P.S. sorry to hear Shieldbug. What line of science are you in? Have been having hopeful dreams of my little girl growing up to be a scientist, so you're my idea of a heroine right now! Hope you can soon find something that works.

nymphadora · 27/05/2010 14:08

SamB Thats not too bad then, quite sensible really. I worked with a teacher who came back in September for 2 weeks and it didnt really work.

shieldbug How frustrating!

lizkin Later on it got v difficult!

Lizkin · 27/05/2010 14:11

Ooh, just read back in the list and read about your PhD Shieldbug - now I know!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 27/05/2010 14:40

Shieldbug-doh!! So frustrating. Fingers crossed the next results hold more of a break through moment.

Mamjo- I'm sure it will be fine, speak to your mw or gp if you have any concerns. If it was a bought sandwich I would go back and give them your full hormonal tirade

nymph- I really really hope they can make you feel better soon

abfab- thanks for the m + p heads up- will go and have a look.

Lizkin and samb glad today has been a good news day. For you!

I'm shattered but chilling as ds finally asleep hurray!!

nymphadora · 27/05/2010 14:46

SamB I meant came back with class responsibility!

lilsteel1 · 27/05/2010 14:52

wow we have all been busy on here today... I have been shopping for Logan, bought one wee outfit and that is it. I am not going down the road of going mad with baby things can do that once he is here

BackAgain · 27/05/2010 15:42

I know it has been busy on here today. I have started several posts and then been distracted by work (how terrible!) only to find the conversation has moved on apace when I look at my post again.

Just wanted to say congratulations to all those who have had their 20 weeks scans, I still haven't decided whether to find out sex when I have mine in a couple of weeks. And good luck to all those who have theirs soon.

Was very happy that I felt the baby move the other night - whilst watching the Lost finale - very distracting and am now a bit lost as to the ending of Lost!

Sorry to hear a few of you aren't feeling so good especially Nymph - I hope it all gets sorted soon and you find out what is wrong. I have had a few incidents of fainting and dizziness due to low blood pressure and it is not fun at all.

babybunting2010 · 27/05/2010 16:04

Hi All,

Only just managed to catch up with everybodies news! Can't get comfortable at work at the moment, dependant on the way I sit my soon to be DD wriggles around like mad, she seems to be awake most of the day and not very often asleep! but am worried that she's wriggling so much when I sit certain ways because it's not comfortable for her!

As a result I end up sitting really uncomfortably all day at work!!!!

Lilsteel, I have had to reign myself in as went a little mad buying pink since Monday- so probably need to stop buying stuff!

xxx

babybunting2010 · 27/05/2010 16:06

Backagain, am so totally and utterly lost by lost that it's not even funny, really dissapointed by the finale!

mamjo · 27/05/2010 16:12

SSOTSS I will be giving them the full serve next week when I next go in there.
I am still feeling fine so think that it was probably a whole load of worry over nothing. Phew.

I have a 3 day long wedding this weekend where I know that everyone will be wasted by 8pm everynight and I'll be sat in the corner getting angrier and angrier, then will have to listen to all the stories about what a great wedding it was for the rest of my life whilst only being able to remember that I was on a totally differnt planet (sobrianus) - I really miss being able to have a few drinks on weekends like these.

Never mind, I really should stop moaning about not drinking. It will all be worth it come October!!!!!

BackAgain · 27/05/2010 16:17

babybunting I know what you mean my husband has given up trying to explain it to me

sam12 · 27/05/2010 16:51

nymph why didn't it work? It is just that I am a teacher and I have told them that I will come back for two weeks in September with classes.

