welcome Iris and congratulations

heartburn had forgot about the joys of that hate Gaviscon as well why can't they make chocolate Gaviscon?

Am a bit cross as everyone seems to be having their 20 weeks scans before me I've not got mine until the 6th Sept, I'll be nearly 22 weeks by then, my friend is due 2 days after me and she has hers a week earlier, suppose I'm miffed she will know the sex before me, told you I was very impatient!

HM - hope your DS feels better soon are you still breastfeeding? I stopped a month ago with DD my nipples are so tender now as well. Weird now because I can't imagine feeding her and it's only been a few weeks.

Chuffed · 19/08/2005 10:05

Wow you lot have been chatty. Welcome Iris.
spangles our friends got the midwife to put the sex in a sealed envelope as one wanted to know and one didn't. They did finally open it up but it worked quite well doing it that way.
I'm going to have to have my hair, wax etc done next week. Last day at work today, leave next Sunday .
Congrats on your test Eshay.
When's the wedding Georgie?

Feeling so grim this morning - hoping like anything this is going to go away...didn't get any heartburn last time - praying none this time either.

HM dd gets high temps when teething, they just feel so incredibly hot well up near 40 don't they.

Rachey have joined the boots club, going to pick up all the freebies in the weekend. Worth trying to get the 'mother to be bounty pack too'. I have just written to them to ask for my application form so I can get my samples. Am hoping it might arrive before we leave.

Rachey1969 · 19/08/2005 10:32

Eshay - congratulations! You won't know yourself - freedom and independence.

I don't envy those of you with toddlers, been there done that! When dd was born, ds1 was just 4 and ds2 20 months - no peace at all - I rely on them this time to help me!

Sweetkitty - I know how you feel, had to beg for 12 week scan and I'll be over 21 wks when I have mine next week - it's shocking there is such a postcode lottery with maternity care in this country. We all pay the same tax yet receive totally different services.

Chuffed - I was disappointed with the bounty pack this time - just a load of fairy tablets really!

Welcome Iris - when are you due? Mine are 11, 9 and 7 so not such a big gap but I'm apprehensive all the same - we've been watching desperate midwifes to acclimatise dp but it;s frightening me!

iris66 · 19/08/2005 10:43

Rachey - thanks - due mid Jan and still sort of in denial/shock - but loving every minute really!! DD burst into tears when I told her and bawled that "everyone will think it's mine if I take it out" so feel a bit guilty at having 2nd bite of the nesting cherry!! Been watching stuff on telly too - v scarey so not doing it anymore. Just glad will not have to give birth in Holby City lol

Chuffed · 19/08/2005 10:51

Rachey - I got all 4 packs and did get a bunch of stupid advertising and lots of Fairy tablets but also got fabric softener, washing up liquid, full size packs of baby lotion, baby bath, extra sensitive wipes, normal baby lotion wipes, sample pack sudofed, dove hand moisturiser sample pack. Quite a few handy bits and pieces that have come in handy for travelling and putting in out and about bags.

OP posts:
Rachey1969 · 19/08/2005 15:29

Chuffed - I must have been robbed! I only got some horlicks and something else I don't like - how did you get all four?

I seem to be spending half my life in the GPs this week - I have just seen the physio about my painful ankle (this has been going on for years..) and apparently I have tarsal tunnel syndrome (similar to carpal tunnel syndrome you get in your wrists) to add to my moans. I am a physical wreck!

spangles · 19/08/2005 16:34

Welcome iris and hi to all.
Rachey.. can you tell me when desperate midwives is on and what channel? I have looked for this program before but not found it.
Congrats to eshay on passing your driving test.
Sweetkitty... I dont like gaviscon either.. it reminds me of the stuff that got me pregnant in the first place when I see it on the spoon
Havent really had chance to choose any names, has anyone chosen the name already?

