Oh, must have been something in the air this weekend - I had very uncomfortable Braxton Hicks on Saturday morning. It was a while before I figured out what they were to be honest as they felt so different from the ones I had with ds. Decided to put this down to my anterior placenta (posterior with ds)- not nice at all though!

Congrats LCR! Hope you manage to get away on honeymoon!

Busy weekend chez bouncing. Washed the lining and all the frilly bits for the moses basket (decided to stick with the one we had with ds - been nibbled slightly by a mouse but it's only the top edge at the bottom that's damaged and once all the linens are on you can't tell), planted out loads of stuff at the allotment and made an effort to eat up all the random bits in the freezer to make way for all the batch-cooking I'm planning! Made for some random meals this weekend, but nobody seemed to mind!

Just ordered the new cot, so feel like we're finally getting organised...I'll probably go overdue now won't I?

ElusiveMoose · 17/05/2010 12:04

Big congrats LCRLCR!! Will try to have a look at your photos later.

Blueberries, I washed all my moses basket bits at the weekend as well - it felt lovely . Even though this basket is a hand-me-down from my sister, it feels like a new one because we didn't use it last time (used a very very old hand-me-down from DH's aunt for DS, which had already done at least four children and was 25 years old!).

Re the bf'ing, I definitely second the advice to keep a nice open mind about how long you're going to feed for. The comments on here made me remember one of our prenatal NCT classes, when we were asked what our intentions were re feeding. All the other five women were pretty vague - they said things like 'I'll give it a try, but then see how it goes'. I remember thinking ( ) that that was a bit pathetic, and they clearly weren't really committed to bf'ing. I said that I was definitely going to bf for at least a year. Now, we all had different experiences - one stopped after a day (but her husband left her the same day , so I don't think her experience really counts!); one had a dreadful time and gave up at 4 weeks; I had a dreadful time and gave up at 6 weeks; two (including the mum of twins) bf'ed with the odd formula top-up for 6 months; and one bf'ed exclusively for a year. But, the relevant point is, of the six of us, I struggled far more emotionally than the others, because I had been so utterly convinced about the fact that bf'ing was going to work for me, and I'd definitely keep going for a year, so the feelings of guilt and failure were really powerful. This time round I'm going to try again to bf, but I'll be much more realistic and open-minded - so that whatever happens, I hopefully won't go through the same feelings I did last time.

Sorry, rather a long post. Better go and make the lunch. I'm determined to try some more different foods for DS, so we're having fruity chicken couscous today. Hope he likes it .

CherryPie3 · 17/05/2010 12:49

Good Morning ladies.

Congratulations LCR/LCM - haven't seen your photo's yet but I'm sure they're beautiful - I will have a look on my lunch.
Where are you going on honeymoon?

Hope you're feeling better Vix!! Sorry about your nursery but you just know it's gonna be fab when you do get to do it!!

Welcome to Rachel As others promised I have added you to the magical list (Will post below) Oh and I did get the bf dvd from the mw. I also though 2y was a bit much!! Am hoping to exclusively bf for 6m then alongside weaning for at least 3m after that. Definitely not 2y!!! They have lots of teeth by that age

WeeHector I don't think I could survive without Sky - even though I only watch it for about 2 hours a week!!! And dh certainly couldn't, he watches it at every available second.

Cazzy Sorry your dh missed the scan, did you have a lovely time? I mentioned having a 4d scan to dh at the weekend and I got a look, and a "what the hell for" response. So I guess I'm really not allowed one then .

Aussie Yay for reduced working hours

hilda good luck with the house(s)

Sorry for all the concerns around braxton hicks - they're right troublecausers aren't they??

I think I also 'nested' a bit at the weekend - got loads of washing done, washed the tiny ickle baby things, found some baby girls things so washed them too.

Enjoy your Mondays girls - got to go to physio in a bit. xxx

ElusiveMoose · 17/05/2010 13:36

Well, that was a total fiasco. DS ate three mouthfuls of his couscous and then refused to eat the rest (even though I knew he was starving). I offered him some bread and cheese instead, which he then threw on the floor because it was the wrong sort of cheese. I then shouted at him, he burst into tears, and then I burst into tears because I was SO frustrated with him. In the end he wolfed down three pieces of bread with peanut butter, a yoghurt and an entire box of blueberries. As soon as he'd got some food inside him, he became as sweet and cheerful as ever.

Grrrr. Tell me it's not only me who goes through these food battles with their toddler?? Honestly, it's mealtimes like this that make me realise why I always make the same foods that I know he likes....

Alicetheinvisible · 17/05/2010 13:41

Not exactly food battles, but definite battles. Shouted at DD twice the other day just because we were both tired and cranky. I find it so frustrating that she completely ignores me, sometimes that is the last straw

Could you try new things on the side of old favourites? As i said i don't really have battles with food, but have lots of friends who have and it is usually something they outgrow

Have started a thread on the BH's, but no real advice, so have sent MW a text to ask for an earlier app.

