JuA - do you know if they are identical or not?

TicTac · 23/08/2005 10:19

Oh Jua that might be a good idea with you having the 2...

Hi guys - I'm not up to catching up with all the previous posts right now... I will try later.

Been in bed with food poisoning since Friday night A weekend with lots of pooing (possibly tmi ), but thankfully very little sickness. The doctor basically said eata nd drink when I felt up to it, and wait for it to pass! No reassurance about my baby or anything, or indictation of how long it could take.

I'm feeling very drained, and have lost a lot of weight. But I am up, and capable of caring for DD today.

I have my booking in appointment with the midwife later which I refuse to cancel - had to explain to my mum that if I go, then I can hear that my baby is ok in there. She suddenly realised why I wanted to go so much, so is driving me there and back (she's had this too over the weekend).

I guess its just a case of waiting til this afternoon to find out all is ok for sure... no bleeding though which is a good sign.

TicTac · 23/08/2005 10:42

Oh Flame you poor thing...{{hugs}} to you. I hope it all goes well this afternoon, let us all know how you get on.

I am sure everything is ok, she might even send you for another scan if she has any concerns about the health of your bean!

Chloe - yes they think they are identical - they could only see one membrane separating them which means they have to have come from the same egg. Also identical twins are more of a chance thing than heriditary and there are no twins in either of our families that we know about apart from my mums cousin who had identical twins.

I am glad we didn't find out the sex of dd - I was convinced she was going to be a boy and was really surprised when she was a girl!!

spacecadet · 23/08/2005 12:14

chloe, when i had one lst year with dd, it was 145 with a 20min video and loads of pics.
flame-i had that awful bug too, im still not feeling too clever, gp said more of a concern was temp, but bean seems ok, you will be fine, our bodies are very good at protecting the beanies while we suffer!
dont overdo it though, you will feel very washed out for about a week.

popmum · 23/08/2005 14:19

afternoon all. had my 16 week check up today - all good. midwife listened to heartbeat (hard to find cos it was wriggling round a lot), which was VERY reassuring! Am off on hols on friday for 2 weeks so was pleased to hear it then so can truly relax (well as much as you can do with a 2 year old) then!
Agree with spacecadet, flamesparrow, a bug is unlikely to affect baby - am sure you will be fine

TicTac · 23/08/2005 14:23

Is anyone else having a 16 week check up? I have not been offered one...just told to start antenatal when 19/ 20 weeks...

Are you off anywhere nice popmum? Pleased your beanie is ok, have you felt it move yet?

OP posts:
chloe55 · 23/08/2005 14:29

I'm off to see the consultant (not midwife) for 15 week check up this week, it is mainly for my Downs testing - which, BTW, we have definitely decided not to have. I will not be offered antenatal classes until December TicTac and we are about the same length preggers. Strange how they do things differently wherever you live.

popmum · 23/08/2005 14:31

I seem to be having millions of appts - 12 week booking in, 16 week check up, 20 week scan, 24 week GP, 28 week midwife etc. More than my neighbour in fact whose GP is in a different county. Does massively vary by where you live which I think is a bit silly....after all the pregnancies are the same?!

We are off to france (by the coast)

chloe55 · 23/08/2005 14:52

Been on 4d websites all day and they are all around the £190 mark - keep sending piccies to my DH email and he is just saying no no no no no!! I want one! I want one!

Ok, little strop over, doesn't look like it will get me anywhere this time. Glad your check up went well Popmum, did they do anything else other than listen to the heartbeat?

TicTac · 23/08/2005 14:58

Beautiful Popmum, have a great time and get plenty of relaxing in!!

Chloe...are you not having any luck with a 2D scan either...tell DH he is a big meanie

Oh dear - too busy again today with work! Hugs to Flame - hope you're feeling brighter v soon and that you get to hear the little one at your appointment this afternoon.

Yes, I have 16ish week appointment, but having it at 17 weeks, this Friday.

TicTac - when you say you 'start antenatal' at 19/20 weeks, what exactly do you mean? Not your NHS antenatal classes that early surely ?

