Thanks!

WalkTheDog · 06/06/2010 17:08

afternoon all

Yoga class sounds good, nothing like that here, but was thinking of getting a new dvd - have an old video but it's got a few moves that I am not sure about doing while pg.

Anyone got any brilliant ideas for how to relieve wind? Been suffering badly since last evening. TMI - doesn't help that not been my regular self the last 24 hours. OH luckily just laughs with my newly acquired burping skills, but could do with improving the lower down the system release IYKWIM!

DuelingFanjo · 06/06/2010 18:46

I've been eating prunes, causes a bit more wind to start with but then creates and effective release Also lemon in warm water.

bebsy75 · 06/06/2010 19:03

Hi all

Well and truly sick of sick! Cyclizine definitely takes the edge off but I'm still puking at night. Still, I do feel like my will to live is returning and my energy levels are a little bit higher in the mornings.

Am now 10+3 and absolutely desperate for the scan. Had a miscarriage last time so just willing the baby to hang on in there until the magic 12 week mark.

Reassuring to read that lots of people are starting to feel better after 12 weeks so hoping I will too. These have got to be the longest weeks ever!

RaceyLacey · 06/06/2010 19:49

Thanks DF. Wasn't something I'd looked into. I've heard nothing about mine so my risk must be low, although I really don't think I'd hae gone for an amnio anyway.

WTD - you've found a common pregnancy symptom I'm afraid. I warned DP about it before we started trying!

I'm so unbelievably tired. I've slept on and off most of the day and when Ihave ben awake I've been really out of sorets.

emma2617 · 06/06/2010 20:52

WTD oh the wind! I suffer terribly and I HATE the not burping variety! So i release all mine through burping during the day...god knows what happens when I'm asleep!

I am trying to find something everyday to make the week go quicker to get to my scan on 14th! I have got Monday, Friday and the whole weekend sorted...just need to try and find something for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday!

Wholelottalove I feel your pain with early rising children! DS woke up at 5.30am, fortunately went back at 8.15 for 2.5 hours!! He did sleep in until 9 when it was my turn last weekend so I guess I can't grumble too much!

Wholelottalove · 06/06/2010 21:11

emma my scan is on the 14th too. We can wait together

I am 12 + 2 now, and I think I will tell people at work if they ask tomorrow, which I suspect they will as I am getting more of a bump every day. Otherwise I'll wait until after the scan.

OnlyWantsOne · 07/06/2010 07:08

Morning all, Im sitting here consuming a bucket of tea and a packet of hobnobs.

Busy old day - now 14+5

Have to take cats to vets, she's being spayed (I feel so guilty).

DP left for work at 5am and woke DD up in the process - grrr

How are you all, does any one have their bump yet?

Persnickety · 07/06/2010 08:19

Mornin!

My scan is also on the 14th. Let's hope it's a day of good news all around.

I remember when I was pregnant with DD (my first) and the antenatal classes were set up so the there were 5 of them, and dad's were mean to join for the 2nd and 4th classes. The classes for mums only were during the day and the ones where the all important working men were to join were in the evening. I was so that I looked at the midwife who was explain this to me and said "That's a bit sexist" and then she looked that I had such such a thing. I was working contract at the time so was not entitled to paid time off for classes. I went to the evening classes and the one that was on pain relief. Skipped the other two. It is outrageous that the NHS thinks women's jobs are less important than men's.

But, speaking of antenatal classes, I am in two minds about whether to go this time. I don't think they'll tell me anything I don't already know. And much of it will be about preparing for labour and natural birth choices, neither of which interests me in the slightest. But, it would be nice to meet other mums who are having babies at C&W around the same time. I suppose I better hurry up and decide.

crazykat · 07/06/2010 08:22

Morning everyone.

Baby was good on friday for the second scan, nuchal fold measuring 1.3mm. Will get results of blood test in the next couple of weeks.

Had a great weekend, took the DC's to the park on sat to feed the ducks and get some fresh air. They were absolutely exhausted when we got home, just managed to get them to eat some dinner before bed.

Lovely DS woke up at 5:30 this morning, felt like joining him with the crying as I was having a really nice sleep now it's a bit cooler. I love the warm weather but it stops me sleeping properly.

RaceyLacey · 07/06/2010 09:21

Morning, suffering with hayfever here, and getting this pregnancy rhinitis quite badly too. Keepig poor dp awake at night with my snoring . Off to the docs I think to try some different antihistimines as the ones I used last year don't seem to be touching it this time. But vicks did work quite well for the rhinitis last night.

