Hiya, noticed we were getting a bit full, so here's thread no.2

I have been reading all your news, but not having time to post really.

Fordypops, hope things are ok and mw can reassure you tomorrow and get your scan moved forward.

OWO - your hb plan sounds great. Not for me personally, but I'm sure everyone will respect the need for the mw to have space. At the end of the day mum & baby are the most important people and whatever you are happy with is best imo.

We only spoke briefly about where I want the baby when mw was here the other day, but she seemed fine with me wanting a hb. If I do need to be induced or things are tricky then hospital is only 5mins away. ds2 was 1hr 45mins from 1st contraction so hb makes more sense than anything else, and I was desperate to get home with both so don't want to be stuck in mw unit (in the hospital). The only thing I'm scared about is my waters breaking! They didn't break with ds1 until I was fully dilated & with ds2 the mw broke them after he was delivered. I'm so scared of being in the queue in Tesco or something when they go.

fordypops hope you are ok. Take it easy and rest up until you can speak to the Midwife.

Thanks for starting the new thread RaceyLacey. I want to hold off going to the hospital for as long as possible. If all goes well I want to have as little intervention as possible but I know being in Hospital can mean there will be more intervention.

Wholelottalove · 16/05/2010 19:53

Wow racey that's fast! I'm hoping for a swift one with this one - once I finally got into established labour it was 4 hours for DD (but about 30 hours from 1st contraction :
( )

Thanks for the new thread

fordypops hope you are ok and get to speak to midwife. Easy to say but try to relax.

DF a friend recently had her 1st and made it to 8cms at home using a tens machine. I'm thinking of trying one this time.

crazykat · 17/05/2010 07:19

The actual birth is the bit that worries me most. I'm hoping to get through without any pain relief this time - I got to 7cm both times before G&A and had pethedine with DD. Hopefully the last two stages will be quick this time too.

Wholelottalove I thought about tens with DS but worriied that I'd use it wrong. Are they easy to use?

mumatron · 17/05/2010 07:24

fordy hope you are ok this morning.

dueling with my 1st i managed to stay home until 7 cm with no pain relief, so it is poss. the new birthing unit is supposed to be lovely at uhw.

with dd i had to go straight in when waters went as there was meconium in them. i will def be staying home for a while with this one, but i want to make sure i have time to get in the pool if poss so wont be leaving it too long. with dd i went from 5cm to fully dilated in the time it took for the mw to take her hand out for examining me. wasn't a pleasant experience.

not much to report here. still tired and sicky. mainly when i'm hungry though, so a good excuse to snack lots.

deepblue · 17/05/2010 07:51

I used tens last time and it's really easy to use. Even for a labouring woman lol. That and a bath was the only pain relief I had. It doesn't do anything at all inthe second stage though. The pads slipped off due to being all sweaty and was giving me electric shocks on top of everything else. I'd really recommend them anyway. You can rent them fairly cheaply and if it means you get to stay home a little bit longer and be a little more comfortable i think it's totally worth it.

fordypops · 17/05/2010 07:59

hey lovelies,

Well there wasn't much bleeding over night but more this morning when i went to the loo. I am trying not to worry but thats easier said than done. It's more of a browny red than bright red so I am hoping thats a good sign but we shall just have to wait and see. Only an hour to wait until I can call the midwife.

Thanks for all your thoughts and messages xxx

heading4home · 17/05/2010 08:31

thanks for starting new thread RaceyLacey!

I am 11 weeks now and waiting hopefully for the nausea to stop . No luck yet, felt so awful on the bus to work I thought I was going to have to get off.

Had a good cry on my husband about the maternity leave situation yesterday and he really gave me some hope that I WON'T have to come back full time after 16 weeks. That glimmer of hope is enough for me to hold onto and I feel a lot more excited about the whole thing today.

I am having the nuchal fold scan tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing the bean again. Will be asking OB about home birth but pretty sure it's not allowed here - I've never heard of one. My dd's birth was an induction with no pain relief whatsoever, a truly awful experience.

Wholelottalove · 17/05/2010 09:14

Morning all. Well, I have day off work and just got back from taking DD to nursery. Would normally have her with me on a Monday but I am feeling so rough I think she's better off there - at least the staff will be awake! Just trying to keep some food down for a bit then I'm off to bed.

crazykat - I've never used one and I've read really varying reports about them. Some people say they're great, others that they are useless, but my friend getting to 8cms with her first with one has made me wonder if worth trying. Depends on money a bit as we may hire or buy a birth pool too if I stay at home.

heading4home - really glad to hear you may be able to work something out. I went back to work before I was ready with DD for financial reasons and I found it tough going. Good luck for the scan and asking about HB. Hope the sickness starts to ease for you soon - I'm 9+3 so not holding out much hope things will ease for another couple of weeks.

fordy hope you've managed to get hold of m/w and she can put your mind at rest. I dont have much experience, but I think from reading others that brown blood is old blood and not as worrying as bright red blood.

