Morning all- lilmiss, congrats on your low risk- its very relieving.

Silver- the surgery is linked to my work, so there are only 1400 patients on the books compared to 14000 normally, but we still use all the NHS facilities including the midwife.

I shall be complaining- not least as they reckong I may be able to claim back the cost of the private 12 wk scan.

I hope everyone is feeling well today and that the colds have disappeared overnight!

nymphadora · 28/05/2010 08:49

Well done Elsa

Hermya321 · 28/05/2010 09:11

Thanks floozie they are alot cheaper than i thought

shieldbug · 28/05/2010 10:02

blergh! I've got some sort of stomach upset and can't stray too far from a loo! Called the gps who were really unhelpful then the mw who was brilliant and reassured me no end. Seems as long as I rest and drink plenty of fluids sproglet should be fine. Phew! tiredfeet hope you feel better from your cold soon. Nymph good luck with the appt. Thinking of you.

Glad to see so much good news about low risks, healthy babies and strong movements. Roll on my scan on Tuesday! I've decided to go for a surprise on the gender front, but might not be able to resist trying to sneak a peak at the relevant bits!

Like lots of you, I've got a ban on buying anything until after the 20 week scan, but reckon I may go a bit nuts then and spend spend spend!

PatsyIsPreggers · 28/05/2010 10:11

Morning all

Had our scan yesterday afternoon, and it was wonderful! got a fab picture of the baby and it looks like it's waving at us! We didn't find out if it's a boy/girl as we wanted a surprise and luckily it wasn't flashing at us!

Went to mothercare afterwards with the intention of buying first little outfit but got so sidetracked with prams that we ended up not buying anything! Poor baby!

We've just moved to a new village in January and our neighbour came round last night and said she would take me to introduce me to the new twins in the village, which was lovely . They're 3 weeks old and absolutely adorable. Got to sit cuddling them each in turn for about an hour and got on well with the Mum, so it's nice to know there's someone else with little ones nearby for when ours comes along.

Turns out the whole village is excited about me having this baby too! Didn't realise I was such a source of excitement .

I say village, it's really a hamlet. The main attraction is the Parish notice board!

Sorry, huge long post...

Elsa good on you for complaining!

Mamjo are you feeling ok this morning? No nasty side effects from the sandwich I hope.

lili good news on triple test. We also got ours back yesterday and all seem fine.

Silversky good news on your good scan too

PatsyIsPreggers · 28/05/2010 10:16

Hope you recover from your tummy bug soon Shieldbug. Sounds rubbish.

sam12 · 28/05/2010 10:29

Thanks nymph that has reassured me a bit- as I teach secondary I will carry my classes on and for the first two weeks will be helping my replacement settle in and build up relationships with the students.

mamjo it isn't been ungrateful if you have made that decision- well that is what I have tried to tell myself my in-laws looked horrified that someone had bought something when they have respected my decision and held off- oops!

floozie I made the decision that I wanted to use reusables the other day but was overwhelmed when went to research them. There are some really good web sites but it still would take a while to wade through it all. Anyone any tips?

Hope you all well

RooBear · 28/05/2010 11:39

morning all, I want more clothes and don't know if I'm just being greedy or not! DH is ok about it, I'm trying to get long tops, jersey dresses and skirts with elastic waist bands so i can wear them for a long time after as well, if I throw a lot out of older stuff do you think I can justify it?! (I realise i'm trying justify it to myself

nymphadora · 28/05/2010 11:41

Sam12 So far nappy wise they advise that all in ones are no good for new born and take longer to dry . That is the limit of my research. I used them with dd1 and had all in ones (still have some ) but I just got them from Boots as thats all there was. Dd2 didnt agree with them and she used to wriggle out .Oh and velcro is better than poppers in the middle of the night!
We have a nappy adviser locally so will grill her!

Had GP appt. Heart & lungs are fine. Saw differnt GP and he looked and eventually said well it looks like it could be the meds but if I have to change over he wants it controlled which may mean being in hosp to do it. Possibly Day Unit. He suggested bringing forward consultant appt to next week (got one on Tues) and seeing what they suggest as they have more power to bring in other consultants if needed.

Hermya321 · 28/05/2010 12:05

Nymph Gosh sounds like you're getting somewhere at last, you thought it would be your meds that were causing the reaction didn't you.

OP posts:
AbFabT · 28/05/2010 12:09

sam, I've gone to www.thenappylady.co.uk, emailed, and they send you a questionnaire to find out your preferences, your drying facilities, stuff like that, then send you their recommendations for which reusables to get. Just got mine back, which is great, though I would say I really would like to actually see and feel the actual nappies before I buy them. We had a quick look at the Baby Show last weekend, but didn't really have the time to research as much as I wanted. I'm thinking I might do disposables for the first few weeks, then go to the Baby Show in London in October. I think they have other fayres around, or specific shows about reusable nappies, but I haven't found any yet. Agree with you - it's overwhelming!

nymphadora · 28/05/2010 12:13

hermya but now I have to worry about hospital!

