Am so pleased the scan went well ladybuzz, what a stressful night you must have had.
And littlehuman, so exciting!! We find out one week today! Already have a wee girl so if it's a boy we are going to have to splash out on a new wardrobe for him!!

mummychicken · 19/08/2010 20:08

19 w + 5
splodge When you go for a wee - try to stop mid flow - those are the pelvic floor muscles. (My sister was told when pg not to practise pelvic floor excercises when weeing as some could get "sucked up" - I, for the life of me, cannot see how that would happen or what harm it would cause baby as there is a bloody great plug of mucus in the way!!)but those are the muscles you're targeting.

Try to build up little and often - every time you boil the kettle or every comercial break - I fould that after DS, it made quite a big difference quite quickly - however, I still cross my legs when I sneeze Grin

littlehuman · 19/08/2010 21:16

splodge i have been refer to a physio cos of my pin and needles in my arms and legs and as i was there she gave me some tips about pelbic floor exercises, i didnt even know you had to do this.
she say to stand legs a bit apart but toes facing each other and pretend like you are pulling a really tight pair of jeans up.
hope that helps....or you can do the same exercise on your back.

Jobi1 · 20/08/2010 12:19

Just back from 20 weeks scan, it was fab, all looks good, dates spot on and we're sooooo relieved!! Don't know sex and didn't see anything! Sonographer was fab, talked us through it all every step of the way, which was awesome and made me cry a little bit!

So 20+6 today, all spot on and as it should be Smile Roll on consultant appointment in 3 weeks!

littlegirl many congrats on your news, how lovely!

splodge - re pelvic floor, just try and clench all the muscles around your bum and bits (sorry!) and hold as long as you can, repeat 10 times and do that as often as you remember!

If anyone is in or around Liverpool, I recommend prenantal yoga at LWH - check out yogabumpsandbabies website. No connection just a happy customer Smile

WalkTheDog · 20/08/2010 13:12

good news ladybuzz :o

ooh a liitle girl littlehuman :)

glad scan went well for you too jobi1 :)

Have bought a second hand pushchair, my dad is to collect it for us in the next few days. It is a quinny buzz, can use from birth and most reviews are postive for it, especially the rougher paths I take the dog on. Know it is a bit big and heavy but have an umbrella stroller (got for free :o) for when baby is older and that can be the car puschair if just whizzing round town etc.

Splodge when you feel a sneeze or a cough coming on tighten your pelvic floor muscles (once you've work out exactly where they are!).

This might be too much info, but I am a physio (unemployed since house move) and I have no probs taling up pelvic floors!

Good idea to lie down and be somewhere quiet until you get the hang of the exercise, then as said before do them anywhere, having triggers through the day that remind you are a great idea. Walking into kitchen, washing hands, sitting at traffic lights, nappy change.

First imagine that you are stopping yourself passing wind, then imagine that you are stopping yourself having a pee. Hold, while still breathing and then relax. If you feel you are tightening up your inner thigh or bum muscles you are trying to hard.

Good to practice fast on/off squeezes (this is what you need when you sneeze), and good to do slow, longer hold squeezes (what you need when bladder getting fuller). It is recommended that you only do the mid stream pee stop occassionally - more just to check that you are working the right muscles. You can check you are squeezing the correct ones by having something in there to squeeze against Blush.

There is a new leaflet on pelvic floor to read online on this site , I haven't read it yet www.acpwh.org.uk/content/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=53&Itemid=12, scroll down towards bottom of page. I know I keep pushing this site but I am biased since it is a proper physio one!

WalkTheDog · 20/08/2010 13:14

oops just noticed I wrote taling up pelvic floors!!! Meant to write talking about - I tell you my brain!!!

deedee321 · 22/08/2010 13:57

We have all been quiet for two whole days! Hope everyone is ok. I am getting excited/stressed about scan on Thursday.
Is anyone else making the mistake of going onto the Childbirth forum and feeling seriously scared??!!

sarrita · 22/08/2010 15:50

deedee321 scan on Thursday too. Is this your first?

Best not to think too much about the birth. It's what happens after that is the most important. And it all evens out once you get this precious little bundle that develops and does stuff that is just amazing.

I'm going to try reading the 'hypno-birthing' book before the delivery and see it that helps. Anything's worth a try.

sarrita · 22/08/2010 15:52

Have a serious dried mango addiction. Shame it's so expensive!

Anyone else got cravings or excessive/expensive eating habits?

Rogie · 22/08/2010 16:05

Hello all

38 and 21 weeks with my first pregnancy - due date 11 Jan. Excited and terrified and struggling to get all the reading done with crazy job. 20 week scan revealed the baby has a 'a big tummy' when all other measures were in the middle. Sonographer didn't seem at all concerned so I thought I'd check in - any thoughts?

One last question, looking for good ante natal classes in either Highgate or Crouch end....

Rogie

splodge77 · 22/08/2010 17:04

hiya

snap Rogie! I am due 11th Jan too Smile.
Thanks for all the pelvic floor advice everyone. I will try it all! and might ask GP at my next antenatal appointment. i've been getting lots of practice at trying to hold the muscles when i sneeze or cough as i have a horrible cold at the mo. every cloud has a silver lining i suppose...

Sarrita I have been craving cucumbers and Starburst (or as i like to call them opal fruits) - not at the same time tho. That really would be weird.