I too am going to head to mamas and papas see what's on offer! I still haven't bought one thing but someone did buy a presant- was slightly annoyed that they had bought something for the baby before I had! But know I am just been silly

mamjo · 27/05/2010 17:03

ooh sam12 I know just what you mean. We had decided not to buy anything yet, but whenever we visit his parents they give us a little pack of babygrows or socks or something, which is really lovely of them, but a little bit of me gets a bit annoyed that they are doing it when they know that we have made a decision not to. I keep telling myself that I am being ridiculous but it still bothers me.

mamjo · 27/05/2010 17:05

I just read my last post and realised what an ungrateful little madam I have become!!

Elsa123 · 27/05/2010 17:19

Mamjo- thats your perogative!!

I went to my GPs to get my blood results. They had a power cut so they could not access any results, but the doc had a brainwave and rang the bloods dept at the hospital and got the results read out over the phone. At the time of the bloods I also did not have an iron problem and he thinks I just need to rest more. Which I would go with as I feel as tired this morning as I did last night, despite sleeping really well.

Anyway I then went through the level of care I?ve received up to date including the mw's entry in my notes that she?d discussed things with me when she hadn?t, my last appointment (2nd only at 19 weeks)lasting 9 minutes where she was unhelpful in her synopsis of hospital facilities etc etc, the hospital not providing a 12 week scan or bloods because they forgot and my belief that the mw did not forward on my notes to get the appointment as she sounded like she was lying to me. So, he agreed it was very bad care and he promised that the second half of my pg would be better and is referring me to the John Radcliffe in Oxford (the mw told me my only option was Stoke Mandeville or High Wycombe midwife led unit which and she basically recommended Stoke as 'I'd have to go there anyway if there was a problem' and I might want to be there if I thought I was the type of person who needed pain relief-said in a way that suggested those requiring analgesia were weak..... He said the letter would go off today and added my mobile number to the letter so they could ring me. He then advised me to call the hospital myself and tell them I was being referred, and arrange an appointment to go and see them and discuss facilities etc. He strongly recommended that hospital and I would like to go there and, if the care is good, then stick around down here.

Also, the doc asked me to write to the practice manager explaining the poor level of care and he thinks I have a good case to claim back the cost of the 12 week private scan. He said that they at the GP clinic had many a battle with Hthat mw and her poor continuity, but its hard to get rid of someone unless they do something as obvious as punching you. He said the NHS has more of a tendency to oil a squeaky wheel. That said, complaints going in are better than nothing.

So there you go! Silver Sky I thought this may interest you on the old services and locations front.

nymphadora · 27/05/2010 17:50

sam12 2weeks at the start oftheSeptember term settling in a class to then hand over made things more complicated. Plus she took a year so the following Sept was the same. Luckily the mat cover was offered another post within the school and the second time was covered internally as it would have been a difficult slot to fill

Tyson86 · 27/05/2010 19:39

Hello all, had my scan today and it was great, sonographer was abit rough but i got to see the screen this time so cant complain. She i9s still a little girl and everything looks fine and healthy. Im very happy and got 4 lovely photos of her face, although she looks like she is picking her nose

tiredfeet · 27/05/2010 20:18

elsa I'm glad you saw a sensible doctor. Yes do complain, my mum works in the nhs and says that everyone can know that someone is useless/ problematic but the only way to stop it being ignored is if enough people complain.

I have a horrible cold and I'm feeling glum . I met up with a group of friends at the weekend and one of them had a cold, and now both me and the other pregnant girl there have the cold . I knew it would happen as soon as she said she was suffering!Although when baby does cute little wriggles it does kind of help me forget how grim I feel.

am also tempted by the mamas and papas sale, I think its about time I bought something for the baby, some people look shocked when I say I haven't bought anything yet!

moonstorm · 27/05/2010 20:42

Yay Tyson!

Had my scan as well, all is good so can relax. I have an anterior placenta, which I was sure I hadn't as I have felt so much movement, but thinking of it, none of the movements are in the centre! Does anyone have any experience of this? Baby was in an awkward position, so sonographer hed to press hard a bit...

Next job now is to get to full term (after prem ds last time)!!!

