ebay - have had a few glances, but did think it might be nice to have a new one for the first baby, but I just can't justify the money! I'd rather put what we save by buying a second hand one in a savings account for the baby - or put it towards the massive list of other stuff to buy!!

Thanks again for all the advice

x

pidgin I have a co-sleeper cot that dd is still sleeping in. Personally I hated it when it was right up against the bed as it was awkward to get in to bed and I couldn't just slide her over without sitting up and then there was nowhere for my legs to go. I was much happier leaving it as a normal cot and ended up carrying her downstairs for feeds anyway so I could watch tv. I know other people think they're great though! Actually when she was quite a bit older and sleeping through I got the hang of feeding lying down so I might be tempted to give it another go this time round.. Will see. Have to get dd out of it first though

hmmSleep · 01/07/2010 18:43

Great to hear yet more great scan news. smokeybacon, think there are a few of us not finding out sex, at least trying not to, it's just dh and I think we accidently saw something!

grinningbee, my dd was 18 months when ds was born, I bought a phil and teds which I love. In fact I love it so much I'm buying another one this time. The one I have is a bit knackered now, which I guess doesn't say much for their longevity! I also tried baby carrier / single pushchair and single pushchair / buggyboard combinations, but I found them a bit awkward and too much hassle.

I don't own scales harmony, so no idea how much weight I've put on, I think it's quite normal, in fact healthier, not to have put on too much at this stage though.

afternoon all

just checking in, lovely to hear all this news about scans, and there are a few little girls now, tho still mainly boys?

my scan is next wed, same day as wallace? i dont think we are going to find out the sex but not 100% decided.

am feeling fine and finally starting to show a bit, tho not in a pregnant way, more in a look like i have put on a few pounds way

we go away to the cornbury festival tomorrow! camping for three nights, we have practised putting the tent up and are fairly organised, it will be our first time taking all four boys camping.....

re pushchairs, i have a bugaboo frog that i love and will use this time with baby in carrycot and ds4 on the buggyboard, but i also have a nipper out n' about instep with the swivel wheel. it is fab for off road etc, really lightweight and fits my hulk of a 2yr old in easily! for the first month or two over winter i will use that for him and have baby in a sling.

have also been offered the loan of a phil and teds so if i need to i have the use of a a double.

someone asked about the natures crib co sleeper? i have a friend who has one, she says its good but expensive and is quite big so space can be an issue.

we just have a big futon and baby sleeps in with us and we have a toddler bed at the end of our bed for when we want to put them in there and have a bit of space but gave up with cots after ds1 who didnt sleep for the first three years.

oh i got two little baby hats in the sale at blooming marvellous today, £1:50 for the two hats, unisex and very cute, they had loads of maternity stuff in the sale, so i got a top for £4!! the lady said they are getting new stock in everyday and its all being discounted as they are being taken over? come aug and they need to sell all stock, so worth nipping in and checking you local one out

right i am away, boys to feed and get to bed and then packing to do for trip away, i shall be back by tuesday, be good whilst i am away

tiany · 01/07/2010 21:41

i think i have out on 7-8lbs (2 of which seem to be in the past week)... i asked the m/w as i am still quite small but she didnt seem bothered at all and just said to make sure i am eating healthy diet.

Friends recommend these co-sleepers to me today..they swear by them.

Congrats on more good scans

Feel like a bit of a porker reading how little weight everyones put on! Was 9st 9lb before and now 10st 10lb!! So over a stone for me!!! Have been weighing every week and it's been about 1lb per week, which according to emails I get each week is about right (hope so as don't want to look like an elephant!!) seems to all be in bump tho as don't really look bigger anywhere else.....well imagine a few of those pounds have made it to my boobs!!

We bought our pram last week!! Sooo excited, I love it!! It's an X-lander XQ (would add a link but on phone so too difficult!) but can be found by googling if anyones interested! We were really lucky as friends of ours have a company based in Poland, selling prams, so for a whole travel system including carrycot, chasis, pram, parasol, rain cover, changing bag etc which usually retails at £750, we got it for £400 so was very chuffed about that! It's such good quality as well and will definitely last (hopefully if we have another one we will use it for both) Loved the ICandy buy just couldn't justify how much it cost, so feel like we've got a great deal for the same quality etc at half the price!

