Miffster · 03/06/2010 18:24

Hello everyone,
I have been so weepy and frightened for last 2 days and so anxious (about scan and brother having chemo) I ended up taking a day off work as I couldn't think straight.

Anyway have now just been for the dating/nuchal scan at Homerton and so relieved to report that we saw a wriggling kicking baby, 12 weeks 2 days old!

They took bloods today as well but I won't get the full results to give the combined nuchal/bloodwork risk factor until sometime next week - by phone - if am high risk - or after 2-3 weeks in letter by post if low risk - so basically no news next week is good news.

Sonographer was very reassuring and lovely and said all seemed fine but she couldn't give a specific risk result based on scan alone as bloodwork needed to be factored in. However the scan was all good and everything looked perfectly fine.

Nuchal translucency 1.4mm (which is good news)
Biparietal diameter 22mm (?? what does this mean??)
Crown-rump length 61mm (good as far as I know)
Skull/brain appears normal, heart/spine/abdomen/stomach not examined, hands both visible, feet both visiblenasal bone visible - I asked specially about this

Good luck to everyone having their scans xx

OnlyWantsOne · 03/06/2010 19:11

so tired. not posting. 14 + 1 (I think)

absolutely pooped.

goodnight.

Hopeful1980 · 03/06/2010 19:12

Congrats Miffster - great to hear of good news scans! I'm 10+2 and it's 12 days till mine.

I can't believe we're talking about antenatal classes already - that's miles away and I'm not even 'out' yet!

Just had my £20 package of ebay items arrive and I'm so chuffed with them. The woman I bought from must be exactly the same size as me because they all fit perfectly, the jeans are wicked! can't really wear them in public for another couple of weeks though because if anyone catches sight of the big band at the top I'll be busted!!

Hope you sink thrower uppers get better soon, I seem to have lost the sickness but still knackered all the time.

xx

Miffster · 03/06/2010 19:21

The Change Spiral, no, you don't have to be a member of NCT to go to classes. You can knock off the membership fee from the amount they ask for to attend.

You should def book early though as they do get booked up or so I hear.

NickiSue · 03/06/2010 19:49

Like miffster I've been for my Nuchal scan today. I went for my "early" 7wk scan (previous probs) last week to find I was 12wks!! They didnt do the Nuchal scan at the time as I wasn't booked in with the midwife etc so I had an appointment this afty. My sonographer was also fantastic, and my nuchal measurement was 1.6mm so not much different, bloods done and will now have to wait for a letter or call with results, but it was fab to see bubs again!!

Wholelottalove · 03/06/2010 20:22

Really pleased for those who have had lovely scans and those who are feeling better.

I'm still being sick and v tired. I've eaten 4 callipos today . 12 weeks tomorrow, really hoping I stop being sick soon.

bakingkeepsmesane · 03/06/2010 23:09

It's taken me an hour catching up with all your news...sad it wasn't all happy.

Finally gave in & bought maternity clothes today (alternative was sitting in a traffic jam next to the mall junction!). Just headed straight to h&m & delighted to find lovely soft grey cords (over bump) as well as jeans, about £20 each, oh & soft top shorts which are fine already if I just fold the band down). Plus floaty top in normal sale perfect for wychwood festival this wkend when I'll be 14 wks, hurrah!

Even though I've had mostly queasiness rather than the full bleugh I still find the excitement is more than balanced by the fears & unknowns...comforting to know that's not unusual.

Good news from my 'mentor mum-to-be' friend who became 'mentor actual mum' today! Everyones ok in spite of umbilical cord wrapped 3x round baby's neck (eek).

Night everyone

mumatron · 03/06/2010 23:31

my gosh you ladies can chat! no way i can catch up with you all individually sorry.

dueling your normal mw doesn't have a broken foot by any chance? my normal mw couldn't see me either. makes a change, she is normally on hols when i have the booking appt.

innermost secrets are fab, and it was probably susie you spoken to. she is lovely, always remembers me when i phone. and the scans are great because they are shown on a 42in lcd tv rather than the normal monitor.

had my dating scan today, all was good. little baby defo in there with hb pumping away. was really amazing to see its arms/legs waving around.

i had myself as 10+2 and that was going by the 6 week scan, but today put me at 11+1 so almost a week out. at least its not a week less though.

finally starting to relax a little about this pg. haven't got this far in my last 4 pg's and everything looks normal.

hope everyone else is doing well.

OnlyWantsOne · 04/06/2010 08:26

Mumatron glad your scan went well

14 + 3 today?

Went to bed at 11pm (after giving baby pigs their last feed) then they woke me up at 3am chirping, they were fed and went back to sleep till 5... so

I am dog tired!!!!!!

DD being a little toad and constantly pushing me and testing me... well it feels like that any way.
Roll on DP coming home tonight!!

emma2617 · 04/06/2010 08:58

onlywantsone awww baby pigs, so sweet!

