It's nice that it's scan time for everyone, they did my nuchal today as last week they had trouble seeing one twin properly. As soon as the sonographer turned on the picture you could see them there, face to face like they were playing together and their little arms were touching, it was so cute. They were bouncing up and down and were very active!

feeling very maternal and full of love

Thanks for the advice on the NCT, I've had a look and it seems I can go on a Tamba course for twin pregnancies and there is one in Chiswick, so I just need to chat with DP and get booked in.

Changespiral I understand completely about having blood taken, I absolutely hate it, and always feel dizzy and lightheaded. Both times I've had it done lately the midwifes have been really good and it was over very fast. Good luck

emma2617 · 04/06/2010 19:21

lavitabella that twin bond must be something incredibly special! Sounds so cute!

I got my scan appointment in the post...it was waiting for me when I got home!! It's on 14th June, so a week on monday when according to dates I will be 11+6! I'm so excited!

deepblue · 04/06/2010 19:31

Yay for everyone feeling better and seeing our bouncing babies! It's making me even more excited for our scan on Tuesday. Have to see my dad's family this weekend and I have no idea how to hide my rapidly growing belly from them. I have floaty tops but they seem to only accentuate it and can't really keep on wearing big jumpers in this lovely weather. Thank goodness it's only a few days until we can come clean.

DuelingFanjo · 04/06/2010 19:58

mumatron we're down by the Royal Oak pub off Broadway but I used to live in Gold Street by the police station - how funny. Maybe we'll end up at the same places... labour ward etc.

Back from the scan Nuchal fold measuring 2.44 and nasal bone present. We din't have Dr Beatie, though I think he was there when I arrived. It was a woman instead. Baby very relaxed - it had one hand behind it's head and the other in front of it's face and wouldn't budge when they needed it to. I keep calling it 'he' for some reason though there's no indication of sex and we'll probably not find out until the day. Just have to wait for the bloods but am itching to go public now.

japhrimel · 04/06/2010 20:13

TheChangeSpiral - you can ask to be laid back before they take blood which makes it far less likely you'll faint. Be warned that the pregnancy changes actually make it more likely you'll get faint - I'm normally fine but I got really dizzy when they took my bloods and the phlebotomist had to lay me back and get some water. She told to ask to be laid down before they start next time!

mumatron · 04/06/2010 20:34

dueling glad the scan went well. no idea on the nuchal measurment but i presume that its fine. can't belive we are so close to one another.

changespiral the mw who took my bloods was fab, made me lay down for it and stay there for 5 min after. i used to be terrified of needles but since i started my claxane shots it doesn't bother me.

moomaa · 04/06/2010 21:23

Just made my DH download an android app (like i phone I'm told?) so we can get updates like the iphone people

notso · 05/06/2010 08:55

Wow lots of lovely scan news congratulations everyone, am excited for mine on Weds now.
Not so excited about bloods the week after, I am not a needle fan but wierdly I only feel comfortable if I can see what they are doing, which is the opposite to most people.

My dn knackered me yesterday, I took him back about 3 then came home and fell asleep for two hours!
Did feel smug though as the child who only eats cheese sandwiches ate a massive tea, breakfast and lunch at Aunty Notso's, I do like to get one up on 'perfect' SIL

Am toying with the idea of getting another sick note for work, still being sick though not as bad as previous weeks. Dh thinks I should see how I get on, but I think thats the Manager in him talking not the Husband.

Persnickety · 05/06/2010 11:50

Sorry, I didn't explain myself in my little rant yesterday. I changed my usual MN name for this thread anything pregnancy related because I don't want to announce to the real world that I am pregnant until after the nuchal scan, when I will (hopefully!) find out that all is well. But, I'm rubbish at this name changing because several times now I have accidentally posted on some of my usual threads (where I still post under my normal MN screen name) under Persnickety. OOPS! After the nuchal (in 9 days!) I can just drop Persnickety.

WalkTheDog · 05/06/2010 12:18

Hi all

seems we have all got happier news today

Day 2 of me not feeling much sickness (but then of course you think "oh no what if it's my hormone level dropping "- crazy woman I am becoming!).

Lovely sunny day, have had a pleasant doggie walk with OH and going to have lunch in the garden.

Was out for a little while in local with OH's 2 sis - and one asked if I was pg (in a bit of a reply to me asking if OH had told her what I did today) and the other said "you need to get yourself pg"! Ha, they be fuming in a few weeks when we can finally tell them that I hadn't let on .

RaceyLacey · 05/06/2010 17:34

Hi all. Have been asleep most of the day. Actually glad that the boys are at their dads for a change.