Were not finding out the sex either sometimes regret it when reading about people buying pink or blue bits tho!

Great to hear more good scan news

CardiCorgi · 02/07/2010 09:14

Help, nausea is back. This is not fair.

On the plus side, I have felt a few movements although I am sure that the baby is spending most of its time asleep and that if you listen to my tummy all you will hear is snoring.
DH appeared back from a trip to London with a babygrow and matching hat which look very cute.

Regarding cribs, any idea what to line them with? We have DH's old crib but will be getting a new mattress for it. I noticed that cribs seem to be sold with a padded lining going all the way up to the top, but I had just intended using a single layer of fabric, possibly with one lining layer.

Pidgin · 02/07/2010 10:10

babybean fear not, I've put on more than that, I stopped counting at a stone and that was a while ago...

Thanks for the info on the co-sleeper Privet, that's interesting about the potential problems too... I'll have to see what happens with my ebay bids and let the fates decide!

shoppingstar I meant to say, the CD is OK but it's a bit weird, it's normal Mozart so to speak but half of it is played against 'relaxing' sounds like waves breaking or a sort of buzzing noise - I think just a regular CD would be better!

Sorry to hear about the nausea Cardi, most unfair.

Booboobedoo · 02/07/2010 10:13

Morning all.

at your snoring baby, CardiCorgi. We had a ready-made liner for your Moses basket (a rocking one which I found great), but didn't bother with a cot liner. DS liked to be able to see out.

Haven't posted for a few days as DH has been away for work since Saturday , and I've been trying to keep myself busy. He's back tomorrow, thank goodness.

Also, I'm getting very frustrated waiting for my scan. I'm 23 weeks on Monday, and my scan is on Tuesday, and the thing is...

...all the bloody sales will have finished!

No probs if it's a boy, but if it's a girl I want to kit her out in sale-bargain Boden next summer. (I know, I know).

(Top tip for first-timers - buy 6-9 month summer stuff in the sales now. Swimming stuff and 'jamas particularly good, as it's amazing how expensive they are full-price!).

Booboobedoo · 02/07/2010 10:14

No idea how much weight I've put on now.

Last weighed myself about six weeks ago, and I'd put on over a stone, so I'm not thinking about it.

monkeymum2010 · 02/07/2010 10:45

Feel for you Booboobedoo about DH being away - my DH is away for a few days and I have been so pathetic! Must be all those hormones raging!

Booboobedoo · 02/07/2010 10:51

I think it must be, monkeymum.

I'm usually pertty self-sufficient, but I feel much more vulnerable when I'm pregnant.

This too shall pass, eh?

Sorry to hear you've been feeling wobbly.

grinningbee · 02/07/2010 12:32

Another one here with the return of nausea. Didn't get this last time!

I gagged brushing my teeth yesterday, and felt really sicky this morning, still do a bit. Must be because it's a boy...

Meanwhile dd is systematically destroying the house while I follow tidying up. She's currently engaging in her favourite activity - throw the dvd's off the shelves. And now she knows how to open the cases. Yay! Tis ok though if they get sticky - I don't have time to watch them anymore

Booboobedoo · 02/07/2010 14:40

I throw up about once a week - prob will until the end.

It's not so bad if I don't have to rush in the morning.

At least we've left the first trimester behind!

smokeybacon · 02/07/2010 14:48

Yikes, return of the nausea! You poor things. If mine returns, I shall be seriously hacked off.

grinning I was going to suggest the Phil and Teds too. It seems to be the Law round this way that this is the pushchair of choice for no2 where no1 is still quite young. And when no1 is big enough, it converts nicely to a single. There are a lot on Ebay usually.

Weight gain. I was going to weigh myself next week. I dread to think how much is on. At 12 weeks, I'd put on 8lb which I was quite pleased about considering there are 2 in there and I was eating for 3!

So a quietish weekend for me and DS2. DH and DS1 have gone on a camping trip with some other dads and their various children, leaving me and DS2 who is too young to go at home. This afternoon though I am going to a 1st birthday party with him for some twin girls. If only he was 15, and so were they, he'd be in heaven!!!

harmonyb23 · 02/07/2010 16:31

Phew! Thought I was going to be sick again just now, but luckily the feeling passed! The baby has been going mad today, kicking and rolling around, much more active than DS was! Then it decided to lie against my spine earlier, which wasn't pleasant.

