walkthedog - Hehe I'm sure there is something to the pregnancy brain thing as I feel so different, really foggy a lot of the time and I struggle to remember things... Not so good about the dog, poor thing and poor you for having to clear it up. Our cats bring in mice...and birds..

Miffster - What week do they class as 2nd trimester? Is it 12+ or 13+? I'm 11+5 today, nearly 12 weeks!!! I still can't believe I've got this far after miscarriages, maybe that's why it still feels so surreal to me. I was the same earlier on in the pregnancy, couldn't stop eat sweets or anything really but then it stopped and I'm still not really eating much. Lost about 8 pounds so far but I'm sure that'll start getting put back on again soon enough. I've been drinking milk too but also cheese, I LOVE cheese so much, love a good strong cheddar.

Persnickety - Each to their own, it won't do you any harm to carry on taking the folic acid and I wasn't saying that I'm a professional, just talking on the reading I've done during and before pregnancies, I read too much about pregnancy I swear hehe. It's good to have people saying different things imo, no point in everyone just saying the same or else noone would ever be any different, if you see what I mean!

mumatron · 10/06/2010 20:12

evening all, have ben lurking around for the last few days, just too tired to post.

good to hear about scans. got my nuchal on wed. 9pm appt could of booked in for one day the week after but want to get it done tbh. i need to start telling people as i'm getting pretty big.

i'm feeling movement s too. very smal flutterings but defo there.

oh, and i'm with the rest of you with pg brain. i cleaned up the kitchen earlier, sprayed a bit of air freshner, opened the back door and sprayed the garden aswell

also tried to take a plate out of the oven with no oven glove. not good.

Wholelottalove · 10/06/2010 20:17

Hi all and a big welcome to newbies

fun - I am a bit at your employer. This sounds like harrassment to me and I would look into your rights. You should not have to put up with your boss giving you grief because you are pregnant or trying to persuade you to take a certain length of mat leave. I am quite cross on your behalf.

I've had a bit of a rubbish day. Had some pink spotting at work and freaked out a bit. Went to docs and it is apparently a cervical erosion and nothing to worry about, but she also took a swab and wee sample to send off for testing too. She had a go with doppler at listening to heartbeat but couldn't find anything. I'm desperate for Monday and scan to come now so I can see the baby wriggling around.

OnlyWantsOne · 10/06/2010 20:27

JodieO Ive added you on facebook - Polly Mes Meric ladies - if any one else wanted to add me

JodieO · 10/06/2010 20:49

I just got my old doppler out and managed to find the heartbeat!! I'm sooo relieved and happy now, was getting worried about the scan next week but feeling so much better now. Wow, we heard our little baby's heartbeat!

mumatron - lol at spraying the garden. Was your hand ok? Ouch. I'm biggish too now, I've seen some people look and notice but not say anything, polite I guess hehe.

wholelotta - How are you feeling now? Spotting must have been worrying for you. I tried for ages to find the heartbeat just now so I wouldn't worry about that, I was literally just about to give up when I heard it and it was higher up that I thought it was be. I hope your scan goes well on Monday.

OWO - Just seen and accepted

mumatron · 10/06/2010 21:08

jodie i have been thinkin of getting a doppler. where did you get yours?

Chooster · 10/06/2010 21:17

Evening all! gorgeous sunny night up here after a few pretty cold / wet days.

Good to see some new faces on here. How high was the nuchal Jan?

Great to hear some positive scan news and am sure there'll be loads more over the next few days. I've got my next one on Wednesday when I'll be 16 weeks. Hopefully all is still well . I'll be having an amnio then as well which I'm not massively looking forward to. I had a cvs last time and even though its not meant to hurt I have to say I did find it pretty painful.

I'm also having some strange eating behaviour. I've gone off normal food totally and can't face 'dinners', all I've been having is cereal, crumpets, yogurts and bacon sarnies! Quite nice really but not really balanced. I posted on here on Tues that the sickness was going and I was feeling better but then I go home that evening and DH was frying garlic! I had to run to the bathroom to be sick.... Yuk... Surely soon it will go totally.

I know 3 people who have been advised to take baby aspirin - all with blood clotting issues or recurring miscarriages. I dont think it will do any harm as its such a low dosage. I've read that some people think half an aspirin a day is good for every one!

