Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Am very jealous of you lot off on holiday, although today has been lovely in sunny Scotland we have been out in the garden most of it. DD is up to 7 steps in a row before falling over now won't be long til I'm running after her.

My appetite is returning as well and guess what my craving is chocolate same as DD!! Very similar pregnancies as well except I'm not as big with this one as I was this time with DD. Does this mean another girl. Keep imagining how I'll feel if they say "girl" or "boy" I'm completely not bothered as 2 girls close in age would be lovely but a boy and girl would be lovely too. Am so impatient I want to know NOW - how can people wait 9 months!!

spangles · 09/08/2005 13:29

I want to know the sex of "bump" NOW too, but DH doesnt want to know. He thinks he will be able to tell by the look on my face if I find out!
I go for 20 wk scan on 23rd August and will more than likely go alone so I think I will ask if they can tell me the sex
My last 2 pregnancys I didnt find out but I really REALLY want to know this time.
Hope everyone is well. Rachey... my sympathies to your friend, it must be awfull for her
Going to chase children round the park now, hope my energy levels hold out. bye

loomer · 09/08/2005 17:14

Aaahhhh, all these people off on holidays - can't wait til October when I can escape from work, which is rather stressful at the moment. I had to laugh when my Health and Safety officer came round to do a pregnancy assessment on me (!), and told me the most important thing was to avoid getting stressed. I'd better start my maternity leave right now then !

Can't wait for 20 week scan (22nd August), as it seems like such a long time ago that we saw the 12 week one... I don't care whether we know about the gender or not - but I think DH has a yearning to find out, which is fine by me. I keep imagining it as a girl, but that probably doesn't mean a thing.

What about you experienced mothers - did you have an inkling about the sex first time around?

GeorgieM · 09/08/2005 17:59

Glad it's not just me that hates suprises. DP and I are dying to find out sex as well. They had me booked in for 20 week on 2nd September... but am getting married then. Receptionist gave me funny look when I told her and am sure the phrase, 'horse, stable door and bolted' ran thru her mind! So have to wait until 8 th Sept when I'll be 22+3 to find out.

Have got an inkling that it's a boy. Been so aggressive and hormonal in first trimester. V different to pg with DD.

But can't work out if i think it's a boy because we'd like a boy, or whether it is.

Oh, can I just ask other mums if any of your DD/DS have started to act out since you told them you were pg? DD being hell on wheels at the moment! Lovely with everyone else and a pain in the butt with me.... bless her!

Donuts are calling me from the kitchen......no more MS for me, yippee. Bring on the fridge!

sweetkitty · 09/08/2005 18:01

Think it's really funny I'm an experience mother now ha ha ha as if!!

I was about 95% certain DD was a a girl from the minute I thought I was pregnant (2 days after the deed!) don't know why just knew she was a girl if the sonographer had said boy I would have fallen off the couch.

This time not so sure feel the same as DD pregnancy wise but am so not sure. DP thinks it's a boy though!

Chuffed · 09/08/2005 20:12

We're not going to find out unless baby is a boy and bares all in the scan.
We thought dd was going to be a boy so it was a surpise at the birth to have a girl, all the midwife signs said boy...ho hum.
I'm loving donuts and sweet stuff something chronic this time and with dd I was into cereal. We sort of have a feeling it'll be a boy but not really worried either way it would probably be cheaper to have a girl but it would be nice to have one of each. I have 20wk scan booked on 25 Aug.

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 09/08/2005 20:16

Sorry - forgot I said I'd update! Can I blame pg brain? Think you'll all understand that - lol!

Updates...well, had my booking-in appointment and the midwife was lovely and said that it sounded like a homebirth would be fine and she'd write to the community midwife to arrange seeing me. Not heard anything, but it was only a week ago! Had blood taken - ow! They can never get blood from me, so had to go over to phlebotomy and the chap there got it first time, phew! Have huge bruises (still!) on the back of my hand and inside of my elbow though.

Yesterday DS had a DMSA examination to check his kidneys hadn't been damaged by the UTI he'd had earlier in the year. It was really hard - I couldn't cuddle him after he'd had the radioactive dye injected because of the baby, although he did sit on my lap while he had the line put into his arm on the children's ward. Poor boy - he didn't understand what was going on (he's only 16mo) He was very good though, and I did get a cuddle just before bedtime, which was lovely. DH was with him (and is on nappy duty for a couple of days because his wee will be slightly radioactive!).

The good news is that the scan looked as though his kidneys were clear, and we're going for a follow-up appointment on the same day as my 20-week scan (24th August - think that's a common day for 20-week scans?!).