Tyson86 · 27/05/2010 21:11

i have no advice on the anterior placenta but congrats on the scan moonstorm and good luck getting to full term.

My baby is in breech position, im right in assuming this does not matter in the slightest just yet arent I?

Hermya321 · 27/05/2010 21:47

Elsa I'm glad you're finally getting somewhere with this, it's not brilliant when the basics aren't even covered like getting appointments. Hopefully your new hospital will be better. If not I'd suggest complaining very very loudly. Often thats the only way to get through sometimes.

I've been drooling over some weenotions on their website. I showed them to DH and he raised his eyebrow and said 'well at least they look a bit more interesting than disposables'. I'm going to make an appointment with the local advisor so we can have a good old chat with them and work it all out in our heads.

ellabella2 · 27/05/2010 22:23

moonstorm I also have an anterior placenta. At my private scan the sonographer was really helpful and said that it is a perfectly normal position. As long as it is not low lying i.e. not near the cervix it can be front, back or side.

I have started feeling movements in the last couple of weeks (I am now 20+4). To start with they were mostly low down and on the left side (my placenta was slightly more to the right/front apparently)Now I am getting kicks at the top and pretty much all over my bump . I think as the uterus/baby grows the placenta is relatively smaller so provides less cushioning??

Hope this is not total waffle and sort of what you were after?

floozietoozie · 27/05/2010 22:26

Moonstorm you can join me and dontstopmenow on the premwatch! How early was your DS?

After all the nappy talk on here, I'm being swayed towards trying out reusables. I was thinking of it last time but didn't get the chance to investigate it in time, and with all the hospital stress there was no way I could do it once DS had arrived. I like the idea in theory. The amount of choice is a bit scary though. Having said I don't really need anything, I'm starting to think it would be nice to have a really lovely changing table/station, rather than the perfectly serviceable but rather plain £15 Ikea one we had last time. It's still in DS's room as I only stopped putting him on there on it a few months ago - it's supposed to be up to the age of one, oops.

Elsa, if you have the energy, do complain - you may save someone else from poor care at the very least.

SamB glad you're immune. What a relief.

Tyson it was you asking about birthing pools before, wasn't it? I was going to use Birthpool in a Box, which you can see here.

I went to Mamas and Papas the day before the amnio. I was feeling so dreadful, just crying lots, and I thought, although it could have been a big mistake, I was going to buy some maternity clothes as a sort of act of faith in the baby and that everything would be ok. It was definitely the right thing to do because I felt better after. And I now own a lovely pair of jeans and a pair of knee-length jean shorts as a bonus.

Oh that reminds me, Hermya yes I did get the results, on Monday. All fine, thank god. Just waiting for the longer results next week where they examine the whole chromosome sequence to check for rarer problems, but I'm not going to worry. Think the baby has endured enough stress for now.

SilverSky · 27/05/2010 23:01

Hey elsa indeed interesting. Am curious as to your surgery?

Def do complain. Such a poor attitude should be dealt with. Clearly that mw is not happy in her job and certainly lacking in people skills ! Let's not even talk about her natural charm at putting first timers at ease.

Nearly forgot ! Scan went well. Even if sonographer suffers from lack of personality. Really took the edge off. Flavour of the bubs is unknown tho Husband and I have a feeling and turns out he and his mum have even got a blooming bet going!!!!

lilmissmummy · 27/05/2010 23:50

Wow, I havent been here for ages and it has taken me hours to read through what everyone has been up to!

Great news about all your scans and positive test results. I havent got mine until 10th (I will be 20+4 by my scan dates and 21+5 by my period dates)

Sorry that some of you are feeling rubbish and having problems with work.

Quick update from me, I got my triple test results with a 1 in 20000 chance of downs and very low risk for Edwards, Spina Bifida and Multiple Sclerosis. So one less thing to worry about. I still have an inny belly button which is getting smaller by the day. An enormous bump though!