ElusiveMoose · 17/05/2010 13:59

Thanks for the wise words, Alice. I know you're right and that the best thing to do is give new things alongside old things - but making two different things is just such an effort sometimes [sigh]. I did this at the weekend when I made some falafel for me and DH and gave DS his normal lunch plus some bits of falafel - and of course he just ate his normal lunch and politely ignored the falafel . And I'm definitely finding that my temper frays more quickly now that I'm pregnant. Still, he's starting nursery two mornings a week in a fortnight (which I'm both excited and terrified about), and he'll be having breakfast and lunch there, so I'm hoping that might encourage him to try new things.

Hope those BHs settle down a bit for you. Sounds like a good idea to text your MW.

Alicetheinvisible · 17/05/2010 14:08

If for lunch he is happy having peanut butter sandwiches then i would give him that plus the new thing and not make a fuss of it. DD will often just go off stuff, but then start eating it again randomly. She did go through a bit of a phase of not wanting to eat veg, so i was giving her more potatoes etc to make up for it. Decided that probably wasn't helping, so cut her portion sizes down quite dramatically (would eat a huge portion of something she liked, but not a thing if she didn't) and put even amounts of everything we were having on her plate. She soon started eating broccoli and carrots and meat again after that. I think nursery can help a lot with their eating habits tbh.

bouncingblueberries · 17/05/2010 14:41

With you on the short tempers girls. I was so exhausted as various points over the weekend that I just couldn't handle ds doing anything other than EXACTLY what I wanted him to do! Poor thing - I knew I was being unreasonable.

Re the food, we find that ds will happily eat anything and everything at nursery but when we try to give him for example a veggie curry at home, he refuses and tells us that he only eats nursery veggie curry

Also, for a child that devoured raisins like they were going out for fashion for about 2 years, he now refuses point blank to eat them. EVEN if they're in cake! So weird...

Just spent a fortune in MAC and Benefit decided I needed some gorgeous new eyeliners, creams and potions to make me feel a bit better. Especially since my usually lovely friend told me quite cheerfully yesterday that my face was looking very round and pregnant Goodbye cheekbones then...

ElusiveMoose · 17/05/2010 14:56

Wow, Blueberries, with friends like that.....

Seriously, I'm going to plan a bit better on my pre-birth beauty regime this time round. Last time, I thought it wasn't worth bothering getting my haircut in the few weeks before the birth, and then because DS was two weeks late, by the time I gave birth my hair looked dreadful (it's very short so needs cutting pretty often). I know it sounds ridiculous, but when I look at the post-birth baby photos, I can't help wincing at how frumpy and awful my hair looks . This time I'm going to have a cut around 3 weeks before, I think, so even if I'm a fortnight late again, I should still look vaguely acceptable... And all you first time ladies, definitely remember to pack a little bit of slap in your hospital bag. It probably sounds very shallow (and I'm honestly normally the last person to be that bothered about how I look), but if you're in hospital longer than 24 hours or so, you will feel SOOO much better once you've had a shower and just dabbed a bit of powder and mascara on (or whatever counts as 'basic' make-up for you).

Alicetheinvisible · 17/05/2010 15:22

I don't really wear make up day to day, but i am starting to need it now! Have been looking up tinted moisturisers and waterproof mascaras, so that i can look decent and it is 'day proof' (always end up smudging my make up) Got the No7 Radiance Booster last week which is nice too.

Chulita · 17/05/2010 15:53

elusive DD's still going through a phase of not eating hardly at all. I find every meal so frustrating - she throws everything on the floor. She'll eat peas, mini cheddars and oranges and honestly that's it. She will however drink over a pint and a half of milk a day I'm currently trying to get her off her fixation on milk and onto real food but if I drop her bedtime milk she doesn't sleep. Some days I'm tearing my hair out, and this has been going on for months now

I'm not a make-up person at all but after DD my lovely DH said I looked like the living dead - that's what 6 days without sleep will do for you. I still won't pack any though, I don't have much clue when it comes to that! I will get my hair cut in a few weeks though so it still looks alright for a while afterwards!

I'm looking at getting some bravado nursing cami's but they cost £30 each...still trying to convince myself that it's all coming out of the HiP grant

bouncingblueberries · 17/05/2010 16:15

Oh I'm sooooo packing some mascara and a bit of lip gloss in my hospital bag this time AND making sure I get a haircut in time elusive. I made the same mistake as you last time and look frightful in all the photos. Didn't manage to go for a haircut until ds was about 10 weeks old but I felt amazing after! Felt like I'd found the real me again!

LizzieA · 17/05/2010 16:35

chulita I've spent my HIP grant about 4 times over now while justifying my spending

Very jealous of all the nesting that's going on, I'm being ridiculously lazy at the moment, I had last week off work to get the nursery sorted out and nine days "work" resulted in the wallpaper being stripped (1 afternoon) and an addiction to Discovery Home and Health! If I don't get a wriggle on (or get a bigger stick to poke DP with) this baby will be sleeping in my knicker drawer!
(quick, someone call in Social Services)

CherryPie3 · 17/05/2010 17:21

Hello everyone

Appointment at physio was an absolute disaster .