This pregnancy's going really quickly - can't believe in less than three weeks I'll be halfway through! I feel very different from how I did with DS - I've felt more sick (still am feeling a bit nauseous occasionally, but it's easing off - at last!), had a really bunged-up nose, my skin's been appalling () and I'm favouring girls' clothes over boys' in the shops (unlike last time when the thought of having to buy anything pink filled me with dread - very strange!). Baby is as active as DS was though - getting some real hefty thuds now!

OK, essay over Hope you're all well xxxxx

hunkermunker · 09/08/2005 20:20

We're not going to find out the sex of the baby - we like surprises Can understand why people do find out though - part of me wants to know, but I figure I'll know soon enough and I can't "un-know" if I find out! DH is adamant he doesn't want to know too, which makes it easier!

WIth DS, I knew he was a boy as soon as I got the BFP. This time - I'm not so sure - but after I had the scan, I kept referring to the photo as "she", even though I'd not had strong feelings before. Don't mind either way - part of me wonders what it's like to have a girl, part of me thinks I'm destined to be a mum to boys as I'm not very girly myself!

Chuffed · 09/08/2005 20:55

oh HM my skin was rubbish with dd but has been fine this time although I'm still feeling a bit nauseous every now and again.
I'm not very girly girl either I can be so I think that is a good way to bring up a girl, practical all the way.

OP posts:
Chuffed · 09/08/2005 20:56

Glad all is looking good for ds after his UTI. Must have been so hard to not just cuddle him it is almost instinctive.

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 09/08/2005 21:57

Hmm re bad skin... I love the guessing game of wondering, esp based on old wives tales! I also went off sweet things with DS (even the word biscuit made me want to heave!), but haven't this time. Is making name-choosing a nightmare though - cannot even think of any, let alone ones to disagree on!

Definitely agree with practical rather than girly - just scared of drowning in a sea of pink flimsy plastic toys - LOL!

Scan was horrible - cried outside the room when DS was having the dye put in his arm as he was so upset and I just wanted to scoop him up. Kept having to catch myself from touching him, kissing him and cuddling him afterwards too - makes me realise how often I do, which is nice, I suppose! Just glad it's over and hope they don't feel they need to do them once a year or something.

Hope you stop feeling sick soon - it's so vile, feeling rough, then feeling grateful that you're pg and can feel rough, then hating feeling sick again! Gah!

sweetkitty · 10/08/2005 09:54

aww HM your poor wee DS glad it's over for him too

Re the sex thing I was sure this one was a boy but since my pregnancy is identical to DD's I'm not so sure.

I crave chocolate
Have horrendous skin
same sicky feelings
same back and pelvis pain
so far carrying the same all out front (although don't believe that old wives tale)

so who knows am so desperate to find out, (don't do patience ask DP) for me we will name the baby and it will seem all the more real if that makes any sense?? can understand people wanting the surprise too it's up to the individual as ever.

hunkermunker · 10/08/2005 12:56

I carried all out front with DS - looked like I had a watermelon up my jumper! Have heard it both ways as being a predictor of gender - so probably not very accurate!

GeorgieM · 10/08/2005 15:19

Just thought I'd sneak onto PC whilst DD has unexpected afternoon cat nap.

HM - poor you and poor little fella. Is he on the mend now? DD had to have line put in back of her hand at 11 months because she was ill and it was horrible. Must be even worse for you as you can't hug or kiss him.

With DD I had comedy pg... looked like I had swallowed really large beach ball. From back you couldn't really tell and then I'd turn round and ...pow... there was this huge tummy!

With this one I've been craving satly things, not really into sweet stuff. Had couple of weird dreams early on about baby boys.

Flipping awful skin, but can't work out whether it's heat rash. Have couple of weird spot/bump things on my back as well... charming!

Oh and have really, really painful sciatica with this pg. Keep yelping with pain if I bend down in wrong way and get nerve trapped. Much worse than with DD. DP had to come and rescue me last night as had bent down to load dishwasher and couldn't get up again!!!

HM - so far have managed to ban anything to do with Barbie from DD..... but am losing battle. She's a girlie girl and all her friends have got Barbie so I guess I might have to give in. At least she's over the stage of only wearing pink clothes!

Hey, are we going to tell each other what we're having if/when we find out? Or do we have to keep it a secret?!

hunkermunker · 10/08/2005 16:52

Oh, no - don't keep it a secret! I'm not finding out what mine is, but in a total pregnant women are allowed to be contrary way, I love knowing what other people are having!!

sweetkitty · 10/08/2005 16:54

I'm telling!!! I won't be able to keep it a secret.

HM - I'm a right girlie girl was so so delighted I was expecting a girl last time, when I found out she was definately a girl I went mad buying pink and lilac. But knowing kids she'll turn out to be a right toy boy!

GeorgieM · 10/08/2005 18:00

Excellent. Am terrible at keeping secrets!

DD and I have had total Martha Stewart afternoon and made bluberry muffins for DP to take to work tomorrow (he started new job today and it never hurts to suck up to the boss!)and meatballs for supper tonight.

