I only had a tiny bit of leaking boob but it was obvious on my PJ's. I'm glad I was at home too!!! It was a bit odd, I hope it doesnt get any heavier that that.

Welcome back Kando- glad you are settling in Holland ok and I hope your DD's are now on the mend.

Tabs- we will have to compare scans, I have to see MW on the Monday after aswell. I cant wait to see Delbert again!!

When is everyone starting maternity leave? I'm hoping to work first week of Jan, take second as holiday then start on 16th. Baby is due on 2nd Feb. I think a lot of people are starting earlier though is this right?

spacecadet · 30/08/2005 14:42

3k, i was still on maternity leave with dd2!, i handed my notice in at work, i have a balnce disorder which im recovering from so its not practical to do the job i was doing, anyone finding they can lie on their front, i havent been able to for about 3 weeks, im feeling obvious movement now, when i sit still

3k · 30/08/2005 14:55

Spacecadet - are you still working now or just working your leave?

Reason I asked is because I work for a small company (only 3 of us) and my boss is being a bit of a pain. I want to come back 2 days a week and then do another day at home but he is being funny. As he is on holiday I'm trying to compose an e-mail telling him what I want without peeing him off. I thought that if I got all my dates on the computer he could think about it and then we can talk about it next week but I'm dreading that discussion. He knows we struggle for money and is throwing that in my face all the time but money isnt everything and I want to be there for the baby when it is born. I could do 3 days a week but then might have to put baby in nursery for 2 days which then costs and then makes you wonder why you come back to work!! Arrhhhhhhhhhh.

I have felt movement too for the past few weeks but mainly when I relax at home in the evenings. At the weekend I sneezed and felt lots of obvious kicks as I think I made the poor thing jump!!

chloe55 · 30/08/2005 14:58

I'm gonna finish at xmas, much to Dh's dismay - I think he thought I would work right up until my waters broke........er, no!

TicTac · 30/08/2005 15:00

Maternity Leave...I am hoping to finish work on the 9th December on annual leave and then begin my mat leave on the 1st Jan. Not too sure yet though. I am just waiting to see what happens with the redundancy. I should get some details about that when I get back from hols!!

We go on Thursday and I am so looking forward to the break!

Ok TicTac, stop rubbing it in!! Only joking just very !! Hee hee

JuA · 30/08/2005 17:42

Kandoo - glad to hear you are all settling into your new life in Holland.

Tic Tac - have a fantastic break.

3K and Tabs - my 20 week scan is September 23rd too!

dd and I have had a really nice day to day - she has played nicely and we went swimming this afternoon - but I am going to have to invest in a new swimsuit - mine was a bit cosy!! and she has eaten lunch and tea without fussing!!
I am back at work tomorrow - but only 2 days this week and I have Friday to myself as I will send dd to nursery - which will leave me time to get ready for going away!

I have not got any idea when to start maternity leave - I finished work at about 36 weeks last time but I don't think I will be able to work for that long - I am going to speak to my consultant about it and see what she recommends - work are being really good and I will be able to cut down on areas when I am on my feet alot and do more desk work - and days at work are sometimes easier than days at home with dd!!!

flamesparrow · 30/08/2005 18:22

Everyone seems to be perking up now.

I got told off by my friend last night (midwife) for letting my iron get too low. I've not had my bloods back yet, but I keeled over trying to bath DD last night and had to lie down for a bit , and I get irrationally tearful when its low too (more than just hormonal). I tend to cry over things like the ambulance too when my iron is down.

Cried today cos DD has nits (very first time, and she's only 2), and my mum wanted me to use chemical treatments, and I didn't cos she's still diddy... I won - the chemist agreed with me that she's too young

Taken the iron now, and hoping to get sanity back soon!!!

chloe55 · 31/08/2005 08:33

Morning everyone,

Me and DH have made friends again now - he was very apologetic and made a big fuss of me last night so feeling much better today. I have been having a few on and off dizzy spells too but when I went to see the midwife last week she said my iron levels were good so not sure what that's all about? I haven't been passing out though so not gonna get too worried about it.