Good luck with your scan deedee. hope it goes well. i am trying to avoid thinking to much about the birth - sticking my head in the sand and living in the moment!!

crumblequeen · 22/08/2010 18:32

Welcome Rogie! My DS had a huge tummy at 20 week scan (over 90th centile) when all the other measurements were exactly middle and he was and is absolutely fine so dont think its anything to worry about!

Hope everyone has had a nice weekend - I think I have finally found some maternity jeans that will stay up!

mummychicken · 22/08/2010 20:31

20w +1
deedee splodge with DS I totally focussed on the birth and not the bit afterwards - so much so that I couldn't understand why there was a chinese looking baby in the room ( I have no oriental blood in me nor does DH)and why they kept on giving him to me!!! My brother [hmmm]gave me some good advice - it is like being sick, you body just takes over.

Glad every one is feeling well (as much as poss) I have 20 week scan on Tuesday - not going to find out what brand I'm having!

Jess310 · 23/08/2010 11:01

hi everyone

did anyone have a look at the thread of the day:pregnancy unrealistic expectations.

really funny!especially being my first thats the way i see things too but in the real world it seems "slightly" different lol

crumblequeen · 23/08/2010 12:20

littlehuman I remember reading a similar thread about childbirth when I was pregnant with DS and I had to go to the loos at work as I was nearly crying with laughter and would have looked a bit strange in the open plan office! Reality will hit soon enough!!

mamasunshine · 23/08/2010 13:22

Hi ladies
Congrats on the scan's littlehuman - a pink one Smile and jobi1 Smile
Thanks for the kick sarrita...although I ended up with the perfect excuse not to go last wk Blush! I'd forgotten about my acupuncture app, so went there instead. But doing to aquanatal this Thurs...have put on 4lb's in the last 2 wks Hmm
walkthedog - I had a quinny buzz for ds1 and loved it, also do a lot of walking etc.
deedee321 - try not to read the scary birth stories! But trust me, once you have your baby in your arms, you will not care how he/she got out! I had a traumatic experience with ds1 (due to pre-eclampsia and premature baby), and opted for a home VBAC for ds2. Now TBH I really don't care how they get the baby out, they could cut my legs off if it means baby would be ok! But I will still work towards best case scenario i.e homebirth and take it from there Smile
Welcome and congrats to rogie (my friend had baby with v large tummy measurements and was absolutely fine!) AND jess310 - baby no4 Smile my dream number!

My cravings just seem to be fruit juice, esp pineapple and crunchy nut cornflakes! Really enjoyed my acupuncture last week, I feel a little mellower and my skin is really good still (usually v bad in pg), also blood pressure was good with mw Smile Still waiting to hear from consultant Hmm apparently they have a big back log. I'll ring them nxt wk if still nothing. Getting a bit more energy back now, so will be starting exercise dvd and swimming this week. Also going to make myself do a 30min brisk walk every day...the thoughts are there at least!!

My scan is 2 wks today...can't wait Grin Good luck to all those with imminent scans Smile

HopingCatPlusThree · 23/08/2010 13:31

Congrats to all having scans.

Our scan was last week. All fine with baby but the scan experience ended up a nightmare. Motorway closed so I was 45mins late and DH not there. I was told they couldn't wait for him to arrive so they did scan without him. Baby did not co-operate and kept hiding so I had to be tipped on my side etc to try and get it to turn round and be measured. Then at end I asked if sonographer could write down the sex so DH and I could find out together, but she said she is not allowed to on legal grounds. So she went to have a look in reception for DH but he's still not there. But he text me saying he was there, so I rang him and told him to run! He must have looked funny running through the hospital towards the maternity wing! Thankfully the sonographer waited for him to arrive, then showed us everything on the screen including little boy bits! At least with all that going on I didn't have time to be nervous about whether or not anything was wrong with the baby.

So we're having DS number 2. When we went home and told our daughter (who is nearly 4) she burst into tears because she wanted a girl. It made me glad we'd found out this time, as she is now coming to terms with it. I'd have hated it if she'd cried the first time she'd met her little brother.

I hope everyone else has nice, peaceful scans Grin

HopingCatPlusThree · 23/08/2010 13:35

Sploge 77 and Mama Sunshine, thank you for your notes. MamaSunshine good to know you experienced similar and all was fine. Splodge 77 - seems a long way a way but at the same time there is so much to do!!

I'm sure it will all be fine. Thanks again one and all, this is a very reassuring forum.

Jobi1 · 23/08/2010 13:54

Hi everyone, just checking in Smile

Not much to report really. Am 21+2, still tired and bump really popped out over the last few days. Also seem to be puting on weight in increments of 3lbs, which is not cool. I seem to stay the same for 2-3 weeks, all good, then suddenly jump up. So unless I lose a pound or two, I'm up 11lbs now, sno doing as well as I was Sad That being said, I think my appetite may have lessened slightly, so will have to start being more carefuil. I'm also still tired and achey, wondering where my 2nd trimester burst of energy is to be honest!

The last few days I have been sleeping on my back propped up on pillows and it seems to have helped the hip/pelvis aches a lots which is good. I don't like it that much but it beats the pain!

Got a few days off around bank hol to potty train DS1, which I'm petrified about! Hope it goes ok.

Take care all x

littlehuman · 23/08/2010 15:53

21+3 ohhh dear hopingcat what a day you had!!!at least dh arrived at last so you can find the sex together!

Jobi1 · 23/08/2010 16:04