Glad your scan went well miffster here's to some fabulously low risk bloods!

mumatron how exciting about how far gone you are! I had the opposite with DS, though I was 12 weeks turned out I was 10, that is definately quite demoralising!!! Glad everything is okay!

All these scans are so exciting, i can't wait for mine! I can;t even count the days either as I dont know when it is! Although dating scans can be done up to 14 weeks so it could even be as late as the end of the month that seems an age away!

Persnickety · 04/06/2010 09:17

Mornin everyone. Can't wait for my nuchal, which is not until Monday week. Seems ages. I am having two actually. One at Fetal Medicine Centre because they are fab and will give me my result before I leave. And then the NHS one is free so might as well go to that one as well. If I get a bad result (I am a bit worries on account of being 40), I will ask for CVS on the NHS, as my budget for private extends only to the price of the nuchal. Coincidentally, the NHS one (C&W is on the same day). So DH and I are going to one early, then lunch and bum around London, the C&W at 3:00. Should be a nice day actually, so long as the news is good.

I am in maternity clothes now. I just wear long shirts to disguise the band. But I'm sort of between normal trousers and mat trousers in size. So I spend half the day pulling them up.

OnlyWantsOne · 04/06/2010 09:31

Pers how many weeks are you? x

RaceyLacey · 04/06/2010 09:44

Hi everyone, I back from my holiday helliday, and so very glad to be home. Now need to rest for a few weeks.

I thought I'd post now and catch up with you all later. I hope everyone is still with us.

I had my scan last Fri, and measured up exactly to my dates (would have been very surprised if I hadn't as was charting etc so know when I ov'd & implanted). Nuchal fold measurement was 1.6 and seeing as I have no letter from hospital when I got back & have had no phone call from mw that means all was fine. I have a very good baby apparently, was amazing, the sonographer went straight to it, no pushing and putting it at weird angles to try to see baby. It didn't even hurt (every other ultrasound I've had has been so painful and uncomfortable where they've been pushing so hard). We have 5 lovely pics which we can't take our eyes off and can't wait til July now for the 20wk scan.

Chloe - don't know if you've been up to QA since it was rebuilt, but it's lovely! To go for your scan the best place to park is in the old main car park. You go in the door next to the old main entrance, follow the corridor round (it's quite a trek) to lift block 2, then go down to level B, and along to reception. It's blimming huge in there and they've got all the new scanners. I was very impressed. Nothing like it was at St. Mary's when I had my other 2! It was really quick too. My appt was at 14.20, called in for my scan bang on time, had that, made my appt for 20wk scan, then was called straight through for bloods & measuring. I was out of there within 25mins.

I'm going to go and cry at the mound of washing I have and give my mum a call to see if she is now talking to me.

DuelingFanjo · 04/06/2010 09:56

mumatron wouldn't it be funny if we had the same midwife! We're only a week apart too now your dates have changed. I'm in Splott/Roath near Newport road. As far as I know my Midwife is on Holiday. Perhaps they are all on never ending holidays

onlywantsone you have pigs, how cute.

Persnickety the scans are scary aren't they. I am trying to stay positive, after all I get to see my baby today. Am hoping it all brings good news.

RaceyLacey welcome back. Was it really a helliday! Ooooh - I didn't think I would get photos at the Nuchal, will I? Can't wait now.

Hope all are good today. Roll on 6.20 when my scan is

WhatWillSantaBring · 04/06/2010 13:47

Hooray - finally got a scan date - in ten days time when I'll be somewhere between 12 and 13 weeks, I think.

Had blood tests this morning and the nurse was super - no pain at all. Is anyone else on their first and totally clueless as to their blood type? I'm really curious to know what I am.

Still not going to buy any clothes or tell the rentals till after the scan though - luckily I've got all my fat clothes still from pre-wedding diet days But hmmm, better organise a meeting somewhere with good shopping after the scan - I'm loving the undies in M&P (DH does too...)

Chooster · 04/06/2010 13:53

Oh, thats a late scan dueling!!! Makes the day drag on a bit I bet! . Good luck! Am sure it will be fab .

Racey - what was up with you holiday? Or are you just knackered being away with the kids (you have 2 dont you?). Sometimes I find holidays with the boys to be exhausting .

Nikkisue - great that you are further on than you thought. I went for my 12 wk scan with DS1 to find out I was almost 16 wks. It was a nice feeling to be further along ...

onlywantsone - Very cute you've got baby pigs . How you manage to get up at night to feed them though I dont know... Hats off to you! Reading your post though suddenly took me forward to around Jan time when we are all posting on the post-natal thread about the times we've been up in the night feeding babies . Not that I'm massively looking forward to the sleepless bit, but the thought gave me a little feeling of excitment .

