@splodge77 - someone gave me their seat on the tube when I was about 8 weeks pregnant Shock.

Not sure if it was because I was female, older than he was or just looking like death warmed up!

mummychicken · 25/08/2010 20:31

mama jobi I potty trained DS at 1.10 and he took 4 days but it has taken him till today (2.10) to do a poo in teh toliet after trying bribery with sweets, ignoring, praising, getting annoyed (which I know you shouldn't do). Finally a second attemtp at a sticker chart with the reward of a toy he choose seeems to have worked. However tomorrow is another day....

This seems a really odd gripe about pregnancy but are any one elses nails getting in the way? I was on holiday and the loo had a recessed push button and my ridiculously fast growing nails meant I had real problems flushing! My nails seem to be from Ground Hog Day, I cut them short and the next day they are long again. Loving my shiny hair though!!

gallicgirl · 25/08/2010 21:14

I'm really enjoying having long, strong nails for the first time in my life.

I think I'll treat myself to a French manicure if I make it to the weekend without breaking one.

MacMomo · 26/08/2010 10:59

berry - like the names you're thinking about, especially Miles Philip, sounds just right. I'm also knitting furiously and have found my inner Delia (no talent, just want to bake cakes all the time). I didn't think anyone else under the age of 70 actually did knitting anymore, so I do it secretly and DH promises not to tell!

splodge - no one stood for me on the tube yesterday (rare visit to london from the outer shires), despite definitely displaying bump. if I felt the need, I would certainly ask them to, but I was ok - just disappointed with the men who ranged in age from middle 50s to early 20s.

Had scan yesterday - having a girl! Very excited. DH had violent shock reaction (before we found out the sex!) and nearly passed out in a cold sweat. Not sure if he's cut out to be there at the birth, though he is fine with blood, needles and hospitals normally. Perhaps he was just really worried? I had been having dreams about The Prawn in which it was always a girl, so that's weird.

Sonographer was lovely. She kept saying she had never seen a 20 week baby as active, the scan took forever because it was moving so much and kicking really furiously - more like drunken dad dancing or gymnastics. I did feel a bit vindicated, as I've been feeling movements since 15 or 16 weeks and constant rolling around. I think DH was a bit sceptical that I was talking it up for sympathy.

Work now moving me 250 miles away from DH until Xmas :(, and I have to live in a tiny room with a single bed and no TV. Feeling sorry for myself, but it was expected.

Anyone else thinking about banking umbilical cord blood stem cells? Seems expensive - gimick or potenially important 10 years time?

SalaDo · 26/08/2010 11:40

Hi Hi gallicgirl Grats on a little girl :)

I love the names berrycravings My friend has a DS called Miles and he's a lovely little boy. I like Seth as a name a lil more tho :)

Hows the buzz going walkthedog I love the idea of pushing it round with monkeys in!! :o

mama Astrid is lovely - unusual without being too out there!

Hows the DS crumble . . Imogen (DD) is a nightmare when ill :( . . I couldnt live without my dishwasher! I recomend you get one ASAP!

Jobi Love Nathan and Molly :)

So reluctant to say names before LO is here. People can be so rude but much harder to be rude once the actual baby is here and named iyswim :)

Got my hair cut on sunday and I HATE IT! always had it long . . thought I'd try it short and I feel like a pin head . . Did this last time I was preg (got a fringe cut in) not sure why my hormones make me think these things are good ideas! Time to start googling piccies of hair!!

Hannah1890 · 26/08/2010 11:51

Splodge I think thats great that someone stood up for you, feel like I'm in that awkward face where depending on what im wearing just look a bit fat, yet my balance is getting pretty horrific. Started to wait for young men to move for older people, but feel guilty for doing it. Cant wait to have a proper big bump so no-one can mistake it.
Congratulations to all for scans so nice to hear everyones experiences and thankyou for everyones experience re. babies movements just looking forward for the first time feel him move now. something extra to look forward to.
Love all the names people have said, we've decided on Rory James for our LO. I really liked Noah too but bf wasn't keen at all.

littlehuman · 26/08/2010 12:49

21 + 6

macmomothis is pretty s...to have to spend the rest of your pregnancy far from dh in a little room. good job you ll have your active little prawn with you.
i had similar experiences than you but with the midwife, as she listened the hearbeat , littlegirl was going mental and kicked like a maddo, i also been able to feel her move since week 14 :-) .
never heard of banking stems cells...

people wont get up for me as you cant tell i am pg yet...though i cannot fit in my jeans anymore ( i put a couple of photos on my profile to see how my bump progresses :o )

stenogirl · 26/08/2010 15:50

Week 22+4

Hey girls, it's so lovely to hear all the scan news and whether you're having boys or girls. congratulations to you all. :)
We had the scan nearly two weeks ago now. The baby was waving its arms in front of its face - so cute. I did have a fleeting thought of 'oh f*, there's a human being in there and I've gotta look after that human being' but then it passed. DP didn't want to know the sex and honestly I forgot all about it during the scan.