JodieO · 17/05/2010 09:18

I wondered why the other thread had gone quiet, I don't know how but I totally missed your link to the new one lol.

I posted on there about my previous labours and how fast they were but that a hb is not really an option for me.

I used tens with my first but I hated it, for a year afterwards I got little tingling up and down my spine and it was horrid. I used some gas and air too, for about an hour or so and then nothing else. With ds1 I had about 20 mins or so of gas and air and then nothing, 2 hours of pushing! Ds2 nothing, they told me to use gas and air while they were trying to put a clip on his head (as his heart rate dipped) but they tried 5 times (different people with their hands inside me...) but couldn't get it on. That hurt more than anything! No pain relief after that though, was about 5/10 mins of the gas and air for the procedure.

He was op and it was the most painful by far.
I had really fast labours but no tears or stitches etc so I'm really worried that my luck will have worn out by now! I hate needles and anything medical so I'm petrified.

WalkTheDog · 17/05/2010 11:15

Morning all

How did the MW call go fordypops,? RaceyLacey* maybe Tescos will give you a free shop if your waters break there!

good news re work heading4home. Hope scan goes well tomorrow

I am a physio (not working since we moved) and I would recommend giving TENS a go, you can rent and even buy one quite cheaply now.

Home birth would suit me, but as we stay so far from the hosp it isn't worth the risk to me or baby, and OH would be far to freaked.

I know the MW will probably shake her head when we discuss birth plans, I don't trust most docs to do an epidural (just because of lot of post natal mums I have seen through work) and I will only have a CSection as a proper emergancy, as if I can't drive I will be very isolated and have great difficulty with our two dogs. And I only want to be in hospital for the delivery and leave ASAP - hate hospitals. But bet the plan goes out the window!!!

Feeling less sick that yesterday, OH brought home loads of goodies with ginger yesterday which helps. Wondering about my sanity - burst into tears while eating my brekkie this morning - for no reason, passed very quickly.

Persnickety · 17/05/2010 11:42

Hi everyone. Have had another miserable weekend of Migraine Hell. I hate this so much. I can't decide whether to scream, cry, or just cut my head off. It's getting a better now, but I still have a little bir of the headache thaqt started on Friday. I am going to a cranio sacral (or whatever it's called) therapist this afternoon. I have no idea if it will help, but I am willing to try just about anything.

I don't remember the migraines being this bad in previous pregnancies. But, perhaps, I have just forgotten.

And my other problem is that my trousers are too bloody tight. I tried to look for some maternity clothes in town during lunch last week. But, I can't find anyone who carries work maternity clothes for short people.

Hope everyone is well and all this bleedinng people are having stops very soon.

I haven't updates stats for a while, but I'll try to do it later today.

Persnickety · 17/05/2010 12:07

Oh. I forgot to ask, is anyoneone else thirsty all the time? I' definitely don't remember this one from previous pregnancies. I think I drank the entire Atlantic over the weekend.

TheChangeSpiral · 17/05/2010 12:18

Hello everyone

Sorry I haven't contributed in such a long time but I have been trying to read as much as I can. I've spent the last couple of weeks on friends' sofas in Bristol but back in Amersham with DH and in-laws now. Nice to be back & being looked after.

Big hugs to all the people worried about bleeding. I've now had two bleeds, which were both very worrying at the time but everyone I've spoken to says it's really common and not necessarily anything to fret about.

The last couple of weeks have been horrendous physically and emotionally though. The nausea reached a new peak I never knew possible without actually throwing up, I was so tired that 12 hours sleep wasn't enough to get me out of bed before midday, dizzy spells, breathlessness, random crying, sore boobs, toilet visits every 10 minutes. It's official - being pregnant is HORRIBLE! Fortunately I seem to be feeling a little better the last few days touch wood and long may it last!

notso · 17/05/2010 12:33

Hello all, like the nice new thread!

RaceyLacey My waters with DD broke with a little pop then a teeny tiny trickle, I thought I wet myself a bit, nothing like the tidal wave I was expecting.
Can't even remember with DS, think the midwife did it.
If they go in B&Q you get vouchers, it said in Pg and Baby magazine!

Wholelottalove I hated TENS but my friend loved it, she used it until she got in the birthing pool.

fordypops Hope all is well, have you had any luck with the Midwife?

heading4home sounds like good news for you on the work front, hope all is well with the scan, I have my first one tomorrow after a bleed on Friday.

Wholelottalove hope you have a nice relaxing not too sicky day.

JodieO you never know you might have another quick one. My labours have got longer, 19 hours from 1st contraction with DD and 3 nights of contractions stopping during the day followed by 31 hours for DS. Hope this ones a bit quicker.