Anyway better head off... DS1 is still getting up out of bed, first a sore knee, then thumb, then a wee... wonder what next. Also I was in a different office today and wearing a maternity maxi dress that accentuated the bump I have and 3 people asked about the baby . I've not even told the people I work beside who I think are just being too polite to say anything .

LittleB · 10/06/2010 21:31

I've been off work today with a horrible cold, cough, etc and feel much better for having had a rest. I am so glad that i'm not as sick with this pg as I was with dd, part of my job involves litter picking and emptying rubbish and dog bins. The smell of stale lager and bbq's reall turns my stomach now. I've completely gone of anything slightly overcooked, even brown cheese on lasagna, also can't face my usual peppermint tea and muesli - its weird isn't it? Have cravings for fruit and fruit juice though, also sweet things like cheesecake which we're not allowed, although dh bought some baked cheesecake which is ok thankfully!
I heard that taking folic acid beyond 30 weeks can increase the risk of childhood asthma, study done in Australia I think, don't have the details but will be going with my mw advice to stop taking it between 12-14 weeks. I've also been told it can reduce blood pressure, low blood pressure was a problem for me in my last pregnancy so thats useful for me to know.
I've bought 2 pairs of really nice maternity jeans and some combats and tops off e-bay, I'm really pleased with them, saved me a fortune, although i did have to pay for a new maternity tankini and maternity bras, didn't fancy them 2nd hand.
Trying to research decent off road pushchairs now, not going to buy one just yet but like researching them! And washable nappies!

Lavitabella · 10/06/2010 21:43

LittleB I always think your job sounds very exciting minus the bins part. Where in the country are you?

Has anyone tried a maternity band that you wear over your trousers?

Wholelottalove · 10/06/2010 21:43

Thanks JodieO I feel fine now. Was relieved they found a cause for the spotting, but I was quite upset at work (embarrassed now, although no-one saw me bawling, I just sent a brief email to my boss and shot off). I know it's quite hard to find HB at this stage, so not too worried. That's great you found the HB with your doppler though, must've been a fab sound

Still being sick too, roll on next few weeks.

LittleB · 10/06/2010 22:06

It is an interesting job! I'm in Somerset, and I've been a ranger here for over 11 years now (and a couple of years voluntary before that) although I have changed teams from sites to rights of way and back again. I love the variety, and although I don't like doing the bins, I'd still rather be out doing them in the fresh air than in an office, although being in local governemt we still get a fair bit of paperwork, and I have been finding the more physical aspects of my job challenging now that I'm pg. Looking forward to all the childrens activities over the summer hols though, and having some time off with dd!
So looking forward to my scan next week and will be lovely to hear the heartbeat!
And so much for just looking, I have just brought 10 little lambs nappies from the mn for sale boards, i already have a couple and really like them so was looking for more!

Miffster · 10/06/2010 22:18

JodieO What To Expect When You're Expecting has the 14th week - which is week 13+0 - 13+6 - as the start of the 2nd trimester.

Lovely news about hearing heartbeats!

Am still taking folic acid, in fact my pg vitamin( Solgar) has it in and I take 400mg as well.

I have cravings for fruit - satsumas especially - in 1st trimester was going YUK at fruit. Now I want muesli, plain natural yogurt, endless pints of cold milk, fruit, baked potato skins, wholemeal bran bagels with peanut butter and marmite, and chicken, grilled lamb chops, cherry tomatoes and avocadoes.

all very healthy, apart from the random lemon tart slices I suddenly scoffed today.

Meanwhile have gone off: eggs, which I ate every day in first trimester, and cheese, which I also ate most days, in fact I mostly lived off egg on toast and cheese with crackers and the odd bacon sarndwich.

Mmm, milk, am off to buy more.

squistle · 11/06/2010 07:39

Well I was just looking at the details of the iron supplements she gave me and they also have folic acid in them so maybe that's why she told me to stop taking my other folic acid too........ It's also got vit c, vit b6, vit b12, zinc, copper, manganese as well as iron. I always thought that you stopped folic after 12 weeks too?

Been looking up baby asprin and pregnancy and it seems to be used quite a lot. It is a very low dose and nothing like 'normal' asprin. It seems it's not only for women who have miscarriages, but for people who would be a risk of pre-eclampsia too. It thins the blood and allows more blood to flow though the placenta to the baby as well.