Rachey1969 · 19/08/2005 17:10

Hi Spangles, Desperate Midwifes (is it a repeat from BBC1?) is on BBC Three so only available on freeview, cable or satellite. We only really get 3 channels here as we are in a dip and I was on the brink of getting cable TV when we tried again with freeview (previously it hadn't worked either). We spent £30 on a box from Tesco and £20 on a new arial from Argos. Dp got up on the kitchen roof and fitted it and now we've got hundreds of channels! Admittedly most are crap but Channel 4 and E4 are great, there are loads of decent repeats/films on BBC and ITV. dp loves Sky sports news and the kids love the music videos and Tracy Beaker/Hollyoaks/Simpsons.Anyway Desperate midwifes was on last night (thurs) 11-12pm and on in the early hours tonight. Not sure if on any other times. I highly recommend it especially for first timers and dps! Mine was alternately fascinated and terrified - I was just terrified... Last night we saw an amazing under water birth, twin delivery, caesarian, ventouse, epidural, really educational. Really interesting to see the midwife's point of view too.

Before I got pregnant, dp and I once discussed names and came up with one of each and now we can't agree on any others! It has to fit in with the other 3 kids' names, dp's surname and not be (in his words) 'stupid, wacky, American, old fashioned..' which rules most out! If it's a boy I'd like my dad's name as a middle name (as he is dying), considering he would have dp's surname. I really like dp's mum's name but I think my mum would feel a bit put out. Anyone else decided?

spangles · 19/08/2005 19:15

Thanks rachey... I will go and wrestle the sky remote off DS1, he is watching gummie bears while I get DS2 ready for bed. Our choice of names will have to be traditional to go with DS1 and 2.
Cant wait to have baby and be on the "birth announcement" thread

Eshay · 19/08/2005 20:54

No names here yet. We haven't even thought about it. We are waiting to find out the sex first. Last time around we only decided on a name in the last month. We gave DS my dad's name as a middle name as he's the only one in our families who really appreciates that sort of thing. He cried when we told him. My mum is quite the opposite and has made me swear never to name a child after her as she hates her name.

Rachey - freedom and independence yes but it's not like it will be a completely new experience for me. I first got my licence in the USA in 1990 and have been happily driving ever since (I got to swap my USA licence for a Dutch one). I had to take a UK test because they don't accept European licences which were originally issued on the basis of USA ones. I was so angry when I found out! Doing your test once is hard enough but when you have years of bad habits and then have to do it again it's no laughing matter. But I passed and that's all that matters. Yippee!

Mumfun · 20/08/2005 07:22

Hi

We do have a girls name I think. But not sure re middle names. Boys name is a problem - dont seem to like the second choices we had last time for DS. But plenty of time yet.

Trying to decide what car to buy - dont have one at present but could not face two on public transport. But will mean I get much less fit as only form of excercise at mo.

Really want scan over and done with now. Bout have to be patient.

Bye for now

MF

lyra41 · 20/08/2005 20:07

Hi

SweetKitty, how is your back? Hope it's feeling better. Mine is painful too, I'm hoping the doc will refer me for physio so I know which exercises to do.

Re names, I still like Alexander, but nothing will be decided until we see the baby. Other contenders are Daniel, Benjamin, David, all very Biblical, but will go well with ds1 and dd's names.

Iris,

suggestions for how to meet other pg mums : aquanatal classes, your midwife should have details of what's available locally. NCT run bumps and babes coffee mornings locally here, contact your local branch through the website www.nctpregnancyandbabycare.com and they'll be able to send you a newsletter with all the details, or tell you over the phone.

Rachey,

how's your chest doing? I guess with the kids at their dad's you're getting time to rest. You still on sick leave from work? I'm off for 2 more weeks, till schools go back, so that seems good, just pottering about at home will be great. We have sil's wedding next weekend though, so that will be a bit hectic, but fun.

See you later.

sweetkitty · 22/08/2005 09:09

hi all

Well thats me officially the big 30!! Had lovely birthday weekend had rare night out with DP on Saturday night, we went to a v posh restaurant then out for some drinks (diet coke for me although managed to sneak a few glasses of wine at dinner) yesterday we went shopping and DP treated me to a v expensice handbag to make up for the fact I can't buy nice clothes for a while.

