umf · 22/06/2010 19:18

pidgin thanks, yes, trying to finish phd thesis. Hence the lengthy posts here - anything to distract myself. But need to get on with it before DS's summer holiday starts. A consequence of suddenly losing nanny is that he's in a pre-school type nursery not a daycare one. Much better care than the available daycare ones (the good daycare nurseries have loooong waiting lists), but only until 3:15 everyday and with school holidays.

Mibby · 22/06/2010 20:01

Gaga82 Ive got eye drops and Beconase nasal spray as most of the tablets are not allowed. Dr suggested one squirt of spray up each nostril 4 time daily (total 8 squirts) instead of the packet instruction of 2 squirts each side twice daily (still 8 squirts) and it really helps.

I'm doing the last one right before bed and it helps with breathing/ stuffy nose for several hours

4madboys · 22/06/2010 20:48

re hayfever the sprays are ok and i take piriton and have been told by my midwife, gp and a consultant at the hospital that its ok in pregnancy (i have taken it throughout all my pregnancies and all the boys are fine)

tiany · 22/06/2010 20:55

honeymoo i could potentially be interested in sharing a nanny.. i live in Balham, not Battersea but maybe a runner. Havent looked into anything yet and to be honest while i am planning on taking 6months off large part of me is thinking i should take a year...

Is anyone else feeling exhausted again??

Rinny you look great ...my bump is not as big yet but its defo a bump now... will be 20 wks on saturday...

umf · 22/06/2010 22:08

Owwwww varicose vein in groin!

hmmSleep · 23/06/2010 08:06

Umf, you have a varicose vein in your groin? That does sound painful!

Great bump Rinny, mine hasn't changed much since the earlier picture I posted at 16wks, guess mine popped out early.

Great to hear everyone's scans are going so well.

Going to start looking at new cars over next few weeks, our current car won't fit 3 car seats in the back. Any of you with 3 or more already have good car suggestions? Don't want anything too big, just needs to fit the seats in!

All this childcare talk is making me glad I don't have to do it. I gave up work when dd was born 4.5 yrs ago and don't plan to go back until this one starts school in 5 yrs time. 9 yrs off work, Eek, it'll certainly be scary when I do go back!

OP posts:
Pidgin · 23/06/2010 08:07

Oh no umf! I have read of those ... hope it is not too painful. Can you do anything for it?

Thanks for the info balijay! tiany I feel tireder this week, am wondering if it's the heat?

harmonyb23 · 23/06/2010 08:10

Hi all, had a blood test yesterday morning to see if there is a reason why I am getting dizzy from time to time. My blood pressure is fine so the midwife said it could be either that I am anaemic or that I have been letting my sugar levels drop too low. She suggests snacking but to be honest with the hot weather I haven't been feeling that hungry at all!

I have not even thought about childcare for when I go back to work, probably just book the baby into the daycare centre where DS went when he was little, it is on his school grounds so seems like best option.

Well, off to work I go!!

BorisTheBold · 23/06/2010 08:35

Morning,

Nice to hear about all the scans - I've not got mine until next Thurs and all going well we'll then spill the beans to my 5 & 3 year olds.

Finally got my blood test results back and got 1 in 1516 - which seems pretty low (phew). Had a meeting with my consultant yesterday, as I'm overweight and dd2 was born using McRoberts due to shoulder dystocia. I'm to have a couple of extra scans at 32 and 36 weeks to check baby's size and position to see if c section is required - really don't want this. So fingers (and everything else) crossed than I can go for a VB.

Booboobedoo · 23/06/2010 09:06

Morning!

umf - your poor groin! Ouch.

BorisTheBold - good to hear about your test results, and hope you get a thumbs-up for your VB.

Personally, I'm hankering after an elective caesarian, but have no grounds to request one.

Can someone who's had one come and tell me all the downsides? (Apart from the obvious can't pick up DS afterwards/ catheter/ epidural stuff - which should be enough to put me off).

Started thinking about the birth and getting nervous, and thought 'wouldn't it be nice to book in a date and time, take along a nice CD, someone else does all the work then I get my baby'.

I am aware I'm probably being ridiculously naive. Also, I haven't a hope in hell of having one unless something is seen to be wrong, and I don't want that.

hmmm - I'm not planning to go back to work for a good few years either. I was running my own business when I had DS, and - despite cover - it folded within a year of his birth because I just couldn't give a monkeys any more.

I did some kids parties last year, but now DH has been promoted we can manage fine. Feel very lucky!

I think I might have a career change anyway. Don't miss my old job at all, and would like to do something along the lines of Music Therapist/Social Work.

Vix7 · 23/06/2010 11:20

Gaga82, my GP told me it shld be ok taking any of the OTC hayfever pills. I'm taking Loratidine myself, but i do try not to take it everyday.

DH has severe hayfever problems so we have Loratidine, Acrivastine, Chlorphenamine and Cetrizine at home! and we each have a nasal spray as well.

better to breathe properly and get a good night's sleep than to keep waking up because of a stuffy nose.

