Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
RachelParker · 16/05/2010 18:01

Thanks Cazzybabs, as this is my first baby and I'm the first in my set of friends to have a child it's hard to get information on breastfeeding etc.

cazzybabs · 16/05/2010 18:14

To breastfeed at all is better than not ... buit once I got in the swing of it it was easy to carry on - its free and and I never ran out

but having said that please don't think it will be all easy ...

with dd1 it was a nightmare until she was about 6 weeks..I had to really want to do

plus the joys of mastis and leaky books

and then the guilt if you can't...

Aussieng · 16/05/2010 18:17

Well mine will be bf until about 6 months and after that it will depend on how being a mummy fits in with work etc etc but realistically I accept that I will be unlikely to get to 1 year. But DH and I have just had a very positive start to a conversation about me moving to a reduced hours working arrangement....

Your nursery chair pics are motivating me to make a start on painting the nursery but the lovely evening sunshine is drawing me outside.

CazEM · 16/05/2010 18:18

Afternoon all!

Well I'm seriously pleased because Mission Attic was completed today! Only took the weekend! Can't believe its taken us 3 years to get around to doing it! How lazy were we!! Really happy with it and it means the nursery can be started! Infact already had my uncle down today to fit the ceiling light! (Its a pretty pink flower fitting with butterflies hanging off it!) I'd asked him weeks ago if he would mind helping out with the light fitting at some point and today he rang on the off chance to see if we were in and if I wanted it done today! So that was a lovely coincidence as we're now ready to start the nursery! Going to go to B&Q tomorrow after work I think now and buy some tester pots to choose a shade of pink! Still got a pile of junk to clear out of there yet before painting can commence mind! Sounds like a plan for next weekend - junk clearance! Although I do feel quite bad being excited about my nursery when your so dissapointed Vix - I hope you get a buyer for your house soon!

We are going to be getting this chair! Think I'll order it when the room is clear now! www.mums2b.co.uk/prod5.asp?ID=281&offset=&prod_id=194&grpid=194&#prod_anchor

Welcome to Rachel - never too late to join! You'll find us a very chatty bunch!

Loving the the 4D pictures Lizzie - so beautiful! I'm not surprised your cross with your DH Cazzy. Sounds so special - eyes open and everything! My DH relented and said I could have a 4D scan if I really wanted one, but that he wouldn't be going with me if I chose to have one because he thinks they make the baby look 'scary and alien like and not at all cute or realistic' - so there we are then! He says he's quite happy to see his daughter when she arrives and looks beautiful and not like a 'playdough baby'. Its put me off having one (which was probably his trick to stop me nagging!) because unless he is going to come and its a joint experience I don't want one, but I do IYSWIM! Haha! Men!

DH has a right grump on him today and is being really snappy with me. I know he doesn't feel right and is even more tired cuz he had to help a bit with the attic but he was really horrible earlier. I've suggested a trip to the pub for a pint or 2 (him not me, I'll stick to very exciting orange juice and lemonade!) to cheer him up! Haha!

I didn't realise there was a recommended time of 2 years for BF. I fully intend to BF - haven't got a specific timescale in mind but was thinking up to 6-8 months or so like Rachel - once fully weaned onto solids? Oh so much to learn I think!

Aussieng · 16/05/2010 18:19

"will be breastfed" ha! Sounds good in theory doesn't it - I realise the reality may be different as your last post reminded me Cazzy!

CazEM · 16/05/2010 18:27

With Aussie - that is only my theory. Who knows what will happen in reality! I'm just positively hoping BF will work for us!

cazzybabs · 16/05/2010 18:34

well my philosophy has always been as long as your baby lis loved you are doing better than some (most???)

and you only have to good enough not perfect - it won't know any better

so if can breastfeed do and if you can't well there are worse things than formula - crack, alchol, weaning at 2 months etc etc

Bubbabear · 16/05/2010 19:09

Am a bit nervous about the whole breastfeeding thing as no idea what to expect really. I would love to be able to and am prepared to perservere if it doesnt come very easily. On the other hand i think there's more than enough to adjust to when becoming a mum so not going to beat myself up about it if it all goes t**s up lol.

Quite a few years ago i had a 4 & a half year old boy start in my foundation class at school who was still being breastfed. He used to go home at midday for 'lunch'. No matter what happens I can safely say I wont be carrying on for that long!