If someone had told me a few years ago I would have one baby and another one on the way and be back in Scotland by the time I was 30 I would have laughed at them!!

Bit the bullet and bought some maternity jeans as well, they are size 10 but are huge will have to wear a belt with them for a while.

Lyra - I'm not doing too bad it's not really my back I get the pain but my tailbone and hips, it's worse at night when I've been still for a while (not much chance of that during the day with a 13 mo).

sweetkitty · 22/08/2005 09:10

oops sorry posted twice

lyra41 · 22/08/2005 09:24

Yoo Hoo

Anybody out there?

Sweetkitty, good to hear from you.

* HAPPY BELATED 30TH *

Glad you had a good one.

It's a grotty rainy day here in Manchester. My task is to persuade / help my kids tidy their rooms as they are getting beyond a joke and too difficult to vacuum. Any advice? I think I'll have to use money as an inducement.

I have an antenatal check with the midwife at 12.30, so there's something to look forward to! It will be nice to just focus on me and the babe. Then the anomoly scan on Weds, when hopefully all will be well, and we'll get to have a good look and the tiny boy. I can't remember how much you can see at this stage, can anyone else?

I've just ordered some old fashioned bloomers online, as I find that my thighs rub together in an unpleasant way, and think some muslin in between would help. Sorry if tmi, but this lack of face to face contact makes for uninhibited talk, I find. I hope the bloomers fit round my waist when they come (which currently measures a massive 41", and is not going to get any smaller for the foreseeable!)

My bump has gone very hard on top, but there is still a disappointing flap of flesh below which I'd hoped would have melted away and turned into baby by now.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Rachey1969 · 22/08/2005 15:25

Sweetkitty - Happy Birthday! Glad you are being spoilt!

Lyra - money! I make mine all do chores (especially dog walking and pooper scooping) in return for their pocket money.

I'm still off sick although feeling a lot better, I am knackered and my ankle really really hurts -need some R&R!

Scan on Wednesday - really looking forward to seeing baby again properly
My bump has now filled out my baggy bits nicely! I now look better with my clothes off than I have for some time!

GeorgieM · 23/08/2005 18:08

Hi ladies. Just checking in briefly to see what y'all have been up to. DD back from hols with her father and have missed her so much that I can't spend a minute away from her. I give it until Fri and everything will be back to normal!

Happy Birthday Sweetkitty. I remember when I hit the big 3 0! Enjoy it.

Eshay - congrats on passing your driving test. Get out ont he open road and revel in the freedom. I also found it was a fanatsic way of buggering off for a seaky fag (when I smoked) and ex-h had DD. Tee hee!

Had staggering return of morning sickness. Projectile vomited yesterday - tmi - and been feeling queasy again all of today. And god, the heartburn has kicked in with a vengence. Anyone else?

And seem to have grown over night. Feeling 'large' now. Tummy feeling v tight and caught myself doing preggers waddle yesterday evening!

Went to see private OB last THurs to check cervix. He sad that it was all looking really good, the stitch was holding and everything looked good. He siad if I could just keep Beany inside me until 28 weeks (another 8 weeks) then we'd be laughing. He also said that he thought Beany might be a girl..... which floored me as I was convinced Beany was a boy. Anyhoo, we find out for sure on 8th Sept..... if s/he co-operates.

Names we like are Tobias Alexander, Olivia Rose or Elizabeth (Libby) Mae.

Glad to hear everyone else is blooming.

And welcome on board Iris.

Eshay · 23/08/2005 20:29

Lyra! Where did you order your bloomers? I have been having the same problem and have not been able to find something suitable. I have some lovely men's underwear that just isn't right.

I too feel like I've suddenly grown. I still don't look pregnant to strangers though, as was proved today on a super busy tube and train. I wish my boobs weren't so big. It would be much more comfortable and people would be able to see my belly sticking out more clearly

We went for a huge walk on Sunday, about 4 hours in total. I was fine during the walk but am not too happy I did it now as I am quite sore just under the bump. This is making me waddle like I'm ready to drop. Must look quite silly.

lyra41 · 23/08/2005 23:14

Eshay

I found the bloomers at Bloomers 4U.com

Good luck and hope they fit us and are comfortable!