Yes the holiday was genuinely utter hell Chooster & DF. We were staying in my parents tourer caravan and while the caravan is lovely it's really not me. We got there Sat lunchtime & by the time we had got everything sorted it was 5hrs later, every bedtime needed 2hrs of shifting things from one side to another and back again several times just to get to bed & the same again inreverse in the monring. So we were never out until after 1pm each day and by the time we had got back at about 9, couldn't get to bed 'til about 11. Even though I knew what it was going to be like I really wasn't prepared. All I wanted was a bed in a bedroom instead of the kitchen, to be able to sleep all night through in something comfortable. Not have to call pickfords to get up & go to bed. I was desperate for a toilet, shower & somewhere to brush my teeth. I just couldn't bring myself to use the chemical toilet, the shower blocks & could not use the water out of a vat that anyone could put anything into. Yuk yuk yuk!!! I wanted to go home Sat night tbh, but somehow managed to stick it out 'til Tues. Packed up ready to go & FIL said he would pay for us to stay in a static, so after a few hours of phoning every site in Cornwall we found one. It was probably the worst van on site but hey it had 2 bedrooms with proper beds, a shower (that shower Tues night was probably the best I've ever had!), the sight of the sewer pipe stickig out of the van was the best sight ever! And I could actually brush my teeth properly. So it felt like we arrived Tues pm, were leaving Thurs am, so felt like we travelled to Cornwall for a day out. On top of that I got ill from the water (was drinking bottled only until we got into the static, so then was ill and had to go back to bottled water). Pretty much all the meals out we had were crap, breakfast & dinner. So yes, utter bloody nightmare! Even the boys who didn't say anything about the tourer must have hated it as all they did was argue & fight while we were there, ds1 was horrible, but the second we got into the static they started playing nicely, laughing etc and were just generally lovely little boys for the rest of the time. Oh and the sun came out as we drove off of the tourer site!

Yay for android moomaa. I also have an htc which is amazing, dp has an iphone which he hates with a passion.

DF & Miffster - what's the significance of the nasal bone? And Miffster, thinking of your brother & your family. Hope all goes well.

kiwi (I think it was a long way down the thread) you said about the 3d/4d scan. I had one done with ds2. It was expensive as it was readily available then, it cost me nearly £300, but seriously worth every penny, it is utterly amazing! We've already started saving to get one done this time (less than £200 now, so a bargain!)

OWO - you have baby piggies, how lovely. ds2 really missed his 'pinny pigs' while we were away, my mum was piggy sitting. It's been really good to get them back & they definitely missed us too, especially 'the brown one' as he really snuggled up into dp when he came back.

That's been a bit of an epic post I think, sorry . Now back to sleep!

emma2617 · 05/06/2010 19:40

racey that was an impressivly long post! Shame you had such a pants holiday, every summer I spent 3 weeks in a tourer caravan in Brittany in France so I feel your pain!! It is most definately not fun, and something that I wouldn't even consider when pregnant!

I have just sat down to wat Britain's Got Talent, I love it!

Also Big Brother is about to start (which despite my best efforts I always get addicted to it, it lasts 13 weeks and it always seems to fly, so by the time it finishes I will be 24 weeks...now that is exciting!!!

OnlyWantsOne · 05/06/2010 20:37

Hey all,

the baby pigs are back with their mum, and she's now feeding them - at last!

We built a massive run for the chickens today too everything is a little agriculture here today.

DD is still up! Little maddam.

Grrr...

Lavitabella · 05/06/2010 20:38

I am absolutely exhausted, 2nd time this week I've had a 4 hour sleep after work

Persnickety I love your name, and will be looking forward to your big reveal! Good luck with your nuchal scan.

Notso I hope you are feeling better, I had 2 weeks off work previously and am now back to work, but i'm really struggling being so tired. Priorities have changed so if you need it, go to the doctor again. You and your baby come first.

MrsSnaplegs · 05/06/2010 21:51

Don't get chance to post often but have to say RaceyLacey - I envy your few days in a tourer (still witing for hubby to finish the restoration on ours) - we were camping bank holiday weekend - try being pg, camping in a farmers field with a portaloo and just a tap in the corner! Woken up be Mr Cockerel (that is not a euphomism) at 0330 every day and it rained most of Saturday so bored 4yo stuck inside as well!! We actually had a brilliant time for 95% of weekend and will be doing it again in 2 weeks but with slightly better "facilities" on site. I think you are either the camping/caravaninig type or not - sounds like you would enjoy it much more in a static next time for the full time. Can't wait till our vintage van is finished - roll on the summer!! Mrs S

Wholelottalove · 05/06/2010 22:24

OMG, I have just been given a stack of maternity clothes by SIL and NONE of the trousers fit. I can't get my great big arse into any of them. They are size 8s to be fair, but I was a size 8...before I had DD. I don't think I realised before just how much my arse has expanded recently. I know this is really trivial and I shouldn't be depressed about it, but you know, I am.
Thank goodness the tops seem to fit.

racey sorry to hear your holiday from hell experience.

