Oh and Wednesday was a momentous occasion - someone gave up their seat for me on the tube! I was admittedly wearing very bump-accentuating clothes.

DF I know it must be really difficult but try not to worry. They would want to let you know as soon as possible if there really was anything wrong.

OK.

Well ... they say my risk for my age would be 1/77 but the risk after the Nuchal fold test and bloods is 1/80. I've been told that the consultant would expect this baby to be 'healthy' just from the very good scan I had but that they have to report it as high risk. Thing is I was high risk anyway because I am 40.

I need to discuss this with my DH and then call back to arrange to speak to the consultant who will be able to answer any questions.

Not sure what to do now. felt like they were on the one hand encouraging me to have the amnio (With them at £400 rather than NHS) but on the other they kept stressing the scan was very good.

I feel like it is just my age that has kept me at a high risk and so therefore, as i thought, the Nuchal scan was a big fat waste of £180.

If I do have the Amnio I will do it on the NHS.

Dueling I'm really sorry you have results that weren't as reassuring as expected. Did they give you a risk based on the scan alone and then one with the bloods? I was very lucky that my result was v low risk, 1:2016 or something, but the funny thing was even though my blood results were apparently good Downs risk didn't change (although the Edwards & Patau were lower) - apparently that was as low as a result as I was going to get with my age (39; my age risk was 1:101) so it must be a big factor. I guess what I mean is, there is probably a minimum risk that you can get for a given age, but I would have thought it could have come down lower. Can you ask the consultant what was the factor(s) that brought you to 1:80? I'm sure he is right that a good scan means you're very likely to have a completely normal and healthy baby.

Dueling sounds like it was good for your age, but sounds like you need to know more to decide whether to have amnio. Best wishes for whatever you decide to do.
ggg, e-bay is great for maternity stuff isn't it! I missed Somerset when I went away to uni, but we're definitely settled here now, wouldn't want to live anywhere else! Your sacn is the same day as mine, I think alot of us have scans next week, so looking forward to seeing little baby again, but also nervous about nuchal etc.
Lbella, sounds like it'd be good if you could work up a job share with your colleague, your employers would find that hard to turn down. I'm not sure what I'll do after mat leave - I currently do 30hrs over 4 days, but until recently did 24hrs over 3 days, would rather go back to 3 days but I know my employers would prefer me to do 4. But 3 was best until dd started school. Lots to think about.

Oh DF, I'm sos orry for all your stress. I would ask for a CVS because it can be done now rather than waiting until 20 weeks for amnio... and then you have to wait for results so youdon't really get to make a decision until the baby is practically viable. This all depends though on whether you would make a dcecision or if you would carry on with the pregnancy no matter what the outcome.

I am so terrified of the same thing happening on Mondy. This is one reason I am going for a privtate scan. I will get bloods and scan combined result before I leave the clininc... and then I will go to the NHS one later in the day already knowing what my result is. If the reading is not comforting, I will ask for the CVS as soon as I set foot in C & W on Monday.

Oh, how distressing for you. Am so sorry.

Lavita, you probably know this, but if you go back to work at the end of 6 months (althought this might have changes since my last baby 5 years ago) they have to give you back the job you left. If later, they have to give you a comparable one (and comparable usually does not involve a pay cut). You have a right to request flexible working, but if they can present a business case on why it's not to the advantage of the business, they can decline it. However, I think your idea of asking other pregnant manager about a job share is an excellent one because if you both request flexible working at the same time and work out the details amongst yourselves they will have a harder time declining it.

They can of course pay you less for part time, but only proportion to the cut in hours.

Hope this is somewhat helpful and not just stuff you already know.

Am interested to know what restaurant now. I'm not too far from Chiswick and would love to pop in and see you. We could have a meet up.