OnlyWantsOne · 11/06/2010 08:23

BabyG, your partner isnt called Jack is he?

A few years ago... I knew a man called Jack who moved to Somerset to live with his ranger girlfriend, was quite sweet love story really awwww

I feel farkin sick and tired, urgh, 15 + 2

kiwi5 · 11/06/2010 08:46

Baby G - I am in Somerset too.

Chooster - totally know what you mean about not wanting proper meals. my poor husband is being very patient with my wierd meal decisions.

have come clean at work, such a relief not to have to worry about what top i can wear! they were all really lovely, a few people had guessed, so they felt very smug!

got a weekend away with friends, which will be lovely, plus the football - Come on England!!!

Miffster · 11/06/2010 09:29

Morning people
Do you think we need a new thread?
This is 30+ pages now!

japhrimel · 11/06/2010 09:58

NickiSue & JodieO - my boobs have stopped being too sore now, but they're still growing. I've gone from a C cup to FF already. I highly recommend Bravissimo if you're bigger boobed, for fitting and maternity bras.

Although you only need folic acid for the first 12 weeks to help prevent spina bifida, epilepsy, etc, it's best to carry on taking a safe supplement. Even if you take nothing else, you should take a vitamin D supplement, as you can't get it from diet.

LittleB · 11/06/2010 10:07

new thread sounds like a good idea. Will leave it to someone clever to do though as I never manage the links properly.
I see I've been name changed from littleb to baby g! Quite like baby g, but will stick with littleb as I've been that on mumsnet for almost 6yrs now!
Where in Somerset are you chhoster? I'm in South Somerset.
owo, no my partner isn't Jack, must be another ranger in Somerset!
I'm shoicked today to find I've been outed on facebook by someone I don't even know!. I told 4 mums at dd's school and dd, who had told a couple of friends, and I'm now the subject of gossip and everyone knows! I'm just surprised really, and was enjoying telling a couple of people at a time. Have been jointly outed with another mum, son in dd's class who is due in november. Also know two other mums of pupils in dd's class who are pregnant. Thats 4 out of 26 so far, must be a good year to have a baby, as long as its not too much of a baby boom year when they all start school and have nightmare getting them all in like I did with dd!

DuelingFanjo · 11/06/2010 10:27

I am really scared. Rang to get the Nuchal results and they say the blood test isn't back yet so now I am scared that they really are but they are bad and they need someone who knows what they are talking about to get back to me Waiting for them to call but it might not be until later.

Lavitabella · 11/06/2010 10:53

Duelling don't get ahead of yourself, NHS are very slow and they probably haven't got them back yet. Will be thinking of you [sending a hug]

Had my maternity risk assessment today, work have been very supportive over my pregnancy but have been told not to assume I'll be able to return part time without taking a pay cut no thanks!
Will have to wait and see though as I'll stand my ground if other people have done part time, I don't see why I can't!

DuelingFanjo · 11/06/2010 11:03

Thanks Lavitabella, though it's not the NHS we have to go private here in Cardiff.

That sounds crap about the job. Surely legally if you are doing the same job you would still get paid teh same hourly rate!?

Lavitabella · 11/06/2010 11:20

I am a general manager of a restaurant part of a large chain. So they could argue that I can't do my job properly in a 2/3 day capacity. I might have to work as an assistant manager. Know there is another manager close to me who is pregant too so am going to talk to her about job share, see how she feels.

GreenGeekGirl · 11/06/2010 11:39

LittleB & kiwi5 - Although I don't live in Somerset now I'm from the Quantocks and hoping to move back West, to Bristol very soon. I miss the West Country loads!

I'm 13+3 today and have finally got my first scan date for next Wednesday - hooray! Was really nervous that DH wouldn't get the time off work but he has too, which is another relief.

Foodwise I seem to have gone back to eating almost completely as I did before I was pregnant but probably a bit more than I did. And sometimes now I get random sweet cravings that I never got before. I definitely have a savoury tooth too usually.

I bought a couple of maternity bundles on ebay - so thanks to whoever it was that suggested that! They are brilliant and so cheap. I'm hoping I won't really have to buy any more now, although I'm sure I'll feel differently once I've worn them all to death.