Vix7 · 23/06/2010 11:22

Qn: is anyone here considering getting an elective scan? NHS only covers 2 scans and since i've already gotten both, i'm not gonna see the bub at all!

am half considering getting a 3D/4D scan. both to see the bub and also find out if it's a girl or boy.

has anyone tried the 3D scan?

PrivetDancer · 23/06/2010 11:38

yes I had a 3d scan with dd, it was lovely and she did actually look like the scan picture we got of her face when she was born

I will be having a 3D one with this baby at 28 weeks ish - seems wrong to have done it for DD and not for this one!

It's weird though - I imagined a continual scan in 3d, but actually they start with a normal US scan until they get a good position then switch to 3D when you'll just see a huge blur then there's a lot of dial twiddling to try and focus on what you're looking at. Then you just get odd flashes of clear 3D pictures if you're lucky!

So for people who don't want to know the sex - don't worry you won't accidentally see it if you tell them you don't want to know.

Vix7 · 23/06/2010 11:44

PrivatDancer where did you do your 3D scan and how much was it?

I'm sorely tempted to get it done. 1st baby nerves.

PrivetDancer · 23/06/2010 11:53

I went to the birth company in Harley Street, fees on that link, so cheapest is £200 for sonographer in the week.

DH and I are not both in London on the same days anymore so I'll probably go somewhere nearer where we live on a weekend this time.

PrivetDancer · 23/06/2010 12:00

I'll probably go here this time - it's quite a lot cheaper too!

rollerbaby · 23/06/2010 13:57

Tiany we should definitely hold that thought and see what happens nearer the time... ideally the other family would live next door but that's not exactly likely!!!

Rinnyx · 23/06/2010 15:53

Thanks for the lovely bump comments

Anyone else got their scan Friday?

Gaga82 · 23/06/2010 18:00

Thanks for hayfever advice. Nasal spray here I come!

dairymum · 23/06/2010 18:04

just been lurking for the last week or two. Great to hear of all the good scans. I've got mine tomorrow morning. Still haven't decided whether i want to find out sex!
RE hayfever, gp friend says nasal sprays are fine, and suggested piriton, or other chlorphenamine products.
dd1's school is having an Oscars evening next week and parents attending have to dress up nicely too. I have nothing suitable so will just have to make do with whatever i can find in the back of my wardrobe.

FourEyesGood · 23/06/2010 20:25

Had my scan this morning. The slightly bad news is that I have a low-lying placenta, currently covering the opening to my cervix. They told me that in 50% of cases like this it moves up as the uterus grows, but if it doesn't, I'll have to have a Caesarean. They'll give me another scan at 32 weeks to see if anything's changed. Really want a home birth again, and am quite scared of the idea of a Caesarean, but there's nothing I can do to shift that placenta - que sera sera, I suppose!

The good news is that the baby's fine and is developing well. The sonographer was certain that this baby's a girl, so I'm very pleased! Have told DS he'll have a little sister.

tiany · 23/06/2010 20:40

honeymoo sure we'll see how we go.. all feels like a long way off!!

Growing out of all my clothes.. i need to do more shopping

Is anyone else going to or been to St Georges Tooting? So far its been fine there but wondering if people know what its like for delivery etc?

bunnygirl80 · 24/06/2010 00:30

foureyes congrats on your girl. Hope your placenta moves up and away from the exit for you

rinny I have my scan on Friday. I'm starting to get a bit nervous about it now for some reason.

I haven't even started to think about childcare yet. DH's work have an arrangment where they will research nurseries for us and come up with a shortlist, then we just need to put LOs name down, which takes some of the hard work out of it. I just need to remind him to get it sorted out as we can only afford for me to take 6 months off (no mat pay here )and I don't really want to have to leave my baby in a box behind the reception desk

Booboobedoo · 24/06/2010 09:49

Morning!

FourEyesGood - congratulations on your girl.

tiany - not that helpful, but the only thing I know about the Antenatal Bit of St Georges is that the UK expert on Foetal Alcohol Syndrome is (or was) based there.

So if you're heavily into the gin you're going to the right place.

Seriously, though, I quite like St Georges, so far as one can like a hospital. It's a bit smaller and less intimidating than Kings.

Feeling knackered and cross this morning for no particular reason. I hate pregnancy mood-swings. They make me feel so out of control. Anyone else feeling hormonal and want to keep me company?

comtessa · 24/06/2010 10:52

Hi all, it's been a while. Last Tuesday everyone in my organisation (13 offices nationwide) got paid ten days early. By 4pm we were told that all the papers had been signed and we were in administration. The following day we were told we had to be out of the office by yesterday, so have been working non-stop since then. So tired today, but on the bright side, now I have plenty of time to recover - inbetween job-hunting, aargh.

Anyway, TMI alert, but does anyone else suffer from what I can only describe as crusty nipples? Especially in centre of nipple.
Grateful for any advice.

Also - fab dress alert: Look at www.bhs.co.uk/mall/productpage.cfm/bhsstore/23391/230324

I bought the aqua one yesterday (cheap retail therapy essential post-redundancy measure) and I love it. Also, as it's not maternity, can be worn in future too, and the handkerchief hemline means that even with a bump, the uneven hemline doesn't matter.

Enjoy! Hope everyone's got sunshine where they are xx