CazEm we've got the beech version of your chair ordered with our nursery furniture. Looks & sounds very comfy

Have recently begun to get a bit more scared about the whole labour thing. Prob cause we've reached the '3 months to go' stage. Am feeling very unprepared as have been caught up in the niceties of buying lovely baby things! Have just ordered a hypnobirthing book & cd & have vowed to finally get round to reading the Ina May Childbirthing book i bought about 3 months ago! Now just to find the time...

Bubbabear · 16/05/2010 19:15

Sorry forgot to say hello & welcome to our newbie. Nice to have you join us Rachel. Great name Same as me although im of the Rachael variety. How have you been finding things so far?

weehector · 16/05/2010 19:50

'Breastfeeding goes t*ts up'.

Bubba The copywriting job is yours.

ronx · 16/05/2010 20:43

I wondered where everyone had gone on the previous thread!

Don't worry too much about the ladygarden maintenance. I had a bikini wax a couple of weeks ago - my first since I found out I was PG. I had been warned that it would hurt more than usual, but it didn't really.

Aussieng · 16/05/2010 21:28

Just watching "I didn't know I was pregnant". How's this for a brainiac statement "the only explanation I have is that we didn't use contraception". Yes honey - that would probably be it

hildainstant · 16/05/2010 21:52

Hi folks,

Thanks for all your kind wishes about my exam and house last week. Exam seemed to go fine but I'll let you know when I get results...one more assignment to finish this week, then dissertations and then DONE!!

Unfortunately we didn't get the house of our dreams. Blummin cash buyer! Anyhoo ended up having offers accepted on another one which needs loads of work but has huge potential to be fab. THEN, that afternoon (Fri) we were told we may still have a chance of the first house so will find out tomorrow. I'll let you know!

Well, bambino is going to be a Sunderland player if the kicking practice its getting is to go by! I didn't expect this much movement! It is lovely though, isn't it!

And on the subject of lady gardening...I had a routine wax at about 14 weeks and I vowed never again until the bambino has arrived. The pain was unreal and my beautician told me my skin was reacting so much I was bruising!! I've had routine waxes (the lot!) for over 5 years now and I've had to tell DH he'll have to put up with an unruly garden for a little while cos I aint doing that again!

I'm a little worried, if I can't cope with that, what will I be like in childbirth!

With respect to BF - I'm not making any decisions until baby arrives. I have many friends who did, and who didn't and I don't think there's any harm in not. I'd love for baby to get the Colostrum (Spelling?) but other than that I won't put pressure on myself. Plus, I think DH will miss out on some bonding time if he can't help out with feeds. I know you can express for him to help, but like I say, I'll decide later.

Emster30 · 16/05/2010 22:10

I'm 30 weeks today! Hooray!

Have spent the day at my best friends' baby's 1st birthday party which was lovely - the sun shone and we had a barbecue. My friend is still breastfeeding and doesn't plan to stop anytime soon - though she would like it if the baby ever slept through the night... I would like to breastfeed up to 2 or so if I can. I think it's especially good if the baby gets a cold or anything as it provides comfort and some nutrition if they won't eat anything else!

Aussieng · 16/05/2010 22:17

Just watching "I didn't know I was pregnant". How's this for a brainiac statement "the only explanation I have is that we didn't use contraception". Yes honey - that would probably be it

Aussieng · 16/05/2010 22:20

Ummm - don't know what happened there - posted the last post ages ago but MN seemed determined to "resend" when I tried to check my diary for tomorrow. Night all.

hildainstant · 16/05/2010 22:21

Emster - happy 30 weeks day! It's my 25 weeks today. Just think, in a (good) few weeks we'll all be announcing our births!

weehector · 16/05/2010 23:22

Anyone else doing the percentages/fractions/days to go in their head regularly?
e.g. right that's me 70% there, 100 days to go..

..and looking at the credits at the end of films to find inspiration for baby names?(even though we've decided)..

babyducky · 17/05/2010 07:19

Morning all

Hope you had a great day saturday LCR xx

Loving the 4d scan pics, would love one but really dont want to find out the sex, Im worried that we would accidently see something!

Welcome Rachel, I got that dvd, I havent watched it yet though, I'm just going to try & breast feed as long as possible, I'd be happy to even manage a week or 2, just have to see how it goes.