Ante-natal classes here are usually only offered to 1st timers, but the mw offered them to us as it's dp's 1syt time, and he's really keen to do them. They're all evening ones, and you get a tour of the hospital and mw unit too. (Hopefully won't need to know what they look like if all goes to plan & I don't go over too far). Will be good though to meet others due around the same time as me, did them with ds1 but felt a bit of an outcast as I was only 21 and everyone else was in their 30's and none of them talked to me

miffster Biparietal diameter is the width of your baby's head. The top of baby's head is made up of the frontal, left and right parietals and the occipital bone. I'm not sure why they take that measurement except that it may be to check for things like microcephaly (small head) or brachycephaly (long head). I admit I'm only making an educated guess here as my knowledge comes from my experience of skeletons in archaeology.

Everyone who has had scans, what is it like? I have my first one on Thursday and I'm really excited and really nervous at the same time.

notso · 07/06/2010 09:30

Morning all,
Decided not to go to work as was up at four being sick, and couldn't face being bitten etc while feeling so drained, I have a doctors appointment for tomorrow, I think I may have to bite the bullet and take the meds.
I am twelve weeks on Wed and so far there is no let up in the sick and I think it's starting to affect my teeth.
I am also suffering from wind or 'terrible burps' as my DS says
Scan on Weds afternoon hooray, looking forward to it, DH is coming too.
RaceyLacey sorry you had such a bad holiday. I am also not a fan of the tourer caravan, when we borrow PILs I sleep in the tent. DH is 6"4 and takes up all the room!
My tummy is definately sticking out more although I fear I just look fatter than ever rather than pg, although one of the Mums from school told me I looked like I had lost weight last week.

Hope everyone is feeling well and these scans come around quickly.

NickiSue · 07/06/2010 09:37

persnickety Thats a pain! We aren't bothering this time, having attended all the local NHS local classes last time, the thing that stood out the most was the hour+ sat on the hardest most uncomfortable seats ever inflicted on a pregnant woman lol! Good for first timers as we got hospital info etc and got told things we wouldn't have thought to ask, but this time, will spend the time more constructively..... probably on here!

I hope evryone who hasnt had a scan yet finds the date comes around soon. I've had mine and find it incredible I have my 20wk scan for the 23rd July booked in, half way then- goes so quick in some ways and so slow in others lol!

Did everyone have a good weekend? Ours was manic so am suitably knackered today but DS is back at preschool this afty so I might have a sneaky nap then to catch up lol, at least it's cooler!

emma2617 · 07/06/2010 09:51

racey I was 21 when I fell pregnant with DS and I suffered from terrible snobbery too! I don't understand why when he was planned, we were settled and in a loving relationship...what made them so different? Apart from 10+ years older?! I still get quite annoyed about it!

We won't be doing ante-natal classes this time although they were incredibly useful last time and I would definately reccommend them, they told us a lot about what interventions they may have to make and showed us the equipment...in the end I needed them all so it was much less scary knowing what they were doing! The hospital tour is a must though as the last thing you want when in the throws of labour is arguments about which way you're meant to go and which door you're meant to be using, especially if it is in the middle of the night, and in December it will be blardy freezing!!! We are having this bambino at a different hospital so I will be doing a hospital tour...even though I'm hoping for an elective section!!

wholelottalove and persnickety scan buddies! It seems ages away doesn't it?!

SlightlyTired · 07/06/2010 10:49

Hi all. Persnickety, I cannot believe that your antenatal classes were during the day. That is appalling. I get annoyed enough by the fact that all the exercise classes and toddler swimming classes etc in my area are during the day on weekdays (spare a thought for the working mummies please!) but at least I could do my antenatal classes on Monday nights.

Don't think I will do them this time around though. I have heard good things about active birth classes, which I might do just to meet people.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I mostly did except for a pregnancy melt down on Saturday - my poor DH thinks I am even more of a psycho than he did before. Had to make pudding for 10 people for Saturday night. Normally not a problem - I love to cook. But EVERYTHING I touched went wrong. The custard split, the tart case fell apart, the meringue collapsed...after a full day of cooking and many tears I finally managed to produce enough - but my God I must have got through about 2 dozen eggs! I am really worried I am losing my cooking mojo. In my last pregnancy I lost the ability to play Scrabble. Am I going to lose a faculty for each child I have???!

japhrimel · 07/06/2010 11:10

Had my 12-week scan today and it was such a relief to see everything was okay. Pip was wriggling around like mad at first so the sonographer had to stop for a bit and wait for Pip to calm down so she could do the nuchal measurement. Then Pip was lying right on the membrane so the sonographer was really pushing on my tummy trying to get Pip to move a little bit to check the measurements!