Sorry to hear that others are suffering with nausea too, it's not nice and I can sympathise fully!

Sounds like my small amount of weight change is pretty normal. I was just worrying over nothing as usual!

Going to buy moses basket this month, found a really cool website where you get the sheets and blankets with the basket and stand for only about £70 which is much cheaper than Mothercare where the basket and stand alone cost about £60.

This is what I am going to get www.juniorjungle.com/epages/62036580.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62036580/Products/01-09-011
It's unisex as I think we're going to try for another pretty soon after this one is born!

Does anyone know where there are cheap cots for sale, Mothercare (again) is just so expensive!!!

Mibby · 02/07/2010 18:56

harmony ive only put about 6lb on despite a fair size bump. midwife said it perfectly normal and not to worry or weigh myself much. Also pointed out that it means theres less to lose

PrivetDancer · 02/07/2010 19:06

I picked up my impulse purchase of the week today - a birthing pond pool!
Got it on eBay as I saw one quite local, it's cheaper to buy than the one I hired last time (and didn't get to use) and if it doesn't get used at least it'll make a good paddling pool..

I'd been umming and arring about a homebirth but I guess I'm decided now

comtessa · 02/07/2010 19:10

Hello all, Pidgin and Booboobedoo, I'm definitely at your end of the scale. I think I've gained about a stone, and I'm not due until the end of November.

For cots etc, is anyone else on Freecycle? Type it into google and join your nearest group. There are always lots of baby items doing the rounds. Also, I've not been, but NCT nearly-new sales are meant to be good.

xx

PrivetDancer · 02/07/2010 19:11

Oh yes and I had my 20 week scan
All good and measuring just right. Didn't find out the sex although I was peering intently for clues! I'm useless as seeing things on those scans though. Got heart scan in 2 weeks but the lady today said it all looks fine so don't expect any major shocks.

Will book a 3d scan for 28 weeks so I have something else to look forward too now

BorisTheBold · 02/07/2010 22:15

Hi all,

Nice to hear about everyone's scans - congrats to all those who know what they're having!

I had mine yesterday, everything looks fine (phew - can finally start to relax a bit) and baby is at the higher end of the centiles for length, same as my other two! My next scan is booked for 2nd Sept, to check out baby's size and I will be getting another at 36 weeks to see if a CS is required (fingers crossed it's not). We didn't ask what it was, I'm looking forward to the surprise in Nov.

Told dd1/2 who are 5 and 3 last night. Dd1 was soooo excited, she made me open my mouth so she could blow the baby a kiss. Dd2 asked when I was going to burp it out if only it was that easy.

Still feeling ok, but I now have noticable cankles and am partial to a nap early evening after work when I'm putting kids to bed.

We got our M&P Skate months ago but it was a bargain on ebay so we went for it. Been to IKEA today and picked up a cot for less than £25 (75% off) . It's blue, but I figured DC3 wont mind too much if it turns out to be a girl.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekends!

comtessa · 03/07/2010 18:01

Hi all, glad to hear all is well. I went to look at prams the other day. Has anyone got a Bugaboo Cameleon? Yes, pricey, but hoping to find one on ebay or something. It sounds great, as I like the idea of baby facing me when in pushchair too (my mum's a speech therapist and she's very keen on this) and also hopefully it would go all the way from birth to 2 - 3 years old.
Grateful for anyone's experience of this buggy.

tiany · 03/07/2010 21:27

Hi comtessa hope all is going ok with you and your work situation. I went looking at buggys today aswell... i think i am going for Bugaboo Cameleon also. A few friends have had them and swear by them.. i know some who have gone on to have more kids and still revert to bugaboo whenever they can. They are pretty pricy but i think i will go for it. Have heard if you have two then phil and teds are great but i will cross that bridge when/if we hopefully come to it.

I bought my first baby bits today.. just few neutral colour newborns vests/pj's/bibs in Blooming Marvellous. They are closing July 21st.. great bargains!!! thanks to whoever posted about this earlier
