Congrats to us all, just got BFP today so no symptoms yet apart from lack of AF. I'm determined to do this pregnancy properly - with DD I fell off a horse and went on a booze cruise to Dublin before I even realised. Facepalm emoticon! Luckily I discovered Mumsnet which has the answers to everything!

NickiSue · 03/05/2010 18:06

Hello all. Unsure of my DD- Will be Jan (Last period November 09 (pcos)) and found I was pregnant last week, clearblue said 1-2wks conception so 3-4wks gp-speak. Little too early to tell but will update with the date asap!
BFP was a bit of a shock actually- we've been ttc for 3.5yrs and were waiting for the next consultant appointment to discuss more fertility help. Only tested after felt crap after two days to rule it out tbh!

I have horrendous nausea but no throwing up, doing a tEsco shop makes me look and feel green, boobs are very sore and my lower back hurts. Different to DS1 but very welcome. Hoping all goes well for everyone during these early weeks x

mummychicken · 03/05/2010 19:34

starberries I think it varies from county to county but in Hants, you just ask for a midwife booking in appointment (midwifes are attatched to the Dr's surgery) - despite what the back of the packet says , seeing the Doctor isn't actually necessary. I didn't like the receptionistes who were all nosey bitches so I changed surgeries (to one nearer my house so it made sense)but kept the same team of midwifes. The booking in appointment for me happened on a sunday at home.I think as women have a right to chose, they have to give you a choice of hospital.

Grimperina I was told it is not cycling as such - more mountain biking because of the jiggling! I go running (well more of a jog/walk/crawl) and intend to carry on as long as possible. I think that if your body is used to it then carry on exercising, but don't start something new (except perhaps swimming).

I see your 1/2 a lager and raise you nearly a bottle of wine!! I really didn't think I was pg!! With DS I didn't know I was pg until at least 6 weeks. I was a bit of a heavy drinker so the norm for me was a bottle of wine, every night AND 20 fags! As soon as I found out I was pg stopped. People kept commenting that I had lost loads of weight (through not consuming god knows how many calories from booze). Little did they know!! DS was a perfectlly good weight and is a bright, chatty and naughty 2 year old - so no harm done

NickiSue · 03/05/2010 19:48

Raise your half a beer, bottle of wine and stake a full night out on the razz last weekend, at least 12 top shelf drinks- the first night out drinking in four years and I choose when I'm pregnant (although didn't know it).

mummychicken · 03/05/2010 20:03

Lets be honest - some of us wouldn't be pregnant at all if it wasn't for booze!!

grumperina · 03/05/2010 20:08

mummychicken and NickiSue - thanks, you're making me feel so much better! (But it wasn't lager, thank you very much - nothing but proper beer for me ). I have drunk a moderate amount all the way throughout TTC, not least because it stops people from asking questions! (Got through a dinner with my parents by sipping on a single glass of wine throughout the evening then doing a cunning swap with DH when parents weren't looking... unsurprisingly, he's up for this for the rest of the pregnancy .) I probably will drink in moderation throughout, but it can be very hard to do so when in public. I know from friends' pregnancies that even strangers can get very judgemental if they see you with a drink in your hand and a bump...

As for cycling: I live in East Anglia, so no danger of mountain biking!

NickiSue · 03/05/2010 20:10

Lmao! Very true

hardygirl · 03/05/2010 20:32

Hi all - congrats to everyone. I'm 38 (the oldest so far), second pregnancy, have a DS and did the test last night. Due 12th Jan, so barely pregnant at all, but have felt pregnant since 26th April. By our reckoning we conceived on 18th - so my hormones went crazy right off the bat! I had the full house - nausea, greasy hair, tiredness, heightened sense of smell, needing to pee all the time. Bit odd really - thought it was all in my head until I saw the blue line come up in 10 seconds flat. Hubby is impressed - we weren't really trying. We were going to start in earnest in May! - Then again, that's what happened last time!

iamaLeafontheWind · 03/05/2010 21:14

Hardygirl same here, we were barely trying since DD only stared sleeping through a few months ago.

The rest of you have no worries - the amount I drank before I found out I was pregnant last time was awful but DD is fine! Had two serious nights out in the first couple of months.

verycherry82 · 04/05/2010 12:33

I hope you don't mind but I've added myself to the list after getting a BFP yesterday afternoon!

My boyfriend and I had only been trying for 6 weeks and thought it would take much longer as I have a 40 day cycle and PCOS! Still, we're absolutely over the moon.

I have no symptoms so far though and feel no different at all. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing?