Nuchal measurement was 1.2mm, which is good, right?

It was amazing how much detail we saw, like Pip sucking her thumb. Sooooo relieved now (after 2 MCs, I get really nervous).

LLKH - make sure you leave quite a bit of time for the scan if you're having the NT measurements. Not only might you have to wait or go and empty your bladder before they can get good measurements, but you then get bloods taken to get the combined result. We've been told that if we don't hear within 72 hours, it's good news.

notso · 07/06/2010 11:26

Thats lovely news japhrimal SlightlyTired I have also lost the ability to cook. We went out for tea yesterday and DS said wistfully, "when will you cook us nice food again Mummy?" He made me cry!

RaceyLacey · 07/06/2010 14:55

I've been referred for consultant care for being fat.

OP posts:
notso · 07/06/2010 15:02

Eh, you're not fat though Racey, surely you just have a big bump.

RaceyLacey · 07/06/2010 15:13

No notso I'm not, but I do have a bmi of 30. The mw put my bmi down as 29, but when I was weighed & measured at the hospital that must have triggered something to get me put under consultant care. I see my mw in a couple of weeks so I'm going to have a chat with her then.

Even at my 'normal' weight as a size 8/10 I still have a bmi of about 27 or 28 which puts me in the 'overweight' bracket.

Hopefully my mw will be able to change that, or the consultant will take one look at me and realise that all this bmi stuff is rubbish!

OP posts:
RaceyLacey · 07/06/2010 15:15

It's upset me a bit actually, I normally laugh about it especially when I see my little fat 'mii' on the wii, and say how silly it is, but I've kinda taken it a little bit to heart.

OP posts:
Persnickety · 07/06/2010 15:42

Oh they are surely having a laugh. How can you wear a size 8/10 and be fat?

However, I would be quite happy with being referred to consultant care. They are the experts after all.

Does this complicate your birth choices any? (Persnickety runs off to check stat thread to see if you are a hopeful home birther)... Oh... You are! Well, then, say "Hi nice to meet you" when you see the consultant. And then say, "You know the midwife said I was fat? Isn't that the silliest thing you ever heard. The truth is... now listen carefully because it's a secret... I'm pregnant. Now, let's talk about my home birth. Are you going to be there? No? Oh, okay, then how bout you refer me back to the people who do attend home births? Thanks very much. Ta ta."

japhrimel · 07/06/2010 16:03

RaceyLacey - that's just daft. Are you very fit? If you're very muscular, the normal BMI calculation will not work for you. When I was in training for yacht racing and skiing years ago, my BMI always came out as overweight, but I didn't have an ounce of excess fat on me. Muscle is denser than fat, which is why it skews the calculation.

Even so, BMI isn't considered an issue in pregnancy normally till it's over 35. My BMI came out as 31 (I've put on loads of weight with health problems over the last few years) and my MW said that was fine. And I'm down for a homebirth too!

WhatWillSantaBring · 07/06/2010 17:08

Oh my, if they refer everyone with BMIs of 30+ for consultant lead care they would bring the NHS down, surely!

I'm sulking because even though I'm a pretty standard size 12, i had to buy a men's LARGE wetsuit on Saturday. What a joke! The women's large was microscopic- if I'd still been a size 10 I may have just got in it, but I'd hardly call 5'7 and a size 10 "large"!

I'm under consultant led care anyway after a cone biopsy on my cervix last year, so I wonder if he'll mention that my BMI is not 30+ (which it is as a result of gaining 7lbs in the first 11 weeks!).

OWO Do NOT feel guilty for getting your cat spayed. I did quite a bit of research into this last year after some issues with stray cats, and, unless you have an indoor cat that you are going to breed from, it is, absolutely the right thing to do. Un-spayed females get hounded by toms and can get chased so far that they end up losing their way, which is how stray colonies get started. So its actually fairer to get a cat spayed if its an outdoor cat, IMHO.

Persnickety and WLL - my scan is the day after yours. Still ages away!

ST - I do hope losing your cooking mojo is not a pg related thing! My cheesecakes turned out alright on Saturday so I'm hoping mine hasn't gone AWOL.