My hair is growing so fast, I can't afford to get it cut so much, but agree with mummychicken about the nails; mine have never looked so good. Also the pimples seem to have gone. This may be TMI, but my nipples have changed shape, they sorta look like the top of an icing bag and they were all lumpy last week. I massaged them and rubbed Lanisoh on them and the lumps have gone. It did feel how I imagine blocked up milk ducts to feel like... Blush

littlehuman I was in stitches reading that unrealistic expectations thread. I've got loads!

Jobi1 - I like Daniel and Gemma.
Hannah1980 - I love Rory James. Sounds really solid.
berrycravings - I love Miles Philip too.
I used to love that character 'Miles' in This Life...
I like Charlie and Catherine. altho no-one else likes Catherine :( DP likes Callum and Emma.

I adore my dishwasher, littlehuman DP was dead-set against getting one when we did the kitchen up last year. Now he loves it too. he fills it every morning and I empty it before lunch. magic!

Hello gallicgirl and congratulations on finding out you've got a girl

When I lie down, I've got a lovely round bump and I can feel the baby "swooshing" around. Seems most active in the morning when I wake up and before dinner time or maybe I can just feel it more cos my stomach is empty.

littlehuman · 26/08/2010 16:10

stenogirl u must have confused me with someone else, cos we ve got a dishwasher ( it was already in the house when we moved in 3 years ago)
though i think we must ve used it only twice lol(at xmas and at the wedding) , we are never at home, and for the moment its only the 2 of us...but its there for if we need it. :)

love having long nails too , as for haircut a lot of places do cheap or free haircut done by students.thats where i go .try tony and guy they do it in edinburgh.

stenogirl · 26/08/2010 16:20

Hey littlehuman sorry about that mistake.
Good tip about student haircuts...I was also thinking I'd like to ditch the blonde and go brunette, but it may be madcap hormones Grin

I also really need to get going on buying some baby stuff. I've gone to the shops but always get overwhelmed and wonder whether it's just summer gear in the shops. I'm thinking I need to make a list and then bring my sister as she's got loads of common sense.

gallicgirl · 26/08/2010 19:28

Waving babies on scans sound like great fun. I can't wait for movements to be more definite so the OH can feel them too.

Lots of lovely names suggested. I personally really like Seth and Emma is a great name too. OH and I can't agree on names at the moment so will try to wait until after labour and hope OH then agrees to whatever I want!

I've bought a few baby clothes but I think there are a lot of summer clothes still out there. It's a bit of a nightmare buying maternity clothes as apparently size 10 pregnant women don't go to work! I can only find leggings and t-shirts Hmm Not always suitable for the office.

crumblequeen · 26/08/2010 19:44

Loving everyones names - I might need to add more to my list!! Stenogirl Catherine is on my girl list too!

MacMomo there are some knitting clubs in Newcastle which are attended by some pretty glam mummies (I don't fall into that category unfortunately) so think its having a revival!

DS getting better now, we have had our first good day this week, although I can still hear him rolling around in his duvet despite being shattered! DH gone to pick up our camping gas for the weekend - we are going for 3 nights if we survive that long. Quite concerned about DS waking pre-6am in the light for 3 days in a row!

sarrita · 26/08/2010 20:18

Woohoo. Had 20 week scan. Baby all clear and present. But lying along my pelvis, so it was hard to get a good look at its spine. I don't want to know the sex - which was lucky as the way it was lying it would have been difficult.

DH couldn't come :( but I did have DS instead. He was making the sonographers laugh saying "when I was in your tummy it was nice and warm" and asking where the baby keeps the toys.

Lying on my pelvis meant I needed to pee all day. berrycravings the baby might be lying on your bladder - why you need to pee. My sister had the same for a while.

Heartburn yuk! Salado my doc gave me a prescription for Gavascon last time - you should be able to get it for free.

Congrats to all those who learned the sex - very exciting. I was tempted to say "go on lets have a look" but resisted.