Eat ya heart out Annabel ruddy Karmel!!!!

Chuffed · 10/08/2005 18:06

Good on you Georgie.
This is so bizarre, with dd I carried right out front, still had a waist from the back but craved salty things and had terrible skin. What a mix of it all.
If we find out I'll tell you guys but not going to tell anybody else. We already have names picked out so it feels real now.
Am so excited found out this morning that one of my best friends is expecting her first in March in NZ so I'll have a really close friend with a bub almost the same age. I've done it essentially alone here in London so was just over the moon for her and me.

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 10/08/2005 18:08

thats great chuffed about your friebd one of my best friends is due 2 days after me, the comments we have had about "nothing good on tv that weekend!" we will be havign a right race after Christmas!

GeorgieM · 10/08/2005 19:21

Chuffed - when are you going back to NZ?

Fab news for both of you about your friends. Am really hoping that one of my friends who's been trying for ages for her 2nd gets pg soon. Would be lovely to have someone to share all the ups and downs with. Hopefully I'll be able to make some buddies at NCT/baby groups. And Mumfun is only down the road from me, so it'll be cool to have another Mn'er close by. We can cry into our de-caf latte's together!!!

Am getting so excited about our wedding.... three weeks on Friday. Can't wait to be Mrs P.

Chuffed · 11/08/2005 07:35

We leave London in just over 2 wks and then are travelling (pretty much backpacking) and arrive back in NZ in early Nov. It will be interesting travelling through Eastern Europe for that long with a 17mth old but we'll be fine.
Have you got everything ready for the wedding Georgie. Is the dress still a good fit? Very exciting stuff - love weddings!

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 11/08/2005 12:54

You must be getting so excited georgie, I was a bridesmaid for my best friend at 23 weeks, I had a size 14 dress and just about squeezed into it!

Chuffed - you will have a great time, I think things like travelling with a baby are only problems if you make them ie listen to people telling you how much of a nightmare it will be!

Well 18 weeks today another milestone (don't know why though) keep thinking back to my pregnancy with DD and it was around this time I did my last factory audit which involves getting up at 3am and looking around a factory to make sure they have cleaned it! Seems a world away now. Also was around this time I had to admit defeat and get the maternity clothes out but this time I'm still in my jeans and they are OK. Think it's because I used to sit at my desk at work and eat all day but having a 12 mo I don't have that luxury now.

GeorgieM · 12/08/2005 09:37

The panic is beginning to set in! Not about getting married, but about getting all the detials right. It's a bit silly really as there will only be 22 of us there! But still, I do want it to be a lovely day and for everyone to have a gorgeous time.

Have got a wonderful Italian dress maker to whip me up a creation in pale green silk. Thought full on wedding gown might be a bit OTT seeing as this is my second time down the asile and am 'with child'!! It's a 1950's style empire line dress that falls just below the knee. Have some killer heels from LK Bennett to complete ensemble! Will post pic after the wedding so you can all see.

Chuffed - really hope you enjoy your travelling. You getting excited? Or nervous? Or both? Bet you can't wait to be back in NZ.

Sweetkitty - no maternity clothes yet? Am v jelaous. Had to admit defeat about 3 weeks ago and get the big girl pants out! Am comforting myself thou with thought that pre-preg I was size 8/10 so v diff to get bump into them - ahem!!

Right, better crack on with wedding preps. Off to see florist and bug venue about details!!

Chuffed · 12/08/2005 11:06

Georgie, totally get that - it is the little details that make your wedding 'yours' that are the things you stress about.
I'm still in mostly non-preggy clothes but they are the super low fitting slightly larger 10's.
Am wearing some of my maternity t'shirts fitted ones as they are a bit longer to cover slight bump.
Totally excited about our trip, still a few things to sort out still but we'll get it sussed I'm sure.
took dd up to A&E last night as the rash she had over her legs and arms had spread to her face and chest and was informed that she has a virus that is in the same family as 'measles and rubella' and shouldn't be around pregnant women and it should be going in 4-5days. Since I'm rubella positive and am immune to rubella the dr just said to be careful not to share saliva and we'll be fine for travelling. Poor little thing seems fine but looks terrible and is bored stupid in this beautiful weather as she can't go to the swings etc.

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 12/08/2005 16:52

your dress sounds lovely georgie am dying to see the pics now

chuffed - I bet you are really excited, we went to NY when I was 27 weeks pregnant and it was great, hope your DD is feeling better soon too

had some bad news then some good news about the house today, bad news is we were turned down for a loan for the deposit, good news is we may not need it as our solicitor has sent out the contract for us to sign and they reckon it will be 2 weeks to completion, 2 weeks til we get rid of the milestone around our necks!!!!!