Won't say much as it's late and I should get to bed, see y'all tomorrow.

loomer · 24/08/2005 12:22

Hello all!

Just checking in, lots been going on with you guys...

Happy Birthday Sweetkitty - hope you're enjoying being 30, I think it's quite a cool age these days... the one I'm dreading is the big 4-oh! Then I really will feel grown-up.

Glad things are looking good for you Georgie, that must be really reassuring.

Speaking of which, I had my anomaly scan yesterday (bit early, as I'm only just over 19 weeks really)... it was SO nice to see the babs jiggling about, and I couldn't believe how much detail could be seen - even the four seperate chambers of the heart, amazing! 'It' was gulping away on the amniotic fluid like a fish, obviously in the mistaken belief that it's floating in a sea of chardonnay. But everything in the right place and functioning properly, which is very reassuring.

We decided not to ask about the sex. It's our first, so we really don't care what we get as long as it's healthy, and it doesn't really make any practical difference... so we're hanging on to a bit of mystery.

How is everyone else getting on? Any other scans yet?

Eshay · 24/08/2005 14:07

Thanks Lyra, they're gorgeous

Eshay · 24/08/2005 14:09

Loomer, I'm jealous! I want my scan too! And I'm pretty sure the rest of us are jealous too now. I have about 3 more weeks to wait. What agony!

Rachey1969 · 24/08/2005 15:52

It's a boy! probably... 98% sure apparently. He weed during the scan so I think we saw his teapot, awww...

I'm now 21 weeks and had my anomaly scan this morning with two senior staff which was reasurring. Had to wait an hour (ouch!) and couldn't really see much of it in detail cos screen facing away from me and they were running very late - but dp saw it all and was choked. They showed me a little afterwards. Have a lovely photo of baby showing dp's profile! Nothing abnormal detected thank god!

Dp rushed to mothercare and bought a darling little outfit and I bought a chiming purple donkey/rabbit...

Sooo chuffed! Took a photo of scan with my phone and have texted/emailed it to all and sundry. Fourth baby and the thrill doesn';t wear off - all I have to do is break the news to dd that she has another brother and that it's me and her against 4 men and a male hound!

lyra41 · 24/08/2005 16:02

Just got back from my anom scan and it was lovely. The sonographer even let the kids come in at the end to have a look, so that was fun. All bits present and correct, and no need to go to hosp again, I'll just see the mwife at the docs for ante natal checks and then at home nearer the time. I got my bounty packs too, mainly soap powder and lots of junk mail, but a cute beany hat advertising fairy and some simple shower gel and other bits. Most of it went in the recycling.

It's suddenly gone lovely and sunny after a rainy start, I might go and do a bit of gardening.

Eshay - glad you liked the bloomers, I ordered thigh length short bloomers, hope they fit by the time they come! What did you order? They're quite dear aren't they, but I reckon we deserve lots of treats and pampering in our delicate condition!

Rachey - thanks for advice re chores. DD is currently vacuuming her room, how much should I give her do you reckon? She did a reasonable tidying job too, although there were quite a few bits stuffed behind things and under things when I checked.

As for ds, I had to vertually hold his hand whilst he tidied his room, it took hours and was an incredible dusty mess, I may just leave him to fester now that he's a teenager.

My cleaners are incredibly unreliable, and I'm on the point of trying to find another. When they come they do a fairly good job, but they only come about 1 out of 3 times they say they will, and since I only have them every 2 weeks, I need them to be reliable really, especially with the baby on its way. I think I treat them well, I pay £8 an hour and have tried to be as reasonable as I can, but I'm just fed up of them not turning up. They always have a reasonable sounding excuse, but just seem to have chaotic lives that mean reliability goes out the window. Sorry to moan on.