Welcome all newcomers and lurkers Wink

MacMomo that is awful re: work. No not banking cord as there seem now to be some alternatives for stem cells other than cord blood. And it's very expensive and apparently you will need help from MW - when they should really be worrying about you and the baby.

My hair is so shaggy now I look ridiculous. Must go and get it cut!

Like the idea of same name of thread but "Part II" so we can find it. Whoever said that.

berrycravings · 26/08/2010 20:42

Hi all,

New horrid development today which I have to share! Suddenly while at work I got the most excruciating (sp) pain near the top left side of my back, so bad all I could do was cry and got so hot thought was going to pass out. Saw our onsite nurse and she said prob baby lieing on a nerve, luckily after eating the pain faded enough to be driven home, but then had 3 hrs of sudden stabbing pain every 15-20 seconds (not as sever as original pain) finally fell asleep for a few hours. I feel fine now, though very drained. Bit embarrased at having to be driven home from work. Please let me know if anyone has experienced anything like this, although I hope noone does.

Love hearing more about the scans, really cheered me up this evening seeing how happy everyone is. Yep my hair is so so long, need to get it cut. Also need to buy a new nail file!

sarrita I hope baby moves from my bladder soon, although this is preferable by far to being on a nerve!

hackneyzoo · 26/08/2010 21:04

I am just bookmarking, haven't been on this thread for a few months but thought I would check in. Hope everyone is doing well, it's good to be half way. I am nearly 21 weeks now I think and have a scan next week, but going to keep the sex a surprise.
Off to catch up on the last 800 posts... Smile

deedee321 · 26/08/2010 21:26

berrycravings, you poor thing, that sounds totally terrifying - am glad it wasn't anything horribly worrying. Not a nice way to spend an afternoon!
We have had such an amazing day - scan was brilliant, so clear, we could see little face and baby jumped about beautifully. We were very excited to find out we are having a boy!! Was such a surprise as for some reason we were both convinced was going to be another girl. We are now having great fun reworking our names lists :)
MacMoma, that is really tough them moving you away at this time, sounds like you are being very strong about it. Suppose you have LOTS to focus on to get you through it, but it is a time you like your home comforts and some fussing from dh!! Hope it goes ok for you.

WalkTheDog · 26/08/2010 21:33

oh wow loads to catch up on, will come back tomorrow to read it all and chat back.

just popped in to check up on the others due scans today - ours went great, lovely place, much nicer than when we had 12 week one done locally, baby having fun in there :) Trip there wasn't as bad as thought, not too car sick inducing and about 2hours once we are across the ferry by our house.

salado haven't seen the buzz yet, my parents live about 4 hours from me, I'd got it 2nd hand from someone nearer them, so dad went to get it. Hoping to go through for a visit next week so will pick it up then.

sarrita · 26/08/2010 21:54

berrycravings I would speak to you MW tomorrow or triage at your local maternity hospital, MW centre.

Sounds very extreme and wouldn't rely on 'onsite nurse'.

Hope you are feeling back to normal now and get a good night's sleep. I would definitely get a pillow between you knees and ankles and make sure you head and neck are properly supported to you aren't twisted or bent at all.

MacMomo · 26/08/2010 22:17

berry poor you! Not had anything like that, sounds pretty extreme. Puts my stretching pains into perspective. Hope you have a comfortable night.

deedee321 · 26/08/2010 22:22

so glad it went well walkthedog, and that journey was not TOO bad! Did you get good pic? I am gazing at mine right now :)

WalkTheDog · 27/08/2010 10:48

wee moan first, sorry! I was sick at 4am Angry, in a none pg state I am very healthy, have some joint problems but cope well, but getting quite fed up of the feeling ill times - although it is 100 times better than it was a few weeks ago. Grr...

yep deedee321 we got 3 lovely photos, one is so cute, hands are up at baby's face and legs are stretched up in the air. Congrats on scan and the boy news. Hope you went to sleep last night and didn't gaze at photo all night!

crumblequeen all the painting will be worth it if you get a dishwasher too :) There is no plumbing for our one in this house and looks a bit too complicated for us to work out, so it is sitting in the kitchen looking pretty Hmm

berrycravings I am knitting too, not very skilled, but I have made a cardigan - going to get OH's mum to help me sew it up. Done a lot of patches for a blanket and now started a very easy all knit jumper. Got a bundle of baby self striped wool in a charity shop for next to nothing, otherwise knitting seems to get quite expensive. Macmomo come out of the closet, loads of people knit :o

welcome gallicgirl, I like pink but why do so many places seem to think that pink is all you want to put a girl in!

splodge77 sweet someone offering you their seat, wasn't sure that still happened much. And hee hee gallicgirl at 8 weeks! Hope you took it.