WTD thats lovely of your OH. I am emotional at the moment too, cried at DS this morning pretending to be an abandoned Dog from Dogs Trust!

Persnickety realy feel for you with the migraines, thankfully mine are period related so pregnancy is respite.Hope the thearapist can help.
Right with you with the trousers, the bobble I have been using on mine snapped not buying anything until twelve weeks scan is done though, so am wandering round with my button and zip undone, luckily not in work.

emma2617 · 17/05/2010 12:36

Morning Ladies!! I am just popping in to reaquaint myself, I have been noseying every now and then! I have my second scan tomorrow morning to check on the size of the yolk sack, I am really hoping it has normalised.

I was in hospital last week, totally unrelated, with suspected gall stones...and I am only 23!! Then a funeral for my little boys godfater who died the day before his 29th birthday, then training for Slimming World!

I have been feeling seriously rough recently though, just not able to eat ANYTHING despite being starving! Also been feeling really dizzy, but when I was in hospital my blood pressure got down to 79/43 at one point so I am thinking it could be blood pressure related!

I will hopefully be back tomorrow to confirm all is okay fingers crossedOWO Your homebirth sounds lovely....I wish I could keep my potty mouth under control to make that possible for me!! Although I will (hopefully) be having an elective setion this time!

fordy hope the MW is able to reassure you!!

Racey I noticed there was speculation about twins...any news?!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Wholelottalove · 17/05/2010 12:44

Lol notso I'll remember to hang round b&q if we want to get some DIY done and I go overdue!

My sister rang and woke me from my nap, grrr. I'm supposed to be finishing some work but all I can be bothered to do is surf the net and east sweets.

spiral I was wondering how you were the other day. Sorry to hear you've been feeling so rough but glad things seem to be improving.

persnickety - try this - get a hair band and feed it through your trouser button hole, then back through itself and pull tight so there's a loop iyswim, then pull across and over your button hole. Pop a long top over and no-one will notice. Or buy some of these www.birthease.co.uk/birthease_shop/Belly-Belt.shtml - hair bands are a bit cheaper mind you! You could try online for petite mat clothes too? I've been feeling thirsty, but also sick so thought could be dehydration.

notso · 17/05/2010 12:55

Me too Wholelottalove I would use them swiftly on plastic sheets for the homebirth

Nice to see you spiral and emma. Persnickety I am uber thirsty too, currently lime and soda is my tipple of choice, I'm going through three bottles of soda a day.

Miffster · 17/05/2010 13:52

Good call with new thread, the other one was long and daunting though I did read all the last 8 pages at the weekend. Higs to everyone who is worrying, bleeding, puking, retching, headaching and generally battling through the first trimester.

Am so damn tired that I want to sleep at my desk and I am quite irritated my boss does not seem to grasp the fact that first trimester is HARD. Her sister is 8 wks and apparently 'fine'. The other girl who is pg here is a slim size 8, 6 months pg and blooming. She had heaps of time off in first trimester, but explained it as a 'rare blood problem': to me though she confided it was mainly extreme fatigue.

I wish she's explained the real reason to my boss because it would make it much easier for me to say why i am so tired I could cry.

Boobs extremely painful as well, especially first thing in the morning. And yes, thirsty - drinking loads and weeing loads.

Worried the tiredness, weeing and thirst are signs of diabetes.

again about that.

Persnickety · 17/05/2010 13:52

I hate to spoil the fun, but I think the vouchers for waters breaking is an urban myth. I can't imagine B&Q (or Mothercare or anyone else)would want to attract a bunch of pregnant women who are about to pop to come hang out in their store. I think you are probably more likely to get a bill for the clean-up.

Miffster · 17/05/2010 13:53

Higs, I mean hugs

eek.

TheChangeSpiral · 17/05/2010 13:56

Thanks Wholelottalove & notso - it's good to be back!

I agree, lime & soda is wonderful

TheChangeSpiral · 17/05/2010 14:17

Miffster I'd quite like to punch your boss right now (I blame the hormones). I take it she hasn't been pregnant then? I hope she realises one day just how awful it can be. Mind you, I had absolutely no idea just how debilitating the exhaution would be before it happened to me.

I was talking to a friend last night and joking that a few short weeks after getting all excited about being pregnant I'm starting to wonder if it was all such a good idea. She actually said to me: well what did you expect? Bloody cheek - I'll remind her of that when it's her turn!

notso · 17/05/2010 14:24

Definately read about B&Q in Prima Baby and pregnancy mag, I know that Boots giving you free stuff is a myth though.
My SIL's waters broke in a pub and someone bought her a pint

Poor you Miffster, I'm sure your tiredness, weeing and thirst are just tiredness, weeing and thirst. Sorry your boss is being an arse, and hope the tiredness eases.

notso · 17/05/2010 14:26

Spiral I like to pretend my lime and soda has vodka in when I'm feeling really shit!
