lilsteel you are in the right place - congratulations! There's another October thread too if you're feeling bold!

Good luck for scans today people! Congrats jenimoo! Mine's not till 3rd June...sigh...had a dream that I just by accident had a doppler from work (?!) and was using it to try to find the heartbeat (couldn't, except for a fleeting second) and then noticed it had a sort of counter on it that was ticking along so work would know I had used it - argh!!!! Clearly need that scan date to arrive.

Good luck for today abfab!!!!!!

Sorry to those feeling rough/teary. Hang on in there floozie nearly there...

Feeling sick again this morning...on the ginger beer...

is anyone here like me that is shared led care... i dont see my midwife unless ... well i have seen her once and an OB once in 20 weeks.

is it normal for shared led care?

DillyDora · 20/05/2010 11:00

Ooh, chicky I don't think I know what shared led care is? You should have got a sheet explaining all the antenatal appts - when they happen and what they're about. Did you get that? I saw mw at 10 wks, scan at 12, had to see drs at 16 wks but now back to mw for 25 wk .....

jennimoo · 20/05/2010 11:06

Where I was living at first in this pregnancy I just saw the midwife, but when I moved (in the same NHS trust area...)at 12 weeks the new midwife told me here they alternate, one appointment its the midwife, one the GP. Is that 'shared led care'?

Nymphadora · 20/05/2010 11:11

lil Similar to me then, AM on dc3 but new partner & first 'planned pregnancy'

I'm only on consultant care but may see hospital midwives if everything ever goes smoothly. I'm seeing them every 4 weeks and GP inbetween. I'm hgh risk though so if you are low risk & not your first they won't see you very often

lilsteel1 · 20/05/2010 11:26

shared care is a obstration and midwife led care. I did get the sheet for appointments however midwife cancels saying well you have seen a OB no need to see me too, I am having to see the OB because my BMI is 41. I just think i am fed up of the midwife acting like i know what to to, I dont this PG is the first where i have had any scan, appointment infact anything, oft next scan is wednesday so i am at 20 wks + 5 then and still not heard heartbeat. never mind another 20 wks and i dont need to deal with them

DillyDora · 20/05/2010 11:34

O flip lilsteel that's rubbish. Not everyone gets to hear the heartbeat - seems to depend where you have your care. If you're not happy complain to PALS at the hospital...

Nymphadora · 20/05/2010 11:41

lil I have just changed from shared to consultant as I didnt get on with my MW and felt v fobbed off. It may be worth asking about changing MW

lilsteel1 · 20/05/2010 11:58

can i change midwife??? i did not know that

I live in Scotland i did not mention that sorry so maybe things are diffrent up here lol will look into changing

thank you MNers for the help

Nymphadora · 20/05/2010 12:20

I spoke to the MW number I had and asked. As there is only one MW for my town I changed to consultant only care and am seen at the hospital.

RooBear · 20/05/2010 12:21

afternoon, wow you guys are chatty this morning! welcome newbies. Congrats jennimoo have any of you experienced pain? I've been really uncomfortable the last couple of days, nothing really sharp just a dull ache which won't go anyway, is this stretching in order for the baby to start moving?

Nymphadora · 20/05/2010 12:24

I'm getting stabbing at my bladder? cervic? somewhere inside anyway. only a couple of times a day.

lilsteel1 · 20/05/2010 12:29

roobear the physio class i was at say a pain like that is called round joint pain and it is due to baby growing, but if it goes on for a lenth of time or is all the time i would get it checked

DillyDora · 20/05/2010 12:36

listeel after I saw your post I checked some stuff out on the intienet and found that what I had thought was persistent wind must be this ligament pain thingummy should probably lay off the Windeze then...

lilsteel1 · 20/05/2010 12:45

Dillydora i thought it was that too till this physio class, which i must say ladies was amaing... there are two types of this ligament a front and a back one and they conncet the womb to the pelvis so as things move they streach but the get sore

it needs to be watch though as can mask the pelvis moving, she advised that if the pain continues that they can give you a bandage to keep you together lol

Hermya321 · 20/05/2010 12:46

Abfab how did your meeting go?

OP posts:
shieldbug · 20/05/2010 12:54

I'm on consultant care which means that the mws have told me they don't want to see me any more. Presumably I then get a complete stranger at the birth.Like you Nymph I have an appt every 4 weeks to check I'm still ok.

Regarding pains, I get lots of stretching pains (at least I think that's what they are) that seem to be vertical and along the sides of the bump. I also get lots of aching, especially after doing too much. Since my bump is HUGE (as I've posted before- it's 2 months larger, if you see what I mean), I'm experiencing now what the rest of you will get later!! My belly button has almost turned inside out- will I be the first? (I have to have some claim to fame on this thread!!)

Good luck to all those with scans. Good news all round I hope. Congrats jennimoo. Any names picked out yet?

DillyDora · 20/05/2010 13:09

Shieldbug I'll be at your birth not that I'm a mw....

That's the pain for sure, the side pain on my right side and it would appear to go away but really make me catch my breath when I stood up. Vay interesting, thanks lilsteel - nothing we can do to help it is there? We used to have a physio class like that at my hospital but they've cancelled it.

However, I am still a gassy gasball...it cannot be denied...

lilsteel1 · 20/05/2010 13:12

Dillydora it is the pelvic floor that needs work and taking care when moving, not just getting up and moving. we have to stand up straight then walk off, it was hard not to laugh at that part, and keeping the pelvis level - no stooping to the front or back and doing the PG waddle

DillyDora · 20/05/2010 13:15

Why thank you, this is most useful! I worry about my pelvic floor, I don't think I'm doing it right and actually find it really hard to squeeze those peepee muscles - must be 100s of years of cystitis and the 2 operations I had on my urethra cos I couldn't pee - they've put the fear of god into me and now I can't clench my pelvic floor!!! Er...should maybe mention this to someone in the healthcare professional line...