Wholelotta - So sorry to hear you are still poorly - the sickness is so debilitating and I'm not nearly as bad as you are. I think you deserve as many calipo's as you want

Here all is well - I think I'm getting to the end of MS - at 14+1 I'd hope so! But last night I just felt drained again... I got into bed just after my DS1 at about 8.30 and was asleep by 9.15 when DH came home. And slept on and off (taking numerous toilet trips into account and 2 small boys coming into my bed) until 7.30! I'm meant to be going out tonight but the meal is not until 9pm - how on earth am I going to manage! Dont really want to cry off it though.

I'm still not booked in with the midwives yet so have not had a booking in appt or anything. Because of my complicated past history I was just referred straight from GP to consultant at the hospital. So now I need to book in with midwives but annoyingly the surgery are making me see the GP again before they'll refer me as thats the process. And I can't get a GP appt til next week! Its all a bit annoying but I can understand it I guess.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Persnickety · 04/06/2010 14:52

According to my lovely iPod app (which I discovered courtesy of the lovely ladies on this thread), I am 10+6 today.

If anyone has any updates they want to share, remember to put them on the December 2010 Stats Thread.

japhrimel · 04/06/2010 15:21

Lavitabella - I've booked my NCT classes already as I was told they book up quick.

TheChangeSpiral - no, you don't have to a an NCT member but they ask that you join to support the NCT in their work, so I figured fair enough. If the cost is an issue, they do lots of payment options.

I've started going to our local NCT Working Bumps group which is fab. It's lovely to meet IRL other mums-to-be and as everyone is at different stages, you can learn a lot because someone else will have the the research on local options already. Last time there was a second-hand maternity clothes sale and this month there's going to be a talk on home births and hypnobirthing. DH found it good as well to chat to other Dads-to-be.

Persnickety · 04/06/2010 16:09

Oh FFS... can I just say that I suck at this whole name changing thing. Roll on bloody nuchal scan so I can stop embarassing myself!

mumatron · 04/06/2010 17:10

omg dueling im right by the old infirmary. we are practically neighbours! i haven't changed doc surgery yet but will be joining roathwell on newport rd. isn't that funny. hope the scan goes well. do you know who is doing it? i heard you get the best results from mr beattie doing the scan so i have booked him. and i had a pic from my reassurance scan there so i should imagine you will get at least one.

we got 6 pics from yesterday and i haven't put them down yet.

persnickety i keep forgetting about the stats thread, will pop over and update myself now.

JodieO · 04/06/2010 17:25

Quick hello, knackered as usual. 11 weeks tomorrow and have a nuchal scan a week on Wednesday, private one in London where they are fab and told me the sex the last two times (didn't have it there with dd) so I'm really looking forward to it.

Glad I have that to look forward to as I've had no end of shit from ex who is deluded and harassing. I think he seriously has a screw loose and I'm trying to keep the kids safe. I posted some about him and the situation before but it's got worse. All the stress is awful for me and I keep getting pains so hoping it's good news at the scan. He's a very strange, and as I said deluded, man. Quite worrying too actually as he lives just over the road; by choice!!

mumatron · 04/06/2010 17:28

jodie sorry that you are having such a stressful time. i have a nitemare ex aswell. not what we really need at a time like this.

fwiw, i have had a few pains in the last few ddays and things were fine on the scan, so i'm sure you will be too.

moomaa · 04/06/2010 17:34

Hello, been absent from the thread for a while as I felt sick and tired all time but am feeling better now, am 13 weeks.

Had scan today and it was brilliant. Everything is fine and the baby was very active and I could see it's hands and feet reaching out and pressing into me and touching it's face Baby seemed much more developed then when I had scans for DD and DS. Feel very happy today.

WalkTheDog · 04/06/2010 17:54

Only a quick pop in, OH sis and nephew (almost 19 and not son of sis who is visiting) arriving in a wee while. Will probably fall asleep! But so far today I have almost not felt sick , how nice it is to feel almost normal!

Jobseekers interview went well, will here by post if they will give me any money, but woman didn't seem to have any qualms about me only wanting to work max of 4 hr/day due to my joints, or that I was pg. Was surprised how little help they gave in acutally looking for work - just told keep doing what I am doing.

Glad the scans went well miffster and moomaa

TheChangeSpiral · 04/06/2010 18:02

Hello everyone

According to the iphone I'm 12+3 today, bean is apparently the size of a peach and will probably come out looking like one, the amount I'm eating.

Feeling a world of better right now and very much appreciating it. After the most hectic couple of weeks with work, studying, bridesmaid duties and family issues (my mum seems to have gone a bit loopy) I finally feel like I can relax too and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Thanks for all the advice on NCT - I've registered my interest, so hopefully will hear from them soon.

No scan date yet but my first midwife appointment is on Monday - whoop! Not looking forward to blood tests though. I fainted last time I had a needle in my arm.

persnickety I just can't work out what you mean about name changing and why a nuchal scan would make a difference. Have I missed something?

Thinking of everyone who's still having a stressful time and hoping your situation all have the most positive outcomes possible.
