Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

they dont do gtt at my hospital unless you have a high bmi, mine was high at 18 weeks with dd2 so i had the gtt, but it was normal, they took blood from my arm first thing on an empty stomach, then i had to drink a bottle of lucozade, then 1 hour later have repeat blood, in that time, was still not allowed to eat either, im more at risk as i have thyroid probs.

TicTac · 23/08/2005 17:34

Wow it seems so different in each hospital. I was told by consultant that you fast for 12 hours, then they take bloods and you drink yucky drink. You have to wait in the hospital waiting room for 3 hours and then they will test again!

Chloe - I couldn't let them near my feet...very very painful!!

Problem is with veins, thay can never find them. Last time it took 1 midewife try, 1 consultant tray followed by 2 blood bank experts who are masters in taking blood! It was the 4th person that succeeded!

Midwife appointment went really well - she is a lovely lady! She said as soon as I got in that I was wanting a homebirth, (so the two had obviously compared notes), and said that there was another woman in the practise having one. Since there were two of us, that she was informing the doctors (not names, just that we exist) in the hopes that they will start being more co-operative. She said she was informing them that we were HAVING homebirths, and not just WANTING

Spark's heartbeat is good and strong.

Gotta go back to get my bloods done cos I'm so dehydrated she couldn't find a vein at all Before she started looking for the vein she asked if I normally fainted with blood, and I said no, then she said "Would you like to lie down for them today anyway?" I think that was her polite way of telling me she was scared of me collapsing!!!

... she said that she had more to talk through with me, but that since I looked like I was about to keel over, she'd do that next time
Not seeing her again now til mid October after the next scan!!!

TicTac · 23/08/2005 19:33

Flame - really pleased it all went well for you today. Did she tell you what sparks heartbeat was?

tictac, sounds like your veins are like mine (an heredity thing apparently down the female line, my mum and grandma were the same).
You should mention it when you go for the tests and insist you have an more experienced person 1st time. Otherwise it is just stress all round....
On my last tests in hospital with no 1, the lady came in, stuck needle in my arm and did it, no fuss. I asked why she was so good compared to everyone else and she just said 'experience'!

Frizbe · 23/08/2005 20:15

Good news that all is ok FS, hope your feeling a bit better now

Tictac, Cyprus, lucky you, I'm sure I could make that meet!
Saturdays weather is looking ok, so we're going for the camping again! last ditch attempt at summer eh!

Tabs, Scuba, wow! always fancied trying it, but never managed it yet, usually stick to snorkling

SC how you feeling today?

Hope everyone else is ok, I thought my gagging had gone, but it hasn't so much for 13 weeks eh!

spacecadet · 23/08/2005 21:24

flame -glad it went well
frizbe-today is the first day that ive felt like im getting over the bug, yay!

TicTac · 24/08/2005 07:46

Morning Ladies,
Staying home from work today...not so good

OP posts:
Tabs · 24/08/2005 08:16

Morning TicTac - what's up?

Just off for a bath - back shortly.

TicTac · 24/08/2005 08:27

Oh nothing too serious! I have had either a cold or heyfever for this last week and my nose doesn't work anymore because of sinus blockage. Well it keeps giving me whoping headaches. I feel very sensetive this morning in the head, nose area and to top it off I feel nauseous! Not being sick though, just generally very weak!

ixel · 24/08/2005 08:46

morning. I keep checking in here to catch up, but feel like I've got nothing to contribute... just sitting around waiting for my 20wk appointment to come through, and I'm not seeing the doc till 6th October.I feel so different to last time, I'm sure I had hundreds more appointments than this. Its either the change in area, the fact that its second time round, or my paranoia!
Still feeling sick on and off, but am getting HUGE headaches in the evenings. My BP is fine though.
Getting itchy fingers to start buying stuff, but I know we have most of what we need, and can borrow the rest

chloe55 · 24/08/2005 08:49

Mornng everyone,

Glad the midwife appointments are going well. I also have some good news:

I'm allowed the 3d/4d scan I think it is mainly due to the fact I got so upset about not getting my 12 week and also DH is off on his friends stag do abroad for a long weekend so he thought it only fair I should be allowed a treat (why didn't I think of that when I was grovelling?!)

Off for my consultant appt in 30 mins so will let you know how that goes this aft.

TicTac - Bornfree is on TV this afternoon if you fancy a good old weepy.

TicTac · 24/08/2005 09:00

Chloe...I may well bed myself in for that then. And WELL DONE on the scan! So...when you booking yourself in then?
Let us know how your appointment goes.

Ixel - Not sure how much of the thread you have been able to catch up on but I think most of us are feeling a bit like we are now playing the waiting game. Some ladies have 16 week check ups (I don't) and others are not being seen at all until their scan...it really does seem to vary from place to place.

Tabs · 24/08/2005 09:04

Awww TicTac - Olbas oil on a hanky is what you need sweetie!

Glad to hear that everyone's appointments are going well, and Yay for Chloe's DH!

Ixel - you don't need to have anything worthwhile to say - just come on and talk nonsense with us! Have been trying to think of some 1 syllable names for you, but not doing well so far - got Saul and Lance and Kyle or Kai, but that's about it at the mo!

TicTac · 24/08/2005 09:10

Tabs - Olbas Oil and I are best friends at the minute cut even that doesn't get up my nose!
Have you seen the weather? NO NEED!!

OP posts:
flamesparrow · 24/08/2005 09:32

I couldn't believe the difference in how often I'm being seen this time either... between now and my due date, I have 7 more midwife appointments at the most (I think it might only be 6 + the scan)... seems very very little.

Tabs · 24/08/2005 09:42

Sure I read somewhere (might have been Emma's Diary) that you're supposed to get 10 appointments in total for a 1st pregnancy, and 7 in total for subsequent pregnancies.

TicTac · 24/08/2005 10:00

Blimey..I am 4 months preg and yet I have only met midwife once and a consultant once....they have got a lot of catching up to do hey!

OP posts:
spacecadet · 24/08/2005 10:13

i have another appt tomorrow, but im a high risk preg.

flamesparrow · 24/08/2005 10:20

Are you high risk through miscarriages or other reasons? (Sorry for being nosey....)

spacecadet · 24/08/2005 10:21

ive had a still birth and a recent late misscarriage, i also have a kidney prob and underactive thyroid..i look healthy mind!

flamesparrow · 24/08/2005 10:24

For your losses. Hooray for looking healthy though

TicTac · 24/08/2005 10:29