Off to centre parks this weekend so looking forward to a few pampering sessions in the spa, ah...bliss

TicTac · 31/08/2005 09:01

Flame - Hope you will be feeling better soon, nothing worse then crying for no reason at all!

How do you know if your iron levels are ok? I assume the booking in bloods would have shown an issue if there is one?

Seems like a few people are off on a break soon...I hope everyone has a really nice time and Chloe....stay out of the Saunas!

Yup - its normally the booking in bloods. I only had mine taken last Friday, so no results yet. They couldn't find a vein and had to use my hand

Word of advice ladies... DO NOT READ JODI PICOULT - THE PACT if you are tearful and hormonal... I'm halfway through and have cried solidly since page one

chloe55 · 31/08/2005 09:41

Was it Jodi Picoult who wrote My Sister's Keeper? Cried through that one on holiday too. Don't you think it hurts like hell when they take blood from your hand - or is that just me

flamesparrow · 31/08/2005 09:43

Yup to both - hurt like hell (DD kept saying Ow to me and kissing it!), and same as My Sister's Keeper!

I expected it to be like that, slightly emotional during, and then floods of tears at the end. I actually got to the stage last night that I couldn't see the page for the tears!

TicTac · 31/08/2005 09:56

WHY DID YOU LET THEM TAKE BLOOD FROM YOUR HAND???
I have just broke into a nervous wreck just reading your post...

Remember my hideous fear of needles...I go to pieces when they even look at my hand and they can never find a vein....

Flame....Ouch and Kisses to your hand!! You are so brave!!!

OP posts:
flamesparrow · 31/08/2005 09:59

They couldn't find even the teeniest of veins anywhere else, so it was that or nothing. As it was the midwife had already tried and given up, and sent me to the path lab so that people who do it all day every day could try... they got 2 other people in to try too

Luckily I'm not bad with needles

TicTac · 31/08/2005 10:02

Flame that is exactly what happened to me only I burst into tears when she said she was going to haveto go into my hand that she paniced and got yet another person in to try for an arm vein. It was the 4th person who managed to get bloods nice and easy from my arm but by that time I was such a wreck!

I hope I din't have to have any more bloods in this preg!

OP posts:
TicTac · 31/08/2005 10:04

You see I am traumered by just the thought that I have lost the ability to spell

OP posts:
flamesparrow · 31/08/2005 10:06

Awww - I knew a girl once who said she would never get pregnant because she refused to have bloods taken

TicTac · 31/08/2005 10:19

I wouldn't go that far and you can always refuse bloods so there is always a way around it!
I might be refusing the GTT testing because of the bloods. Will let you know when we have had the next appointment!

OP posts:
flamesparrow · 31/08/2005 10:22

GTT is 2 lots of blood being taken (normally 2 hours apart)

Is your gestational diabetes risk high, or is it some sort of routine thing?

Tabs · 31/08/2005 11:11

Morning ladies - back home and back to work today - boo!!

JuA - fab, 3 of us on same day for scans. Makes it easier to remember other people's dates when they're the same as yours!!!

Re mat leave question - I figure I'll finish either when there isn't really any more work on this project for me, or the end of November, whichever comes first! I fancy taking it easy in the run up to Christmas, and actually having time to do my Christmas shopping!

TicTac · 31/08/2005 11:40

Flame - High risk

OP posts:
spacecadet · 31/08/2005 11:57

3k, i have technically left, but addenbrookes said they will have me back whenever-your boss is not allowed to unreasonably refuse your request to work part time- he has to demonstrate that it would absoloutely not be feasible, he cant just say no,go on the dti website which will explain your rights and the maternity alliance.

spacecadet · 31/08/2005 12:00

3k-dti website

3k · 31/08/2005 12:40

Thanks for the link Spacecadet - I'm going to have a good look at lunch time.

I keep getting twinges low down on my left hand side, is anyone else getting these? I'm assuming it is stretching but sometimes when I stand up it really hurts then is ok again.