OWO glad you piggies are being looked after by their mum now.

Lavitabella I'm with you on the exhaustion. I came over a bit wobbly earlier and had to go to bed for a 2 hour kip.

squistle · 06/06/2010 07:42

Been fine for the last three days, just a little tired but woke up this morning and MS is back with a vengeance hmmmmmmm....

DuelingFanjo · 06/06/2010 10:28

Wholelottalove I noticed my arse in the mirror yesterday, it seems wider

racey research has shown that if there is no nasal bone at the Nuchl scan or if its shorter than expected then it can be a sign that the baby has Downs Syndrome. Though not 100%. The only way I would know 100% is by having the Amnio. I'm trying to avoid that and hope that when my bolld tests are combined with everything they found on the scan I will feel I am low enough risk to not go on to have the Amnio.

I woke up feeling quite unwell today and am paranoid because I stopped using the progesterone pessaries yesterday. I was told to cut down to one a day from 2 a week or so ago and after the scan decided to stop using them as by now I've been told the placenta will take over. Still feel a little worried about it but maybe it's just the change making me feel ill.

Scan tomorrow. DH is going away on a course for 3 days after that so I think we might go public on Friday once the blood tests are back.

Wholelottalove · 06/06/2010 11:58

Hi All. DD got up at 5 this morning and it was my turn to get up with her, grrr. Luckily she went back to sleep for 2 hours at 9 so I've caught up a bit too. Dreading going back to work tomorrow after my lazy week off, but it might do me good to get up and about a bit.

Anyone else thinking of doing antenatal yoga? There's an evening class near me, but it is £54 for 6 weeks. I suppose that is less than a tenner a class, and it is for two hours, but it still seems like quite a bit to shell out all at once.

I think I need to get a bit more active. I've put on 5 pounds this pregnancy already, and I feel so tired and sluggish all the time. Hoping my energy levels will soon pick up.

I've found something to help with ms - sniffing and eating lemons. More satisfying than tangfastics and vit C too!

DF maybe our growing bums are to balance out the bumps? I have to admit looking back I was too thin with DD, stayed a size 8 most of the way through and although she was 8 pounds I was all bump and found I was getting a really sore bum from sitting at my desk all day - I think because it was quite bony and carrying a lot of extra weight! At least it looks like I won't have that problem this time.

DuelingFanjo · 06/06/2010 12:23

I was thinking of doing Ante-natal swimming stuff but seems they only do the classes on week days in the morning which is a bit rubbish for those of us who work! I wondered if work would give me time off to do it but I doubt it's in the same ballpark as scans and blood-tests.

TheChangeSpiral · 06/06/2010 12:39

My brother and his girfriend are coming over for a barbeque today, which I'm really excited about! I don't get to see him very often as they usually live abroad. I hope the sun comes out later, although right now I'm just glad it's not raining.

squistle That happened to me last week. Hang in there - it'll be gone again tomorow I'm sure.

Wholelottalove I really want to sign up for an antenatal yoga class but my main problem is that I have to wait til we move, which can't come soon enough. There's no point in signing up for six weeks of classes if I'm only going to be around for two. It might seem like a lot of money but I think you'll get a lot out of it if ordinary yoga is anything to go by.

Lavitabella · 06/06/2010 12:45

Duelling A girl in our head office used to go to pregnancy yoga during her working hours. I would love to but am a manager and there is no one to cover me whilst I'm off, even antenatal appointments are difficult, other managers are having to do extra hours to cover me.

See here for your antenatal rights this page

TheChangeSpiral · 06/06/2010 13:02

Thanks for the link Lavitabella, that's really helpful. I don't suppose anyone knows about the father's rights to leave for attending scans and suchlike? Do they have any? My DH is worried his work won't let him have the time off for them as it means taking whole days off to travel to another city.

Lavitabella · 06/06/2010 13:13

By law it is only pregnant employee's entitled to paid leave, my partner has been allowed by his company to attend all appoinments. I think that a lot of companies are becoming more flexible though allowed unpaid leave or letting your partner make back up the hours. He needs to see what his company policy is.

Have a look here

Wholelottalove · 06/06/2010 13:15

DF I was going to say yo are allowed paid time off for exercise if your midwife or GP recommends it, but Lavitabella beat me to it The yoga class I've seen is in the evening and on the day DH has DD so I won't have to worry about him getting home from work in time -perfect.

I do wonder why a lot of antenatal stuff is in the day. Surely most people are working or have other children?

Hmm, not sure spiral about work rights. I think right to paid time off is for the woman only. DH may not be able to get back in time for my scan next week which I'm pretty disappointed about.

Just found this link to the Fatherhood Institute which might have some more info if you dig a bit. www.fatherhoodinstitute.org/