Think we are going to Hay but have to come back Mon as hosp on tues. Will see if they will sell the tickets on as they were popular events,

PatsyIsPreggers · 28/05/2010 12:17

Poor you nymph with all your appointments. Hope the consultants can give you some better answers next week, but as Hermya says, at least you may be getting somewhere now. Fingers crossed for you.

AbFab that nayy lady website looks really useful. Thanks for the tip!

floozietoozie · 28/05/2010 12:57

Nymph enjoy Hay and try to relax and not overdo it - get that wheelbarrow!!

More scans, you lucky people. I am only 18 weeks today though. Or rather - 18 weeks today, hurrah!

Having a dinner party tonight do much shopping and cooking (for DP to do he's the chef).

Hermya321 · 28/05/2010 13:35

Oh sorry Nymph didn't really think about that side of things, I was more thinking that it must be good to have a bit of progress.

nymphadora · 28/05/2010 13:49

I'm ok with hospital appts but am struggling with the thought of staying in & having c-section without having to go in other times.

SilverSky · 28/05/2010 15:35

Hope you feel better bugs.

Considering we had a buying ban til post 20 wk scan, am not actually 20 til Monday, that has now extended! Was going to go and buy some stuff on offer in Boots but bottled it !!!

Is this normal?

For those that are buying Tommee Tippee website has offers on and if you join their parent club you get 20% off but don't know if that includes stuff already reduced. I liked the look of the steam steriliser and the sound& movement monitor thing. In fact I just really like all their stuff.

Keep getting feelings in my tum. Not sure if bubs or not!!!

My wardrobe for work is rapidly decreasing with the rapid expansion of my bump!! Going to have to splash out on new tells soon and they will have to be maternity ones. Not sure if i prefer the over the tum numbers or the expndong waist variety. Dilemma or wot?

SilverSky · 28/05/2010 15:48

Tells should read trousers!

shieldbug · 28/05/2010 16:13

silversky I have been in maternity trousers for ages and I found that the expanding waist jeans quickly became too tight. On the other hand, I bought a black smart pair of trousers from Next with an expanding waist and they have been brilliant. Over the bump jeans have the problem that if the elastic part slips down, it can make your bump very uncomfortable. I bought some from mothercare and they shrank after 2 washes (despite following the washing instructions) and the band now doesn't fully go over my bump. Yesterday involved me hiking the band up at frequent intervals to try to relieve the pain!
Hope this is of some use in your decision-making.

Om a different note, I think I'm already feeling a bit better after sleeping most of the morning and watching Sherlock Holmes this afternoon! I just wish sproglet would move again to reassure me (s)he is ok.

tiredfeet · 28/05/2010 18:55

nymph gosh you've really had a lot to worry about this time. I hope the consultant can get you some answers or at least get things moving for you.

I got some fantastic black linen trousers with a slim elastic band round the top from blooming marvellous for work, they're so incredibly comfy and seem to stay up on their own yet have room to grow. I would definitely recommend to people looking for work trousers. I'm stuck on work shirts though, they all seem very low cut and part of my job is public facing so I really don't want my cleavage on display...

another shopping question I hope someone can help me with - I have finally decided to relax and buy the first things for baby. I thought I'd start with a couple of sleepsuits as I think I need DH's wallet with me for all the big stuff . The problem is that we're having a surprise but all the 'unisex' newborn stuff seems so dull and beige. Has anyone found any nice cheery newborn stuff that is not gender-specific?

hope you all have lovely bank holiday weekends

nymphadora · 28/05/2010 19:21

I only have jeans & combats but have some under which aren't quite under yet & some over which have just stopped falling down so I think it depends on your shape. I have a couple of tops but tend to wear normal ones .

Anyone else struggling with food? Some things make me feel or be sick and no appetite got others. Baby seems to like cheese, toms, fruit & crisps. Had craving for KFC last night ( am supposed to be veggie ) but tonight only fancy chilli GB and no where sells it ( or ingrediants) in town can't think what else to eat

SilverSky · 28/05/2010 19:22

Fraid not. It's White or cream or beige.

I even think yellow iz for gals and green is for boiz.

SilverSky · 28/05/2010 19:23

Thx bugs and others for the tips.

NinthWave · 28/05/2010 19:42

tiredfeet I've found that almost ALL my maternity tops are coming up as indecently low-cut - I've just bought lots of plain vests to wear underneath them!