I am amazed by the fast growing nails too mummychicken. Had heard that they would grow but break easily, mine are looking lovely.

macmomo bet your DH was mortified, glad scan went well. Poor you being moved so far away, are you taking mat leave from xmas?

salado hope you are getting used to haircut, I desperately need mine done, but nobody can recommend a good hairdresser round here, so going to get it cut when go through to see parents and once it has had a decent cut, surely someone can just follow the previous work!

sarrita congrats re scan, and oh DS how cute :o

berrycravings are you still getting that pain? If it happens again run it past MW, these things are often "normal" but it is always worth checking.

Jobi1 · 27/08/2010 11:17

berrycravings do you ever suffer with trapped wind? I do occasionally, the first time I had it I thought I was having a heart attack!

Since being pregnant I have had a similar pain, especially across the top of my bump, and associated tightness and breathlessness. It can last a while and then subsides. Not nice, but I'm pretty sure that's all it is. You should ask midwife though just to see what she thinks.

walkthedog sorry to hear you've been ill Sad, pregnancy is not much fun at times.

Anyone got any nice weekend plans? I am off for the next 6 days, woo! On the down side, we're potty training DS, which I am nervous about...

berrycravings · 28/08/2010 10:25

Thanks for all your support, really helps to have you guys. I went to the doctors yesterday and I have a problem with inflamation between my rib bone and carteledge. Apparently it can happen when not pregnant, but probably did lead to mine. Usually they prescribe drugs for the pain, but I'll have to make do with paracetamol, although he said if gets too much can have co-codamol prescribed. It lasts between a few weeks and a few months and the sudden really bad pain can come on at any time! Hoping it doesn't last too long.

walkthedog poor you being sick still, I only fully stopped at 19 weeks, its so horrid when it feels like its just going on and on. Glad the car journy went ok.

Glad i'm not the only knitter walkthedog and macmomo, any more of us out there? Off to buy the wool for my blanket today, so excited.

So great hearing who is having boys/girls, perhaps when we start our new thread we need to add some of the gender/suprise onto the stats list?

SalaDo heartburn just kicked in for me not tried gavesgon yet, but I was at home and ate ice-cream and that worked a treat and tasted great too!

Jobi1 Good luck with the potty training, I'm off baby shopping today in Brighton and the sun is shining for my afternoon out. Planning on buying a few little outfits for our baby boy Grin

Hannah1890 · 28/08/2010 11:49

Congrats to all having scans!! very exciting.
that sounds awful berrycravings glad baby's ok though, hope doesn't get any worse for you.

I knit too, got taught by my Grandma when I was really young have only ever made scarves before now, but getting into it making things for baby which is exciting!! I made a mistake on ebay a couple of weeks ago (forgot that if you won the bids actually had to pay) lol and ended up with over a kg of mixed wool which was mostly blue, that was week before found out we were having a boy so my bf thinks was my subconcious, but is lucky for us really or my family would have all been getting blue scarves for christmas.

I have had the same problem with maternity work wear gallicgirl I live in Oxford which is truly rubbish for maternity clothes, only have dorothy perkins and a tiny section in red herring which is all size 12 and above. Had to order my work trousers to be delivered, which isn't great as bump seems to have suddenly decided to grow massively in the past 2 weeks. A couple of weeks ago people couldnt even tell I was pregnant, just seems to have come out of nowhere, not that I'm complaining, I quite like it, for the moment anyway.

Ive had really bad heartburn too, midwife told me to eat little and often which did help, but hard to do that when your at all busy.

MacMomo · 28/08/2010 13:04

Heart palpitations making me feel quite unwell, but mf not bothered so I'm trying to eat lots of iron to make sure it isn't that. A little bit of the acid reflux - mum declared she never heard of pregnant woment getting that or heart burn - sounds a bit like women in the 70s got through it with no symptoms or weight gain Hmm.

Have decided I will need a second birth partner for when DH passes out during initial contractions. Yes, he is mortified!

yay for all the knitters! a few months ago I found some gorgeous merino wool/cashmere/microfibre yarn at half price and am making super-soft cardigans, leggings and jumpers. Loving it! They're so small!

I get a maternity uniform from work which is a huge dress, I call it my punishment tent Grin.

have a good weekend