Im still feeling positive about the birth, quite looking forward to it actually, I was dreading it last time & terrified the whole pregnancy! I'm sure that is the main reason why it didnt go as I would have liked, so this time I'm staying calm & positive!

I have got a hypnotherapy cd & the ina may book.

CazEm, the nursery sounds like it'll be lovely, nice chair too

Have a good day everyone x

CazEM · 17/05/2010 07:21

Ahhh bloody leg cramps! My right leg has been tight and in a mini-spasm all night!!! Still the same this morning, threatening huge spasms! So irritating!

Anyway, morning ladies. We had a lovely evening in a grotty the pub! (The pub was DH's choice, not my cup of tea!) Muchly cheered up, if not slightly drunk DH! He will regret that this morning when I have to get him up in a few minutes - he is on early's this week apparently. I struggled getting up as well as it was quite a late night out for a school night!

weehector - I'm on a weeks/days countdown now, percentages I wouldn't be able to work out! Lol! Days only because I added an application thingy to my FB, so due-date buddy we have 82 days to go today! and I have been known to take more notice of the names at the end of a film for name inspiration! Although not recently - I honestly stopped thinking about different girls names once we'd decided! Boys names on the other hand - if baby comes out blue instead of pink it would be a nightmare as we could never agree on anything for a boy!

Onto work then - I'm on countdown, 2 weeks to half term, and then only 7 weeks till I finish! Hooray! Going to go to B&Q tonight to get tester pots for the nursery, so that will get me through the day! Will probably have to pop in Asda too and get some food in cuz we're Mother Hubbard as usual - can't remember the last time we did a proper shop, will have to make more effort and get into more of a routine with supermarket visits again!

Have a lovely day all!

girlsyearapart · 17/05/2010 07:41

morning all

and hello to rachel you're due day after me.

Had a good weekend though we went up to chelsea yesterday to watch the footie parade as dh and his family are big Chelsea fans.

It was ok but did far too much walking then standing up in a crowd getting squashed.

Ended up feeling very very odd all evening- had to get dh to help me in and out of the bath and was very uncomfortable all night.

Can't remember feeling this strange so early in my pregnancies just cannot imagine being able to keep this baby in for another 11 wks!!

9 days left till 30wks.

Then at 31 wks it's my birthday, at 32 wks I'll be at champneys spa at 33 my friend is having an elcs so I'm having her dd for the day, at 34 England are playing one of their world cup matches and that only leaves 6 wks so that's how my countdown goes

LCRLCR · 17/05/2010 08:12

Morning ladies, thank you all so much for the good wishes, we had the most perfect day. No hitches, sunshine and a room filled with love and laughter. I did however find the first dance excruciating being sober!! My dress showed baby bump off loud and proud and I still can't quite believe that I am now LCM (though I think i'll change my name very slowly - it's quite weird to get head round)

Postign pix to profile now - there are already hundreds on Facebook. Lovely for both sets of grandparents who live overseas to feel bubs kick and see the bump before she arrives in....gulp...exactly in 3 short months

And speaking of lady gardening - I did have a pre-wedding bikini wax and it hurt like hell. I had left the garden unattended these past 27 weeks and ouch ouch ouch!

Here's hoping the volcanic ash doesn't scupper honeymoon plans...

xx

LCRLCR · 17/05/2010 08:15

OMG I referred to bubs as "she" yet we are on team surprise.....spooky! Mother's intuition?

starshaker · 17/05/2010 08:21

LCR i saw your pics and you look stunning. Very glowy. Im a big believer in mothers intuition.

I have my consultant appointment today along with another scan (yay cant wait). Gonna try and convince them to start me at 36/37 week so i dont miss dd's first day at school.

Alicetheinvisible · 17/05/2010 09:00

Morning ladies

LCR/LCM congratulations

We went down to Kent yesterday to see friends and it was lovely and even got a boit of sunshine! The trip home was a bit rubbish though as i started getting some very strong Braxton Hicks whilst still on the M2, and by the time we got on the M11 i was in agony. Persuaded DH to stop at some services so i could have a walk around which helped a bit (as did the big bar of Galaxay caramel) and was ok pretty much by the time i went to bed, but it was a bit of a toss up whether we went home or to Addenbrooks maternity unit! I had felt that the baby had been lying transverse for a couple of days so i think it was just moving as it now feels much more comfortable.

I think if i get many more days like that i will speak to the MW (not got app til next wed) Anyway 28weeks today