Appointment supposed to be 2:20pm, was still waiting at 4pm! They were short staffed apparently. Finally got seen at 4:10. Out by 4:20. Too late to go back to work so no doubt they're all annoyed with me.
On a brighter note - I don't have to go back now until after baby's here and thats only to return the crutches - so I'm very happy about that.

Got my consultant appointment tomorrow which is at the same hospital as physio - if it's anything like last week and today I've got a feeling I won't be returning to work tomorrow either. (then again - is that a bad thing?)

Right, I'm off to pick the kids up from mums place - catch ya later xxx

Oh completely ElusiveMoose, I do take your point, but I figure I might as well set out expecting to breastfeed successfully. Yes, I'll be really disappointed if I can't for whatever reason, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I'm expecting it to be hard at first, and painful, but I really really want it to work so I'm going to give it my best shot. If it doesn't happen then fine - it will mean we can leave the baby with grandparents for the odd evening that much earlier! But we shall see.

girlsyearapart · 17/05/2010 19:56

lizzie my nephew did sleep in a drawer for a few weeks! he was 9 wks prem so caught us all out and nothing was ready

having major braxton hicks again this evening. fed up.

CherryPie3 · 17/05/2010 20:12

GYA Hope the BH calm down for you!!

Anyone know any tricks for getting rid of nightmares? My poor dd keeps dreaming that we're dying - she even see's the dreams when she's awake and it's really frightening her

I've got threads open in parenting and sleep - hoping for a solution cos I feel so sorry for her, bless her.

OP posts:
CazEM · 17/05/2010 20:46

Evening ladies!

My sympathies to everyone with fussy eating going on! I'm really not looking to forward to the fussy eating stage! Its the only time of the day in school where I find myself with less paitence than normal (of course I do keep my paitence there though!) so I can imagine how quickly frustrated and cross I would get with my own children!

We've been and got our little tester pots for the nursery! The room is a bit of a funny shape so this may not make much sense, but we've decided we want lemon on the wall next to and at the head of the cot and the other walls a pale pink. That will tie in all the other things we've bought, e.g. bedding, light, curtains etc.

Also went shopping for our nieces birthday tonight, she'll be 3 on Saturday! Decided on a lovely garden slide for her! I hope she enjoys it now, quite a bargain at £25 I thought!!

Sorry to hear your appointment was such a shambles Cherry

Congratulations again LCR/LCM - glad to hear you had such a perfect day! I would love to do it all over again (of course to the same man!!) Where can I find your photos?! I bet you looked absolutely amazing!

I'm looking forward to treating myself to a haircut and colour in half term now! Booked it in today! You can always rely on a haircut to make you feel lovely again! After reading what Elusive has said I will make sure I try and fit in a last minute hair cut just before due date so I don't feel too frumpy in the photos!! and I'm also glad I haven't braved a wax now after how painful you've made it sound LCR/M and others! Gunna get DH on the case this evening I think! Haha!

CellyD · 17/05/2010 21:50

Congratulations LCR/LCM!

All this talk about getting organised and nesting, maybe some of it will rub off!

I went for a proper bra fitting today, wow... one hundred times better than the two dubious fittings I have already had in two well known high street stores. My bust is now separate from my bump, I feel a million times more comfortable, if only I had gone there in the first place proper fittings are the best!

CazEM · 17/05/2010 22:17

Well after getting DH on the case I've decided we've reached a new stage in our relationship and that it really must be love! Haha! Not a position I would've ever imagined us being in!

Celly may I ask where you had your bra fitting? I'm due another one - mine have suddenly become very tight. Must be baby expanding my ribs!! Going to have to leave it until payday though! I've been going to Debehnams or Bravissimo, both ok and no complaints, but I'm not really enjoying this non-wired bra lark and feel I've lost my shape, but feel uncomfortable in underwired, so its a no-win situation. Better to be comfortable though, especially when we all have the pregnancy aches and pains we can do little about - will be back in my wireds when I've stopped feeding!

Right I think its time for bed after my late night last night. Think I may go and have a little listen to babys heartbeat for a while! Night all!

CazEM · 18/05/2010 06:53

LCR - you look beautiful in your photos! Love your dress, and definately shows bump off to perfection!

girlsyearapart · 18/05/2010 08:18

thanks cherry had a very uncomfortable night with the BH's continuing all night combined with feeling sick and breathless.

Please let it stop I can't go another 11 wks feeling like this!

My dd1 has nightmares too we just have to go in and shush her give her hair a stroke and he usually calms down.

Alicetheinvisible · 18/05/2010 08:56

Morning ladies

MW got back to me yesterday evening, and told me that it sounds like very strong braxton hicks, and not a uti. Which is kind of a relief, but not in that i can't do anything about it!

However, i was up last night with S&D and feeling a bit sorry for myself. No idea where it has come from (i never get stomach bugs due to having horses and biting my nails ) but i honestly thought i was dying

Must get things done today too, but it is the last thing i could do with.