I'm seeing the GP on Friday and not sure what to expect!

Anyway, congratulations to us all and here's to the next 9 months! x

mummychicken · 04/05/2010 15:13

Is wind a symptom????

I'm a teacher and have just farted while the kids were doing a test in silence.

I gave a little boy a VERY stern look trying to pretend it was him not me!!!

AxisofEvil · 04/05/2010 15:27

Personally I still intend to have the very occasional drink. Apart from anything, until we're ready to go public it is far easier to hide it by having one drink (even if just part of it) and then switch to soft than not drink anything at all which tends to be a big neon flashing light for pregnancy.

In fact generally I intend to take a moderate approach to things. Some of the lists of things you can't eat and can't do in some of the books I've bought are beyond absurd and whilst I obviously don't want to take unncessary risks, I still have a life to run for the next 8 months.

Margie32 · 04/05/2010 19:02

Axis, personally I'm going to do the same as you re. the booze, it was good to hear everyone's opinions.

Mummychicken I love the farting in class story. I'm a teacher too and my wind is making itself known at the other end, I just can't stop burping! In the classroom, out of the classroom, in the staff room - let me tell you, it is SO attractive.

I caved in and did another test this morning. The BFP came up before I'd even had time to put the cap back on, so I'm definitely still PG. Hurrah!

I know we are only "a little bit " pregnant - are you going to keep it secret from friends and family?

I am a bit about telling people this early just in case the worst happens. I don't think it is anyone elses business. With DS I was over 5 months before I started to tell people (I didn't really start to show until 6 months). Although close friends and family knew at 3 months (My mum knew at 8 weeks)

Is it just me?

PS A close friend at work knows- only coz she knew I was ttc and asks most days if I'm up the duff!! My ansewer to her today was hust a smile - so technically she guessed rather than was told!!

Hello everyone, just did a test and got a BFP. This will be my DC3. I have a DD who just turned 3 and a DS who is 1 so am a bit at the thought of 3 under 4! Will add myself on the list, think I am due on 12/1, almost exactly the same due date as DS1! Am not telling anyone in real life just yet so feels nice to share the news on here. Good luck to everyone.

Hope everyones early pg is going well. I've had cramps and morning sickness. Given up ciggies, alochol and coffee all in just 3 days!!

Hoping to have a very boring and uneventful nine months.

Margie32 · 06/05/2010 12:35

Mummychicken I'm not planning on telling anyone for a good long while yet. Ideally not until I'm showing. Last time we told everyone when I was about 10 weeks (even complete strangers!) because it was our first and we were SO excited. But then we lost the baby at 18.5 weeks and it made it even more heartbreaking somehow having to untell people. I also think that some people are going to be quite shocked (and maybe even disapproving) that we got PG again so quickly, so I want to leave a good long space between the sad news of our first pregnancy and the happy news of our second one.

But everyone's different and will do their own thing. I remember that with my first I just couldn't physically keep the news in, I was just bursting to tell people all the time!

mummychicken · 06/05/2010 12:56

asianbabe well done on the booze, coffee and ciggies. I found the ciggies the hardest and ended up using one of those nicotine inhaler things for a couple of weeks.

margie32 that's really sad . I'm a bit wary of telling people before the first scan. I know of people putting pictures of their pregnanct test on face book!

"felt" pregnant last night - a weird sensation in my tummy and felt a bit queasy. Had to drink somke bicarbonate of soda to produce a really big but satisfying burp!

Last time I had to drink bicard to help with indigestion and although it was foul tasting -it was a lot better and cheaper than gavistone

NickiSue · 06/05/2010 13:29

Love our GP service!

Went to see the Dr this morning for the first time since finding out i was pg. I'm down as 5wk+ (clearblue digital predictor) but I have pcos and my last period was November so can't be clear on my date to be honest. My fab GP, who I dealt with for my first pg which didnt work out sadly and DS, and knows I'm worried about another mc, so has promised to ring the hospital himself and arrange an early scan. he has also told me i can book in early with th midwife (theyve dropped it from 10 to 8 weeks here, I'll be in 7+) to get the ball rolling and what not. I've been home less than an hour and the GP has rung me (himself!) to tell me he has rung the hospital, and that because of the person who I will see for my scan (who is my fertility liason specialist too lol!) being away, she wont get in touch until Wednesday next week with an appointment. Just so I knew it was in hand!?!
For me it's things like this that make me so grateful to be living in a small town in a rural area. Roll on Wednesday when I'll get my date for the early scan and hopefully be reassured its not another missed mc even though I know its not necessarily all fine at that point.