AbFabT · 20/05/2010 13:37

Welcome, lilsteel.

Congratulations on your daughter, jennimoo.

tiredfeet, sheesh, that sounds VILE. I am stunned they all get away with it. So so sorry it was so bad for you, but really glad your periods came back and you conceived quite quickly. This baby is more important than that stupid job.

Thanks everyone for your support and good wishes. I know I haven't really gone into the details of what my issues are at work, and I don't want to give too much away in case I could get in trouble for doing so, but in a nutshell, I've been doing my job for nine years, and had no complaints at all. I also haven't had a sick day in all that time, which I think helps illustrate my work ethic, and how serious things are for me now that I am signed off by my GP.

The week before I go on honeymoon (having made no secret of the fact that DH and I would be trying for a family on honeymoon) my manager informs me one of my colleagues is now in charge of me and my projects. I've only reported directly to him, and have managed my projects for the last nine years by myself - so this was pretty much a slap in the face and a demotion (though my pay remains the same, at least). I objected, but he says he can manage the department how he likes. He also said he needs to justify her salary! (Though he denies this now, of course!) The girl he's put in charge of me hasn't got a clue, but has gleefully rubbed my nose in the fact that she is now my line-manager, belittles me, patronises me, etc etc, and I am micro-managed to within an inch of my sanity. A very unfair situation, a humiliation, and very stressful, but they wouldn't change anything, and she continued to patronise me. There is clear and definite favouritism of her over me (and some politics and personal relationships involved), but of course, he refutes that, and I can't prove it. After four months of this, I went to my GP and got signed off with work-related stress.
Anyway, today's meeting, the manager, my union rep and the head of Personnel were there. Manager stuck to his guns, refuses to acknowledge what an obvious humiliation this is for me, and won't budge, but does let on that this micromanager has accepted she's handled things badly and would like to make things work. Well, that's something, but why did it take four months (well, five if you include the fact that I've been off for the last month) for her to admit that, and why did he do nothing about it sooner. I have zero faith that things will be better, as she's made it clear how she likes playing the boss of me, and the damage is done. She can say the right things to make it seem like she is sorry, but I know she is just embarrassed that the first person she's put in charge of, she's caused to go off on work-related stress. And she still hasn't the experience or expertise to understand the job I do or the projects I run, so it's very dodgy why she got this managerial position, when I've been doing the job for nine years, and doing the job well. The manager tells me the job is developing, and my point is, well what about MY career progression then - why are the opportunities given to the person who deals with A, B and C, when I deal with D, E and F, and the new projects are clearly under the D, E and F sphere? This is clear to everyone, but the manager just says it's not like that.

The Personnel officer was really nice, and told me she'd like me back at work, but that my health was far more important and she could clearly see what this was doing to me, and she more or less suggested I get some more time off with the GP, and come back in 10 days for another meeting with the same people as today, plus the micromanager, and if I still felt things were awful, it would be a better time to consider making a formal complaint and going down the grievance procedure route then. Phew. I'll cross that bridge then - for now, I have ten days off, and that is good.

Please don't quote this in replies - I might get MNHQ to delete this post sometime, just in case.

Sorry that was so long!

Xavielli · 20/05/2010 13:42

FWIW, I have only had midwife lead care with all of mine (haven't seen a doctor apart from at the 6 week postnatal check) and neither time did I know any of the midwives that delivered my baby. So if you're anything like me you will be delivered by a stranger anyway.

I try and do my pelvic floor exercises but they seem to be attached to my eyebrows, so I end up giggling. It's probably a good sign that I don't wet myself when laughing however

Loads of lovely reassuring stretchy pains and swishy movements here. Starting to love being preggers, even if I do look about 28 weeks already.

I've done it... I gave in and bought something for my baby! It bodes well that it was something from my list however and not a frivolity I got a little hat and matching scratch mitts in white from mothercare with little teddy faces. It's this seasons equivolent of the hat I had when DS was born, must be popular as he will be 6 this year!

Xavielli · 20/05/2010 13:49

Abfab, it all sounds so stressful! It must be awful to have someone who knows less than you come and tell you how to do your job, it makes no sense. It sounds like the P.O listened to you however, and 'He' is trying to pass the buck, which just makes him look guilty imo. Atleast you have another 10 days of peace and maybe having the 'miniboss' there at the next one will scare her into making some changes.

KSal · 20/05/2010 13:51

wow, AbFab, that's a nightmare situation. It sounds incredibly stressful... I can totally understand why you would have been finding that situation unbearable. It almost sounds like your boss is trying to force you to quit.

sheildbug i think technically i have consultant led care... but all my appointments are with the same community midwife... the chances of her being at the hospital when i actually pop are little to none as i don't think the community midwives spend much time in the hospital. Certainly last time DD was delivered by a total stranger.

DillyDora · 20/05/2010 13:53

Abfab thanks for the update. I think for the PO to say right out - take another 10 days and then come back and make a formal complaint - which is what it boils down to, is a clear sign that she can see what is happening here. And yes, all very well for microm girl to say 'oooh, I really want to make it all better' now when she could have said that months ago. Bah. People. Rubbish. Ok, laaaaaarge cup of tea and a biscuit/muffin/cupcake for you. Well done for getting through it.

Aw Xav that sounds sweet. I love being preggers too, I didn't know if I would but I do.