I booked my NHS classes today. Lady did say that dates weren't set yet for feb classes, but then when she realised that Christmas and New Year would prob get in the way of when they ought to be, and because I'm due at beginning of Feb, she's booked me onto some in November instead. I get 4 evening classes starting 10th November.

chloe55 · 23/08/2005 15:05

Well the 2d ones are obviously cheaper but I think I may aswell just wait if I go for the 2d and DH will def tell me I just need to be patient. Just emailed him again suggesting that mum might put towards as an early xmas pressie (not asked her yet but bet she would!) Hee hee I just can't help myself - he's gonna start ignoring me soon!

TicTac · 23/08/2005 15:06

Tabs - no not the parent craft things, just an antenatal appointment which I believe just checks your ok etc..

Have you been "offered" gesational diabetes testing? Are you having it? Is it compulsary? Does anyone know anything about the risks of GD to the baby and mother?

OP posts:
chloe55 · 23/08/2005 15:07

He just said he'll think about it and I have to let him sleep on it - that nearly always means yes - woohoo!!! Best not get my hopes up.

Tabs · 23/08/2005 15:11

Hi TicTac - yes, I've got my GTT test booked already. Surprisingly was offered it only due to family history of IDD, and not because of weight! I thought they automatically tested if BMI was above 30, but apparently it's above 35 at my hospital, so I just scraped through on that score!!

I would imagine that it's not compulsory, as nothing seems to be, but definitely advisable.

The biggest risk I'm aware of if you have it is having a v large baby, and increased chance of caearian, but other than that I'm not sure.

TicTac · 23/08/2005 15:11

Good effort Chloe! I am sure you can make him say yes with a night of "oo but I would feel so much better if..." etc

We expect an update tomorrow

OP posts:
Tabs · 23/08/2005 15:12

Fab Chloe - now cook him a nice dinner and be really sweet all evening!

TicTac · 23/08/2005 15:13

Tabs - it is over 30 at our hospital!! I have the test booked in but because of my blood trauma I really don't fancy it! Did they tell you it would be bloods or finger prick? They said bloods to me....which I then followed with several appointments for them to actually get blood etc...so am too petrified now!

OP posts:
chloe55 · 23/08/2005 15:16

Tabs - he's on the cereal diet at the moment so I think I can manage to cook him up a lovely bowl of Special K, will have to get round using a different technique

Tabs · 23/08/2005 15:24

They didn't mention any pricks (!!), so I assume full bloods. And they take a few of them over a period of a couple of hours don't they. Do they try everywhere to get blood from you and just not succeed? I find that they can never get any out of right arm, but left arm offers plenty (I'm left handed if that makes a diff). I think it's one of those things that is worth going through it for. I guess there may be an increased risk of you or baby getting diabetes afterwards otherwise too.

TicTac · 23/08/2005 15:32

Hmmm, neither arm plays very well so they threaten to go in through hands and feet which is just hideous. I have a realy fear of needles anyway. If the test was just 1 set of bloods in the day I could convince myself it's a good idea but 2 sets...I would be sick...very sick!!

Hmm, need to ask midwife when I see her on the 19th Sept.

OP posts:
popmum · 23/08/2005 15:35

At my checkup also checked bloodpressure and if i was ok. Felt for the bump and said it is there (small still!).
The GTT tests - I had them last time (weigh less this time so don't need to have them!) - you fast for 12 hours I think, then have a blood test, then drink a yucky sweet drink then they test again 1 hour later. A bit dedious but good to check. They do take a vial of blood each time.
Do you have problems with them finding a vein - I do and the best thing is to ask for someone experienced cos then it shoudl be easier!

chloe55 · 23/08/2005 15:41

I know you are pertrified of needles TicTac and understandly so what with your past experiences but maybe a needle in the foot might be better? You can completely hide your face with both hands or shut your eyes and squeeze a pillow or DH hands really tightly without causing any problems for the nurse - just a thought .
